54% of Americans Oppose “Cash for Clunkers” Plan … Next up Cash for Dunkers
The federal government is now in the business of bailing out people with old gas guzzling cars. Or should I say tax payers are, good grief. However, like most spending plans that Obama and the Democrats are putting forth and passing these days, Americans are against it.
Next up for this White House will be a subsidy plan that pays individuals for “cash for dunkers.” Anyone who can successfully show that they have dunked a cookie in a glass of milk will be paid up to 70% of the cost of the carton of milk and bag of Oreo’s. Does this really seem that far fetched from this Administration?
In a recent Rasmussen poll, 54% of Americans oppose the Cash for Clunkers, 35% were in favor and 12% were undecided and watching Jon & Kate Plus 8 announcing their divorce.
Congress now has sent its “Cash for Clunkers” bill to President Obama to sign into law, but most Americans oppose the plan to encourage people to trade in old cars for new, more fuel-efficient models. Few adults plan to take advantage of the program at this time.
How bad is the “Cash for Clunkers” legislation? The gas guzzling bail out bill had to be attached to a war funding bill in order to be passed. It could never stood on its own and passed. Instead, more wasteful spending was piggy-backed on the brace efforts of America’s military.

Making Sense of ‘Cash for Clunkers’
Last week I was reading up on the “Cash for Clunkers” program which the Senate just approved, hoping to talk about it here. I gave up, however, because it didn’t make any sense.
Then it dawned on me: It didn’t have to! It’s a government program. As long as it’s paved with good intentions, it doesn’t matter if the road goes nowhere.

not entirely true (although the deal is better there then here, here it is about 1500eu)
manufacturar sells more cars (although doubt it would be a US company)
less polution
better fuel efficiency
I disagree with the govt paying for junk to buy big 3 junk lol.The big 3 should just lower the prices 5 grand if the want to sell cars.Hell from sept to jan every year they have a fire sale anyway.
The big 3
Honda
Toyota
Daimler
?
Dolf – there you go again with one of your classics: “not entirely true…” Get off your soap box…you know diddley SQUAT…SQUAT!
NOBODY will buy these cars those losers in Europe drive, little boxes that ARE LESS SAFE!
LOL…less pollution…HAHAHAAHA….
dummies.
BTW, how does this fit into funding of the war?
No doubt, more campaign paybacks to his cronies…
Anybody with half a brain (I guess that includes you Dolf) can see this should have NO place in a war funding appropriation.
This is the most moronic idea EVER!
the cars the loosers drive in Europe?
GM and Chrysler are so damn good that they are now going belly-up? or even worse saved by the Italians
Right, I know didly squat……..
And about attaching the bill to another bill, isn’t that how US politics work…pork any1?
It’s called an amendment and its supposed to have some relation to the bill that it was attached to….You can’t have an appropriation with specific language about war funding and then attach an amendment for something else. Then again, it’s Congress, led by liars Pelosi and Reid and they make their own rules!
Wow..what about FORD? There are numerous car companies in the south (US) like NISSAN and TOYOTA, etc that are doing just fine. Its not the cars stupid but the people running those car companies and the unions (UAW) that have siphoned millions upon millions of dollars out of the car companies…..
You’re no BO!
I’m still waiting for my billion dollar bailout!!! Where’s my check? It’s been almost a year. Bailouts for business, nothing for those who live on Main Street.
true scott, thats why I listed them as the top 3 US car builders.
Ford has always had a good reputation here in Europe.
GM and Chrysler have a bad reputation.
although that is largly because of fuelprices
Not many can actually qualify for this.
Nissan was doing quite well without Cash for Clunkers. 75% of their vehicles are designed in the US, too. In fact, I did a little research and found that in 1999 when the Xterra came out, every article just about talked about how much Nissan was suffering. But a good design like the Xterra actually helped the company out. Some years later, they were doing much better than many of their competitors.
On the other hand, companies like GM and Chrysler require government funds to stay afloat.
Additionally, as another person mentioned, Nissans are made in the US, too. They are made in Smyrna, TN.
