More Change You Can’t Beleive In … Obama Keeps Defense Secretary Robert Gates

CHANGE? Obama retains George W. Bush’s Secretary of Defense.

Is the LEFT starting to have buyers remorse with Barack Obama? Did I miss something or didn’t Barack Obama promise change during the Presidential campaign? He promised he would bring change to Washington. Unless Obama was referring to the change in his pocket he has yet to back up any of his Leftist pandering campaign promises of change. Obama constantly railed against Bush and McCain regarding the war in Iraq during the campaign. Claiming that McCain was just 4 more years of Bush.

Might someone want to explain how change in 4 more years of GWB’s defense secretary? Even the libs must be scratching their heads and grinding their teeth with this Obama move. Even the LEFT is asking where is the change? Of all the people Obama keeps for his Cabinet, he chooses the Secretary of Defense where Obama was most adamant against McCain/Bush with regards to Iraq. If this does not prove that Obama has no experience or judgment when it comes to war, nothing does. He feels the need to keep the status quo even though he constantly chided GWB’s military policies abroad. How many people who voted for “change” would have voted for Obama knowing he would have kept Gates?

Yet even more change that you can’t believe in coming from the Obama transition as all signs point to Barack Obama keeping on Defense Secretary Robert Gates. As The Gateway Pundit puts it, Change? More Like 4 More Years – Obama Will Keep Gates As Defense Secretary. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has agreed to stay on under President-elect Barack Obama, according to officials in both parties.

The fact of the matter is that keeping Robert Gates is a smart move given the present situation that the US finds itself in the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan and the tenuous situation with Iran, Russia, North Korea and Venezuela. That being said, we agree with Stop the ACLU that we won’t criticize Obama for the choice of Gates; however, we will criticize Obama for his pandering promises of change only to know that no such change could ever have occurred and the US be safe or Obama ever hoping to have a second term. Obama did nothing more than say anything to get elected and then deal with the consequences. Sounds like a typical politician to me.

CNN: Gates expected to stay on as Obama’s defense secretary

One source called it “all but a done deal” that the announcement could come as early as next week.

“It’s now pointing in that direction,” one of the sources close to the transition said of Gates being part of Obama’s national security team, which may include Sen. Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

“It’s likely to happen,” a second source close to the transition said of Gates staying on.

This source noted that Gates could stay for longer than a year if he and Obama end up working well together.

Hey awesome blog! I don’t agree with the views but it’s provocative and debate is always healthy.

IMHO if we’re gonna jump onto every single thing Obama does however, there’s not much use in discussing him. Just engage in some iranian-mob style cardboard-obama burning, everyday, it’s the equivalent!! :-)

Be honest, what if he had put a hardcore democrat at the post? you would have dissed that too. So here is Obama, not fully decided yet, making the decision to not mess with defense just yet, since the priority is now the economy. I don’t think that’s a bad decision, and the team is pretty good, along with many other decisions (http://www.spinwhip.com/obama) … soooo… if I may suggest… take it easy on the trigger :-)

Regardless of the snide and sophomoric remarksof the column, this is viewed as an intelligent and necessary move for our defense. Gates provides a steady hand for our security.

President-elect Obama is indeed making changes and I am looking forward to his program coming forward to pull us out of the mess the Bush administration left us with.

Congrats on a wise choice in naming Robert Gates. Sounds like the left AND right are in harmony this time in their tears. Ironic, but I guess the philosophy is whatever move is made, CRY!

(example of sophomoric remark regarding retention of Defense Secretary Robert Gates: ” If this does not prove that Obama has no experience or judgment when it comes to war, nothing does. “)

It (his campaign) and this (his choices) is all smoke and mirrors for what he has in mind in 2010 when the Bush tax cuts expire. He wants to calm the American people into a false sense of security before he gradually implements his marxist agenda. He is not going to forcefully inject his agenda, but do it a subtle way when the people are not looking. This is part of it. He will sooner than later move to the left as soothe the tensions that are coming from there. He is talking to these people behind closed doors and asking them to be patient.

This guy has fundamental flaws, such as not having a clue. Robert Rubin – a major reason Citi failed…his risks (subprime mortgages, etc…)while at the helm of Citi. The new Treasury Secretary, was the person behind the scenes that came up with the first bailout package that failed for AIG. He was also present and played some role in the fall of Lehman and others while he was in New York.

Don’t fall asleep on Obama…he is waiting for the “right” time!

you are such a hypocritical retard

    6. Jamie on November 26th, 2008 8:54 am

“Believe” is not spelled “Beleive!” Don’t you have spell check???? Editors???? Additionally, in regard to Obama, you are so biased that even when he does what you obviously would have wanted him to do, you are critical of him. Can’t win with you, no matter what happens – which shows that you swing all the way to the right and are not capable of unbiased reporting. This is unsettling, since people come here to read about what’s happening and you put your own slant on things. Hey, how about showing the video of Palin happily talking about turkey day while a live turkey is being butchered behind her? You betcha! I don’t see you reporting the dim-witted comments or actions from her on your website. At least Obama knows that Africa isn’t a country!! But, you just keep reporting the facts as you see them, because, hey…looking uninformed isn’t all that bad and ya never know, maybe somebody “beleives” you!

    7. Jeremy on November 26th, 2008 9:35 am

I think wingnuts like you kind of missed the point of voting for Obama. Few people, myself included, were supporting a socialist revolutionary. We just wanted to see pragmatism, competence, and the rule of law returned to government. If Obama had turned hard left, I’d be disappointed.

    8. yoyo muffintop on November 26th, 2008 9:53 am

      You Wingnuts are funny…

During the campaign, you couldn’t be silenced about the socialist and “far left wing” government that would be under Obama, despite what Obama was saying and showing.

Now that it is abundantly apparent President-elect Obama will run a pragmatic and efficient administration, you don’t know what to do with yourselves. All you can come up with is speculation on how upset the left will be. LOL!!! Sorry, it doesn’t really look that way.

I understand why all you Right Wing extremists, Hannity and Rush are so upset with an Obama presidency…he makes you all look like the political hacks that you are.

Really, stop the BS. No one – but Appalachia – buys it anymore.
Maybe you can just move to the sticks to join the other American Taliban…I “Beleive” a few nutjobs on here probably already have.

    9. Rusty Bridges on November 26th, 2008 10:06 am

“you” is spelled y-o-u, not “ya”. Wow, thats the concern, a spelling mistake, nobody has ever done that before. Sorry they don’t measure up to your excellence.

What you don’t get is the point of the post is that Obama promised change and it ain’t gonna’ happun! That was what the “smoke and mirrors” comment was about.

I’m glad to see his choice also and quite agree with it but for someone who based his campaign on the opposite of what he his doing is wrong. It’s called lying. I thought he was going to end the Iraq war on “day one”.

Cripes sake, anybody could be President if all you had to do was keep the same old cronies around.

As far as this site and the content goes, I’m not sure of the responsibility that the owner has to be fair and balanced, this is not mainstream media. Once again the un-intelligent liberal morons like Kay are out in small force. People like her who still continue to say George Bush solely put us in this mess should not be allowed to comment. Do you damn research first besides riding off the words of Obama! Isn’t it funny, that Obama is using some of the same people and same POLICIES as Bush. The blame goes all the way back to Jimmy Carter, to Bill Clinton and his “every American should own a home” policies that DE-REGULATED Fannie and Freddie which opened up ACORN and ultimately the sub-prime mortgage mess which is the MAIN COG of this finanical mess…period. This isn’t fully on GWB no matter how you slice it. Before you come on sounding stupid, do your research first. You also forget, the Dems have controlled Congress since 2006. This mess was created by BOTH sides! Get a clue!

The left is crying and whining. The New York Obama Times is already criticizing him and his choices. Do some research on Summers, the new Treasury Sec, Rubin.(see above)…

Jamie – get with the times dumbass. It has already been reported that the Africa comment was a hoax and MSNObamaBC even retracted their story. And so what? You don’t eat turkey on Thanksgiving? Turkeys get slaughtered to eat. Oh wait, are you a PETA-TARD and think Turkeys are treated unfairly? It’s called the circle of life…..the food chain….I’m tired of you hypocrites talking crap about Palin and this turkey when fat asses like you will be at the dinner table eating turkey! Too bad it was NON-story.

Jeremy- he wants to turn hard left but can’t, his advisers have told him, not now…but he will.

    11. scott on November 26th, 2008 10:46 am

NO you stop the BS…nobody buys what you and Obama are saying except those like you and your family that live in the hood and the inner city streets who voted for Obama on the promise of CHANGE….

How is it apparent he will run an efficient and pragmatic administration? Because he will still be governing under Bush policies you joke of human being? The people he is surrounding himself with are questionable characters with suspect involvement in the creation and continued creation of this financial mess? It’s these hypocritcal statements of yours….he has NOT even stepped in office but yet you can claim he will run an efficient government but we can not comment that he will not?

Take your head out of his ass and remember he is playing the political game with these appointments. Besides Gates is ONLY promised ONE-YEAR so he can stop with the BS.

Oh wait, how come Mr. Constitutional Law expert Obama did not know you can NOT hire a senator to a Cabinet position IF the salary of that position was raised while that senator was in office? Article 1 Section 6 of the U.S Constitution? Under this document, Hillary Clinton can not be Secretary of State. Will Obama BREAK Constitutional Law? If he does, it will signal his true beliefs of the document, that were pointed out in his interview when he said the courts did not do enough SOCIAL RE-ENGINEERING!

Don’t tell me where to move….I’m more American than you can ever dream of being. You sir, with your SOCIALISTIC AND MARXIST ideology are the traitor. I wish you, like many liberals do, commit a serious crime in UTAH where they could line you up in a firing squad for execution.

Political hacks? LOL! You are truly a moron of the grandest proportions! You aren’t a political hack? Why? Because only people that voted for Obama are political experts? F OFF! Go pound sand somewhere. Why don’t you move to San Francisco with all the other druthers of life and the microcosm of what the USA will become if a leftist agenda is moved towards in a year or so. Go live there with the drug addict, free-handout, losers where you belong!

It’s kind of hard to say that the man isn’t changing everything when he isn’t president yet. Choosing one person to stay so the transition goes smoother makes sense. He’s changing everything else but one thing. Please don’t call him a bad president until he becomes president.

i bet you guys are even going to cry when Obama delivers victory in Iraq.
‘he wanted to pull out, but gave us victory, that’s not change’. whine-whine-cry-sob-whine.
      pathetic.
better start without delay repairing that Republican Party trainwreck.

Obama can’t be victorious in Iraq as that process was already under way with the surge that has proved to work. We were already leaving areas of Iraq such as Fallujah.

Go ask Canada and Great Britain how universal health care is working out for them? How about health care RATIONING!

They want to eradicate 401K plans and force workers into paying for a government retirement plan? What’s next, the government setting wages for all workers across all of America to be on a government scale? Are you fu**ing kidding me?

      Saddle up people!

Gee, how does it feel to have YOUR President-elect bashed? We have listened to all the liberals bash BUSH for the last 8 years. You have not liked anything he has done but Hello, he has saved us from being under attack in the last 7 years. How are you enjoying the gas prices right now? You can thank Mr. Bush for that. You think that GWB is solely responsible for the mess we are in? Think again, the dems have controlled congress for the past 2 years and it’s the dems that think everybody deserves a home therefore, Fannie & Freddie should make sure everybody gets a loan whether they can pay it back or not.

Last time I checked this is a free country and Scared Monkeys is the owner of this blog and can’t post whatever they want on their blog and you have the right to go somewhere else that better suits your agenda.

To say this site is biased when the MSM is in Barrack Obama’s pocket is hypocritical. The media tells you what they want to you hear and you believe it. Oh but wait! They are not biased are they? lol

It is amazing how much kool-aide is being consumed by the Obama followers.

Again, I ask where is the change? in his pocket

nice try, talking about healthcare in Canada and the UK.
maybe they have to wait there a bit for non-life-threatening illnesses.
but at least there is universal healthcare.
there every human life IS valued.

of course the Republicans are scared of universal healthcare and other social policies of the Democrats.
because the Republicans ‘base’: the blue collar, lower-educated, clinging to religion and guns folks – they will benefit the most from the social policies.
they will be hooked on and dependent on the universal healthcare in a heartbeat.
and the will not wanting to ga back as soon as they realize the benefits of Unions.

you can scream for ages about Freddy and Fanny and Barney Franks…
BUT: the Republican Party is and has always been the party of the rich, greedy and selfish.
they PORTRAY themselves always as if they are not.
but that sham isn’t working anymore.
they’ve SCREWED their ‘base’ for too long now.

the Republican Party either has to split up in a Conservative and Moderate part – and as a result never win an election anymore, or at least for a very long time.
or continue on the bridge to nowhere they are on – and as a result also never win an election again.

    24. yoyo muffintop on November 26th, 2008 3:37 pm

Damn I love it when people say such things as “We haven’t had another attack since 9/11″ as if 9/11 doesn’t count.
Uh..yeah…the largest attack on American soil with the most civilian casualties is a sign of a good job. Ok…..lol.

It’s really bizarre when people crow about the fact that no one has died here at home in 7 yrs while more than 4,000+ of our finest have died overseas.

FYI #21 – the mastermind of 9/11 is still alive, in case you didn’t know.

    25. Michelle on November 26th, 2008 4:06 pm

You keep saying that the Republicans are for the rich and the democrats are for the poor but can you explain why Hollywood (actors, celebrities) are not Republicans? I happen to be a Republican and I’m not rich. If the democrats are for the poor then why are they not helping the poor? Can you answer that question? or would you rather just keep them down by sending them checks every month?

Universal health care is a joke. Why do you suppose so many people risk their lives everyday to get into this country if things are so great under socialism/communism?

You’re damn right we haven’t been attacked again since 9/11 because of Bush. He was in office for 9 months when he was tested and he passed. Yes, I know that the mastermind behind 9/11 is still out there.

It’s called war and people die during war, that is not the same as a terrorist attack. Why are you always comparing the two? I’m sorry that our men & women had died overseas fighting a war but that’s what happens during war or do you think we are supposed to slap them on the wrist and say play nice. We didn’t attack Iraq, we are there to help liberate them from an Evil Dictator (which we did) and they are better because of us. It’s not pretty and I certainly don’t want any of our soldiers to die but it will happen in times of war. Now, we are going to send our troops to Afghanistan so more of our men & women will die under the direction of President-elect Barrack Obama but that’s okay right because he is “the chosen one”.

BTW I didn’t say 9/11 didn’t count. There you go reading things as you want them to say. I said, since 9/11 we have not had another attack…meaning that our country is safer under Bush than it was 7 years okay when he took office.

Again, I can see you don’t want to listen to the facts but you want to keep believing that “Your chosen one” is going to save the world.

Good grief, when will you learn? Maybe when you are standing in line at the welfare office waiting on your check.

    26. Jamie on November 26th, 2008 4:30 pm

Scott…dumbass…you don’t know a thing about Constitutional Law. You’d better bone up before you comment on things you don’t have a clue about.
The position is not newly created and as far as the salary issue is concerned, under the law, Congress can simply reduce the salary to allow for the appointment. I realize that this is way over your head and I’m not about to teach you Constitutional Law, so I suggest you do some research. You’re just plain wrong.

By the way, you better get used to people talking crap about Palin…she’s a moron…but, then again, since you identify with her, how would you be able to see that? You are too transparent…spending hours on here defending yourself. Get some self-confidence. You don’t even know these people. Why get so nasty? It’s a message board. LOL! Nobody takes this crap seriously.

And Rusty, I was quoting Palin with the “Ya” comment. Or couldn’t ya figure that out?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? He passed? That is the most ignorant things I’ve ever read. Bush has done ANYTHING about the attack on 9/11. Nothing…zero…zip…zilch. All that idiot has done is make is cronies richer by invading Iraq. Since you admit that the mastermind is still out there, what is it you think Bush did that “passed”? Oh yes, great president Bush sent more than 4,000 American men and women to their death for OIL!!!

    28. da_wench on November 26th, 2008 4:54 pm

Let me see if I can explain this to you as you seem to be missing the point here. When Obama taxes the 5% of the population to try and help those that don’t work and don’t pay any income taxes then there will be a lot more people on welfare because there will not be jobs. No where in my post did I say that everybody that voted for Obama was on welfare. Comprehend what I’m saying here. Spreading the wealth is b.s. it will only cause more recession & push us into a depression. I don’t know why all you liberals want to try to twist things around. I never said that. Also, since we are on the subject, if you will do some research you will see that the majority of the people that voted for Obama don’t have a clue what his policies are or even what this change is that he has promised. No, I am not a snob, you just don’t like to hear the truth.

No, I’m not kidding, he did pass. Again, you are not comprehending what I’m writing. He passed as in we have never been attacked again. You want to explain to me how us going to war with Iraq has made his cronies rich? What cronies would that be? Do you have any idea what you are saying? IT IS NOT ABOUT OIL. You guys really need to come up with a better excuse than that. We went to war because Colin Powell among others said that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction it doesn’t have anything to do with oil. Can you explain to me where all this abundance of oil WE have if it was about oil. That is the most ignorant thing I have heard.

He didn’t send men & women to their death for oil. He sent them to Iraq to liberate the Iraqi people and to do capture Saddam Hussein and remove him from power to free the Iraqi’s from that mad-man. How do you get it was about oil? Do you just make this stuff up? It was not his intention to send anybody to their death but these things happen in war. Besides, since when does the President act alone? Don’t for one minute think that he made this decision all by himself.

You still think that Obama won by a landslide when in fact it was closer than you care to admit but whatever dude just keep sipping your kool-aide and wearing your Obama glasses. You guys will see.

i think you are the one gulping down the kool-aid.
Obama did actually win with a big margin.
and winning in traditional red states like Indiana, North-Carolina and Virginia.

but i do hope Palin is going to run for President in 2012. :)
the Republican Leadership is trying to ridicule and scapegoat her now frantically.
but the genie is out of the bottle already.
Palin has tasted fame and popularity.
she is going to want that again.
but only the ignorant, science-hating, know-nothing s get energized by her.

reasonable Republicans are fleeing the party in droves. or are desperatly seeking a way to shut Palin up and reform their party.

great to see how that party dug a hole for themselves. :D
but i am sure a more respectable, intelligent party will come out of out.
but that is going to take a decade or so.

The Bush administration agreed in April of 2001 that “Iraq remains a destabilizing influence to the flow of oil to international markets from the Middle East” and because this was an unacceptable risk to the US, military intervention was necessary. Military intervention was thought to be necessary FIVE months before 9/11. Doesn’t that concern you? The decision for military action had nothing to do with 9/11, the war on terrorism, the UN weapons inspections, weapons of mass destruction, Iraqi human rights, or any of the other excuses you and the Bush administration would like Americans to believe are the true motives for the war. The only people benefiting from the war on Iraq are the elite wealthy construction and oil profiteers who financed Bush’s election campaigns, and people like Bush who have huge personal investments in the oil and energy industry. Google Haliburton and Dick Cheney. This is not fiction.
Halliburton (formerly run by Dick Cheney, i.e. Bush marionette) was awarded a contract by the government to operate in post-war Iraq. Doesn’t that make you go “Hmmm”? The Wall Street Journal suggested the contracts could be worth as much as $900 million. Haliburton has a history of government contracts and is a “leading beneficiary” of the war on Iraq. Dick Cheney has and will receive huge financial rewards for the war through his longstanding investments in Haliburton. Look it up, if you have the courage and interest in the truth.

Are you aware that Iraq is the second largest source of oil in the world? The majority of subterranean oil reserves haven’t even been tapped. After the war, when the oil corporations have developed the oil industry’s potential, Iraq is expected to become the largest single supply of oil on Earth. Who is going to profit from that? The Iraqis? I think not. The new oilfields could produce up to 8 million barrels a day within a few years. The world’s largest oil corporations are lining-up to exploit what could be the world’s greatest supply of oil, and our government has ensured that companies owned and heavily invested in by the most privileged Americans are first in line.

Our government supports terrorists and dangerous regimes when it suits them. America profits from selling weapons and then profits by charging interest on the loans which allowed the weapons to be purchased! American weapons are sold to dangerous regimes, and to both sides in some conflicts. Our government supported Iraq, now they want to disarm it, but while some people make money, unfortunately thousands of American servicemen and women have and will die during both processes.
I didn’t pull this info out of my arse. Do some research before you accuse someone making stuff up.

Yeah…I see…We are going to have all the oil we will ever need and it’s going to be free right?

There is no reason why we shouldn’t be drilling for oil here in America and then we will not have to be dependent on the Iraq’s for oil since you seem to think that’s all this whole war is about. I’ve been hearing this same argument from liberals over & over again and yet I still don’t see us with all this so called oil.

Let’s just pretend for a minute that you might be correct. What do you suggest we do about getting oil then? Do you really think that they are just going to say “sure, come on over and get all you want?” All the bleeding heart liberals, and tree huggers don’t want to drill for oil so where do you suggest we get it?

I never said I agreed with going to war but I also don’t think that is a reason to hate the President and call him stupid and bash him for 8 years over a stupid war when there are more important things to be concerned about like “SOCIALISM” and liars that pal around with terrorists and hypocrits and a President-Elect that will not even show proof that he is a “natural born citizen” and what the hell this change is that we are to believe in.

So I’m supposed to put my faith in a man who lies and deceives the American public before he even takes office? I’m supposed to support a man who is Anti-American?

      I DON’T THINK SO

Until Obama proves he is trust-worthy, I will continue to say “he’s not qualified to be POTUS.

The man is hiding something or he’s trying to divide this country even more by not obeying a direct order from the courts to present a true Birth Certificate.

Also, you may be okay with the idea of “spreading the wealth” but I’m not. I don’t agree with the government telling me how to spend my money. I don’t agree with the hard-working people of this Country supporting lazy ass people who don’t want to work.

I believe people should work for what they have and stop depending on the government or anybody else to take care of them for the rest of their lives. I don’t have a problem helping people who might be down on their luck and I realize the economy sucks right now but I sure as hell can’t afford to take care of all these people but to have people mooching off the government because they don’t want to work or they think they deserve it is a crock.
