Barack Hussein Obama Drops Charges Agianst Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, al-Qaida Suspect in the 2000 USS Cole bombing

REPREHENSIBLE!!! CHARGES DROPPED.

Barack Hussein Obama’s executive order which mandates that the military commissions Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiribe halted at Gitmo has paved the way for charges to dropped against Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, an al-Qaida suspect in the 2000 USS Cole bombing. Far be it that we let a “symbol” like Gitmo get in the way of charges against an enemy of America.

The Pentagon’s senior judge overseeing terror trials at Guantanamo Bay dropped charges Thursday against an al-Qaida suspect in the 2000 USS Cole bombing, upholding President Barack Obama’s order to freeze military tribunals there. The charges against suspected al-Qaida bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active Guantanamo war crimes case.

The legal move by Susan J. Crawford, the top legal authority for military trials at Guantanamo, brings all cases into compliance with Obama’s Jan. 22 executive order to halt terrorist court proceedings at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.

Once again we have a Democratic administration that has no idea how to handle terrorism. That’s it President Obama, let’s give terrorist criminal trials in the US and afford them all the liberties of a US citizen rather than military tribunals at GITMO. Heaven forbid we must allow the military commission process to go forward.

The ruling also gives the White House time to review the legal cases of all 245 terror suspects held there and decide whether they should be prosecuted in the U.S. or released to other nations.

Obama was expected to meet with families of Cole and 9/11 victims at the White House on Friday afternoon to announce the move.

USS_COLE

Oh but wait, this will make President Barack Hussein Obama’s decision on dealing with Gitmo terrorists much better. I am sure family victims of terrorism want to hear you nuance your way through this cluster.  The Obamamessiah is going to will meet with victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the USS Cole bombing and their families as his administration reviews how to handle detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. More useless talk from “The One” as he endangers America and Americans. Barack Obama is proving everyone correct who had called him naive during the Presidential campaign.

The White House said in a statement that Obama “wants to talk with these families about resolving the issues involved with closing Guantanamo Bay — while keeping the safety and security of the American people as his top priority.”

Obama has been assailed by conservative critics who say the decision to close the facility within a year will lead to putting many of those terrorists back on the street.

The president has defended that decision, saying that closing the facility will make the country safer by putting an end to one of the most controversial symbols of U.S. efforts to fight terrorism, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He said that symbol has helped terrorist groups to recruit new volunteers.

Barack Obama did take the following oath didn’t he? Michelle Malkin seems to have the same concerns regarding national security, “While President Doom wallows in the politics of fear to salvage the failing stimulus behemoth, a national security mess looms”.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Are the charges being dropped temporarily? So they say. However, these trials were already going forward. It is almost as if Barack Obama is giving zero consideration to victims families of terrorism. How Presidential.

UPDATE I: From the Gateway Pundit: It’s Friday… Time For Obama To Free the Terrorists & Kill The Unborn

UPDATE II: The Corner simply calls Obama’s actions distressing … Are we back to September 10, 2001?

UPDATE III: Obama Meets with US Cole Families

Imagine this, meeting with families of terrorism to tell them that he, The Obamamessiah, is worried about detainees not getting their day in court. Could you imagine? BS’ing these families with cute persuasive speeches is not the answer. Prolonging these people’s misery and playing with their emotions is a dangerous path that Obama is taking. The time for talk and speeches is over.

Some of the victims’ relatives said they welcomed Obama’s gesture. Still, they aren’t entirely convinced that his decision to close the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, facility, where terrorism suspects are being detained, and halt legal action on their cases is the right thing to do.

Obama has expressed concerns about the fact that detainees have been held for years without trial. He has signed an executive order to close the facility within a year while the administration reviews other options for seeing that the detainees get their day in court.

UPDATE III: Obama Feels Cooped up in DC, Time to Hit the Road

President Obama, the campaign is over, it’s time for you to do your job in Washington, DC. It’s time to face the music for your political decisions, not run from them.

Asked if the president is already starting to feel cooped up, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs smiled and said: “Safe to say.”

“Look, you know, some of you have covered him and some of you haven’t,” Gibbs told reporters in his daily briefing on Friday. “But he’s a bit of a restless soul.”

I can’t believe Obama has the nerve to face those families. I bet before the year is over, something will happen and we will be fighting those SOB’s on our own soil. Just wait and see.Jimmy Cater couldn’t fight, Bill Clinton wouldn’t fight and now we have another weak sister in charge of the finest and strongest military ever assembled in the history of man. I hope the families of the USS Cole victims give him hell! One thing I have always said is that one of the requirements for being Commander and Chief of this country should be you would have to have served in the Military!!!! Obama couldn’t lead a half dozen boy scouts!!

Mega dittos to topcat08. We are in for real trouble with this disciple of Jimmy Carter. He has really drunk the kool aid if he thinks that he can negotiate with these butchers but Im’ beginning to wonder if he is not one of them.

You can only bitch about it if you didn’t vote for McCain or Obama. A Republican administration in 2009 would have done the exact same thing.

Listening to Rush/Hannity must cause short-term memory loss.

    7. flippy on February 6th, 2009 9:22 am

Obviously we thought he was guilty and that is why we arrested him years and years and years ago. Why would he have not already been tried and buried in some SuperMax somewhere? Our country is perfectly capable of swift justice. This guy hasn’t even been arriagned yet.

So give him a trial. Let’s give him a trial and let him disappear deep into a supermax somewhere and we will never hear from him again.

    8. Joshua Ferguson on February 6th, 2009 9:22 am

Hmmm. I dunno. Putting people on trial for their crimes, instead of keeping them locked up indefinitely seems like the moral high-ground to me.

Would these guys do the same for us, if the roles were reversed? Hell no, they’d keep any U.S. soldier locked up forever (if they had the infrastructure). But that’s what makes America better than extremists; we actually have /rules/ and /rights/, even for those that we think don’t deserve them.

In the end, the ones found guilty will pay for what they did. The ones that are innocent should be sent back to their respective countries. Can’t just keep people locked up, without trials.

#6: obama was bragging about how he was going to fix the country. now that he is up to his neck in controversity, he wants to blame the previous party. just like his brothas & sistas , he wants to blame everyone else for his shortcomings.
all he has to do is detail to the penny what “our” tax money is being spent on. it’s just that the republicans are doing the same thing to him as the democrats did to bush.politics were created to fool the american people. and barry sho be foolin now ! simple solution, distribute this money to the tax paying citizens and they will pay off home loans, buy cars, homes , clothes, food, travel. but this is not intended to help taxpayers the only ones to benefit are the wealth, and politicians

I don’t agree with the closing of Guantanamo but I do think that we should have trials for these prisoners or let them go back to their respective countries. If they are guilty of crimes then punish them, if not, let them go. I do not see how we can hold people without charges for this long but I’m guessing they are considered P.O.W.’s?

I’m really starting to get worried about his inexperience and what he is getting us into.

I agree with txchic….I don’t think he knows his head from his a$$hole.

    14. Richard on February 6th, 2009 10:16 am

Meanwhile, in the rush to shut Guantanamo, we’re finding that nobody wants to bring the prisoners to their own states, for fear that doing so might provoke terrorist attacks.

So what DO we do with them? Let them all go?

Unfortunately, I’ve read that 11 or so freed “victims” of Guantanamo have gone back to al-Qaida. And are fighting alongside them again.

Maybe a “take no prisoners” motto is what we need.

      I AM SO ANGRY!

Tom Daschle, and Nancy Killefer are two of the finest, and most competent public servants you could possibly hope for in these appointments. They have been assassinated by the Washington healthcare lobby through their paid Bush Republican henchmen in congress. These Bush republicans are the same people blocking the economic recovery plan put forth by the Obama administration.

I am BURNING MAD America. And you should be too. Tome Daschle and Nancy Killefer were exactly what we needed to help turn this country around and fix our economy, and catastrophic healthcare crisis.

If I were their boss I would tell them to get right back to Washington. And dare congress to not approve them. How ridiculous is it to reject highly qualified people that this country needs just because they made a mistake on their taxes. Don’t stand for that anymore America. They apologized, and paid their taxes, and that should be it. Their country needs them. But President Obama has to do what he thinks is best. I understand that. I’M JUST SO MAD at the anti American Bush Republicans.

Like many of you I have been trying to enjoy the after glow of this Beautiful historic election. But I see that the republicans in congress and their cohorts aren’t going to be good sports, and LOSER’S!

      SO BE IT!

In spite of President Obama’s repeated offers, and gestures of collegiality to Republicans. Bush Republicans have seized upon every opportunity to stab President Obama in the back. And by doing so they are stabbing you, and the rest of the American people in the back. Well, you don’t have to put up with that. And you shouldn’t put up with that. President Obama has only been on the job two weeks. And he inherited two wars, and the worst economy since the great depression.

We had an election. And president Obama, and the democrats won BIG. And Bush Republicans lost miserably!

The Bush Republicans are the ones responsible for the worst economic crisis since the great depression. And the Bush Republicans are responsible for the worst healthcare crisis in American history. A healthcare crisis that is killing hundreds of thousands of you every year. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Insured, and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies.

President Obama, and the Democrats should take back all the concessions they granted the Bush Republicans, and tell them to put up! or shut up!

Everyone, start calling and contacting these Bush Republicans and tell them to stop blocking President Obama, and the Democrats recovery plan. And stop trying to block, and corrupt healthcare reform. Tell them to get on board with President Obama and the Democrats, or GET OUT!!

If these Bush Republicans refuse to cooperate I want all of you to immediately begin the process of removing them from office by every legal means possible. Including impeachment, and recall. I want you to bring the full weight and power of the movement down on their heads that swept President Obama, and the Democrats into control of the whitehouse, and congress. Take no prisoners. Use all the techniques you learned over this past historic election. Be flexible, creative, adaptable, and relentless like you were in the past.

To my cyber warriors I call on you again. You are among the best and the brightest. I call on you to move this fight from the cyber world to the living rooms, dens, and work places of the voters these Bush Republicans misrepresent. I know I can count on you. This is a fight worth fighting.

To my fellow World citizens. As an American I invite, and welcome you and your advise, input, and help. By delaying Americas recovery, and healthcare reform, these Bush Republicans are delaying our commitment to your recovery, and to being the better America for you that we aspire too.

I had hoped it would not come to this after our historic election. I had hoped that the Bush Republicans would respect the overpowering will of the people, and the World. But I guess not. All the Bush Republicans really care about is them-selves. Well, SO BE IT! Lets finish the job.

      Sincerely

      jacksmith — Working Class :-)

      #16 & #17:
“Many Canadians have objected to the policies of the United States in dealing with terrorists and enemy combatants held at the Guantanamo prison.
It happens that I also regard the prison in Guantanamo as a liability in the fight against radical extremism and as president of the United States I will close it.”
      John McCain 6/21/08

It’s kinda difficult to tell the world you stand for justice and liberty when you’ve got people held at Gitmo with no due process of law.

“Friday’s meeting may, in part, be to explain that the charges in those cases can be reinstated at a later date in some different form of military commissions system. The tactic was also used by the Bush administration when it wanted to stop various proceedings at Guantanamo. The Pentagon under Bush dismissed without prejudice charges in six cases and reinstated them later in three of those cases.

If the case had proceeded against Nashiri, a Saudi facing capital charges, a guilty plea could have boxed in the administration. The legal principle of double jeopardy would apply, and it would have been very difficult to move his case to another court, according to defense attorneys.”
      2/6/09 WaPo

Bush dismissed without prejudice, McCain would have closed Gitmo with the same end result, and Obama is doing it.

Sorry to bust partisan bubbles. I guess you should have voted for someone other than McCain.

Or your not clear on what “dismissal without prejudice” means.

    30. yoyo muffintop on February 6th, 2009 5:42 pm

Ohhh, now some of you are interested in terrorist attacks on Americans/American interests overseas.
Funny..you weren’t doing that recently when Bush was going on his legacy tour. It was all about “we haven’t been attacked on American soil”.

But now that you’re apparently interested…Under GWB and the Republican Administration there have been 22 terrorist attacks involving US interests/US citizens or directed at the US with US injuries and US deaths overseas. 22. This is leaving out soldiers in Iraq/Afganistan. 22.

So much for the “Bush kept us safer” meme.

I guess overseas attacks on Americans only interest some of you when it’s politically expedient. Comical.

Looks like the family members of those killed and the Commanding Officer of the USS Cole have a different opinion of what the President is doing.
Looks all the inflammatory rhetoric posted was for naught. Although it is entertaining watching some of you go completely off the deep end:

John Clodfelter of Mechanicsville, Va., whose son, Kenneth, was killed in the Cole bombing, said he came to the meeting with apprehension over the decision to close the prison and the delay in prosecutions. But after listening to the president and being assured that the terror suspects would not be released, Mr. Clodfelter said his opinion changed.

“I did not vote for the man, but the way he talks to you, you can’t help but believe in him,” Mr. Clodfelter said on Friday evening. “He left me with a very positive feeling that he’s going to get this done right.”

The president and his advisers are reviewing the cases, aides said, to ensure that the 245 suspects at Guantanamo Bay are afforded their legal rights. The review will determine whether the terror suspects will be and tried in U.S. courts or dispatched to other countries for prosecution.

Retired Cmdr. Kirk Lippold, who represents victims of the Cole and was the commanding officer of the vessel at the time of the attack in 2000, has disagreed with the decision to close the prison. But in an interview after the meeting, he said he was very pleased with the president’s explanation and commitment to bringing the suspects to justice.

“It went far better than I had imagined,” Commander Lippold said Friday evening. “I was surprised with how well it went.”

      http://tinyurl.com/bmkxfg

      And more:
Clodfelter said he and his wife had been under the mistaken impression that al-Nashiri and other terror suspects would be freed from the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.

“I initially came into this meeting with very negative thoughts, thinking ‘Why the heck are you releasing these people?’” he said.

However, the Clodfelters said Obama told the families that he did not want to release terror suspects but restore order to the legal process. .

“He kind of calmed us down,” Gloria Clodfelter said. “I agree with him whole-heartedly that [Guantanamo] is a symbol for terrorists.”

Since Obama’s earnest drive to convince the nation to weaken its economic strength through redistribution as well as weaken its national defense, has confirmed the very threats to our Republic’s survival that the Constitution was designed to avert, it no longer is sustainable for the United States Supreme Court and Military Joint Chiefs to refrain from exercising WHAT IS THEIR ABSOLUTE CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO DEFEND THE NATION FROM UNLAWFUL USURPATION. The questions of Obama’s Kenyan birth and his father’s Kenyan/British citizenship (admitted on his own website) have been conflated by his sustained unwillingnes to supply his long form birth certificate now under seal, and compounded by his internet posting of a discredited “after-the-fact” short form ‘certificate’. In the absence of these issues being acknowledged and addessed, IT IS MANIFEST THAT OBAMA REMAINS INELIGIBLE TO BE PRESIDENT UNDER ARTICLE 2 OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. Being a 14th Amendment “citizen” is not sufficient. A “President” MUST BE an Article 2 “natural born citizen” AS DEFINED BY THE FRAMERS’ INTENT.

    40. yoyo muffintop on February 6th, 2009 10:57 pm

Hey Folks pay no attention to yoyo brainlesstop it’s a very sick troll. poor thing must be agonizing over waking up every day trying to come up with more BS to get under your skins. Just ignore it.

    42. Scared Monkeys on February 7th, 2009 9:15 am

The sad reality is that Obama believes that terrorist being held at GITMO have more of a right to a speedy trial then the families have rights for justice for their murdered loved ones.

The sad reality is that a naive Obama has moved back to a September 10, 2001 mentality.

Terrorist are supposed to be treated like common criminals. What a circus this will be when they are given trials in the US with all the rights that are provided to a defendant.

It will then be said that we cannot try these people because of the fear of turning over sensitive docs to the enemy and thus threatening national security.

We have seen this played out already in the Clinton Administration.

That’s just it, the terrorists who took innocent American lifes, whether on 9/11, on the USS Cole, the Beirut barracks, Lockerbie (sp?), etc., gave up their rights when they attacked America(ns)…

It should be all about protecting America and her legalized citizens against all enemies, foreign and domestic (including yoyo mutton arse). For Obama to take office and undo security measures that have been put in place to protect us is irresponsible (not to mention insane), to say the least. We have to have a strong national defense.

The terrorists prisoners at GITMO don’t fall under the Geneva Convention (but, you already know these things). We were not at war with Al-Qaida on 9/11. Al-Qaida has made it’s bed, now it can lye in it. The terrorists shouldn’t have the right to due process either.

It is truly sad :-( Obama will drag our nation to new lows, lows that the world has never seen before…

So true…LOL! Remember folks, don’t feed the trolls ;-) I know, I’m guilty! I need to practice what I preach.

I used to feed that troll yoyo but I’ve since realized that arguing with a moron will only lower me to his level so I have decided not to feed the troll anymore and ignore his childish and ignorant posts. I feel much better now. There will always be one or two trolls on every message board that like to stir the pot and try to get under people’s skin.

I’ve noticed that yoyo mutton arse is a very nasty, small minded troll at that. yoyo kind of reminds me of my older brother. If you don’t agree with his opinions on politics, it gets ugly…lmao!

You are right…no need in lower ourselves way, way, way down to yoyo’s level. He’s not worth our time and energy.

Brilliant ! One true sensible post out of 46 mostly redneck “yee haa” kill em all Bush loving crazy assed posts.
Bush is gone (thank god) and the world is for sure a much safer place because of it, so get over it and start rallying behind your president as its supposed to be.
Of course he will have problems if the republicans try to block his every move, what is more important to you lot, fixing the economy and making the world a safer place, or getting revenge for being trounced by the democrats ?
      __________
SM: Yes Brad because you Liberals are so much more intelligent tan we folk who walk around with no shoes. BTW, who destroyed the economy? Who created the back and loan scandals? Who was responsible for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? It was bleeding heart liberals that controlled congress and ridiculous laws passed under Carter and Clinton.

Dems are in for a cold reality in life … Obama is not the messiah and his naive ways will come back to haunt this country.

What will you Obama-crazed Kool-aide drinkers do when it is realized that he is all talk and no substance?

They will do nothing because they will have no freedom to speak, no guns, be fed by the government while they work for the company (government) store, have poor healthcare and a lower standard of living, and they wont even know how they got that way!

brad and jack smith – get back on your meds and put down the crack pipe.

Competent? LOL! Yep, so competent that they can not pay their TAXES like EVERY OTHER AMERICAN except the ones who will get a free $1000 check from Obama every year.

Tom Daschle is a liar and a cheat. So is Killefier. And Geihtner to boot. Why didn’t these people feel the need to NOT pay their taxes on time. Competency runs in ALL gamets of life and these failed miserably. If you would have not paid taxes YOU would be in jail, plain and simple or you would have to pay the penalties that they did not have to pay.

jacksmith – i’d like to see you come and make me, A REPUBLICAN, get out. LOL! Once a tree hugger always a tree hugger. Liberals are pu$$ies who hide behind the cloak of BIG government.

jacksmith – you need a reality check. you are misinformed and misguided and your information quite frankly results in a pile of elephant dung. You have no clue. The Republicans are not holding up recovery and health care reform. Nancy Pelosi and her spending House Bill. You must be affected. You must be in line for your free handout each month off my tax money. Your project for the mentally ill in your hometown must have been lined out of the bill, thus making you “angry.” LOL!

      You’re a loon.

yoyo – if they took a consensus of that room, guaranteed that before and after most were still angry. You quoted a guy who said “he knows how to talk to you.” That’s exactly it with this tool Obama, he is good a rhetoric and saying it eloquently. That is his only redeeming quality is that he is a great communicator, but great communicators don’t make great leaders. Great actions by people make great leaders and so far his actions have amounted to SQUAT! SQUAT!

Get the F out of my face you co*ksucker!
