Poll on National Health Insurance Overseen by Federal Government Shows that 29% of Americans are Cluless

A Rasmussen poll on National Health Care showed that 29% of Americans favor such a plan overseen by the Federal Government. Actually, the only thing that this poll shows is that 29% of Americans are completely clueless when it comes to health care.

Twenty-nine percent (29%) of American adults favor a national health insurance program overseen by the Federal Government. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 39% oppose such a government-led initiative while 31% are not sure.

Actually there is already a national health care plan for Americans run by the Federal government, its called the VA. Is that the kind of health care you want for your children? However, there were many polled that believed that the quality of health care would decrease if overseen by the government. Thankfully, 46% of Americans do have a clue while 16% proved to be beyond ignorant.  As the Q and O blog states, Health Care: Restoring my faith in the intelligence of the American public, Or at least enough of it to matter:

Glad you put this article out there. I was listening to a Nationally syndicated talk show on the radio re: this issue. The host was asking for liberals to call in and explain why they were FOR nationalized health care.

One woman called in to say it would “decrease the cost of health care for all families because it would be FREE.” when the host asked her how she thought the care would be paid for (brace yourselves) her answer was “the government would pay for it.”

Yup, typical clueless individual. Sadly, that creature is going to vote…she proudly indicated HILLARY was her choice. Wanna know why? (oh, brace harder) because HIllary is a mom.

      God help us…please!!

A national health service, provided through contributions from the public is, in theory a great idea, in reality, here in the UK the national health service, although provided care from MANY dedicated carers, its still not what its cracked up to be. My father would be dead today if we hadnt went PRIVATE to get him tests done for colon cancer, we would have waited valuable months on a waiting list, time costs lives. On the other hand my son has to go for a CT scan this week, he was classed as priority we waited three weeks, I would have went private in a heart beat but he IS in good health but paying for immediate treatment has to be an option.

America is already a communist nation. Unfortunately, the blind American thinks he’s free.

#3 Bob, I think you are so right. “Don’t step here, step there only, or flop face down by a bully cop”. MOre and more there is less spontaneity allowed, criminals and bad boys have more one size fits all laws put on us. Pretty soon if one gets cool everyone must put on a coat. I have lived in rural areas my entire life and I see a infection of every political office trying to exact a few controls, pass a law if allowed by the state, if not pass a rule. Part time firefighters, burger flippers on the regular hours, stop by to threaten me as to what I must do. No badge, no training for dealing with people, just bossey, red flashing lights, is all they need. Later they panhandle for donations.

Should be a law that for any law passed, 3 must be removed from the books. Let us try enforcing laws, that would be novel. Start with enforcing treason. I see treason from liberals all the time, but never see pain associated with it.

But SM is right about that VA public health system. And the crud about it is not new. I could get into ugly tales about the VA going back to the 60′s, and also the 70′s. Pittyfull. Have waited in the building 3 days (have to drive home at night) to see a doctor. Have been stored with many others in the corridors in a hospital bed. I have been several days in sandbag hospitals and more days in Dallas VA…I absolutely prefer the sandbaggers. I have been in Dallas with a combat injury severe enough I lost over 60 pounds where a idiot physcologist tried to fix my mind. Gawd that will make one angry, so I set out to twist his mind in a knot, took me some weeks, but I turned out to be about as good at stinking up a nosey head doc as I was at pointman. Having now learned to duck. He was dumb and incompetent, had no clue what I was doing to him. And he was working on me?

Absolutely no to public health care. Not worth considering. Does any vet actually know how many times the ‘doc’ cutting and doing on them is not EVEN a doctor? I would not take my dog, which is a good dog, to public health care…think about just that alone voters. I have been incredibly fortunate in life, but if I had to go the public health care thing again…I would go ahead and shoot myself and call it a great life. Really. I did it more than once, that’s it.

I had a Special Forces friend who went in there for colon cancer. Now I trade stocks for a living and I trade biotechs also, so I realize colon cancer is bad stuff. I tried to plead with him not to go to the VA. He did, and died fast. In a public health care system, my firsthand observation was the lack of incentives. Barking nurses are one example. —Only take the less favorite grand daddy, the one good for nothing else, to public health care.

    5. Brenda on April 11th, 2008 7:20 pm

Bob, I don’t think so quite yet. Rather than communist, I’d say the far left is socialist. There is a difference. If we do not wake up, and realize freedom doesn’t mean “free” in a financial manner, it will be as you say.

    6. Scared Monkeys on April 11th, 2008 8:48 pm

To those that would be in favor of National Healthcare I would ask the following … what goes our government actually do or handle in an efficient or cost effective manner?

      The answer ,,, nothing.

Has anyone taken a look at the VA or Medicare system in this country?

    7. bob on April 11th, 2008 9:11 pm

Tuyvnsurvivor, Good points. Our constitutional rights in America have gone bye bye. Norman Rockwell’s America is long dead and gone.

Brenda, I remember reading a list years ago compiled in the 20′s. It was titled “50 things that have to happen for the US to become communist.” I recall # 47 or 48 on the list was gay marriage. I told a man from China recently that America was a communist nation. He said to me “I know. Everyone is now meeting in small groups.” Do you know what a facilitator is? Do you know that millions of American’s in all walks of life are now required to meet in facilitated small groups for brainwashing? A facilitated small group is also called a Soviet.

No more free speech. Only PC. You must always now be willing to compromise the truth for “common ground” and the “common good” (communist slogans). Unity from diversity….tolerance…

Damn Red why do you not run for public office ?
I’m my opinion what is needed in our system is men and women like yourself that #1 use common sense #2 that are not afraid to speak out on an issue in a simple plain talk so that we all can understand it .
#3 Are not intimidated into placing their own profit or well being before or above those that have chosen them to serve .
: Just makes common sense to me ”

Jerry from down on the farm in Ohio .

    9. Susan on April 12th, 2008 7:29 am

America a “COMMUNIST” country? Please, you people can’t be serious! Wanna see communism? Take a little trip to Cuba, Russia, China, North Korea, etc., etc…

Medicare is for seniors, so that leaves a lot of folks ineligible. The VA is for veterans who served this great nation to keep her free, which leaves 80 percent or more of you folks out of the picture as well. I’ve heard horror stories about the VA, so I stay away. We’ve all heard horrors about health care out in the civilian sector also.

I’m not sure what the solution is for Americans without health insurance, but I don’t believe a national health care plan is the answer. We taxpayers would have to foot the bill. Why pay for lazy people’s health care who are too damn sorry to work and support their families?

With the price of gas continuing to spiral upward, making everything else we buy go up as well, I’m not willing to pay for uninsured Americans health insurance. I’m against the plan regardless!

    10. Brenda on April 12th, 2008 7:52 am

Bob, I have never been PC. Get’s me in “trouble” sometimes too…but I do not care. IMO PC is nothing more than an infringement on my Constitutional right to free speech. I do not practice hate speech, but sadly the PC crowd doesn’t understand there is a difference. (Rev. Wright is a good example of hate speech.)

As for factions and facilitating, do the militia meetings that go on around here in the mountains of Virginia count? ;>) We here understand that the right to bear arms was not only meant to allow the common/law abiding citizen to protect themselves against those who would caused harm, but against a rouge government or invading entity. I’ll die fighting rather than become a slave to any government.

Granted, we are far down the wrong path…and what you said about the “list” in the 20′s is no doubt accurate. Remember even our founding fathers mentioned their were already people/forces in America at work who would destroy what they had offered their blood/lives to create for all who would live their lives freely and with integrity. It never fails. Those who would rule by force cannot stand to see a people able to self-rule. Besides, it is nearly impossible to overthrown/overcome a free-minded person. That brings me to the 40′s and 50′s in Hollywood where many actors were accused of being communist. Well, they certainly infiltrated the media and now we have a socialist media for all intensive purposes.

The proof that we still have many with the strength and integrity needed for self-governing would be the fact our military men and women are ALL volunteers. Agree with Irag or not…these people are willing to put their lives on the line in the face of danger while others are content to sit in front of the TV’s waiting on a welfare check their entire lives and can offer nothing to this society other than being a human drain.

Yes, about 1/2 of this country is weak in spirit and mind and cowardly. The other 1/2 is a combination of the remaining strong in spirit and those who would side with them although not strong enough to lead.

    11. Brenda on April 12th, 2008 7:55 am

Susan…we’re talking about the mindset of people who would have it that way. I lean towards it being in danger of becoming socialist. Just look at the democratic candidates if you don’t believe it.

I do not want the Federal Government in charge of my Health Care. My father was a WWII Vet and I have for the last 30 months trying to get a letter from VA stating that my mother has no VA benifits. Medicaid wants to cut off her benifits every 90 days unless I prove to them that she has no VA benifits. To prove this VA must state this in a letter that I can not get them to write. So, every 90 days VA writes a letter to Medicaid that they are working on my mothers letter that she has no VA benifits.( I am not kidding ,for 2 years and 6 months this has been going on.) My mother will die before I get this letter from VA that my mother has no VA benifits!! Does anyone want the Federal Government Health Care? HELL NO! I just read about a case where the VA took 40 years to clear up the paper work for a Vietnam VET to get his purple heart!
I have a friend in UK(England) that waited two years on a list to get his by-pass operation. I believe that our Federal Government would be much worse than this and you would die waiting as my mother will for a Damn letter from VA !!!!!!!!!!

    13. Susan on April 12th, 2008 2:36 pm

Brenda – It scares the hell out of me to look at the Democratic candidates, so please don’t make me :-( Hillary’s a selfish bitch that could care less about the American people! Osama Barack Hussein Obama is a radical muslim just waiting to take our country down!

      GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

    14. Susan on April 12th, 2008 2:39 pm

Murph – Your mother may very well be eligible for medical care at the VA due to your father’s service in the military. Make an appointment with your local VA before ruling it out.

    15. murph on April 12th, 2008 4:12 pm

#14- Susan- Thanks, but I have excellent care for my mother and even if they could help I would pass because the are just not worth the trouble. The VA people I have talked to are so incompetent that I would not want them near my mother.
This last week I read VA employee’s have charged 2.6 billion on there government credit cards and I believe many will go to jail. Now I know why they do not have time to get my mothers letter done for Medicaid because they are to busy shopping!!

    16. Patti on April 12th, 2008 6:38 pm

I used to do tax returns for Doctors,

for over 20 years and I can tell you,

they make alot of money. In fact, our

office used to do the peer reports for

      the American Dental Association, every

      year.

When you weigh that against the needs of

      people who, for whatever reason,

      cannot afford a doctor.

I steer toward the safety of our people.

There is nothing worse than seeing someone

try to fight a disease on their own…

without the care of a doctor.

      There are infections that we

don’t even have a name for,

      much less a cure.

The treatment of the sick and

      ailing is most important.

      And for that reason,

      I support Socialized Medicine.

It works in Europe, it will work here.

      As well.

I also believe in Socialized Continued Education

We invest in our future and give every mind

the opportunity to grow in whatever field

      it excels in.

      What could be better?

But, then, I am first generation American

and my values, are more that of European.

      Swiss.

      .

Irregardless of how much Politicians make…

      But, still, Doctors make more.

      .

    17. Patti on April 12th, 2008 6:47 pm

I don’t believe that the Federal Government would

be in charge of your health care. It, simply

means that Doctors would by paid by the government

for every procedure done. Each procedure would

have a cap, much like Medicare and Medicaid. The

harder they work, the more money they make… but

they are all on a fair playing field. There would

be less goudging and EVERYONE would have their

      health needs cared for.

      … I think?!?!??

    18. Patti on April 12th, 2008 6:56 pm

      The two work hand-in-hand.

The kids that excel in antonomy,

      become doctors… free.

The kids that excel in teaching others,

      become teachers… free.

And you begin to support your own society…

Becoming grown up and living a longer life.

That’s what I believe in, anyway.

      .

      The Greater Society, European Style!

      Johnson ALMOST had it right…

But he got his ideas from Kennedy.

And what a blessing he was.

Spent ALOT of money on Education

      and STILL balanced the budget.

To go to school during the

      Kennedy/Johnson era,

      was a benefit.

      # 8 Jerry,

Well at least I know I would get 1 vote. :)

The real problem with politicians today is that they do not want to solve problems that “We the People” face. They want to be elected and re-elected.

I have always said, that if we could put a man on the moon, how can we not solve health insurance issues, social security and immigration issues. The answer is that these in charge do not want to. Every side (all political parties) have their lobbyists and an agenda.

National health care is not the answer … that is a failed notion that is perpetuated by a lie. Many people do not have health care in this country for a multitude of reasons.
      1. They wish to not have it. Young people who are eligible for coverage thru jobs chose to take the chance and say no, they would rather take the $’s instead.
      2. Illegal aliens are not by law allowed health care coverage.
      3. Many do not even care to buy personal catastrophic coverages because they spend their money on more important things like plasma TV’s and other material items.

The govt is the last place in the world one ever wants their medical coverage coming from. Trust me, I have been a medical management consultant for years.
      R

    22. katablog on April 12th, 2008 10:13 pm

Patti: sorry but you need to get a clue. The government, were it paying (and that’s not the suggestion of Barack and Hillary btw), would limit which procedures could be done and for how much. Look at the number of Drs right now that refuse Medicare patients because they can’t afford to treat them.

I know first hand about socialized medicine since for 26 years I was part of the military health care system. In order to get enough and cost effective doctors the military allowed 3rd world drs (Indian, Pakistan and other countries)who had not passed USA standard tests for doctors to treat us. Some could hardly be understood and one or two I ran across were no better than witch doctors.

The military dictated what could and could not be treated and which medicines could be used. For example, as a “dependent” I was denied the only allergy medicine on the market that kept me from going into asthmatic attacks! Twice a year (April and Oct) I suffered pneumonia and asthma attacks because the military would not allow their doctors to give me the one medicine that would stop it. When I would get pneumonia, the doctors had to give me an antibiotic which had proven to be unable to treat my pneumonia for 10 days before the military would allow doctors to switch to the better antibiotic – again twice a year for about 10 years we went through the same thing over and over and over again.

Also think about the very entity that some day has to pay your social security each month also being in charge of deciding what and when you get treated. It’s called a conflict of interest since if you die, the government saves money several different ways!

    23. katablog on April 12th, 2008 10:18 pm

What Barack and Hillary do suggest is that the government will mandate that everyone has to have their brand of medical insurance. Whether you want it or not, you will have to buy it. Of course those that don’t work get it provided for free, so the working folks get to not only buy their own insurance but also pay for all those who sit on their butts.

When the govt mandates insurance, they will also mandate what is and isn’t covered – which means you will need an alternative for what isn’t covered. If doctors don’t get paid enough, they will simply get out of the business; meaning the govt will lower the standards to bring in more cheaper medical workers. Trust me – you won’t like it.

Ask the people in the UK and Canada. Why do you think so many come to America for health care? Because they can’t get it in their own countries where it’s supposedly “free”. Free comes with a very high price.

    24. bob on April 13th, 2008 1:05 am

      Susan, America is now communist.
Patti, You are a socialist. LBJ was a blessing?!? JFK WAS America’s last hope!

For those who don’t believe the US is communist, I submit these abbreviations: TQM, STW, OBE, COPS, HMO. Do you know what they are? They are proof that America is now communist

    25. Brenda on April 13th, 2008 7:33 am

Susan…I have no clue WTF you are talking about. What do you mean by that strange comment? I was simply pointing you the fact Dem candidates are socialist…not that you were.

    26. Brenda on April 13th, 2008 7:46 am

Katablog…yup, if fed gov paid the doctors, no way would the doctors not be forced to adhere to their standards (however LOW those standards may be).

I work for a Canadian-owned IT company in Virginia. Those working with me from Canada have said “if America nationalizes health care…no reason to stay because taxes here would be as bad as in Canada.” I asked about that and was told average tax on a paycheck is 45-50%.

The fact Hillary would suggest having insurance be mandatory firmly solidifies her stance as fully marxist/communist…whatever. The weak need to fall by the wayside since they won’t do for themselves. Why do they get a free ride? Should be the other way around…the STRONG and HEALTHY get perks…not the couch potato who smokes 2 packs per day, won’t work, eats nothing by takeout fastfood…and the longest walk they take is to the fridge. Then, they get diabetic and say it’s hereditary. No, the unhealthy lifestyle they learned was hereditary. I won’t budge on that one for about 80% of the cases.

I have no pity for or desire to help such a miserable lot. Sorry if that offends, but it’s called natural selection. If the government is going to teach evolotion and natural selection in our schools, and tell the children we are glorified apes… DO NOT say natural selection should not apply to us as well. The weak dying is natural selection according to mainstream…right?

    27. Susan on April 13th, 2008 7:49 am

bob – You are so full of shit! Please go live in communist North Korea, Cuba, China or any other communist country of you choice to see what living in a communist country is all about! See how much of your freedoms you lose.

      TQM – Total Quality Management

HMO – Health Management Organization (I used a HMO once and got rid of them a year later. I won’t have any organization dictating to me which doctor I can use, etc.)

I don’t have a clue what the other ACRONYMS (not abbreviations) stand for, so why don’t you enlighten me?

    28. katablog on April 13th, 2008 7:53 am

26: oh yeah, you bring up another point about Barack’s and Hillary’s brand of health care. Those who don’t live the lifestyles that they want you to live don’t get treatment. If you smoke – forget health care. If you are over weight, drink, eat twinkes or whatever they decide the rule of the day is – too bad for you.

While you may eschew smoking for good reason, it’s still the Land of the Free (until Hillary or Barack get hold of it) and it’s still a legal activity. Remember the old adage about “I did nothing when they came for my neighbor but then they came for me”. Well smoking is just the beginning of the things that will cause no health care for some.

    29. Susan on April 13th, 2008 7:58 am

Patti, You say socialism works in Sweden. Do you want to pay 70% to the gov’t? And then have them determine your rights? A pastor in Sweden was recently jailed for preaching the Bible from his pulpit. Check it out.

    36. brenda on April 15th, 2008 7:15 am

For a country to be “successful” in its Socialism, it MUST have a people willing to be controlled….a people who do not want to make their own decisions. The reason no religion is tolerated is because anyone who believes in a Higher Power puts that above the government. Socialism dictates IT IS the god of the people.

At this point, America is not ready for such…but ALL TO MANY folks would be happy to give up their freedoms in order to have their “creature comforts” such as the numerous medications they want “free” on a daily basis.

Hey, here’s an idea for those who think socialism is the way to go…move to Sweden!
