NCAA College Football and the BSC Bowl System is a JOKE!!! Money … Money … Money!!! (Update: BSC Title Game: LSU vs. Ohio St.)

CAN WE PLEASE NOW HAVE A PLAYOFF SYSTEM!!!

Division I (BSC) College football suffered their worst nightmare scenario last night. Both #1 Missouri and #2 West Virginia lost throwing the BCS Bowls and the BCS National Championship into utter turmoil. Of course the system was a joke long before last nights scenario played out, this just confirmed it. So who plays for the BCS National Championship, now what?

With the BCS and Division 1 college football, its all about the money. Nothing more, nothing less. If they actually cared who was the real #1, there would be a playoff system just like all the other NCAA sports. Instead of having college presidents and Conference officials providing excuses that it is impossible, why don’t they just put their heads together to figure out the money disbursement and keeping bowls in tact. That’s what this is really about … this is not rocket science .. JUST DO IT!

Bowl Champ. Series, View complete poll, Sun Nov 25, 2007

  • 1. Missouri
  • 2. West Virginia
  • 3. Ohio State
  • 4. Georgia
  • 5. Kansas
  • 6. Virginia Tech
  • 7. LSU
  • 8. USC
  • 9. Oklahoma
  • 10. Florida

All signs appear that Ohio St, who have seemingly backed their way into a title shot by playing no one and being a part of a Big 10 Conference that was way down this year, will play LSU, the SEC Conference Champion.

However, why should Ohio St be playing for a championship? Why are they even ranked so high when they have no body of work? Kansas can claim the same. Why is Kansas ranked higher than Oklahoma, when the Jay Hawks could not even make it to the Big 12 Title Game? The only reason why they are is because they never had to play the Sooners this season.

How is Georgia ranked #4? My apologies to Bulldog nation, however, your team could not even win the right to play in the SEC Championship game. Georgia certainly cannot be allowed in a BCS title game ahead of LSU, the actual SEC Conference champion.

Let’s face it, there are two teams that actually when all is said in down should be playing this year for the BSC title … Oklahoma Sooners vs. LSU Tigers. I do not care if these teams have 2 losses, these teams play in the two best conferences in the country. Playing cup cakes and being in an inferior conference cannot be rewarded.

UPDATE I: Ohio State new No. 1 in USA Today coaches’ poll

New USA Coaches poll,

  • 1. Ohio St
  • 2. LSU
  • 3. Oklahoma
  • 4. Georgia
  • 5. VA Tech
  • 6. USC

Ohio State, which now seems in position to play in the title game, picked up three first-place votes and 1,418 points.

A week after falling from the top spot in the poll, LSU (11-2) moved up five spots from seventh to second. The Tigers garnered 11 first-place votes and 1,418 points. LSU won the Southeastern Conference title game Saturday with a 21-14 victory over then-No. 15 Tennessee.

Oklahoma (11-2), which knocked Missouri from the top spot with a 38-17 win in the Big 12 Conference title game, rose five spots to third. The Sooners received two first-place votes and 1,331 points.

Remaining at fourth is Georgia (10-2), which already had completed its regular season.

Virginia Tech (11-2) remained fifth following its 30-16 win over then-No. 12 Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game.

Fresh off a 24-7 win over UCLA, Southern California (10-2) is up three spots to sixth.

UPDATE I: Ohio St., LSU to vie for national title

And what is the joke of this BCS game? Just like on Saturday night when #8 Oklahoma was a favorite against #1 Missouri in the Big 12 Championship game … the #2 LSU Tigers will be a favored against Ohio St. The early Vegas odds have the point spread anywhere between LSU being a 4.5 to 6 point favored.

LSU takes the second spot in BCS, will face Ohio St.

      Hawaii Rainbow Warriors #1.

      LSU is a joke.

      from late last night:

      Washington (4-9, 2-7 Pac-10) 28
      (12) Hawaii (12-0, 8-0 WAC) 35

No, LSU is not a joke actually. Although Hawaii is this years Boise St and will go to a BCS Bowl, one cannot struggle against a 4-9 team at home and be considered top 8.

Every week in the SEC, these teams bash each others brains out. The speed that the game is played at is unreal. One has to actually witness an SEC football game in person to realize just how fast the game is played.

OHIO ST is about as much as a #1 team in the country as Missouri was last night when they played OK. That’s why the #1 team was an under dog to the #8 team in the country.

The pollster, coaches included are idiots! They make these choices bases upon records, rather than who teams played, quality of wins and strength of schedule and conference.

#1 OSU will be an underdog to LSU. So if they are an underdog, how the hell are they #1???

When are these people going to learn that a soft Big Ten schedule may get you 11 wins, but it gets OHIO ST routed in a BCS Championship game by the SEC like last year

nevertheless, this isn’t figure skating, and rivalries are brutal no matter where.

The BCS has said that the quest to go undefeated makes every game matter, and history shows how difficult it is, a Hawaii team with a legitimate Heisman canditate can play with anyone, anywhere.

They may not win, but Illinois beat Ohio State and LSU hardly closed the season looking dominant.

I’m just saying Hawaii has earned, by everything college is supposed to be about, to be considered a contender for the National College Championship.

Hawaii, because of June Jones is turning out more and more NFL players. It’s truly a homegrown success story.

Oklahoma lost to COLORADO and Texas Tech let me say it again. The Big 12 turned out to be a joke. Ohio State would crush Kansas and Missouri. Both of those schools were a cinderella dream. LSU lost two games and skated by a bunch of others. Ohio State will win the National Title. Author who said it should be LSU vs Oklahoma obviously has not watched NOR does he/she know a thing about football.

Hate to disagree with ya … but Ohio St would not crush either Kansas or Missoui.

Prior to last nights debacle with #1 & #2 going down, the Buckeyes were headed to the Rose Bowl against USC. Sorry, but USC would have destroyed Ohio St.

Sorry Hokie nation, VA Tech was crushed by LSU earlier this year 48 to 7. They also lost to BC at home and had a close call with a terrible NC team. No way they can go over LSU when they have already played head up and lost.

      #4 Deetch,

I am a Rainbow Warrior fan … they are probably going to the Sugar Bowl, but no Championship game.

Auburn went undefeated a couple years back and they did nit go either. Its not about just being undefeated, you have to have a strength of schedule as well.

      R

    9. Deetch on December 2nd, 2007 8:26 pm

      R

they will never get the strength of schedule because the risk of losing to Hawaii has a much greater impact than beating Hawaii. (since they don’t have the respect)Not to mention the cost of travel.

I just think they are a great team a great story, and if they were allowed to compete for the title, it would be an interesting drama.

    10. Scared Monkeys on December 2nd, 2007 8:35 pm

      Deetch,

I agree. I love stories like Hawaii and last year Boise St. Hawaii is in a lose-lose situation. The better teams will never play them becuase there is too much downside.

I love it when the smaller mid-majors crash the BCS party. Last years Boise State/Oklahoma game was one of the greatest college football games I have ever watched.

      To all above …

The debate we are having is exactly the reason why there needs to be at least an 8 team playoff. They can keep the bowls for the rest of the other college teams.

However imagine instead these first round games instead of a subjective BCS National Chanmpionship game:

      Ohio St vs Hawaii
      LSU vs Missouri
      Oklahoma vs USC
      Georgia vs VA Tech

The Georgia Bull dogs going out to Pasadena to play the USC Trojans would be a great game.

in case anyone didn’t notice, Hawaii is no longer the ‘rainbow’ warriors. Just the warriors.
      no ‘rainbow’ in the name.

rainbow or not, they are unstoppable. The only true undefeated team. Colt Brennan is unstoppable. You will see in the Sugar Bowl. They will embarrass their opponent.

      Go Hawaii Warriors !

      Great!
We get to watch an overrated Ohio State team from a weak Big 10 conference get their asses handed to them in a National Championship game where they don’t belong.

Teams playing the best football right now – USC, Oklahoma, Georgia. imo.

Just a reminder about Hawaii, they were not this year’s Boise St because Hawaii had 6 games where they barely made it out, where Boise St completely dominated last year. Not including the bowl game, Boise St only had 3 games that were close. They dominated, but who really cares. Im glad things worked out the way they did this year because now you MUST have a playoff system because low ratings mean less money and at the rate most schools are losing money by going to a bowl game something will have to be done.

      Go Warriors!

    23. Emmett fan of just football on September 28th, 2008 11:46 am

I am just a football fan and I have no favorite team. Lets just speak the truth PLEASE. There is only one way to settled any of this. Three extra games for the top 12 teams. 6 on 6 leaves 6, 3 on 3 leaves 3 and out of those 3 teams the one with the best record and most games will wait for the winner and then we would have the championship that would make the fourth game. You all know this is amount money. The fear for these colleges is the lost of a lot and I do mean a lot of money and the pure domination of one conference every year winning the championship. Only a fan of a specific conference or team would even argue the fact that the SEC or the big 12 would no doubt stand the biggest chance of taking all of the winnings every year and this would literally financially destroy a lot of football programs especially teams like USC and their whole conference. Hollywood would not like that. This is all about the fear of conference domination and the lost of all that money from allocation, marketing and etc…… You all know the real deal. Fan of just football Peace to you all.
