Change You Can Believe In: Stimulus (Pork Spending) Bill Broke 7 Obama Promises … Open & Transparent … NOT!!!

Barack Obama’s Stimulus bill or at the Gateway Pundit refers to it as the “Generational Theft Act” has already broken seven Obama promises previously made by The One. That didn’t take long at all … talk about change you can believe in. So much for open and transparent as a $787 billion stimulus plan was rammed down America’s throat as politicians voting on it were forced to vote without an opportunity to fully read it. By the way, what happened to the public having 5 days to review?

Sweetness and Light has the full story.

7 Broken Promises in Record Time

1. Make government open and transparent.
2. Make it “impossible” for Congressmen to slip in pork barrel projects.
3. Meetings where laws are written will be more open to the public. (Even Congressional Republicans shut out.)
4. No more secrecy.
5. Public will have 5 days to look at a bill.
6. You’ll know what’s in it.
7. We will put every pork barrel project online

Remember Obama’s promises where he said that “Sunlight is Best Disinfectent”? It would appear that ever since he took office less than a month ago, we have had nothing but cloudy skis and more bad weather on the horizon.

CHANGE? JUST ANOTHER TYPICAL POLITICIAN BREAKING PROMISES

As The Wall Street Journal reports … Obama’s Rhetoric Is the Real ‘Catastrophe’

President Barack Obama has turned fearmongering into an art form. He has repeatedly raised the specter of another Great Depression. First, he did so to win votes in the November election. He has done so again recently to sway congressional votes for his stimulus package.

What happened to the candidate of hope? Obama’s fear mongering has reached new heights. His comparison of today’s economy to The Great Depression to sway a vote is dangerous. Obama knows damn well that our present day economy, although bad, is not at the levels of what it was under Democrat President Jimmy Carter when we had double digit unemployment, inflation and interest rate. Add fuel costs through the roof, odd/even day gas rationing, Iran, Afghanistan and troubles with the Soviets.

      But, but,..it’s Bush’s fault!

    2. mommytraveler on February 16th, 2009 8:02 am

Every Democrat I know that supported Obama with financial contributions, as well as, votes are opposed to the Congress and the President on this bill. Even the Democrats expected to be able to read the fine print online. Even the Democrats expected him to be open and transparent. Nobody expected a bill to be passed that had not even been read by those voting on it, nor expected a President to sign such a bill.

Its easy to Misinterpert what Oderboms says when yer lips are so big all they do is flap in the wind.

Geez isn’t the dream of all muslims to bring down the Unite Stated ??? Well oderbom is getting paid to do it !!! If you line the white house with velcro then he will be stuck there

    5. Michelle Smith on February 16th, 2009 8:38 am

Are any of you really surprised that President Obama has already broken promises?

    6. Confused on February 16th, 2009 8:45 am

I couldn’t read the plan if I had a month to do it, let alone understand what it says. This is not the transparent government that was promised.

    7. Dolf on February 16th, 2009 9:00 am

      @4) get an education.

    8. Richard on February 16th, 2009 9:29 am

The latest casualty is the car czar position … apparently some White House (surprise, surprise) ‘experts’ will be in charge of that.

Meanwhile, General Motors has said: give us more money or help us through bankruptcy proceedings. And the car parts makers are also making noises about wanting bailout cash ….

      I wouldn’t mind some either….

Don’t forget, this month is when GM and Chrysler, in theory anyway, are supposed to prove to the government how they will be solvent under the new system. If they can’t, then (if I remember) the support will be withdrawn. (In theory, anyway.)

I believe that Ford said it didn’t need bailout money. Whether it will continue to adhere to that position is another issue.

    9. Richard on February 16th, 2009 9:50 am

According to The Washington Post, GM and Chrysler are supposed to report tomorrow … the same day that President Obama is to sign the (first) bailout bill. Another, bigger (over $1 trillion) package is supposed to be coming out soon.

      Might be an interesting day.

      MommyTraveler:

Nobody expected a bill to be passed that had not even been read by those voting on it, nor expected a President to sign such a bill.

Many of us spent a lot of time on this blog and other blogs BEFORE the election, trying to tell people about the “change” they could believe in.

      Michelle Smith: Not one bit.

Richard: Ah yes, but that’s not all that’s coming down the pike. Make sure you don’t miss the Mortgage bailout coming to a theater near you soon.

obama’s plan is nothing more than a power grab. he is just trying to big time like a street thug selling crack on the corner.
he wants the praise from those who unknowingly put him in office. he thrives on this praise because it makes him feel like a big man.
too bad barry, it ain’t working for you !!

    12. SenecaFalls on February 16th, 2009 11:54 am

Boy, talk about fake outrage. Where were you people on “generational theft” when the last bunch passed 2 trillion in tax cuts and engaged us in a 1 trillion dollar war? Anyone remember the size of the deficit as of January 19, 2009? As for the failure in reading comprehension here, the House Bill was introduced January 15. Did you take time to read that then? The Senate “compromise” which actually deleted provisions from the bill, (meaning less to read) was available for review and analysis on February 8, 2009. Did you folks read and compare that to the House bill?? I think there is a lot of bellyaching here for the sake of bellyaching. The only provision I have heard that was “snuck” into the bill was a provision making sure that the Banksters do not get any cash bonuses until the money is paid back. That’s a good thing unless you are complaining just to complain.
By the way, anyone keeping track of promises kept? Like 95 % will get a tax cut or that within one month of office the administration has taken SIGNIFICANT action that differs completely from the what the last bunch did and wanted which is the very definition of change. Not change you believe in cause you never believed in it. But 53% of the people did and the change is supported by over 60% of the people according to Gallup. Now as one famous Repub once said, whine on harvest moon.

TRANSPARENT Change We Can Believe In?

Most of us here can STILL see right through it, and we don’t need to be experts to figure out we got kicked in the arse once again. OUCH! To the tune of almost $790 Billion…..that’s a GINORMUS bill Congress has just sent the Federal Government, and of course—many will start cashing in on it- ASAP. Who holds the liability for re-payment?

Why, we do, of course….the American Taxpayer and generations of our children’s children to come.

Please pass the barf bags and excuse me while I toss my cookies.

It’s all about growing government making sure everyone have (what they think is) their basic civil rights, and will rape everyone’s pocketbook to do so.

In honor of this wonderful, pork-free stimulus, I re-wrote the words to an old protest song. Try and guess the original title. Here goes:

We Don’t Get Fooled in ‘10

And the world just ain’t the same
And the history sure has changed
‘Cause the Che banners, they all flown in the Chi Wards

I’ll tip my hat to the OLD constitution
Won’t take a bow for the new destitution
Frown and spit at hope ‘n change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
      Just like yesterday?
      No, no!

I’ll move myself and my family inside
‘Cause our freedoms won’t be left half alive
I’ll get all my bloglinks and smile, satisfied,
For I know that the hypnotizers ALWAYS lie

      Do ya?

      YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

      There’s nothing in the street
      Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced by Stimuli
      Pork-spending trillions by the left
      Backstabbing RINOS on the right
And they’ve turned us into Zimbabwe overnight

I’ll tip my hat to the OLD constitution
Take a bow for the Right Revolution
Frown and spit at hopey/changey all around
Pick up my guitar and play
      Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled in ‘10
      Don’t get fooled in ‘10
      No, no!

      YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

      Meet the new boss
      Hussein’s win is you’re loss

Oh, my! Lies and unkept promises, hanging out with
terrorists and criminals, spending us into depression,
killing free enterprise, attempting to confiscate our
firearms/ammo, considering limiting free speech, choking
our military, hiring questionable cronies, not producing
a certificate of live birth, weakening our credit standing
in the world, truncating our very freedom, nationalizing
our banks, killing coal, and so much more. These are
the qualities that make us love our Hero of the
Second Coming. This man can do NO WRONG! He loves
us all like a Big Brother would.

      Praise Barack Obama!…Praise Big Brother!

your (rep) solution to every problem is

      tax cuts?
      _____________-
SM: Let’s see there is a thing called giving the $’s back to the people to spend. I happen to trust them far more than I do any politician.

A Stimulus bill is fine; however, it has to be just that. An immediate effect. Not a Liberal Democrat social wish list that they have wanted to fund for 50 years.

This will come back to bite Obama on the A$$.

Hold on, you monkeys, just hold on. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Stock up on toilet paper and survival food. You’re going to need it. Fascism here. Very soon they are going to announce that our money is worthless and they are going to have to issue a new form of currency. Our question right now is will it be the Amero? We have lost the last shred of what was this fine Republic.

    20. Dolf on February 17th, 2009 6:58 am

      Red,

The fiscal responsbility(??) isn’t really the GOP thing anymore.

Situation is asking for more then the usual tax cuts and pointing fingers (oh no a socialist, communist, liberal).

and for the big brother part: you can blame that on Bush & Cheney with their gestapo Patriot Act (the name alone is scary)

Their are not many countries where you can be arrested and detained without trail and/or accusation.
North Korea, Iran (not sure), Syria to name a few

      and…the good old USA

    25. katablog.com on February 17th, 2009 9:23 am

#12 your comments only prove that you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

First, Harry’s $8 billion light rail from LA to Nevada was by everyone’s agreement a last minute throw into the final bill.

Giving tax breaks to those that actually PAID the taxes is the only fair thing to do unless you are into redistribution.

Tax break to 95% of Americans? $13 a week? Do you really believe 95% of Americans make less than $75,000 a year?

Significant action? Well you are right about that one. It’s so significant because never in the history of the USA has one bill carried so much pork and social changing agenda. Never in the history of America has one group felt so entitled to blatantly change the free democracy into a socialistic state overnight. Never in the history of America have the people been so outright robbed by one little flick of the pen. Never in the history of America has a bill grown government beyond even the liberals wildest dreams.

Tell me: did you even read the bill? Are you aware that the final bill which was put online at 11:00 PM on February 14th? And, that the final copy had so many strike throughs and notes in the margin, no intelligent person could possibly tell what the final decision was?

I actually read through over 200 pages of the Senate bill before I started oinking so much that I could no longer read.

I truly hope you never get a serious illness or are in need to expensive healthcare because your wonderful big daddy government is now going to watch over your Dr’s shoulder and decide if you are “worth” it.

I take it you have no problem with the provisions that only Unionized construction companies can bid on all those big government projects.

Do you think the billions to Home Land Security for buildings and furniture will stimulate the economy you live in?

Do you have a problem knowing that nothing in the bill prevents the money from going to illegal aliens instead of the actually tax payers?

Are you proud that the Market is now down 273 points today? Isn’t that stimulating?

    26. Dolf on February 18th, 2009 8:08 am

Listen don’t try to argue with the liberal nutcase and MISINFORMED DOLF. He isn’t even an American so anything has to say should be laughed at and ridiculed because obviously he doesn’t know how capitalism and the stock market relate. He claims the stock market does not mean anything, well, idiot, IT DOES….go read some books on ECONOMICS and Capitalism and it’s relation to the stock market where those guys and gals are professionals. It is not a coincidence that the market has dropped OVER 4000 points since the inception of TARP and SPENDULUS!

The stock market has EVERYTHING to do with the economy!

You are a complete and utter toolbox! You must live under a rock. Socialism has NEVER worked in ANY country EVER!

Of course, you are not an American so you wouldn’t know the effect 9/11 had on AMERICANS you a$$hole! Do you even know why the Patriot Act was instituted? Probably not. You have the mentality of the chimp that ripped that woman’s face off. It’s just like liberals to feed off OTHERS MISFORTUNES! It was enacted so the government can make sure we don’t get attacked again and it has worked on numerous occassions, more than the media has reported and those are FACTS!

Look around stupid, censorship from the liberals is already in effect! Pre-approved questions at Obama’s first presser; locking Senate GOPs from the conference on the stimulus; a man arrested for an anti-Obama sign on his car; his reluctance to give FoxNews more than a sporadic question once in a while; redistribution of wealth!

And no you can NOT be arrested without PROBABLE CAUSE; even with the Patriot Act. Do you just dissiminate lies on purpose or are you just that stupid? I’m going with the latter…..

$13 extra per week! HAHAHAA…yeah, he really lived up to his 95% tax cuts….you’re a tool!
