90 Year Old Medal of Honor Recipient Retired Army Col. Van T. Barfoot Allowed to Keep US Flag Flying

The story of a real American hero and his victory …

90 year old Van T. Barfoot, a Medal of Honor recipient and retired Army Col. is allowed to keep flying his American flag on his 21 foot flag pole. I am glad to see we still live in America.

A 90-year-old Medal of Honor recipient can keep his 21-foot flagpole in his front yard after a homeowner’s association dropped its request to remove it, a spokesman for Democratic Virginia Sen. Mark Warner said Tuesday.

The Sussex Square homeowners’ association likewise has agreed to drop threats to take legal action against retired Army Col. Van T. Barfoot, Warner spokesman Kevin Hall said.

The association had threatened to take Barfoot to court if he failed to remove the pole from his suburban Richmond home by Friday. It had said the pole violated the neighborhood’s aesthetic guidelines.

Personally this home owners association and every member on it can go #%@% them self. As stated at the Jawa Report, Col. Van T. Barfoot has earned the right to fly any American flag he wants on any size flag pole he wants. The service that this man has provided to this country is more than the petty trivialness of some association board member with a Napoleon complex.

From Hot Air … A Happy Ending and watch the video of the story of retired Col. Van T. Barfoot.

Heroes like this should be honored, especially in their later years of life, not have their stones broke by PC Americans. The people on this association owe this man a debt of gratitude, not trying to take away his freedoms that he put his life on the line for in serving in the US Army.

KUDOS to Col. Van T. Barfoot’s victory!

Kudos to his victory and my undying thanks for his service to his country, which was represented by the flag of the United States of America.

I saw the pictures of his flag. It was in no way oversized and it enhanced the beauty of the neighborhood.

The cretins who run the homeowners association should be voted out for treating him like an enemy of the state. I hope they learned the lesson that there are and always will be Americans ready to protect this person’s rights, as he has done for us.

Van T. barfoot, thank for your service and may God bless you!

We soon will have no Vets let from WW2. Let them enjoy their years with any size flag they want. Heck they should be able to paint their homes like Old Glory if they choose. GOD Bless them all. When I take my elderly Mother to Dr. appts and I see a man with his Vet hat, I always make a point to thank them for their service, I don’t care if they were a desk jockey, they still deserve our respect.

The Man is a Medal of Honor winner ! That fact alone gives this man in my eyes the right to fly the american flag however in the hell he wants !

Where is the common sense that the home owner accoication clearly lacks ! This man should be honored and saluted. It is people like him that make america great . GOD BLESS HIM

At first glance this story was upsetting, but after reading more about Col. Van T. Barfoot, all his amazing accomplishments and reading flag *etiquite* for lack of a better word, TITLE 4–FLAG AND SEAL, SEAT OF GOVERNMENT, AND THE STATES
I am FURIOUS on more than one level.

For one as I read up on the flag it occured to me I was reading up on the flag because for who the hell knows why, learning about the flag is no longer taught in school. Out of curiosity I asked a few of my kids the extent of what they knew about our flag, they knew a little from the history channel. I asked if they ever say the Pledge Of Allegiance, two said “what’s that?” and one asked if I was talking about the morning deal they use to say, years ago, while facing the flag. If so that’s gone because it’s unfair to student’s not born here and the use of the word God is offensive to some,,,,,,,WTF?!?!? Need I say more?

Reading Title 4 reminded me of what the USA used to stand for. It also made it apparent that either the homeowner’s association has no idea the flag has meaning past being a decoration, or they are complete and total idiots-pick one, they’re both equally as bad. Who in their right mind would ask a decorated war veteran to as he put it, fly the flag in a dishonorable position or at half mast?

this reminds me of the apartment complex that told tennants that they could not place American flags in their apartments or their cars.
it was good to see that they were picketed not an hour after this happened. cars lined the roads and anyone entering were told of this ridiculous BS and American flags were everywhere.

After sharing this story with a lot of people they all had a similar *don’t be proud of your country/God/etc* it offends the visitors* story,
      It makes me sick!!!

I can’t read other languages to know for sure, but from I’ve seen, we are the only country who is steadily removing everything we use to be proud of and replacing it with beliefs of other countries. As far as I know we are also the only country who supplies legal counsel for people we supposedly *discriminate* against. Last I’ve heard other countries stamp one’s ass and ship them back home if what they stand for is dishonored or offended!

This is typical HOA BS…!! These people get put in a position where they have a little bit of authority and they become control freaks. SHAME ON THEM..!! This man deserves respect and a hell of a lot of appreciation. Kudos to Col. Barfoot. My hat is off to you Sir and thanks, from the bottom of my heart, for you service. You are true American hero…!!
