Obamamessiah Day an Annual Holiday in Small Central Alabama County … Misguided Recognition
File this one under … please tell me how people sitting around not working, not showing initiative and being idle shows anyone a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved. Recognition is one thing; however, this is completely misguided.
The Perry County Commission in Alabama voted 4 to 1 to observe the second Monday in November as “The Barack Obama Day.” You mean it is not already a National holiday? What, they have not started printing money with Obama’s face on all forms of US currency? Honestly, how ignorant can some people be in their zest to praise The One, the Obamamessiah. Lost by the commission is fact that Obama Day will cost to the county much, which has a $2.2 million annual payroll and is one of the poorest in the state. In these tough economic times, this is how a state municipality wisely uses their money? Maybe they will get in line for a Federal bail out, after all it’s an important cause.
A small central Alabama county whose mainly black residents gave Barack Obama more than 70 percent of the vote on Election Day has created an annual holiday in honor of the president-elect.
The Perry County Commission voted 4 to 1 to observe the second Monday in November as “The Barack Obama Day.” County offices will close and its roughly 40 workers will get a paid holiday. The sponsoring commissioner, Albert Turner Jr., said the holiday is meant to highlight the Democratic president-elect’s victory as a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved.
The majority of the county’s 12,000 residents are black.
The county commission’s three black members and one of its two white members voted for the resolution.
Or wait, is there space already being reserved at Mount Rushmore for Obama’s face to be carved in stone even though he has actually yet to accomplish anything other than being elected President.

I live in Alabama. I am PROUD to say I DO NOT LIVE IN PERRY COUNTY. Sadly, seems like our state is only recognized when stupid things like this happen. I did not vote for Obama either.
The Barack Obama Day thats bullshit
Why does he get his own Holiday? We already have a President’s Day, what is so special about him that he deserves his own Holiday?
Man! People are worshiping him like he’s the Messiah or something (which he certainly is not).
What I don’t get is why anyone would want to worship him over Christ. Makes me sick that this world has turned it’s back on Jesus.
I live in Alabama and Perry County is mostly black.. I surely did not vote for Obama, I don’t know what some people arr thinking.. or should I say smoking!!
i love it to see when people get enraged about this.
i hope more counties will follow.
Don’t forget, Obama hasn’t even taken office yet.
What kinds of accolades will be bestowed upon him once he does?
Maybe it will transform our national life into something like the song from The Wizard of Oz (wording is approximate only, from memory):
We get up at 12 and go to work at one;
An hour’s lunch; at two our day is done …
Jolly good fun!
well Michelle, somehow I have the feeling that they didn’t really ask mr. Barrack anything.
I think that he would basicly say the same thing your saying now.
roflmfao, why not declare a national holiday for him before he’s accomplished anything? he was the least accomplished candidate in either party and “they” elected him to be president.
dennisintn
“they” would be the American public. What “they” are you referring to?
Who cares anyways. Alabama is a state that celebrates “Confederate Memorial Day” with a day off.
The Confederacy is not something that should be fondly remembered.
Confederate Vice-President Alexander Stephens:
“[O]ur peculiar institution – African slavery as it exists among us – the proper status of the negro in our civilization,…was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution.”
Confederacy “foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests upon this great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery — subordination to the superior race — is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.”
YOYO,
If you’re gonna quote the confederacy, then you should also quote Abe Lincoln who said in his Emancipation Proclamation that this country COULD NOT survive with the negro faction as he said they should all be deported back to Africa where they could “attain the full measure of their manhood.” It may be of interest to note that then the designation “US citizen” was made to describe the ex-slaves. Prior to that we were all citizens of our states. Now we are all US citizens–get it?
I proudly call Alabama home! I was born and raised in Alabama, but moved to Indiana when I was 11 due to my father’s transfer. Man, did that ever suck, but we moved back home 4 years later.
Those people in Perry County can have their stanking “Osama bin Laden Barack SADDAM HUSSEIN Obama Day”!!

Obama is een Leijenaarrrr juuhh!
(Transl.: Google and me.)
The future U.S. president Barack Obama stems directly from the Leiden (NL) pilgrimsfamily ‘Blossom’.
Research has shown that the distant ancestors of Obama in Leiden have worked and lived before they left as ‘Pilgrim Fathers’ to America. Alderman Jan-Jaap de Haan (CDA, Culture) Friday in the Pilgrim Museum in Leiden made this public.
With this discovery Obama is the seventh U.S. President who has a direct ancestor in Leiden. It is a ten times great-great-grandfather.
The Pilgrims came to the city of Leiden in 1609 as refugees for the Protestant faith prosecutions in England. By fleeing to The Netherlands, they hoped to find religious freedom. From 1620 on they emigrated to North America to bring their own ideals of freedom into reality. In America, the Pilgrims are now regarded as the founders of the nation.
i have to wonder what percentage of the 70% of perry county are on welfare and do not work or
pay taxes ? or how many of them voted more than once ?
they may very well have an o.j. simpson day added later.
yo yo mutton arse –
Please allow me to educate you a little on “Confederate Memorial Day”. Alabama is not the only State that honors the South’s Civil War dead. Apparently there’s a Northern State or two who also honor the Conferate soldiers who died as well…
Read it, and weep
Confederate Memorial Day, also known as Confederate Decoration Day (Tennessee) and Confederate Heroes Day (Texas), is an official holiday and/or observance day in parts of the U.S. South as a day to honor those who died fighting for the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War.
States listed below observe this official holiday as follows:
Alabama - Fourth Monday in April (The surrender of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston to Union General William Sherman on April 26, 1865.)
Arkansas – January 19 (Robert E. Lee’s birthday, state holiday combined with Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday).
Florida – April 26 (See remarks at Alabama)
Georgia - April 26 (See remarks at Alabama)
Kentucky – June 3 (Jefferson Davis’s birthday)
Louisiana – June 3
Maryland – First Saturday in June
Mississippi – Last Monday in April
North Carolina – May 10 (The death of Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson in 1863 and the capture of Confederate president Jefferson Davis in 1865.)
Pennsylvania – Second Saturday in May (Observed by the Pennsylvania Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.)
South Carolina – May 10 (See remarks at North Carolina.)
Tennessee – June 3
Texas – January 19 (Confederate Heroes Day combines Robert E. Lee’s Birthday and Jefferson Davis’s Birthday, into one official holiday. Confederate Memorial Day is observed on April 26th.)
Virginia – Last Monday in May (Same as Memorial Day.)
since barry has over 30 million dollars left over from the campaign, why not donate that as a stimulus plan to the American people ? it would be a shame for that much money to go to some anti American group now wouldn’t it ?
Make sure all you liberal nutbags, donors to Obama, during these harsh economic times, that you donate to help pay Hillary’s debt…What an asshole to even ask for that…Bill could cover it.
When will you learn that this won’t be the first time he comes after your pocket to pay….
#14 Thanks Susan for your post. YO YO likes to turn everything into a racist issue.
bob – that’s a red herring.
#14 & #17 – The South seceded over slavery.
It doesn’t surprise me that both of you would rejoice that.
#17 – Michelle, You are welcome Yep, I’ve noticed that yoyo mutton arse tries to play the “race card” every chance it gets. Truly sad
#18 Again you don’t know what the hell you are talking about. Stop assuming you anything about me. I AM NOT a racist. The Confederate Holiday has nothing to do with racism. It is to remember the Confederate men & women who died fighting in the Civil War. Get your facts straight and stop trying to stir up racism.
#18 Why must everything with you be about race?
Just because a person is from the south doesn’t make them a racist. Confederate Memorial Day is a holiday to remember the war. It’s history. Just because it was an ugly time in our country’s history doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. It happened and it’s over but we still need to remember those that died. It is a part of history just as 9/11, WWI & WWII, Vietnam etc etc.
It’s people like you that can’t let it go and have to always make everything about racism.
Run along and find some constructive to do instead of trying to stir up racism as you seem to like to do so well.
You truly have some issues.
I HAVE BEEN READING THESE POSTS AND I AM FROM ALABMA BORN AND RAISED, AND I LEARNED EARLY ON IN MY LIFE ABOUT STEREOTYPING PEOPLE, NO MATTER WHAT COLOR THEIR SKIN IS, AND THAT SOUNDS EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. THE TRUTH IS WE DON’T KNOW HOW OBAMA IS GOING TO BE, OR ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IS GOING TO BE, ONLY TIME WILL TELL. I KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE WONDERING WHAT RACE I AM, AND THE ANSWER IS I AM WHITE, MY HUSBAND AND ONLY HUSBAND I HAVE EVER HAD IS ALSO WHITE, AND SO ARE MY CHILDREN. I TRY TO TEACH MY KIDS RIGHT FROM WRONG, AND TO TREAT EVERYONE WITH THE SAME RESPECT. I THINK AS FAR AS THE BARACK OBAMA DAY, THE PEOPLE HAVE THAT RIGHT. PEOPLE WOULDNT BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE IF MCCAIN WOULD HAVE WON AND PEOPLE VOTED FOR A MCCAIN DAY. WHETHER PEOPLE WANT TO ADMIT IT OR NOT , BARACH OBAMA IS THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, AND I MYSELF THINK THAT IS AN ACOMPLISHEMNT. PRESIDENT BUSH IS WHITE AND WHAT HAS HE DONE, I ONLY HAVE ONE ANSWER TO THAT AND THAT IS OPENING UP OIL EXPLORATION IN THE GULF. I GIVE HIM PRAISE FOR THAT.
