Caroline Kennedy … Not Ready For Prime Time NY Senate Seat … “You Know” She Wants to be a Senator?

Her name is the sole reason she even dares go for it. Camelot must be Gaelic for chutzpah.

Why does our Congress and Senate have such low approval ratings? Is is because Americans are tired of the fact that these people literally do nothing effective. Tired of the privilege and entitlement. Long ago politicians forgot what it meant to do the work of the people. Maybe it is because when it comes to privilege these candidates never were “the people”. Maybe part of the problem is that we do not elect the best people for the job.

We complain about entitlement and then along comes Caroline Kennedy for Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat and all is supposed to change because her only qualification is that she is a Kennedy. We are supposed to all be in awe of the Kennedy name, drop to out knees and pray toward Hyannisport and the Kennedy compound.  Are Senate seats supposed to be about entitlement? Clearly, Caroline Kennedy is not ready for prime time.

Some top Democrats were certain Gov. Paterson, a close-to-the vest electorate of one, would find Kennedy irresistible now and as a running mate in two years. All others were chopped liver next to her sudden star power.

But a strange thing is happening on the way to the coronation. The wheels of the bandwagon are coming off. Fantasy is giving way to inescapable truth.

That truth is that Kennedy is not ready for the job and doesn’t deserve it. Somebody who loves her should tell her.

Her quest is becoming a cringe-inducing experience, as painful to watch as it must be to endure. Because she is the only survivor of that dreamy time nearly 50 years ago, she remains an iconic figure. But in the last few days, her mini-campaign has proved she has little to offer New Yorkers except her name.

Talk about failing your job interview. Here is a hint to all job seekeers during your interview, do not ever use the phrase, “you know”. As Hot Air states, ‘The more you know about Caroline…’

 Hat Tip: Cuffy Meigs video

Honestly, what is the difference between what is going on in Illinois with Blagogate, fee for Obama Senate seat, as opposed to what is perceived as a quit pro quo Ted Kennedy endorsement to Barack Obama? What is a Kennedy family endorsement worth to a Democratic Presidential candidate? I would dare say more than $1 million. So we ask ourselves, what are the qualifications of Caroline Kennedy to be Senator?

Asked about her qualifications, she fell back on gibberish and the Kennedy name.

“As a mother, as an author, as an education advocate and from a family that really has spent generations in public service, I feel this commitment,” she said. “This is a time when nobody can afford to sit it out, and I feel I have something to offer.”

The “sit it out” part is revealing. Among those who want the job, she has done the least public service by any measure. She didn’t even vote in about half the contested elections in the last 20 years.

KIDS & HUBBY ARE ALL ABOARD RUN FOR SENATE – AND OBAMA’S ‘ENCOURAGING’

Kennedy says 9/11, Obama led her to public service. Why didn’t she run for office sooner then seeing that 9/11 occurred in 2001? The point here being, run for office rather than being appointed.

Does anyone have the the guts to tell a Kennedy that it is over?

UPDATE I: Caroline Kennedy says she’s best for the job

Talk about living in fantasy land, Caroline Kennedy is now talking about why she believes she is the best person to replace Hillary Clinton as the US Senator from NY. What is it with these people that they live in such denial with allusions of grandeur. Hot Air has a poll that states 52% of of Americans think Caroline’s qualified. Why are we supposed to give people with the last name of Kennedy a free pass? What makes these people so special when they have literally accomplished nothing but be born into a family?

The question isn’t whether life experience matters, it’s why Caroline’s life experience should matter more than any other woman’s (or man’s). Unless the people polled mean to suggest that every Ivy League grad who’s raised a family is qualified for Senate, they’re giving her bonus points based on nothing more than privilege.

i’d rather have caroline’s 30l “you know” than obama’s endless “uuhhhhhhh”s as he tries to parse everything he says so he can say tomorrow that we misunderstood what we heard him say today. caroline is at least “real”. obama is still a lying empty suit.

this whole subject really gets to me. kennedy is more qualified than hillary was for the job. yeah, hillary may have had 8 years in the white house when policy was being decided but kennedy has grown up with politics a huge part of her family life.

face it folks… any dem is going to screw it up & do a crappy job. caroline is no better nor worse than anyone else the left has to offer up. does she have the whole “entitlement mentality”? probably so but then again imo hillary had more of that “entitlement mentality”. especially since she sucked up the abuse & spared the country from a public divorce. give me a scrappy lady who’s self-made over these two any day of the week!

Here’s the question: Is Caroline a patriot like her father and Uncle Bobby, or is she treasonous like Teddy and Patrick and Arnold? She has never once publicly revealed who killed her father, uncle and brother. JFK did his utmost to conserve the nation. By all indications, Caroline is a left-wing socialist.

    6. Miss-Underestmated on December 29th, 2008 12:37 pm

Hmmm let’s see, Carolyn you say you deserve this because you are after all a Kennedy. I say we (taxpayers) don’t deserve you, because after all you are a Kennedy.

America’s Most Dysfunctional Family Rears Ugly Head

This is the woman, YOU KNOW, who never voted, you know, but wants to be a Senator, you know?

Talk about entitlement and unqualified celebrity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many of the immoral majority can boast her uncle impregnated, then drowned a woman, her brother killed two sisters in a plane crash, and her cousin killed a young girl with a 9-iron? (Not to mention her drug addicted cousin who used to run around the yard naked, right in my sister’s neighborhood in Cohasset! He was later killed in a skiing accident.)

      Incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    10. rightknight on December 29th, 2008 3:30 pm

It might be reasonable that all those voters currently ‘on the dole’
are not concerned with the spectrum of capabilities required of
a United States Senator. It is understandable that entitlement
recipients support the source of their income.

All the other voters have a chance to demand that their ‘elected’
officials are qualified and driven to serve the best interests of the
entire Country as a whole. Placeholders and Figureheads are simply
useless and patently detrimental to our well being.

      You know!

    11. Cheila on December 29th, 2008 3:47 pm

Thank GAWD someone finally made the Blago analogy! Only difference is Blago is idiot enough to get caught on tape. I don’t get people who deem this just fine and dandy. It is a dangerous predendent indeed.

My own father was a PhD and published author many times over. When he passed away, I didn’t dial up the University or the publisher and say, ‘Hey! When do I teach my first graduate class? When can I expect my junior high diary in paper back?? How about that first royalty check???” Ridiculous. Likewise, my father-in-law was a well respected basketball coach. My husband grew up seeped in the sport in every way–the sacrifice, the tradition…you name it. My husband, however, is 5’9″. When his father retired, I don’t seem to recall my husband standing at the door of the AD with his hat out. Instead, my husband chose a profession.

We, like most Americans, have MADE OUR OWN WAY on OUR OWN MERITS, not on the backs or the blood of our fathers. Shameless, and troubling. Seems to me someone should remind Caroline we fought a Revolution for a reason, and that we don’t REALLY have or want a King in this country.

All that being said, one can’t help but feel a wee bit sorry for Caroline. The poor thing most certainly fell out of the ugly side of the family tree, and apparently hit every branch on the way down. You know? ;)

Iam a Kennedy you know. We need another lawyer in the senate you know. If they are stupid in New York you know what will happen? :-)

If you take out the you knows, her interview is OK.

I thought Ted Kennedy was just a dummy then I heard the guy talking on Cspan. He is a smart cookie.
He has no excuses for messing up this country. Teddy takes credit for everything, but runs away from responsibility.

I also feel JFK and his Brother RFK had something to do with Marilyn Monroe death. President Johnson passed all the bills that the Kennedy legacy took credit for.

    16. HOPE on December 29th, 2008 8:34 pm

I think, for years, people had been waiting for John F. Kennedy, Jr. to run for office. We, as a nation, adored the salute that he gave his father as his casket was being drawn by a wagon. He started ‘George’ magazine, following in his mother’s footsteps and so, we waited. Unfortunately, an airplane crash would tragically take his life along with two others.

Caroline had always remained out of the limelight and that was okay. We know that she’s maintained the social functions regarding the Kennedy Library as well as other family legacies since the death of her mother, then her brother. And, I think she would make a fine Senator in time. Just as others in the past, the Senate is something you are never, fully prepared for, and you are forced to grow into it.

So I don’t have an opinion, one way or the other. I would suppose that it would be up to the people of New York whether they want her to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Although, I was a bit surprised with 31 you knows, given the eloquence with which her mother, father and even brother spoke with.

      To #16 – HOPE

Very lovely post. I agree with you completely about Caroline and her knowledge of politics. She grew up with politics which she learned at the knees of JFK, Bobby, her grandfather Joe and the rest of the family.

The problem is that most of the posters are too young to remember the Kennedy days. I was 19 when JFK was assassinated and I’m now 64.

      Go Caroline!!!

    18. Greg on December 29th, 2008 9:51 pm

Kennedy used the phrase “you know” about 140 times in a weekend interview with the New York Times.

Lets not forget John F Kennedy’s Vietnam war.
Over 58,000 lives lost. Kennedy’s adminstration put the troops in Vietnam. Nixon pulled us out.
Good people died because idiots made bad decisions.

    22. Richard on December 29th, 2008 11:12 pm

Sorry, but I think the only card that she has to play is her name. And her money.

Well, I am descended from a family who, in the early 1700s, were persecuted by the New England Puritans because they were Quakers and were opposed to certain aspects of the prevailing theocracy.

So does that entitle me to any more respect or prominence than anyone else on the block?

And does Caroline’s family lineage entitle her to ANYTHING? She seems to think so … I sure as hell don’t.

Unfortunately, we’re in the age where being a celebrity is tantamount to accomplishment, at least in the public eye.

To my mind, she’s as qualified as Paris Hilton.

Think that’s funny? They’re both celebrities, both are descended from prominent people, and both have (I assume) connections in Hollywood.

And neither, in my view, has any other accomplishment worth mentioning.

Come to think of it, since Hillary Clinton decided that SHE was entitled to a New York Senatorial seat, and moved there from Arkansas, why shouldn’t Paris Hilton do the same and move there from Hollywood or wherever she is?

Isn’t she a celebrity? And isn’t that what matters in America today?

    23. Richard on December 29th, 2008 11:13 pm

According to one article I read, Princess Caroline let it be known that she would never actually seek to be elected. What she wants is to be APPOINTED.

Well, icky-poo! Isn’t a princess entitled to that?

    24. Greg on December 29th, 2008 11:27 pm

Just want to back up my last post with the
      the facts.

May 1961 — Kennedy sends 400 United States Army Special Forces personnel to South Vietnam to train South Vietnamese soldiers following a visit to the country by Vice-President Johnson.
June 1961 — Kennedy meets with Khrushchev in Vienna. He protests North Vietnam’s attacks on Laos and points out that the U.S. was supporting the neutrality of Laos. The two leaders agree to pursue a policy of creating a neutral Laos.
June 1961 — Kennedy said, “Now we have a problem making our power credible and Vietnam looks like the place” to James Reston of the New York Times (immediately after meeting Khrushchev in Vienna).
October 1961 — Following successful NLF attacks, Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara recommends sending six divisions (200,000 men) to Vietnam.
February 1962 — Attempted assassination of Diem by two air force officers who bombed his palace, fails.

      Greg:

Don’t forget to mention that half the troops were to be pulled out of Viet Nam the week after his death. Ofcourse, four days after he was killed, the troops were doubled!

Kennedy was never for war. He wanted to establish peace, but once he knew it wasn’t possible he started to pull his troops. Many think that is why he was assasinated. To continue the war effort… which went on ten more years.

      .

      Hey Richard:

Never underestimate the power of good breeding, invaluable education and the experience of a diplomat… your whole life.

i’m still not seeing what the big issue is… so kennedy isn’t ready, neither was hillary!

we all know a dem will be appointed so you may as well brace yourself for whatever they throw under the bus.

    27. rightknight on December 30th, 2008 12:14 pm

Solution: We collect a bunch of men and women with good
family names, good educations, good intentions, good common
sense, and perhaps experience. Next we ask the voters to
select the most qualified-for-the-job person from this pool
      of talent.

      What are the odds?

    28. Richard on December 30th, 2008 1:18 pm

Hope, you say that she is in. Judging from what I have read, most New Yorkers seem to be irate that they are being looked at as likely to vote for someone whose claim to fame is … being famous.

I say again, my understanding is that Princess Caroline has said she won’t seek to be ELECTED … her only interest is in being APPOINTED.

Sorry … there are people out there with real accomplishments, not those who want to capitalize on their name.

    29. scott on December 30th, 2008 1:30 pm

Screw you liberals. This Kennedy refuses to answer pertinent questions about her stances on important issues and sounds oddly worse in how she speaks than Sarah Palin and yet you heap loads of praise on this woman and defend her readiness.

She does not have the cojones for this type of work, especially when she stated she would NOT run for the seat but wants to be appointed…the gull.

But when voters start putting morons like Franken into office I guess it shows that any dummy can be a US CONGRESS PERSON and maybe she is qualified. And by the way these senators and reps from both parties have bankrupted this country, she couldn’t be any worse, right?

      I digress.

Just because her Daddy, Uncle Ted and Uncle Bobby were in politics does not mean she immersed herself in it. So what she wrote two books on the Constitution? So what she likes to help public schools when she would not dare send her own kids to a public school?

Whoever said she was left-wing socialist was dead on. There is a reason she stands so closely with Obama.

#9, you don’t have to vote to be a senator, ask barry.

All this dialouge has got me thinking, we never really got to see how the “Kennedy’s” agendas would have played out. History could only be written based on the concepts and not the results.

If Pres. Kennedy had lived through his first term, what would the world be like today?

    33. dennisintn on December 31st, 2008 10:32 am

caroline kennedy is every bit as qualified to be a senator from new york as obama is to be to president. as far as palin was oncerned, she had more demonstrated qualities of expertise and experience than biden and obama combined.

An empty pantsuit can be trained to satisfy the wants
