McCain Finally Brings a Gun to a Gun Fight and Hammers Obama on Character, Honesty and Blasts Barack & Democrats for Fannie Mae Failure

The Obama, Democrat lie has gone on far too long regarding the financial failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and who was to blame. How could McCain be to blame when he was calling for regulations and oversight as Democrats blocked his efforts?

FINALLY, FINALLY THE MAVERICK EMERGES … John McCain finally takes the gloves off and tomorrow nights Presidential debate in Nashville, TN stands to be a battle royal. As Wake Up America says, Its about Damn time.  Michelle Malkins echos, “Maybe McCain does want to win: He finally attacks Obama on Fannie/Freddie”. A word of wisdom to the McCain campaign … don’t stop the fight until the fight is done.

Read the following remarks from McCain’s campaign stop in Albuquerque, NM. McCain blasts Obama and sets the record straight on the failing of Fannie Mae. Maybe Americans would be interested in what really happened and why it failed.

Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed. But the truth is I was the one who called at the time for tighter restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place.

Senator Obama was silent on the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. As recently as September of last year he said that subprime loans had been, quote, “a good idea.” Well, Senator Obama, that “good idea” has now plunged this country into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

SOME STRAIGHT TALK FROM JOHN MCCAIN

My opponents touchiness every time he is questioned about his record should make us only more concerned. For a guys who has already authored two memoirs, he is not exactly an open book. It’s as if some how the usual rules don’t apply, and where other candidates have to explain themselves and their records, Senator Obama seems to think he’s above all that … All the people want to know is what has this man ever actually accomplished in government?

John McCain had promised to take the gloves off and it appears as thought he has finally done it. As stated at Hot Air, McCain will deliver remarks today where he blasts Democrats, including Barack Obama, for their market manipulations and defense of Fannie Mae against regulator warnings. It is about time that McCain correct Obama’s misrepresentations that the present financial crisis was one of deregulation. Make no mistake about it and who opposed regulations and oversight on Fannie Mae,  (video). The record shows that Democrats like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Gregory Meeks, Lacy Gray, and others opposed the regulators.

To hear him talk now, you’d think he’d always opposed the dangerous practices at these institutions. But there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he did. He was surely familiar with the people who were creating this problem. The executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have advised him, and he has taken their money for his campaign. He has received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senator in history, with the exception of the chairman of the committee overseeing them.

I will be a first time voter this year as I just became a naturalized citizen. As a former Hillary Clinton supporter, I got disgusted with her negative attacks and nasty campaign during the primaries. After getting to know Obama through debates, I was amazed with his intelligence and his very civilized campaign. I became an Obama supporter, although I could not vote. The little experience is not a negative aspect for me at all as I believe he knows the issues well and he is brilliant. McCain has experience but for what? For making bad judgements, for going to Iraq for oil causing so many American soldiers and hundreds or thousands of Iraqi women and children to die. All those years of experience means nothing to me with this kind of politics. It’s a waste and he hasn’t learned much from it.

McCain and his incompetent VP choice have been running a very nasty campaign. Just for the sake of winning. They dream, because Obama will win this election. Plus, I do not believe McCain knows foreign policy well. He has made some major mistakes; i.e. he could not tell the difference between the sunnis and shiites. I really do not think he has any clue about the culture or the people in Iraq.

He is 72 years old and I cannot put my future in this country in the hand of a 72 year old who has had cancer numerous times. Especially now after his VP choice. His VP candidate selection showed us how selfish he is. This woman has no clue about anything. Regular people know more than she does! She keeps blaming the media, but no one in the right mind will believe what she’s trying to pull after seeing her interviews. For those brainwashed people who keep praising her, I feel sorry for you for not being able to see the truth and the reality…..
      __________
SM: Oh yea, little experience does not mean much. That’s why we hire CEO’s without college degree’s or just out of college.

Civil, LOL, wake up dude and put the Kool-Aide down. Funny how experience did seem to matter when Obama, Biden and the Democrats attacked Sarah Palin who was the VP on the Rep. ticket. However, when it comes to the chosen one, he has special rules.

Don’t ask for things, they might come true. Experience, character and the company one keeps does matter, because in the end … that’s all one has.

All you have to ask yourself is: am I satisfied with the Republicans in power for the last eight years.
      If so: vote Republican.
      If not: vote Democrat.
      ___________
SM: And if you have been satisfied with the Democratically controlled House and Senate then vote them out as well. I will remind everyone that Congress has a lower approval rating than GWB.

Also, if any one thinks that change is that simple … I have a bridge and some swamp land to sell you.

Do not be BS’d by false promises and if you think that socialism and higher taxes are the answer … wait til you see what happens to our economy. We have seen snake oil salesmen for centuries.

Folks you do not raise taxes into the teeth of a recession, the result is a Depression. BTW, 90% of tax payers cannot receive tax breaks under Obama’s plan as only 50-60% of people actually pay taxes. So if you want to supplement other people’s income with a rebate check with your hard earned $’s … vote for Obama.

Victor and Jordan: Of course you have the right like every other American citizen to cast your vote as you wish.

However, some of the questions I believe should be involved are:
      1. Does the candidate tell the truth? If not, you may love what he/she says, but you can’t trust a word of it. Change for the sake of change itself can be very dangerous. Yes, Obama will indeed change the country – but if we’d all wanted to be Socialist Marxists, we could move to Cuba or Venezuela. The US will not be the same country our forefathers fought and died for if Obama gets to make his true changes.

      2. What judgment has the candidate shown in their past? To me, Obama’s relationships with Ayers, Wright, Johnson, Raines and many others tells volumes about who this man really is.

      3. Every human being makes mistakes, but does the candidate learn from and admit his mistakes. Obama stays in denial mode. He didn’t hear Rev. Wright though he sat in his pews of 20 years, He didn’t know Ayers was a domestic terrorist – come on, anyone in 8th grade knows. He threw Johnson under the bus but drug him out again when he needed more advice.

      4. Does the man show honor to his country? Admittedly, after being called out on it, Obama has changed his rhetoric about the USA, but many of his past actions show that he wants to change America into a different country – a socialistic country.

Is McCain perfect? Absolutely not. There are many things I’d change about McCain if I could; but it gets right down to the brass tacks – one of these men is going to be President of the USA. I want the one who has the most experience, lies the least and understands and admits his mistakes so that he won’t make them again.

Age should NOT be a factor. McCain is healthy. Anyone, regardless of their age, who can run a Presidential campaign, has the stamina to be President for 4 years. Besides, my vote for McCain is only because I think Palin is a breath of fresh air; she’s one of us and knows what it’s like to work hard and put food on the table for a family.

3 Victor…. do you approve and like the fact that O’Bama sat under a pastor who mentored him and is God father to one of his childrren for 20 years and preached Anti-American beliefs along with being a racist against the white people of America.

O’Bama left his church when he realized that being associated with such a anti american would cost him his run for presidency. He drank in all that Wright preached…and agreed with his doctrine and political stand otherwise he would have seen how evil Wright was and would have left the church.

Same thing for his association with the bomber Ayers… him and his wife working and raising money to go to radical rebellious groups to teach children to rebell against their parents and society. Money not to educate them academically. It is all coming out now and O’Bama cannot hide or dress up his sins.

Democrats cannot afford to vote for O’Bama just because he is registered as a democrat! Wake up!

Hey #3 Ayfit…. Guess what…the Congress has a lower rating than George Bush and the Senate House so stop with the one stop shopping blame card!

O’Bama is scary… his family roots on his fathers side are muslim and now knowing that for 20 years he went to a church that preached Anti-American doctrine, he is very scary…

    7. Richard on October 7th, 2008 9:32 am

I hope that John McCain comes out swinging tonight. The state of the economy is the most worrisome thing right now … and traditionally, that tends to benefit Democratic candidates.

I’m not saying that it SHOULD … as has been pointed out, it’s the top Democrats in Congress who impeded necessary reforms and who benefited the most from campaign contributions from the financial powers that be.

That’s the prevailing spirit in Congress … pass out the federal pork, win allies and garner votes … and that’s what we need to change by cutting down the government’s power to spend.

However, the average voter has come to accept the idea that the Democrats are more concerned about him than are the Republicans. Consequently, many recent polls show that McCain is slipping.

I think, though, that if he can drive home the idea that the Democrats’ philosophy … bigger government is always better government, more government spending is always right … that he can still pull it off.

Let’s have some straight talk about what bringing up this latest smear/fear tactic about Ayers really is: an attempt to play into the fears of voters that Obama might really be ‘not one of us’ – that instead of being the reasonable, intelligent, self-made man and public servant he has presented himself as, he is somehow a radical black Muslim who wants to take over America, institute Marxism, take away your guns and teach your children to hate America. He looks different than you, so he is ‘not one of you.’

The McCain campaign just doesn’t like the fact that regular folks increasingly see Obama as a reasonable, likable, intelligent candidate. So the campaign – trailing and falling further behind – has to pull out last stops to try and demonize Obama, assisted by movement conservatives (represented above).

We’re in an economic crisis. Regular folks are worried about this economic mess, a mess which is by the day less and less abstract. A mess that John McCain has been all over the board ‘handling’ and has some historical baggage that doesn’t generate confidence this time around.

A mess that shows how ridiculous, petty and desperate this whole Ayers blow-up is.

But, hey, that’s all they got left.

VICTOR: the nastiest people i have ever seen are by far the democrats. not once has Sarah Palin said anything about barry’s family, but has been attacked personally and her family has also been brutally attacked by the democrats.
to sugggest that Todd Palin had sex with his daughter is the most disgusting, stupid, ignorant, cowardly back jumping tactic. i have been neither democrat nor republican, but this year i vote republican.
i will never have to say that i was one who helped put a person in office that hates America or has had ties with haters such as wright, and bill ayers, not to mention tony rezko who is now in prison.
didn’t barry have a picture made with rezko arm in arm?
your presidential choice is directly one of those responsible for the housing crisis.
go ahead and vote for barry , i will cling to my bible and my guns. we will probably need them !

Obama and his sheep live a double standard when it comes to questioning a candidate.

yoyo- make you stay in line little sheep. we wouldn’t want you to miss your turn at the slaughterhouse.

You are just like every embecile out there voting for Obama, because he is a democrat and not a republican; points straight to the type of Americans Obama is targeting: the dumb ones who vote by party line and not who is the best candidate!

Two things that address the dumbing down Obama is using to attract votes:

      1. Vote strictly on party line.
      2. McCain = Bush (which is so far from the truth it aint funny).

BTW, yoyo – even the liberal organization CNN has said the terrorist Obama has been lying about his relationship with Ayers!

      boy oh boy….

LAS VEGAS — Nevada state authorities are raiding the Las Vegas headquarters of an organization that works to get low-income people to vote.

A Nevada secretary of state’s office spokesman said Tuesday that investigators are looking for evidence of voter fraud at the office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

No one was at the ACORN office when state agents arrived with a search warrant and began carting records and documents away.

Secretary of State spokesman Bob Walsh says ACORN is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names.

The raid comes two months after state and federal authorities formed a task force to pursue election-fraud allegations in Nevada.

Obama’s community organization at it again, this is most likely happening ACROSS the United States, voter fraud tied to the group Obama got his feet wet with, the group he lawyered and the group he helped fund while in the Senate to pressure banks into providing sub-prime loans which the MIDDLE CLASS in America is paying for…

No need to add anything to my simple comment SM.
      The question is very simple:

All you have to ask yourself is: am I satisfied with the Republicans in power for the last eight years.
      If so: vote Republican.
      If not: vote Democrat.

It’s not about who said what, did he look him into the eye or not, did she fire a trooper or not: all bullshit. Keep it real. If you think it’s time for change: vote Obama. If you’re cool with the current administration: vote Palin.

BTW The Democratic mayority in Congress was established two years ago.
Iraq, Katrina well done, Patriot Act, Kyoto, Abu Graib, Guantanamo, the economic meltdown, Enron, the commutation of Lewis Libby, the alleged declassification for political purposes, the politicization of the United States attorney offices, the Al Qaida Bullshit, the expanded executive powers, the oilprice – the Bush legacy for short, was established under a Republican Congress.

One more thing about the alleged ‘socialism’ Obama stands for. Every single country in Europe has socialized healthcare. Every European is insured for healthcare. Does that make the UK a socialist state? Germany? Italy? France?

      Just released News:
Nevada state authorities seized records and computers Tuesday from the Las Vegas office of an organization that tries to get low-income people registered to vote, after fielding complaints of voter fraud.

Bob Walsh, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state’s office, told FOXNews.com the raid was prompted by ongoing complaints about “erroneous” registration information being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

The group was submitting the information through a voter sign-up drive known as Project Vote.

“Some of them used nonexistent names, some of them used false addresses and some of them were duplicates of previously filed applications,” Walsh said, describing the complaints, which largely came from the registrar in Clark County, Nev. He said some registrations used the names of Dallas Cowboys football players.

Walsh said agents from both the secretary of state’s office and Nevada attorney general’s office conducted the raid, and “took a bunch of stuff.”

ACORN spokesman Charles Jackson confirmed the group’s Nevada office was raided.

It’s not the first time ACORN’s been under investigation for irregularities in registration records.

In 2006, ACORN committed what Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed called the “worse case of election fraud” in the state’s history.

In the case, ACORN submitted just over 1,800 new voter registration forms, and all but six of the 1,800 names were fake.

    19. Sharon Chicago on October 7th, 2008 1:43 pm

    20. Sharon Chicago on October 7th, 2008 1:59 pm

The question for voters should be to make Senator Obama explain HIS policies. His referring to his web page for a more explicit explanation is tantamount to saying, “Here. Ask my advisers to explain it because I really don’t know!”

Voters should insist that Obama explain his entire history — the divergence between what he writes in a book and says on the stump. He should explain why he wrote a frontpiece for Ayers’ book. He should explain why he took so long to repudiate Pastor Wright and his hate-America theology. Obama should explain why he feels free to criticize some of us for “clinging to our guns” when he faces a different, “elite” audience.

No one knows who the senator from Illinois truly is because the media fails to look into stories that are counter to the Obama mystique. And, the lack of a free and unbiased press is the problem. Even today, the Drudge is reporting that Corsi, a reporter who has written about Obama before, is being detained in Kenya because Corsi’s next release is not favorable to Obama! What kind of world is this?

Senator McCain is a known quantity. Senator Obama is not. If the media did its job, maybe these questions would be answered because, right now, no one knows who the Democratic nominee is.

    21. Richard on October 7th, 2008 2:58 pm

ACORN has been investigated on previous occasions for fraud as well.

There they go again … trying the same old trick of saying “McCain is Bush duplicated.” Gets a bit wearisome to hear it all the time, but we do have freedom of speech, so rant on ….

Let me offer a rival idea:

If you want more of the same failed welfare state, vote Obama.
If you want someone who will at least try to shake things up, vote McCain.

      How’s that?

The Fed this morning said that it was going to buy “massive” amounts of short-term corporate paper … meaning MORE money not included in the original bailout … and the market rose.

      For a while.

I believe that the Dow dropped 500 points or so, losing 5.1%. The more volatile Nasdaq lost 8.1%.

So what’s the next big-spending technique?

Something I’m concerned about: if we think back to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, I believe that they had the power to issue their own debt.

They were two quasi-independent agencies. Nobody knew … apparently nobody even had asked … if their debt was endangered, would the government come to their rescue or not?

      It did.

Now, how many more such entities are out there?

The government budget process … the budget itself … the GOVERNMENT itself … is out of control.

Who’s more likely to change things dramatically, Obama or McCain?

      Vote accordingly.

    22. Just FYI on October 7th, 2008 4:56 pm

A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine that America can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves.

      Pause a moment, reflect back.

These events are actual events from history..

      They really happened!!!

      Do you remember?

      1. 1968 Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by a Muslim male extremist.

      2. In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnaped and massacred by Muslim male extremists.

      3. In 1979, the US embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim male extremists.

      4. During the 1980′s a number of Americans were kidnaped in Lebanon by Muslim male extremists.

      5. In 1983, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by Muslim male extremists.

      6. In 1985 the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70 year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair by Muslim ma le extremists.

      7. In 1985 TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens , and a US Navy diver was murdered by Muslim male extremists. ( remember the pilot of this flight was from Richmond, MO)

      8. In 1988 , Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by Muslim male extremists.

      9. In 1993 the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by Muslim male extremists.

      10. In 1998, the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by Muslim male extremists.

      11. On 9 /11/01, fo ur airliners were hijacked; two were used as missiles to take down the World Trade Centers and of the remaining two, one crashed into the US Pentagon and the other was diverted and crashed by the passengers. Thousands of people were killed by Muslim male extremists.

      12. In 2002 the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against Muslim male extremists.

      13. In 2002 reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnaped and murdered by– you guessed it– Muslim male extremists.

No, I really don’t see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people… Absolutely No Profiling!

They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President’s security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

According to The Book of Revelations:

The Anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40′s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal….the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, he will destroy everything.

      And Now:
For the award winning Act of Stupidity Of all times the People of America want to elect, to the most Powerful position on the face of the Planet — The Presidency of the United states of America .. A Male of Muslim descent who is the most extremely liberal Senator in Congress (in other words an extremist) and in his 40′s.

Have the American People completely lost their Minds, or just their Power of Reason ???

I’m sorry but I refuse to take a chance on the ‘unknown’ candidate Obama…

Let’s send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds and other stupid attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel ashamed of themselves — if they have any such sense.

As the writer of the award winning story ‘Forest Gump’ so aptly put it,

      ‘Stupid Is As Stupid Does’

Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or media outlet…do it!

And today it was announced that Iran forced a Western plane to land before letting it proceed.

I believe the plane was flying over Iranian territory, but this is clearly a provocation….

    24. Richard on October 7th, 2008 5:49 pm

And the band played on ….

One analyst said today that in the last 14 months, $2 trillion in retirement funds has been lost … that’s nearly 20 percent of all money in retirement funds.

Think of it: $2 trillion just gone into the atmosphere, or wherever it goes.

And earnings season got off to a rocky start today … Alcoa traditionally is the first major company to announce its earnings. Here’s the lead from an AP story:

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Alcoa Inc., one of the world’s largest aluminum producers, on Tuesday reported a 52-percent drop in third quarter profit and said it would conserve cash by suspending its stock buyback program and all non-critical capital projects.

And the band played on (that’s a line from an old song)….

Today I called the offices of the two senators for my state and the area’s congressman. My question: one issue with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was that they could issue autonomous debt, that is, without having to get congressional approval.

They were regarded as quasi-public entities.

Never, ever, did anyone resolve whether the government would step in and support them if they went bust. Until it happened.

So my question: how many other federal agencies have the power to issue their own debt? How many other potential time bombs are out there?

Almost exactly the same answer came back from each of the three offices:

“Hey, that’s a really good question. I don’t know who you’d talk to about that. I don’t know the answer, and I don’t know where you’d get it.”

      Does this bolster confidence?

I think tomorrow I’ll call the Office of Management and Budget.

Don’t you think the American people ought to know this … because if our government is going to support them, then the figure that we THINK is the national debt is NOWHERE NEAR THE TOTAL.

What a beachball Sen McCain was given that would have set the pace for him to be a real leader in terms of the economy…and he drops it.

Oh well, guess he gotta duck and hide behind ayers and Rev wright. What a gaffe he made.

What McCain should have said re “bailout”:

“My fellow Americans, I cannot in good conscience and will not sign this bill that give a pass without punitive measures to those who may be found criminally responsible for this act of financial treason to our country and gives pork to Rum companies and toy companies and God knows what else. We can and we must go back to the table and cut the pork, STARTING NOW! Sen Obama does not want to do it but I do, we do and we will set this economy right the proper way”

      What Sen McCain probably said:

“Where do I sign this thing?”

OK children listen up, Obama with the help of the liberal press and a lot of young idiots will probably go in,,,,so, buy many guns and many bullets as the great P. Villa would say, cause you are going to need them. This slick talking half white half black does not have a clue, McCain seems to not have a grasp either however he is the lesser of the 2 evils. Why do I know and where does an old guy get this knowledge,,,is experience and living a long life. The USA will not implode, just become a more dangerous nation. My father blindly served his country in the Wehrmacht, the more they lie, the more you believe and in the end it is a big mess………. Obama is a liar.

If I say I am going to walk to the store today and do just that…you will see if I will do, what I say.

If I say it again and do what I said the second time….you will believe what I say a little more. If this keeps up and I do what I say every time, you will believe I will do what I say every time…and you will believe I will do whatever I say.

In other words I build trust.

Obama has not done this at all. Just saying it means nothing. quote “Just words just speeches”

He said he could not disown rev. Wright…..BUT he DID….He acts like he did not know about Ayers….But he does

If a man or woman was a cold blooded murder when I was 8 years old and I became friends with them when I turned 30….and the murder did not pay for the crime or was unrepented and wish they could have KILLED more people. Well that means I except them the way they are…that lets people know what kind of morals I have and that I might be a killer too.

This man Obama will bring us down, and all because he lies so good to make you feel good all over by promises he will not keep because he has no track record that says otherwise.

Last, but not least—@ VICTOR #1….SO! Being a former Hillary supporter ( and I have consistently maintained HRC could have done an excellent job if chosen for the ticket)—how do you feel about the HUGE SLAP IN THE FACE THE CHOSEN ONE GAVE HER by not chosing her????????

Barrack Obama refused to let anyone rain on his parade. He didn’t want to deal with Hillary or Bill. Ok. Fine. Biden has lots of experience. OK FINE !!!!!!!!! YOU KNOW WHY??? Because Obama does not have much EXPERIENCE AT ALL ……sooooo! Doesn’t that make you a little nervous.

I suggest you carefully read many of the posts on this board. Don’t call the majority of us Monkeys “biased” or any other label you want to attach. EDUCATE yourself with the FACTS. The documented FACTS. You have 4 weeks to catch up to speed. If you truly put some effort into it–the results will be startling. Everyone is impressed with Obama’s intelligence, some of his ideas, and of course—he is an excellent Orator.

These are not things that makes one qualified to be our next Commander in Chief. You really have to stop looking at this election through those rose colored glasses. STICK TO THE FACTS! They do not lie. Obama is:

OBAMA IS AN EMPTY SUIT, Victor.

Ask yourself—what about his CHARACTER AND EXPERIENCE? HIS VALUES?? Stop being seduced by his wonderful ability to speak so eloquently and take a good, cold, hard look Victor.

Heres some facts for you new girl:

      That New Time Religion
John McCain grew up Episcopalian. He went to an Episcopalian high school. For at least 15 years, he has been listed as an Episcopalian in authoritative directories such as the Almanac of American Politics and Congressional Quarterly’s Politics in America 2008. He told a reporter from McClatchy News Service in June 2007 that he was an Episcopalian.
Suddenly, in September 2007, he’s campaigning in South Carolina, the heavily Baptist state where George W. Bush barely managed to stop McCain’s presidential campaign 8 years ago. And guess what? McCain tells a reporter “By the way, I’m not Episcopalian. I’m Baptist.”

When pressed, he said he’s attended the North Phoenix Baptist Church in Arizona for more than 15 years, though he has never been baptized in that church. Now see, that’s exactly the problem. Baptism is kind of a big thing in the Baptist Church. (That’s how they got the name.) No baptism, not Baptist.

Anyway, details aside, this is one very clear indication of how McCain has changed. Now, he’s just another hungry politician, happy to pander if it helps him win. Which eliminates the very reason people were excited about him in 2000 — his honesty.
      ***********

      Mafia ties:
In 1995, McCain sent birthday regards, and regrets for not attending, to Joseph “Joe Bananas” Bonano, the head of the New York Bonano crime family, who had retired to Arizona. Another politician to send regrets was Governor Fife Symington, who has since been kicked out of office and convicted of 7 felonies relating to fraud and extortion.
      ***********

Founding Member of the Keating Five
Back in the old days, defendants in famous trials got numbers — the Chicago Eight, the Gang of Four, the Dave Clark Five, the Daytona 500. McCain was one of the “Keating Five,” congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.
Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)

Though he was not convicted of anything, McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating’s airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating’s luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain’s wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a “sweetheart deal.”

Now that Hillary Clinton has at last formally withdrawn from the race for the White House, the eyes of America and the world will focus on Barack Obama and his Republican rival Senator John McCain.

While Obama will surely press his credentials as the embodiment of the American dream – a handsome, charismatic young black man who was raised on food stamps by a single mother and who represents his country’s future – McCain will present himself as a selfless, principled war hero whose campaign represents not so much a battle for the presidency of the United States, but a crusade to rescue the nation’s tarnished reputation.

Forgotten woman: But despite all her problems Carol McCain says she still adores he ex-husband
McCain likes to illustrate his moral fibre by referring to his five years as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam. And to demonstrate his commitment to family values, the 71-year-old former US Navy pilot pays warm tribute to his beautiful blonde wife, Cindy, with whom he has four children.
But there is another Mrs McCain who casts a ghostly shadow over the Senator’s presidential campaign. She is seldom seen and rarely written about, despite being mother to McCain’s three eldest children.
And yet, had events turned out differently, it would be she, rather than Cindy, who would be vying to be First Lady. She is McCain’s first wife, Carol, who was a famous beauty and a successful swimwear model when they married in 1965.
She was the woman McCain dreamed of during his long incarceration and torture in Vietnam’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison and the woman who faithfully stayed at home looking after the children and waiting anxiously for news.
But when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969. Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries.
When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons
had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter.
Through sheer hard work, Carol learned to walk again. But when John McCain came home from Vietnam, she had gained a lot of weight and bore little resemblance to her old self.
Today, she stands at just 5ft4in and still walks awkwardly, with a pronounced limp. Her body is held together by screws and metal plates and, at 70, her face is worn by wrinkles that speak of decades of silent suffering.
For nearly 30 years, Carol has maintained a dignified silence about the accident, McCain and their divorce. But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later.
      >>>Who do you want to see as the next US president? Leave your views below…

Golden couple: John and Cindy McCain at a charity gala in Los Angeles
Carol insists she remains on good terms with her ex-husband, who agreed as part of their divorce settlement to pay her medical costs for life. ‘I have no bitterness,’
she says. ‘My accident is well recorded. I had 23 operations, I am five inches shorter than I used to be and I was in hospital for six months. It was just awful, but it wasn’t the reason for my divorce.
‘My marriage ended because John McCain didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to be 25. You know that happens…it just does.’
Some of McCain’s acquaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centred womaniser who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to ‘play the field’. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons.
McCain was then earning little more than £25,000 a year as a naval officer, while his new father-in-law, Jim Hensley, was a multi-millionaire who had impeccable political connections.
He first met Carol in the Fifties while he was at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. He was a privileged, but rebellious scion of one of America’s most distinguished military dynasties – his father and grandfather were both admirals.
But setting out to have a good time, the young McCain hung out with a group of young officers who called themselves the ‘Bad Bunch’.
His primary interest was women and his conquests ranged from a knife-wielding floozy nicknamed ‘Marie, the Flame of Florida’ to a tobacco heiress.
Carol fell into his fast-living world by accident. She escaped a poor upbringing in Philadelphia to become a successful model, married an Annapolis classmate of McCain’s and had two children – Douglas and Andrew – before renewing what one acquaintance calls ‘an old flirtation’ with McCain.
It seems clear she was bowled over by McCain’s attention at a time when he was becoming bored with his playboy lifestyle.
‘He was 28 and ready to settle down and he loved Carol’s children,’ recalled another Annapolis graduate, Robert Timberg, who wrote The Nightingale’s Song, a bestselling biography of McCain and four other graduates of the academy.
The couple married and McCain adopted Carol’s sons. Their daughter, Sidney, was born a year later, but domesticity was clearly beginning
to bore McCain – the couple were regarded as ‘fixtures on the party circuit’ before McCain requested combat duty in Vietnam at the end of 1966.
He was assigned as a bomber pilot on an aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin.

What follows is the stuff of the McCain legend. He was shot down over Hanoi in October 1967 on his 23rd mission over North Vietnam and was badly beaten by an angry mob when he was pulled, half-drowned from a lake.

War hero: McCain with Carol as he arrives back in the US in 1973 after his five years as a PoW in North Vietnam
Over the next five-and-a-half years in the notorious Hoa Loa Prison he was regularly tortured and mistreated.
It was in 1969 that Carol went to spend the Christmas holiday – her third without McCain – at her parents’ home. After dinner, she left to drop off some presents at a friend’s house.
It wasn’t until some hours later that she was discovered, alone and in terrible pain, next to the wreckage of her car. She had been hurled through the windscreen.
After her first series of life-saving operations, Carol was told she may never walk again, but when doctors said they would try to get word to McCain about her injuries, she refused, insisting: ‘He’s got enough problems, I don’t want to tell him.’

      H. Ross Perot, a billionaire Texas businessman, future presidential candidate and advocate of prisoners of war, paid for her medical care.
When McCain – his hair turned prematurely white and his body reduced to little more than a skeleton – was released in March 1973, he told reporters he was overjoyed to see Carol again.
But friends say privately he was ‘appalled’ by the change in her appearance. At first, though, he was kind, assuring her: ‘I don’t look so good myself. It’s fine.’
He bought her a bungalow near the sea in Florida and another former PoW helped him to build a railing so she could pull herself over the dunes to the water.
‘I thought, of course, we would live happily ever after,’ says Carol. But as a war hero, McCain was moving in ever-more elevated circles.

Through Ross Perot, he met Ronald Reagan, then Governor of California. A sympathetic Nancy Reagan took Carol under her wing.
But already the McCains’ marriage had begun to fray. ‘John started carousing and running around with women,’ said Robert Timberg.

McCain has acknowledged that he had girlfriends during this time, without going into details. Some friends blame his dissatisfaction with Carol, but others give some credence to her theory of a mid-life crisis.
He was also fiercely ambitious, but it was clear he would never become an admiral like his illustrious father and grandfather and his thoughts were turning to politics.
In 1979 – while still married to Carol – he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii. Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage.
Carol and her children were devastated. ‘It was a complete surprise,’ says Nancy Reynolds, a former Reagan aide.
‘They never displayed any difficulties between themselves. I know the Reagans were quite shocked because they loved and respected both Carol and John.’
Another friend added: ‘Carol didn’t fight him. She felt her infirmity made her an impediment to him. She justified his actions because of all he had gone through. She used to say, “He just wants to make up for lost time.”’
Indeed, to many in their circle the saddest part of the break-up was Carol’s decision to resign herself to losing a man she says she still adores.
Friends confirm she has remained friends with McCain and backed him in all his campaigns. ‘He was very generous to her in the divorce but of course he could afford to be, since he was marrying Cindy,’ one observed.
McCain transferred the Florida beach house to Carol and gave her the right to live in their jointly-owned townhouse in the Washington suburb of Alexandria. He also agreed to pay her alimony and child support.
A former neighbour says she subsequently sold up in Florida and Washington and moved in 2003 to Virginia Beach. He said: ‘My impression was that she found the new place easier to manage as she still has some difficulties walking.’
Meanwhile McCain moved to Arizona with his new bride immediately after their 1980 marriage. There, his new father-in-law gave him a job and introduced him to local businessmen and political powerbrokers who would smooth his passage to Washington via the House of Representatives and Senate.

And yet despite his popularity as a politician, there are those who won’t forget his treatment of his first wife.
Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is – deceit.
‘When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it.
‘Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.
‘This is a guy who makes such a big deal about his character. He has no character. He is a fake. If there was any character in that first marriage, it all belonged to Carol.’
One old friend of the McCains said: ‘Carol always insists she is not bitter, but I think that’s a defence mechanism. She also feels deeply in his debt because in return for her agreement to a divorce, he promised to pay for her medical care for the rest of her life.’

Carol remained resolutely loyal as McCain’s political star rose. She says she agreed to talk to The Mail on Sunday only because she wanted to publicise her support for the man who abandoned her.
Indeed, the old Mercedes that she uses to run errands displays both a disabled badge and a sticker encouraging people to vote for her ex-husband. ‘He’s a good guy,’ she assured us. ‘We are still good friends. He is the best man for president.’
But Ross Perot, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel – even by the standards of modern politics.
‘McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said.
‘After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.’

    39. Silky on October 8th, 2008 11:10 am

He should be. Obama lied through his teeth during the whole debate.
      • he sent a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury to make sure that he knew about the severity of the financial crisis
      • he warned about the danger to Georgia before Putin invaded?
      • he had the collosal nerve to bring up the recent financial industry crisis and assign blame to McCain, but he didn’t mention that it was the Dems filling thier pockets with campaign contributions while resisting all attempts to intervene in the corruption going on there.
      • Just as he lied that he never said he would negotiate without preconditions in Iran.
      • And that Kissinger supported his foreign policies, and
      • Warren Buffet supports his financial policies.
      • He pretends to praise our troops yet he voted to cut off funding for our troops in the middle of their missions.
      • He says he will lower taxes but Senator Obama voted 94 times in the U.S. Senate either for higher taxes or against tax cuts and supported increased taxes across the board.
      • Not even mentioning his lies about known associations with Wright, Ayers, Rezko, etc.

How do you debate a person who has no qualms about being a liar?

    40. JusticeforNatalee on October 8th, 2008 12:07 pm

I am a lifelong Democrat and I plan to vote for McCain.

Obama lied to the American people about his ties to William Ayers.

Do you think you could even get a job at the local Walmart if the hiring manager knew you had ties to a domestic terrorist?

I refuse to “hire” or elect Obama for the highest office, the most important job in the US.

Obama is just a smooth talker who craves power. His record proves that he delivers zero, and he hangs with the wrong people.

    41. Sharon Chicago on October 8th, 2008 2:48 pm

The McCain campaign circulated a scathing statement Wednesday from John Murtagh, who described how when he was 9 years old, “the terrorist group founded by Barack Obama’s friend William Ayers, fire bombed my house.”

The statement went on to say, “Barack Obama’s friend tried to kill my family.”

McCain and running mate Sarah Palin did not address Ayers at a joint rally Wednesday in Bethlehem, Pa., instead focusing on the economy and questioning Obama’s credentials.

“Who is the real Senator Obama?” McCain asked. “We can’t change the system with someone who’s never fought the system.”

But McCain’s wife Cindy slammed Obama for, in her words, not supporting her son when he voted against the Iraq war funding bill last year.

Obama’s vote “sent a cold chill through my body,” she said.

    42. Sharon Chicago on October 8th, 2008 2:50 pm

Hey 40 JusticeforNatalee…. I am proud of you…honestly, I would totally rather see Hilary or any other democrat in the white house other than O’Bama …. and I am a Republican!

    43. Sharon Chicago on October 8th, 2008 3:08 pm

“He’s not willing to drill for energy, but he’s sure willing to drill for votes,” Palin said, eliciting cheers of “Drill, baby, drill” from the crowd, which often interrupted the candidates during their joint appearance.

McCain’s remarks about Obama were interrupted with shouts of “socialist,” “terrorist” and “liar.” At another time, a man in the bleaches shouted “No more ACORN,” referring to a group that registers poor voters.

“We’ve all heard what he’s said. But it’s less clear what he’s done, or what he will do,” McCain said.

The crowd replied with chants, “Nobama.”

Similarly, Palin said there were too many questions about Obama’s past: “John McCain didn’t just come out of nowhere. The American people know John McCain.”

Advisers say the Republican ticket will continue this forceful tone as the campaign enters its final months. Obama leads in national and state polls; McCain is looking for a way to change that.

“Which candidate’s experience, in government and in life, makes him a more reliable leader for our country and commander in chief for our troops?” McCain said. “In short, who is ready to lead?”

McCain’s speech centered on policies that would help the working class voters in this region where the race is close. Obama lost Pennsylvania’s Democratic primary to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and has struggled to connect with the white, working-class voters he once said cling to guns and religion in times of economic uncertainty.

“What Sen. Obama says today and what he has done in the past are often two different things,” McCain said.

Citing taxes, health care and energy, McCain appealed to voters’ pocketbooks and lingering doubts about Obama.

“Who is the real Sen. Obama?” McCain said

A Democratic state representative’s son has been indicted by a grand jury in Tennessee for intentionally hacking into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s personal e-mail account.

The grand jury in Knoxville, Tenn., returned the indictment on Oct. 7, charging David C. Kernell, 20, son of state Rep. Michael Kernell of Memphis, with intentionally accessing Palin’s Yahoo e-mail account.

Click here to see the indictment.

According to the indictment, Kernell allegedly reset the account password and gained access after answering a series of security questions. He allegedly read her e-mail, made screen shots of her directory, e-mails and personal information and posted them to a public Web site on Sept. 16.

If convicted, Kernell faces up to five years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

“Obama’s vote “sent a cold chill through my body,” she said.”

Must be a side effect of percocet & vicodin. Wonder if she stole them like she did from her own charity, American Voluntary Medical Team?

Must be good to be a Senator’s wife – when you get busted by the DEA for stealing prescription drugs for years all you get is a diversion program.

    48. Kay Zee Ess on October 8th, 2008 8:38 pm

Hey, look at it this way, a vote for McCain is a vote for Palin, the REAL reformer, actually the ONLY reformer.

I await the windfall profit tax on the oil companies so we can break even.

    49. Maggie on October 8th, 2008 9:14 pm

Only difference is Cindy McCain isn’t running for any office and Obama is…and the only difference is he didn’t get caught.. Thousands of people in the USA become addicted to prescription drugs everyday… IE… Betty Ford..hence the Betty Ford Clinic.. just as many do do cigarettes, food, alcohol.. etc..

Mostly he smoked marijuana and drank alcohol, he wrote, but occasionally he would snort cocaine when he could afford it.

Speaking to Manchester high school students earlier this month, Obama said he was hardly a model student and had experimented with drugs and alcohol.

“You know, I made some bad decisions that I’ve actually written about. You know, got into drinking. I experimented with drugs,” he said. “There was a whole stretch of time that I didn’t really apply myself a lot.

ha-ha-ha or as they say in Español ja-ja-ja.

    51. yoyo muffintop on October 9th, 2008 7:48 am

Can you imagine the outrage if Michelle Obama
had stolen drugs from a non-profit medical relief organization?
There’s a hell of a lot of difference between “experimenting” and being an addict that is stealing from a charity you run to feed that addiction.

Defending someone stealing from a charity to feed their habit…no blind partisanship there. Hahaha.

      Don’t be a hypocrite Maggie – It’s really unbecoming.

    52. Alesia on October 9th, 2008 8:23 am

      I think I’ll believe the people that actually know him versus people who’ve never met him ;

In addition to the above claims, some other accusations levelled at McCain are listed after the jump:

      - After he had an affair with, and eventually married his wife, Cindy, and abandoned his first wife who was horrifically mangled in a car accident, Ronald and Nancy Reagan hated McCain’s guts.

      - McCain is just like Bush, only “George W. Bush was a much better pilot.”

      - McCain has a self-admitted Napoleon complex, and one classmate remembers him as “a mean little f**ker.”

      - He was hauled into court on a profanity charges when he launched a tirade at two women near Arlington who rebuffed his advances.

      - He crashed so many planes – one episode nearly “sparking a small international incident” and another that inadvertently but tragically took the lives of 134 of his own sailors – that McCain’s wings were stripped from him, then reinstated, numerous times.

      - McCain told his captors in Hanoi that his father was an admiral in order to receive medical attention, thus breaking the Code of Conduct for American POWs. “He also provided the name of his ship, the number of raids he had flown, his squadron number and the target of his final raid,” and signed a confession in August 1968 that he was a “black criminal” and an “air pirate.”

      - The son and grandson of four-star admirals, John McCain once was on one of his runs at McCain Field. “When ground control put him in a holding pattern, the lieutenant commander once again pulled his family’s rank. ‘Let me land,’ McCain demanded over his radio, ‘or I’ll take my field and go home!’

But Alesia, what about your terrorist loving friend O’Bama who has burned our American flag many times with his wife and has used the word
“Christian” to cover up his true Anti-American hate whites belief system that he was nurtured on by Rev Wright for 20 years. O’Bama is not
for America he lies when he says he is just to
get into the Presidential position. He is scary
and should never be allowed to even run for this office.

Your embellished stories about Cain mean nothing to me or others…. just blow’n in the wind. We are concerned about this terrist lover O’Bama.

*Rudy Giuliani once invited John McCain to New York City, and all crime instantly ceased.
*Chuck Norris is John McCain’s decoy.
*Mitt Romney’s secret of success: On day one, warn all managers: “Perform, or I’ll give you to John McCain.”
*The original pirate flag was a drawing of John McCain’s face, but it was so terrifying the crew lept overboard every time it was raised. The skull and crossbones was created as a less frightening alternative.
*Hillary Clinton’s opposition research paper on John McCain is only five words long: “If he is nominated, quit.”
*John McCain was once bitten by a cobra. It died instantly.
*Ninjas wear black so John McCain won’t see them.
*Women wear pink so he will.

*The devil went down to Georgia because John McCain was in Arizona.
*Nails think of themselves as “tough as John McCain.”
*Instead of waterboarding terror suspects, John McCain plans to stare at them until they talk.
*John Edwards brushes his hair each morning so he’ll look great in case he runs into John McCain.
*When John McCain was a baby, he dug a hole in his backyard. Today we call it the Panama Canal.
*Aircraft carriers are so big because they need to be able to carry John McCain.
*Ken Burns was going to make a film about John McCain’s life, but he realized the story was so incredible no one would believe it.

YoYo..both are illegal activities..like it or not.. you are the hypocrite if you think using marijuana, buying cocaine and using it and underage drinking aren’t illegal and crimes. I never said Cindy McCain did no wrong..you are trying to downplay it as if Obama didn’t.. Personally I could care less about either items. You brought it up.

The big drug addiction problem facing America, according to drug addiction statistics, lies not in the crack houses and shooting galleries of the inner cities, but in the doctor’s offices to which millions of Americans go in search of relief for their physical and emotional pain. Look at the number alone in Hollywood in clinics for similar things.

and btw it was Michelle Obama who said a black man can get shot going to the gas station?? So can a Japanese, Chinese, Italian, why say that?
