55% of Americans Oppose Government Limits on Salt … What’s Next Peanut Butter?

Are we no longer going to be able to use the phrase, “he is the salt of the earth?” Not if Obama and his over-reaching intruding government have anything to say about it.

The American public is tired of the gig government Nanny state and want government out of their private lives. So they say in the most recent Rasmussen poll where 55% of Americans oppose government limits on salt and state it’s none of the FDA’s business.

Several public health groups are urging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to set new federal standards for the amount of salt Americans eat, but most adults don’t like the idea.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 33% of Americans think the government should set limits on how much salt Americans can eat. Most adults (55%) disagree and don’t think it’s any of the FDA’s business. Another 12% are not sure.

77% of adults surveyed stated that they already monitor what they eat. However, the government reduction of an individuals salt intake goes to the larger issue … WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF THE GOVERNMENT WHAT YOU EAT!!! Is Obama and the FDA going to send the IRS out after you if you eat too much salt? Are they going to fine you and without your tax return if at your weekly, mandatory doctor visits your test results come back high for sodium. Of course you will have had to have waited in line for hours and be made to prove you have insurance or suffer the wrath of Obamacare.

Once against the Obamacare Nanny, socialism agenda is on the wrong side of the issue. Go figure.

The majority of Republicans and adults not affiliated with either major political party oppose FDA restrictions on salt, but Democrats are are almost evenly divided.

When is “big government” going to keep out of individuals private matters? Is salt the new tobacco? What is next peanut butter, spam, cereal,  _____, (fill in the blank).

I can understand the health concerns with consuming too much salt, but if I want to eat a little food with my salt, that’s no one business but mine. Yes, I did say if I want to eat a “little food” with my salt…lol! I love salt, but it doesn’t love high blood pressure, which thankfully I’ve not been diagnosed with yet :-)

The current administration has turned into a DICTATORSHIP!! Down with the EVIL OBAMA EMPIRE!!

I am a private business man. Because of new government regulation I have had to shut down one of my businesses. They make up new laws everyday and do not realize the consequences to hard working Americans. My main employee was the USPS. They asked me “why I stopped bulk mailing.” I tell them new laws make it almost impossible to do business. My brother in law just got laid off because of Obama’s new health care program. As a pharmaceutical rep he and 19 other are no longer needed under Obamacare.

Write this down….next will be any non FDA or USDA approved holistic item. Congress is hoping we all die before we can get our cut of SS! That is how Oabmama will say gazillions and get re-elected!

Monitor how much salt is put into food. Not the individual.

    6. brie. on April 27th, 2010 2:12 pm

This has all gone way to far…people can limit their own salt intake, anything you buy in the grocery that has salt in will tell how much sodium on the labels…What does Obama do all day but sit around and think of ways he can control…

His doctor told him to watch his cholesterol so what is the next thing he does, a video of him eating southern fried chicken and he says he never eats fried foods….liar!

I bet he eats some pretty hefty meals at the White House, even though he is skinny, he runs it off playing basketball on his court…can’t tell me the chef’s in the kitchen don’t put salt in their cooking….he’s so full of it….

He should be more concerned about Homeland Security as opposed to how much salt we eat…

What’s he going to do next, tell what we can and cannot wear…he said we need to learn to speak Spanish, what for, he said don’t take vacations to Vegas and there’s more but can’t remember it all, now it’s salt…yea right, go pound some.

    7. Michelle on April 27th, 2010 3:47 pm

I’m not a bit surprised. It is their goal to control every aspect of our lives right down to the color socks we wear.

The government is way out of control.

Hey Mr. President & your staff of loonies. Stay out of our personal lives. It is none of your business how much & what I eat.

      You suck

    8. NewGirlBoston on April 27th, 2010 5:56 pm

Wow….isn’t this a bit over-reaching? While I applaud Michelle Obama’s awareness of the alarming rate of childhood obesity/overall obesity in general in this Nation—-that will be the day I want my government telling me what to put into my body food or condiment-wise. Scary.

The First Lady is trying to reach more with awareness though—it is so true—look around—the percentage of Obese & morbidly obese in our Country is sickening. Got to give her her props for this.

    9. brie. on April 27th, 2010 6:10 pm

I think the guy is a complete lunatic and I’m sure always was….I’d like to know what he eats everyday…stop telling us what to do pig head…it’s none of damn business…he does want total control, he doesn’t care about representing We The People….he works for us but he pays no attention to that….I wonder how many times a day his head spins around…!!!!!I bet many of the people that voted for him are crying now…he’s got his Pinocchio nose stuck in everything and it’s growing…

    10. brie. on April 27th, 2010 9:04 pm

I think Michelle is trying to help people with obesity but now Obama wants the attention too. Granted we don’t know how much salt we are eating in restaurants and fast foods….how in the world is that going to get monitored…use common sense and don’t eat it….Obama is always telling people what to do but the same rules do not apply to him…

During a speech during the presidential campaign, Baraq Hussein Obama said “We can’t expect to eat all we want and set our thermostats at 68 and expect the rest of the world to say ‘OK.’” At the time I thought that I don’t give a damn what the rest of the world says. On the same occasion he said that we all need to speak a second language. (One assumes that his second language is Indonesian.) He said that one day one of our children might be a “Businessman” and do business in Brazil and he would need to speak Spanish. Guess what, Baraq, Portuguese is spoken in Brazil.

If it weren’t so serious, it would be funny. But this interloper, this usurper, thinks he will dictate every facet of our lives, from the time we get up until we go to bed, we will march to his tune. He will dictate what we eat, if we get medical care or not, if we have a job, if we have any savings, and every other aspect of our privatelives. Well, I hope the majority of Americans will recover from “Stockholm syndrome” and vote the scoundrels out, starting with Harry Reid. I fear it is our last chance to save our country as we know it.

    12. E.Rutledge on April 28th, 2010 2:40 am

Well. That is really a bit too much. Requiring informative Labeling would be my approach. Just to make it easier for people to gauge how healthy certain food is.
      __________
SM: I would agree with you on this. The government’s obligation is to provide info, it is our right to chose whether we wish to use the product or not.

    13. Michelle on April 28th, 2010 10:15 am

Yes there are plenty of obese people in this Country and yes Michelle Obama is making awareness of this issue BUT why not educate people about the issues and not mandate everyone on how much of what to eat or not eat. We are becoming a “nanny nation” and it’s sickening. Why are all of us being punished because others can’t or won’t control their eating habits? Yes, I know we are paying for the healthcare of these people but I do not need the government telling me how much salt I can eat. I have a brain and can determine for myself what I should and should not eat.

Stay out of our lives Mr. Obama.

I remember him eating his fried chicken and saying “don’t tell Michelle”. It’s do as I say not as I do. He does not eat healthy but wants to mandate what we eat. What a crock. Lead my example.

I am sick of it. I do not need anybody telling me what to eat/not eat. I’m a grown woman.

      Stay out of my life

    14. Rusty Bridges on April 28th, 2010 10:26 am

Wow, things Glen Beck has said our gov’t will do are coming true.

He is such a lunatic racist poopy face. (sarc/off)

Now relax people, nanny Barry will tell you when to eat, sleep, defacate and when you are no longer able to tote that bale you will be told when it is your turn to die.

They will let enough illegals into this country to secure a new poverty pawn to use for votes, move the current pawn to gov’t positions as job creation and at the same time cause wide spread rampant crime like in Chigago so they can declare everyday martial law to confiscate your personal protection and keep everybody in the system when you are “examined” by the IR SS for not paying your medical premiums which will be purposly too high to afford.

      Now thats an organized community!

For the record, I am all for “Daily recommended” on Salt and stuff like this limit could be used for school lunch purposes, but I don’t see any practical implementation here.

“77% of adults say they already monitor the ingredients in their food at least somewhat closely on their own”

Yeah RIGHT! The fact that 77% of the survey population say they monitor the ingredients in their food is pure fantasy. The overwhelming majority of the population can not correctly decipher a food label, let alone “follow it closely”.

    16. brie. on April 28th, 2010 1:23 pm

What measures do you take to impeach a President, also an illegal…!

    17. wolfgang on April 28th, 2010 3:27 pm

Man cannot live by bread alone, he must have peanut butter with some salt in it.

    18. CHATA on April 29th, 2010 8:54 am

Good Grief!! They need to monitor our intake of unpronouncable food additives approved for human consumption. IMO, some of these are causing obesity, not salt. We need salt and if it is cut too much, we end up with some very serious health issues. Of course, that would play into the new “managed” health care. November, hurry and get here.

    19. Scott on April 29th, 2010 2:19 pm

hey dippy flippy….I’m in that 77% and I’m glad you are the all knowing liberal arse wipe that you really are…following the typical liberal line of calling regular American folk stupid.

Care to put your welfare check up? Put your money, the little you have thanks to me, where your mouth is? Or do you want to buy your ususal case of Bud Light and carton of cigs?
