Many at Notre Dame are not just “Fighting Irish,” they are fighting mad over the decision for the most prominent Catholic University in the United States to honor the most radical, pro-abortion president in years. Does anyone really not see the sad, pathetic, insulting irony of a Catholic college name Notre Dame, which translates to “Our Lady,” providing an honorary degree to a man who is as pro-abortion as they come? REALLY?
The controversy began a couple months ago when Notre Dame school administrators asked President Barack Obama to speak at their Commencement ceremony. Notre Dame’s choice to have Obama speak and receive an honorary degree was a bit much for many to stomach as a private, Catholic University honor a man who has been the most radical, liberal, pro-Abortion president in years. The White House and Golden Dome Administrators thought this would blow over. Make no mistake, it has not as 20,000 people are expected to protest this weekend.
A protest on a college campus against a liberal, Democratic President? My how times have changed. Protests are not just at Berkeley anymore. President Barack Obama and Notre Dame University President Jenkins really misread the tea leaves on this one. Or was it the Rosary?

The petition to Father Jenkins in outrage that Notre Dame will honor President Barack Obama as its commencement speaker has received over 364,351 signers to date and counting.
Dear Father Jenkins:
It has come to our attention that the University of Notre Dame will honor President Barack Obama as its commencement speaker on May 17.
It is an outrage and a scandal that “Our Lady’s University,” one of the premier Catholic universities in the United States, would bestow such an honor on President Obama given his clear support for policies and laws that directly contradict fundamental Catholic teachings on life and marriage …
Catholics may have to look in the mirror and ask why they are Catholics if they are ok with what is transpiring at ND. The idea that they would honor Barack Obama with a Honorary degree defies all logic, common sense and Catholic beliefs.
Maybe Barack will tell the ND grads these perils of wisdom during his speech, “I don’t want them punished with a baby”. Who knew that a baby was a punishment? I hardly think Obama’s parents thought he was. Where so these people acquire such a screwed up value system?
The Cardinal Newman Society, an advocacy group for Catholic colleges that circulated the position, said the invitation violated a 2004 bishops’ mandate that stated, “The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles.”
Is it any wonder why so many people are outraged by the disbelief that such a pro-abortion president would be honored? A recent Gallup poll stated for the first time since the question has ever been asked, a majority (51%-42%) of Americans now consider them self “pro-life” rather than “pro-abortion”.
As Michelle Malkin writes, the Obama White House can pooh-pooh this controversy all they want, it is big, it is real and it is here to stay. Eighteen people were arrested today at the gates of the university as the “Showdown at Notre Dame” has begun.

Growing up loving Notre Dame football and the school, I have just done all my laundry, I am about to pack up every Notre Dame T Shirt I own, Hockey sweater, sweat shirts and pants in to about 4 large Hefty bags and send them to the Salvation Army.
I didn’t think they would go through this Obamanation, but apparently it will happen tomorrow. It is a sad day for a Catholic Institution named for Our Lady.
I hate to say this, but my heart is breaking right now, because Notre Dame football and the University has been my heart and soul when I sat in snow watching Joe Montana in the Cotton Bowl as a kid. I wasn’t smart enough nor had the money to get into ND, but that was my University of my Dreams. Sorry for the rant. I am just very disgusted by the whole thing. I bet he will make touchdown Jesus weep.
I hope and pray when they give him his major award, the graduates and their families turn their backs on him or walk out. I also pray the protestors act like fine Catholic/Pro Life people and don’t make a scene. That is just want mr Obama is wanting to happen. He loves some controversy, especially when it makes the Pro life movement look bad. Just my stupid opinion. JSM
Notre Dame is an Educational Institute…
Don’t worry, they’re not going to grow up to own an abortion clinic from listening to him. In Upper Education, are students that can make up their own minds. Derive their own conclusions and write their own stories. There is nothing wrong with hearing the other side. Besides, he teaches abstinence and doesn’t believe in abortion as a choice that he’d make. It’s too bad that subject wasn’t debated more in the primaries. Hilary, on the other hand is pro-choice because she doesn’t have the backbone to speak about how bad it is so she hides behind a clothe that is entitled ‘Women’s Rights’.

Of all the people they could have chosen to give a speech why on earth would they pick him? Doesn’t make sense, he does not care about the unborn and he wants my tax money to pay for abortions and partial birth abortions. That’s disgusting that goes against the Christian teachings.

Katablog, I don’t mind the protestors making a scene, I just meant I hope they don’t get arrested and such. The MSM will be all over the protesters actions, saying crazy protesters, ruined it for graduates, etc. I hope that makes some sense.

This is a Catholic school, so they are supposed to follow Catholic guidelines or so I thought and Barrack Hussein Obama is certainly not a spokesperson for Catholicism.
