May 31, 2005 Natalee Holloway is Missing in Aruba … 4 Years Later There is Still no Justice, Part I

It was the case that captured not just America, but the world in 2005. Natalee Holloway goes missing in Aruba and captures the hearts and minds of all and became the new face if missing persons. It was the beginning of Beth Holloway’s crusade to find answers and justice for her missing daughter, Natalee.

Natalee_Holloway_10

On May 31, 2005 Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway went missing in Aruba as 125 Mountainbrook, AL highschool graduates were on a 5 day trip to Aruba. Natalee Holloway was last seen leaving the bar Carlos n’ Charlies with three boys, Joran Van der Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe and Satish Kalpoe. She would never be seen or heard from again.

Aruba 3 suspects

White sandy beaches were replaced in May 2005 with the new marketing face for Aruba, Satish Kalpoe, Joran Van der Sloot and Deepak Kalpoe.

Scared Monkeys initial article that covered the disappearance of Natalee Holloway was entitled, “This Can’t Be Good For Tourism, Where’s Natalee Holloway.” From the outset of Natalee’s disappearance, having personal knowledge, of exactly how Aruba operates and how they would at all cost protect their precious commodity of tourism, we doubted whether the family would get any real form of cooperation or whether this crime would be covered up. From the outset and before Beth Holloway ever landed in Aruba to find Natalee, the fix was in.

Four years later and still no “Justice for Natalee” I think we all know the answer,

Crimes like this are not supposed to happen on island paradise’s. Crimes like this are not supposed to happen in places that people call safe. Yet when they do, what will be the reaction of the police, of government officials, tourism boards and a media? The answer … block, obstruct and vilify the family and the victim at all cost.

We do make a couple exceptions to this treatment that Beth and Dave Holloway received in Aruba and that individual is Diario’s Managing Editor Jossy Mansur. From printing the cold hard facts in this case, even if it meant embarrassing Aruba and certain officials, Jossy Mansur went out on a limb and did what a newspaper man was supposed to do, report the story, not be a propaganda machine for the Aruban government. Jossy Mansur even went so far as to aid in the searches for Natalee Holloway by providing valuable resources to Tim Miller and Texas Equusearch. I was there to witness the benevolent work this man did in aiding the efforts to find Natalee.

Make no mistake about it, Vander Sloot and the Kalpoe’s lied and Natalee Holloway died. There was no reason for the three to lie as to where they dropped Natalee that night after leaving Carlos n’ Charlies. Why would they have to lie if nothing happened? The obvious answer is they would not have to. And thus the corrupt investigation and cover up began in Aruba. The other obvious question posed is Why Do Three Boys Go to Carlos N’ Charlie’s One Half Hour Before Closing when Mountain Brook Teens were there on their last night in Aruba? Gee, I Wonder?”

MCVAY: He came with his friends. He had told us that night that Sunday was not a fun night on the island and that no one goes out. So we found it ironic that he showed up.

Joran Van der Sloot confirms that is exactly what he said that night to the Mountain Brook girls.

VAN DER SLOOT: And I remember afterwards going into — right behind that casino is a little bar, and I remember watching — walking in there. And there was a baseball game on TV, and again, the group of girls was sitting there. And they said, Oh, yes, don’t forget to come out tonight. And I told them that on Sunday, it wasn’t a good night to go out. It wasn’t fun. It wasn’t — and — but they said, You know, if you want to come, come. And I ended up deciding that, yes, I might as well go and have fun. (Fox – ‘On the Record,’ Part 1)

The lie continues … Part II to follow.

      Thanks Red!

I just want to know what Jossy’s son Eduardo observed while on board the Persistence? It’s clear something was found and covered up. Maybe Jossy could clear some things up by talking to his son and printing some cold hard facts?

Their tourism isn’t so precious now.

There is some satisfaction in watching them eat

I contend that justice for Natalee Holloway will never prevail in an Aruban court.

The implications are too far reaching when you consider the chain of accountability.

Think about it. There are those who participated in the events encompassing the morning of May 30th. There are those from all levels of the Dutch/Aruban administrations/judiciary involved in the coverup agenda. Then there are the dirty little secrets regarding Aruba’s underground economy … gambling, pornography, drugs, alcohol, sex trade …

I agree with Beth Holloway … one day somebody with knowledge and conviction will talk and … Natalee Holloway will be afforded a measure of justice and … the family will be afforded a measure of closure.

Unfortunately, crimes are committed against women all the time. The problem with Aruba is that they, simply, don’t care. Their government has proven that over and over again in the ‘mouth service’ they gave to Natalee’s family while they schemed against them at every juncture… and continue to do so.

A CORRUPT ARUBAN INVESTIGATION? YOU BE THE JUDGE!

      Four years ago today …
      ______

      1. THE STATEMENT – JUNE 1, 2005

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Page 76/77: Detective Jacobs says he will only take my statement, not the others.

At what seems like one letter at a time, Jacobs types in Dutch what I say to him in English. It’s tedious. Arduous. Downright painful. It’s a very, very, very slow process …

I explain finding the car she was seen getting into parked at the van der Sloot home. I review the dramatic encounter in the van der Sloot front year in the wee hours of Tuesday morning during which Joran described his sexual activites with Natalee as she was falling asleep and walking up. Falling asleep and waking up. How he described her as drunk.

Describing the reencactment that followed at the Holiday Inn, I relate how Deepak Kalpoe and Joran van der Sloot specifically showed me exactly where they left Natalee. I give the names and include elaborate detailed physical descriptions of all those present for this demonstration. I tell how Joran and Deepak said she stumbled and bumped her head, how she refused help from them and went inside the lobby.

For two hour I talk. He types. Jug comes in to check on me. A little while later Jodi comes in, then leaves again. I am still talking, and the detective is still typing. I’ve been here for a total of four hours when we finally finish with my statement.

At the conclusion, Jacobs calls in another detective, a young uniformed officer, and gives him some verbal directions in Papiamento. The young officer turns to me and begins to read my statement back to me, from Dutch to English. When he gets to the last word he looks at me and asks, “Are these your words?’ And I respond in the affirmative. But I am not allowed a copy.

      .
      2. MINOR REVISIONS – JUNE 1, 2005

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Page 88/89: At the restaurant I order a meal, but only eat a bite or two. The others have worked up an appetite, and the meal is a good time for everyone to regroup before the calls start coming in again tonight. As dinner concludes, detective Jacobs appears at our table. He’s holding official documents.

Surprised to see him here at ten o’oclock at night, we invite him to sit down, hoping he has some pertinent information about Natalee. The detective says he just wants me to sign a new statement.

Jug immediately asks him, “What’s the difference between this one and one she gave you this morning?

Jacobs says that some dates were wrong and have been corrected, and he needs my signature on the new corrected copy.

The document is in Dutch, which is Greek to me. I have no idea what it says. I can’t tell if it’s different from the one the young officer read to me this morning, which I signed, or not. But all I have to rely on is the Aruban police process, so I gladly submit to his request and sign every single page. Desperate, I will do anything they ask. Maybe I can get a copy of this one. I’ll worry about having it translated later. For now, I will trust.

      .
      3. THE TRANSLATION

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Page 187/189: After waiting months to find out what my statement actually says, Jug calls on my first day in California. He has finally been able to obtain the translation of my statement from prosecutor Janssen. The one the detective brought to me to sign late that night in the restaurant. And I trusted him, and signed every page.

“listen to this, Beth …” The words he reads echo in my head. I begin to sink, and could slide to the ground out of my chair. “Jug, they changed it. They changed my statement.”

I had carefully given intricate details about the encounter in the van der Sloot front yard the first night we got to the island, including names and physical descriptions. Now Paulus van der Sloot is described only as “the man with the glasses.”

      Those are not my words.

Earlier we learned from the prosecutor that the statements from the two uniformed officers who were with us in the van der Sloot front yard that morning didn’t mention the sexual encounters described by Joran between Natalee and him. No mention of his sexual contact with her as she was falling asleep and walking up. No mention of his description of her underwear and genitalia. So the judge never heard about all that.

There‘s no way a police officer could stand there that morning, hear what Joran was saying, and fail to include these details in a statement. No way. In my opinion this information must have been deleted for the officers.

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Pages 209/210: Bad things happen everywhere. But the difference we need to consider when something bad happens outside the country is the help available for the victims and their families. When we leave these borders, we leave behind all the privileges and rights we’re all accustomed to and often take for granted. We have expectations that there will be a safety net of law-abiding official, no matter where we travel, or that our US embassy will come to our rescue. But that’s terribly naive.

    11. A Texas Grandfather on June 1st, 2009 9:37 pm

This case should be told to every school system in America. It should be required for all junior and senior students in every high school and all colleges.
These were very nieve people who traveled from Mountain Brook to Aruba. In the recent movie, the ignorant male coach who stated that eighteen year olds could go to bars in Aruba would have been enough to make me tie my grandchild to a bed to keep her from making the trip.
Eighteen year old girls are not adults and should be watched by mature adults at all times when on a trip outside their own communities. Eight or nine chaparones for one hundered thirty plus eighteen year olds is asking for trouble.
That very weekend in 2005 I attend the graduation of a grandson. The did not go anywhere for a “Senior trip”, instead, they spent the following three days in activities at classmates homes where good parents supervised them.
On the way to the graduation my wife and I stopped for lunch at a famous barbeque resturant. While we were there two groups of seniors stopped as well. One group from an extremely small school were on their way to Florida to Disney World, about twenty-five students and they had ten chaparones with them. The other group was close to one hundred traveling in two chartered buses with eighteen chaparones. The group from Mountain Brook needed an additional twenty chaparones to provide proper protecton for them.
Grandparents love their grandchildren as much as parents. This case brings tears to my eyes because it did not have to happen. Beth could be my daughter and Natalee my granddaughter.
I was so angry at the coverup by the Aruban Authorties that had it been in my power, I would have gathered a bunch of ex service people and invaded that island.

    12. Patti on June 1st, 2009 10:54 pm

I know what you mean, Texas Grandfather…

There are countless what if’s and if only’s but there is no excuse for the blatant disrespect the island of Aruba inflicted upon the Holloway-Twitty families… especially, Beth. In my opinion, they started covering this crime, putting the family through a wild goose chase and covering their tracks as soon as they got word that Natalee was missing. They never intended to EVER solve the mystery… and none of that has changed for four long years.

Sorry for the mess up in my post. I meant to say lip service and that’s what it was… all talk.

Texas Grandfather, you’re well spoken and I couldn’t agree more with you.

Our youngest son went on a cruise ship for his Sr. trip and we sat him down and went over EVERY possible scenario that could happen and he listened, rolled the eyes at some points and he LISTENED…and of course, even when they are 18, boys and girls of that like age, they are invincible and feel so “adult” and are far from having the wisdom and insight that we have ~ so, so, important to sit your child down, and their friends as well and go over and over and over what can happen and how to respond in such instances… who to call, contact, etc., what to do when abroad in a foreign country ~ Embassy/Consulate contacts, etc… my sons are armloaded with information when traveling abroad.

It is so tragic and immensely sad that the Holloways have suffered such a loss, as the family that recently lost their son on a cruise ship has as he went overboard and sadly, this is happening more than naught…

I agree, young adults need to continually have these reality checks and balances ~ in place, from Kindergarten through college even…

My son intervened in a situation during his Sr. year at a major University ~ while attending a gathering ~ he was with a bunch of guys and girls ~ where he witnessed a young college girl behaving drunk and observing her out of control behavior kept a close eye on her and her 2 friends… she was given a date rape drug in her drink by some vermin scum and my son, he took charge and did the right thing, protected the girl and her 2 other friends and got proper help with authorities ~ he warded off a date rape ~ and there were other vermin with this ringleader vermin scum wanting to take advantage of this young girl ~ and thankfully, my son was raised in a home with high morals, strong values and nothing but deep respect for women (young and well as older).. it shook my son up so badly that these vermin were preying upon innocent young women ~ he called me to talk about it…he was absolutely disgusted with how many young men on campus treat young girls less than human and for their own selfish sexual needs/desires…he said it angered him and I shared how he did the absolute right thing in protecting her, getting her to a safe place and calling the authorities in the process ~ it’s on every campus, in every State… sadly ~ I am and was so proud of him… those 3 girls are very close friends to my son to this day and said he was their hero and guardian angel that night ~ God forbid he wasn’t there at that time… it would have been very different for them… Oh, it angers me too!~

Girls are given whistles on campus (big deal), there are call centers, escort services at night for them to be walked to their dormitories and still, this happens. (personally, I feel they should be given license to carry mace (pepper spray)…

I would add, that girls, as well as boys should be taught in Physical Education class as a pre requisite or even a separate course, self defense as part of their continued curriculum ~ beginning at kindergarten…and continuing into Sr. year.

Education is power… our children need to be proactive and empowered to discuss with any adult about being a “safety kid” right on to age appropriate discussion about sex, date rape, etc. and have discussion as what happened to dear Natalee…and the realities of such… pointed to Beth Holloway’s foundation ~ absolutely!

They should also be required to see the movie TAKEN… every young girl and young man graduating from High School aught to see that film, in addition to Natalee’s story ~ our children need to be enlightened and educated about the realities of what can happen when traveling abroad ~ and learn the other countries customs and be “street smart” not naive~ Our children are somewhat sheltered living here in America ~ in Europe and abroad, I think kids there are a little bit more worldly and wiser ~ our children need to be educated about sex-ting and the harsh realities of the human sex trafficking and how widespread it is… slave trade is very alive and well worldwide… it’s frightening!~

There are a lot of vermin out there, on the prowl, seeking whom they may devour and it’s a very sick society we’re living in… you can’t be so trusting and must be sharp in your skill set and informed… (sigh)… it’s heartbreaking when we read almost on a daily basis about children being harmed by sexual predators, human traffickers,God knows what… and it’s maddening!

God Bless Beth Holloway. I thank her and others like her, for sharing their harrowing experience to educate and inform our children so this will prayerfully, not happen… their suffering is unfathomable ~ there are no words to express the sadness we all feel for this woman having lost her beautiful daughter ~ it is immensely sad ~ and I too, am disappointed in Aruba for not giving this young girl and her family the respect she so deserves(d) ~ no human being should ever be treated in such a manner…. ever.

Shame on the Aruban Government and it’s corrupt judicial system, shame on them ~

Thanks Red! I look forward to Part II!

#1 “Bob” stated my exact thoughts when I read the article. What does Eduardo know? Will we ever know? I do appreciate the assistance the Mansur’s were to Beth, and all who searched for Natalee. And I really appreciate Jossy telling it like it is when he does interviews. Such a breath of fresh air compared to the other “media” sources that are often interviewed from Aruba. But I too have so many questions about the Persistence mission and what really happened. If those weren’t Natalee’s remains that were recovered by Aruban authorities ONLY…just whose were they? Eighteen months later and no mention of those remains and who they belonged to? I won’t be forgetting about that. I want to know. I supported the mission in prayer and monetarily and I can’t shake the feeling that we were all duped! Hope lingers that something will prove me wrong but the more I see the more I’m convinced I’m not wrong about that. Natalee and her family deserved better. Aruba will never live this down. There will always be those of us who will remind others every chance we get of what happened to Natalee in Aruba; and the extremes that the powers that be in Aruba have gone to in covering it up and blaming anyone and everyone for it other than the ones responsible. The attempts to villify Natalee and Beth especially are unforgivable! Blame the victim, blame the mother who demands answers? It won’t work Aruba. Natalee wasn’t the first girl those guys preyed on, and too many KNEW they were doing it! Were they worried about their precious tourism then? Sure doesn’t seem like it.

I’m with Carpe no mercy here, nada.

There will never be any justice for Natalee….PERIOD! Aruba totally screwed up the investgation…Evidence is long gone. Hearsay will never stand up in a court. I truly believe Natalee was murdered by that punk Vandersloot and his daddy helped him cover it up. They are NEVER NEVER going to admit it. The other sad reality, she was put out in the ocean and ate by the fish. Why else did they NOT find anything….She was made fish food…sorry to put it that way…Her parents will keep looking until the end of time….they will never find her ….

    26. Patti on June 3rd, 2009 6:39 pm

I think she was trafficked off the island or killed in such a way that would embarrass the island’s culture. They want everyone to think that she’s dead but are unwilling to provide her body. There has to be a reason why. I’ll bet if someone asked to examine the corpse that was found under the fallen bridge… they wouldn’t have that one either. No crime… Laugh out LOUD!

I hope that people does not believe all press news! Because many times they bring news all out of proportion and sensation not reality! I believe,Accuracy information is a must! But to many lies was in the game from all sources! Joran’s father was just a lawyer not a judge! Aruba’s Government is always been managed by Holland and the Dutch law and when they wanted to do something they must go true Holland for anything! In this case Aruba, past Government was intimidated by Holland to let this young man go free just because Joran was a European dutch man. Politics have a strange way to change the truth and make sensation. You have to observe the Dutch law, The juridical system is questionable, father van de Sloot a prominent European dutch man and lawyer. Chief of police a European Dutch police! Holland puts people in the right position to control things just go and investigate better who they are protecting always their own country by making a political issue and circus out of this by putting the ignorant Arubian people in bad spot! You want to know something, go and investigate The new Government of 2010. They did put the same chief of police in the case of Holloway as right hand in every single authority position. Remember him? Jan, is now the right man to deal and wheel in new Government everywhere! he is a counselor he organize campaign, ext. you name it! he is the right hand of minister of culture. So, judge for your self, “The persons to be put responsible for Joran’s case and freedom.” It’s just a political game to play by Holland that should be investigated! If they have work better and not cover asses by corrupting this case maybe Aruba’s people had solve the case and had no second murder in Peru! things to think about!
