Barack Obama is Human After All … Those Pesky Trick White House Windows … Where’s the Door?

Who put this window here?

Obama_door

Finally, proof positive that Barack Obama is not the Messiah. It would appear that President Obama has not figured out which are the windows and which are the doors at the Oval Office. Will we see this picture over and over on cable and comedy shows? Hardly, because something as funny as a President walking into a window is only relegated for Republicans and GWB. The perception of Obama being a rookie President cannot be the image sent out to the people, even though it was damn funny. Late night comedy talk shows have said they don’t do skits on Obama, because there is no funny material. Really?

Bush_door

Can you imagine is George W. Bush had done something like this? Oh wait, he did. The 2005 departure from a press conference in Bejing China when GWB tugged on the locked door handles. To his defense, at least it did have a door handle. Of course with media bias, one event is lightly reported, the other becomes and endless video loop.

It’s only because he has a lot on his mind, ya’ know, like being president of the world.

I agree… Obamas are ripe for political satire. Now that the Democrats rule, we are no longer allowed to say anything that might hurt some ones feelings. It is a kinder gentler USA now. … I wonder if he has tried to pick any apples yet from the fake security trees.

Anyone happen to hear the first hour of Coast to Coast last night. Guest Dr. Katherine Albrecht was talking about some of the things we should be concerned about with the new administration. Not the least of which is universal health care, and allowing all of our private medical records to be made public by 2014…. Universal health care may be a scam to make politicians rich.

… Border crossings at state lines where they will scan cards with rfid chips… Big government tracking every move we make. Some things are laughable, but other actions signed into law are going to furl some eyebrows. I for one do not want big brother (government) watching over me….

If a Republican was as big a novice as Barack Obama and they did something like this it would stick to them like Potato”e” did to VP Quayle.

If one cannot laugh at themself, who can they laugh at?

Media bias? Oh, come now …. Look at all the media pundits that have expressed outrage at the fact that the Obama inauguration cost $150 million in a time of economic crisis, whereas the second Bush inauguration cost $45 million four years earlier.

Yes, look at all the media outrage at that ….

There must be some, somewhere, anyway….

    8. Richard on January 29th, 2009 10:27 am

By the way, according to one writer (I don’t have the figures at hand), the “carbon footprint” of the Obama inauguration was the greatest ever, due to the numbers of private jets that flew in.

      Stuff like that.

No doubt Al Gore will be yelling and screaming.

      No doubt….

Oh, boy, here we go …..

Obama signs bill making equal-pay lawsuits easier
      Associated Press

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signed an equal-pay bill into law Thursday before cheering labor and women leaders who fought hard for it and the woman whose history-making lawsuit gave impetus to the cause.

Obama, choosing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act as the first bill to sign as president, called it a “wonderful day” and declared that ending pay disparities between men and woman an issue not just for women, but for all workers.

With Ledbetter standing by his side, Obama said she lost more than $200,000 in salary, and even more in pension and Social Security benefits that she “still feels today.” He then signed the measure that effectively nullifies a 2007 Supreme Court decision and makes it easier for workers to sue for discrimination by allowing them more time to do so.

“Making our economy work means making sure it works for everyone,” Obama said. “That there are no second-class citizens in our workplaces, and that it’s not just unfair and illegal — but bad for business — to pay someone less because of their gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion or disability.”

Ledbetter said she didn’t become aware of the large discrepancy in her pay until she neared the end of her 19-year career at a Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plant in Gadsden, Ala, and she filed a lawsuit. But the high court held in a 5-4 decision that she missed her chance to bring the action.

First lady Michelle Obama, in a separate reception with Ledbetter in the State Dining Room, praised her courage and principles. “She knew unfairness when she saw it, and was willing to do something about it because it was the right thing to do — plain and simple,” Mrs. Obama said.

Ledbetter said the richest reward is that because of the new law, the nation’s daughters and granddaughters will have a better deal.

“That’s what makes this fight worth fighting,” Ledbetter said. “That’s what made this fight one we had to win.”

Earlier, the president appeared in a jammed East Room, and his entrance and many lines of his brief remarks were met with happy applause and yells.

He paid special tribute to Ledbetter, who fought for the bill even though it won’t allow her to recover any money for herself.

And in the room were the living symbols of this fight: Nancy Pelosi, first woman speaker of the House, and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who took her pursuit of the presidency further than any other woman, even though she ultimately lost to Obama in the Democratic primary.

Of Ledbetter, Obama exclaimed: “This grandmother from Alabama kept on fighting, because she was thinking about the next generation.”

Ledbetter became a regular feature in Obama’s campaign for the White House, addressing the Democratic National Convention in Denver last year and traveling to Washington aboard Obama’s train for the inauguration ceremonies. Obama spoke strongly in support of legislation to change the Supreme Court decision during his campaign and the Democratic-controlled Congress moved it to the top of the agenda for the new session that opened this month.

The high court said a person must file a claim of discrimination within 180 days of a company’s initial decision to pay a worker less than it pays another worker doing the same job. Under the new bill, given final passage in Congress this week, every new discriminatory paycheck would extend the statute of limitations for another 180 days.

Congress attempted to update the law to extend the time, but the Bush White House and Senate Republicans blocked the legislation in the last session of Congress

Obama cited Census Bureau figures that women still receive only about 78 cents for every dollar that men get for doing equivalent jobs — “women of color even less,” he said.

The measure, which amends the 1964 Civil Rights Act, also applies to discrimination based on factors such as race, religion, national origin, disability or age.

      (end of article)

I’m sure that we all support equal pay for equal work. But note that this law overturns the court’s decision on WHEN such suits have to be filed.

According to an article in The Wall Street Journal some days ago, this bill erases time limits on such suits. You were underpaid thirty years ago? Now you can go back and sue.

Guess this is a bailout for the lawyers….

How much money will companies have to set aside to meet the possible costs of such lawsuits?

Another thing: this says that there are inequities in the wages of male and female workers. But not all workers hold the same jobs.

I would expect, for example, that a scientist with a doctorate in microbiology would be getting more pay than I would if I were employed in the field of microbiology. Why? Because he knows a hell of a lot more about it than I do!

Too bad there’s no breakdown of such skills….

i like Michelle 100 times more than Palin.

Palin is just a empty puppet gone mad.
but i hope she stays around to wreck the GOP a bit more.

#14 GWB has a sense of humor and could laugh at his faux pas, it just shows he’s human. How do you know that BHO isn’t making a stupid face, you can’t see anything but the back of his head. Nice try though.

I’m sure you do like Michelle Obama and that’s your choice. I happen to like Sarah Palin, that’s my choice. Why all the hate towards Palin? Sounds like she really made you dems nervous or is it jealousy? hmmmmm I hope she stays around too…Sure will be nice to have her in the White House after this train wreck.

We didn’t need the proof that Obama is not the messiah, we never thought he was…it’s you koolaide drinkers that need a reality check.

#20 YoMuffonTop what are you talking about ???

    24. yoyo muffintop on January 30th, 2009 1:10 am

      Bush 2005:
Parties/Festivities/Balls-$42.3 million (Paid for by donations)
      Security/Cost of Federal Holiday/Clean-up – $115
      Total: $157 million

      Obama 2009:
Parties/Festivities/Balls-$45-50 million (Paid for by donations)
      Security/Cost of Federal Holiday/Clean-up – aprox $115 million
      Total: $165 million

400,000 people for Bush, 1.8 million for Obama. Per person much cheaper spend for Obama.

The Washington Post 1/20/2005: “The $40 million does not include the cost of a web of security, including everything from 7,000 troops to volunteer police officers from far away, to some of the most sophisticated detection and protection equipment.”

The Obama number is being compared with the cost of the Bush inauguration in 2005…minus the money spent on security. And security was pretty high in 2005 and rightly so.
2 completely different calculations being compared side-by-side.

    25. yoyo muffintop on January 30th, 2009 2:02 am

Newsflash to #11 Richard: Barefoot and pregnant went out with the age of the two-income household.

What this law does allow is for a woman to bring suit against an employer, at which point it’s the job of the justice system to determine if discrimination has, indeed, taken place. The former law only allowed a woman six months from the MOMENT the pay discrepancy began. In Lilly Ledbetter’s not-so-unusual case, she didn’t even KNOW about the discrimation until much later. Basically, the old law said it was fine to punish women for being female…as long as you could hide it for six months.

He’s NOT president of the world – he’s the president of the US – not even close. And he’s allowed to make mistakes as he’s human, not God.

    31. ANewGirl on February 1st, 2009 2:16 am

#30- Debbie…No, no my Dear. Didn’t you hear that Barack Obama really IS God? You know, kind of the like the Second Coming of Christ in the 21st Century. You obviously haven’t finished your Kool-Aide.

    32. Michelle on February 1st, 2009 4:38 pm

      Oh I get it now.

Barack Obama is allowed to make mistakes but George Bush wasn’t.
