Tennis Star Serena Williams Fined Record $82,500 & 2 Year Probation for her U.S. Open Tirade

And the other tennis shoe drops …

Tennis star Serena Williams was fined a record $82,500 and will be placed on two years probation for her U.S. Open tirade when she verbally abused and threatened a lineswoman. If you have forget the terrible incident and lack of sportsmanship and total control, it can be seen here. During the US Open match with Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams lost her mind and the match.

Serena Williams was fined a record $82,500 for her U.S. Open tirade and could be suspended from that tournament if she has another “major offense” at any Grand Slam in the next two years, Grand Slam administrator Bill Babcock told The Associated Press on Monday.

Williams’ profanity-laced, finger-pointing outburst drew a $10,000 fine from the U.S. Tennis Association in September — the maximum onsite penalty a tennis player can face. But because it happened at a Grand Slam tournament, Babcock was charged with investigating whether further punishment was merited.

He concluded that Williams violated the “major offense” rule for “aggravated behavior.” The Grand Slam committee — with one representative from each of the sport’s four major championships — approved his decision Saturday.

Who knew that John McEnroe would be out done on the tirade meter? Then again, it says a lot about the state of affairs in today’s sports and the entitlement mind set of today’s athletes. Let’s hope Serena learns a valuable lesson from her lack of sportsmanship and tirade.

I’m old enough to remember Arthur Ashe. A true athlete. A Pro tennis player and a humanitarian. He should be the example for youth not Williams. Even while he knew he was dying he remained a true hero.

      Greetings:

Well, thankfully, there’s no jumping to (racist?) conclusions in tennis. What kind of sport is it when you can’t bump into your opponent?
      _____
SM: racist conclusion? What the hell are you talking about?
Serena Williams threatened the lineswoman, BTW, the woman was Asian.

What are you talking about racist conclusion? White, Black or Purple … you do not have the right to fly off the handle and threaten another person. Too bad she was not sused for her outlandish actions.

      Greetings:

Sorry “Sacred Monkeys”, I was being sarcastic about the length of time it took to arrive at this ignominious result. I mean there was actual video of the incident, what were the executives doing except protecting one of their golden gooses?

And if I may add a bit to “buster’s” comment, for a couple of years now, I have been somewhat aghast at Serena Williams’ physique. She is certainly a large woman, but her musculature certainly leads me to think that steroids and perhaps “roid rage” are part of the equation. Unfortunately, the observatory powers of the media have not deigned to address either the possibility or the actuality.

John McEnroe used to yell that kind of stuff all the time, and generally got away with it. Difference is the fact Serena is a lot more physically imposing, especially in comparison to that little gerbil that was the lineswoman. I hope Serena wins the next major she plays.

      ‘Roid rage, perhaps.

McEnroe, a hearty abuser of drugs as he admits.

#4—Suffice it to say- these professional athletes all have ways of juicing and it going undetected come testing time. It’s amazing.

Whether or not Williams is on steroids—her behavior was unprofessional and she should have been fined then. It’s about time. Let’s see how she acts during her probation. While a gifted tennis player—I find her overbearing personality a bit of a turn-off as a woman myself whileusually, I admire strong, independent females.

      Williams is over the top.
