California Democrat US Senator Boxer Scolds Army Brigadier General Michael Walsh for Calling her Ma’am, Not Senator

Barbara Boxer has a John Kerry moment … Don’t You know who I am General! Talk about a head trip and what is wrong with politicians.

TESTY, TESTY, TESTY … Seems that Senator Barbara Boxer is more concerned with titles than she is doing the work of “We the People”. Just to remind everyone, because if we don’t, Barbara Boxer will … she is a US Senator.

Talk about out of touch and too concerned with one’s own status. Barbara Boxer scolded a Brigadier General during a Senate Committee meeting on Environment and Public Works discussing the restoration of the levee system following the damage from Hurricane Katrina. That is correct. Ever wonder why and how we have a “do nothing” political system? These people are more concerned about themselves than “We the People”. They are more concerned about how they are addressed than the subject matter at hand. Could Boxer be any more small minded or petty?

California Senator Barbara Boxer is a Senator. And if you don’t acknowledge it, she’ll demand you acknowledge it. Even if you’re a General in the United States Army.

Brigadier General Michael Walsh appeared before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works yesterday to discuss the restoration process of the New Orleans’ levee system due to the damage created by Hurricane Katrina.

With the approval ratings of Congress and Senators these days, one would think that they would want to be addressed as anything but by their titles. Get a load of the back and forth discussion between the General and Boxer. One might want to remind Boxer that RESPECT is a two way street and so is CLASS. Oh by the way, as stated by Hot Air, when Brigadier General Michael Walsh addressed the male Senators at the meeting, he referred to them as “SIR.”

Absolutely. But what got her most rankled was when she wasn’t addressed properly. It seems that “ma’am” — a term deemed appropriate by a Military Protocol guide — isn’t good enough for the senator. She demands the title “Senator”. So much so that she interrupted his testimony to scold him for the apparent lack of respect.

Respect my authority

When beginning to address one of her questions, Boxer Senator Boxer immediately cut him off to correct him.

“You know, do me a favor,” Boxer Senator Boxer demanded. “Could say ’senator’ instead of ‘ma’am?’”

“Yes, ma’am,” Walsh answered.

“It’s just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I’d appreciate it, yes, thank you,” Boxer Senator Boxer continued.

“Yes, senator,” he said.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

BTW Babs, RESPECT is a two way street and I would tend to believe that attaining the rank of Brigadier General commands a bit better treatment than that of a Senator.

As News Busters states, the General was addressing the senator in a manner prescribed by protocol, as doubtless he’d been previously instructed on the proper protocol for U.S. Senate testimony.

From Don Surber, What Gomer Pyle could teach Sen. Boxer … bravo.

Notice none of the male senators copped an attitude by being called Sir, by the General.

Get a clue Boxer. Shows how in tune she is with Military protocol.

That creature (i.e. Pelosi) is a man-hater, so any chance she gets to throw a dart will do. What an evil b1tch.

Personally, I am sure the good General had a much better name he COULD have called her….but he is a gentleman I am sure.

Maybe if he’d called Pelosi ‘sir’ she’d have been ok with it????

Ego trip needs to be replaced. Too self serving to be a senator.

If he’d called her “honey” or “dear” or even what she is (b*tch) this type of response might have been warranted but since when is being called “ma’am” some sort of put down?

How dare Barbie Boxer disrespect a General. He is dedicating his life to make sure she can fake it as a Senator! But then maybe she ain’t no Mam. Maybe she is Bob Boxer. Her attitude is a disgrace to the country and will surly be a source of ridicule worldwide.

she’s probably wanting to know if all the explosives used to breach the levees during katrina, according to some nutcases.
with a republican governor in place, the payoffs at least have to be less apparent. that would naturally slow down the work since nothing’s done in la. until the palms are greased.

Senator Boxer is correct. Only ladies should be addressed as “ma’am.”

Perhaps the “senator” should be reminded that the title “servant” is appropriate for a person in the senate.

    15. Sean on June 20th, 2009 6:24 am

This, SENATOR Boxer should be ashamed of herself for scolding a decorated military General, who has keeps her safe. She is worried about being called mam. How dare she talk to someone who really was showing her respect! If she wanted to state her opinion she should have in a different atmosphere face to face. My Gosh what is wrong with the morals of this Country gone.

    16. Susan on June 20th, 2009 8:29 am

Barbara BULLDOG Boxer should be impeached for being so disrespectful to a General! She is as arrogant and ignorant as her commander in chief! What a dirty dog!

[...] How sad and clueless could an elected official really be? What is most comical is the ignorance that Babs showed in her disrespectful request of a Brigadier General. As stated at Wizbang, believe it or not Boxer actually asked to be called a title with the least respect. [...]

In this particular case, “useless twit”
      and “senator” are synonymous.

He should have addressed her as “The Most Treasonous Senator” Boxer.

The over all picture that’s forming in front
of us is that the quality of senators, congressmen,
      administrators, newsmen, administration members,
etc. is not one filled with critical thinkers, reasonable
people, and responsible individuals. Rather, it is
a nightmare of pawns who seem oblivious to the
obvious outcome of decisions they spew while
enabling the destruction of a free society. Babs
is just one glaring example of those willing to sell
      their soul for personal recognition.

Trophy shops were created for folks like her. Nancy P.
should get a symbol of her greatness as well. How
about a wonderful statue done in concrete or stone?

I agree she lost her cool and over reacted to what she regarded as being talked down to because of her gender. I can sympathize with the General though. I don’t know if he got it from a Southern upbringing or from military custom. In either case I think he thought of his use of “ma’am” as respectful. While “ma’am” and “sir” are the proper way to address a military superior, a senator is not a military superior. Modern women tend to reject any term that is based on gender – such as ma’am and sir, actor and actress, chairman and chairwoman, waiter and waitress steward and stewardess. Such terms are largely disappearing from our discourse.

    24. Carl on February 26th, 2011 3:56 am

I’m sure MISTER Walsh would prefer to be addressed as “General Walsh.”

So bitching about Sen. Boxer’s remarks is just hypocritical (and ignorant.)
