Those that do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. It appears that some in the Aruban media misreported a fire exercise, ala Orson Wells and “War of the Worlds.”
“Despite the fact that in broad circles news got out that it was a fire exercise, it turned out that some media was still not informed.”
At least this time it is not being reported that there was no fire or that security guards or American tourists were responsible.

ORANJESTAD – There was a fire exercise at the Riu Hotel around noon yesterday. The fire department decided on the exercise in cooperation with the hotel. They wanted to see what the deployment is supposed to be in case of a real fire. They also wanted to see how the accessibility of the buildings is for the fire engines and the personnel. The fire exercise did cause some commotion though.
Several radio stations, like Canal Nobenta broadcasted that there was fire at the new sugar palace. Despite the fact that in broad circles news got out that it was a fire exercise, it turned out that some media was still not informed.
In order to make the fire look as real as possible, some old outside furniture of the Grand Hotel was set on fire on the upper deck of the parking garage. That caused a whole lot of smoke and this was training material for the fire department to extinguish. During the exercise, the fire department also checked the behavior of the hotel personnel in case of fire and if their effort is adequate to avoid injuries and/or casualties. An exercise at new hotels is very usual for the fire department. The exercise went well and there were no special circumstances.

This post isn’t about the fire training, but it’s about Aruba! so I hope no one minds. I wanted to put this here because this is the front page now…..
There has been a sickening spot in my stomach since this case began that comes from the way the parents of a missing loved one, namely Natalee Ann Holloway, were treated by ALE and Paulus and Joran and all the rest. They don’t get what love means and that makes me additionally sick for what may have become of Natalee by persons who don’t know what love is.
When a loved one, particularly a child, goes missing the first instinct of a parent is to get to her as quickly as possible in case there is time to save her not just from more pain but from death. As Natalee’s family did not know if Natalee was in distress they were naturally anxious to find out all they could as fast as they could and when met with BS they had no time for, Jug and Beth had no patience for the BS. Who would? As a parent, you’d kick yourself every minute for the rest of your life if you sat by and didn’t do everything you could do only to find out later that there had been time to save your loved one if you’d only acted faster and put up with less BS.
Natalee’s family tried to get answers to find their daughter as quickly as possible…but what were they met with by those who don’t know love?

Beth and Jug were accused of being pushy! PUSHY! Natalee was missing and may have needed medical help! Where does pushy play into this? A very sick concept to not love anyone who is not one of your own…and one they and Joran’s fanclub don’t understand when they don’t understand why WE care and keep this going.
They will never understand it because they are not capable of understanding love for another person who can do nothing to help you..if they could have, Natalee would be with her family and would never have been missing.

#11, dm, you’re right on target. i think natalee’s parents could and should be models for the way the parents of missing children should act. the restraint they showed was admirable under the circumstances, and i know if i had been in their shoes, i would have ended up in jail and there would be a few seriously injured or dead arubian and jvds lovers on the “happy” island. no matter how much aruba sympathizers deny it, aruba’s empathy and caring about natalee disappeared from radar as soon as it became apparent that j2k was responsible for her disappearance. the “defend the perps and aruba tourism” attitude became so pervasive and overwhelming in their every action that only the blind, deaf, and non-thinking population couldn’t have been appalled by their actions. actions speak louder than words, aruba showed us all how very little individual little tourist girls ranked with them.

#14, well, i’ve done it again. lumped all of aruba into the same basket. the love and sincerity and eagerness to help natalee and her family was apparent in most of what we saw and heard from arubian residents. beth and the rest of natalee’s family were so very grateful for the help received from individual arubians and they were very vocal in all the newscasts that i saw. i became dumbfounded when the natalee and beth bashing and “blaming the victim” garbage started showing up and i just couldn’t understand where it was coming from or why it was there at all, or why aruba seemed to jump on beth’s case when she was being so complimentary and grateful to them.
i could go on and on about this but suffice it to say that sooner or later, there will be treatises and books written about how aruba failed natalee holloway and destroyed it’s tourism and national prestige and honor by trying to keep from admitting it and some of it’s residents aren’t perfect.

There is a fine line in a cover-up for how to act and I agree that the Holloway-Twittys did about as good as you can.
You’ll recall when they really started to push the Aruban Law Enforcement about their conduct during this investigation that they were threatened with “they will just stop the investigation” if they don’t back off.
There was no investigation to begin with. We knew it. The ALE was just playing the game until it went away and didn’t like it when Beth started pointing out that they were doing nothing.
Unfortunately in the legal world attorneys will advise you to back off and not expose the corruption or else you will get no cooperation and the judges will work against you. In this case, they did it regardless.
In hindsight, by July of 2005 Beth should have been harping about it was clear there was a cover-up of massive proportions going on in Aruba rather than the JQK tact of “they are working hard and have told us answers will be forthcoming” (they lied….that’s how cover-ups work!).
It is very clear that the KLPD and ALE have no intentions of bringing Joran and Paulus to justice. Had they really wanted to, they would have retracted Karin Janssen’s letter and reversed/voided the judgement made by Paulus’ judge buddy to release Paulus from this case.
PAULUS IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE YOUR PERP. The KLPD and ALE are frauds that cannot be trusted.

And look what I found by a tourist to the island late June 2005….
OK, I’ll post the quote but first a slight intro…the tourist had a time share at La Cabanna and she wanted to stay past her allotted time. She said when you want to stay longer at La Cabanna than your timeshare time, you get put in the Villas. But when she tried to get a room there, even as there is most usually a vacancy, she could not. It seems there had been an EMERGENCY and all the rooms were full up. The emergency was a SUDDEN GROUNDING OF A CHARTER PLANE FLIGHT that had happened at an UNSPECIFIED TIME PRIOR TO JUNE 25, and the passengers were put at the Villas.
The staff at La Cabanna ‘was not sure of the status of the rooms’ at the Villas, and they still weren’t sure the next day. All this ‘unsure if they could give her a room’ at the time she was asking for it is just weird. I mean, ok so they might be unsure if they weren’t sure when the plane was going to be ready, HOWEVER, they ended up EVICTING one couple from a room so this chick could have it on June 26…so that makes no sense…if the plane was not ready then why evict someone who had been given a room while it was made ready? And if this couple was not among those of the grounded plane, then they surely must have had a check-out date, so why the ‘unsure of the room availability’?….seems all visitors except the grounded ones would have a check-out day, so there should have been SOME IDEA if there would be an open room for this lady.
They said she could have a room on June 26, but the room was not ready until late that afternoon. The staff did not have any idea what time that day the room would be available, and as I already mentioned, the couple had to be EVICTED all of a sudden….and the staff evicted them in SPANISH –which could be weird or not.
Now what’s makes this interesting to me, coupled with CC’s interest in La Cabanna, is this timeline:
Steve Croes detained: FRI. JUNE 17, 2005
Paulus gets arrested on THURS. JUNE 23rd, 2005
Both p & s get released on SUN. JUNE 26TH, 2005
So what if Natalee was put at the Villas for a while about that time Paulus was arrested on June 23 because he was not going to be able to take care of her while he was in jail? (enter possible lie about a grounded charter flight OR was that the flight Natalee was put on?) And she was moved again after Paulus got out on June 26? (perhaps on that charter flight)And what if the reason the staff was ‘unsure’ was because they had to WAIT to hear when they could rent rooms out again, as in when Paulus got free so he could take Natalee back? You never know. Strange emergency and the alleged plane was apparently not ready to take off real fast. Was there really a grounding of a charter flight that involved keeping tourists on the island several days? Or did they not want anyone in there for some other reason, like because of the comings and goings of people involved with Natalee while Paulus was in jail?
The thing about Charles Croes initially thinking to drive to La Cabana, then not doing it, makes me wonder if these Villas are often used for holding people and CC knew it or something. Anyhow…the quote:

I still can’t get the Vantaha phone card to work at LaCabana. I am quite sure that LaCabana has some how figured out how to ensure that you can’t use the card. Every time I try and use the phone card in my suite, I can’t get through as the line is always busy. I went to the waterfall pool in the Villa section and finished Velocity by Dean Koontz. A great vacation read. I had lunch in the time share. Salami, smoked Gouda with some chips and soda. I hung at the beach and racquet club pool. I had breakfast the suite. I called down to the desk at 9:00 A. M. They were unsure of the status of my room at the Villas and I was told to call back in an hour. Now the fun begins. LOL. I went down to the pool and hung out. I kept checking on the availability of my room at the Villas. They were unsure whether or not the occupants had vacated. I had my bags taken to storage and food items put in a refrigerator. I finally got to my room in the Villas 5579 at 12:30 P.M. Of course, there was a couple still in the room. The maid and the bellman told them that they had to vacate in Spanish. I dropped my bags and put the food in the frig. The room was cleaned and ready by 2:00 P. M. I unpacked and had some left over Dutch fried potatoes and bread from Madame Janette for a late lunch. I did get a couple of pictures of a vandalized Divi Divi tree as well as the good one on the beach at the Amsterdam Manor.

DisgustedMom … I don’t find it at all implausible that Natalee was held captive, either because someone had other plans for her or because her assailants knew that she wasn’t going to meekly do what she was told and keep her mouth shut, like some of the Aruban girls whom Joran and crew drugged and assaulted might have done.
Someone would have had enough brains to know that Natalee wouldn’t give in.

Hopefully we will learn more when the elusive water search is at last carried out … even if what we learn is that Natalee is not in the water.

I was talking to a friend today about gangs in general and he was saying how initiation into gangs these days require the new person to commit an insensitive and/or cruel act upon a completely innocent person. BOGOTA, Colombia—- Colombia said Monday it has seized a private Caribbean island and hundreds of other properties allegedly used by powerful cocaine trafficker to launder millions of dollars in drug profits.
Juan Carlos Ramirez Abadia was arrested in a luxury condominium on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Aug. 7. He faces three U.S. federal indictments on drug and racketeering charges, and U.S. officials have said they plan to seek his extradition.
Colombian authorities said they seized 300 properties across the country — including farms, apartments, empty lots, a hotel and gymnasium — worth about $400 million.
They also seized a private island near the Caribbean tourist city of Cartagena, four cars and 18 private businesses, among them a travel agency and real estate company. They gave no details on the island.
Ramirez Abadia, 44, said in an interview Sunday night with TV Globo’s Fantastico news and entertainment program — Brazil’s most popular — that his arrest will not affect drug trafficking.
”From all the people who started with me in this business several years ago, there are only two or three left. The rest either died or were extradited,” he said. ”I’m in prison but there are people replacing me, then there will be others. It will never end.”
Even while acknowledging his involvement in Colombia’s lucrative cocaine trade, Ramirez Abadia vowed not to testify against his former partners if he is extradited to the United States .
”I’m not going to make any deals,” he said. ”I’ll assume responsibility for my problems alone.”
Ramirez Abadia — nicknamed ”Chupeta,” or lollipop in Colombian Spanish — is considered one of the ringleaders of the Norte del Valle drug cartel, Colombia’s most powerful. The United States had offered a $5 million reward for his capture.
In 1996 he was sentenced to 13 years in prison in Colombia on a drug conviction, but was released in 2001.
In January, authorities confiscated $90 million in various currencies that Ramirez Abadia had allegedly stashed in safe houses in the southern city of Cali, near the cartel’s base.
Think about it … this guy had some $90 million lying around. Just spare cash. I don’t know about you, but to me that’s a lot of money.
Enough to buy an American girl and to persuade people to keep quiet about it … except we know that this sort of thing can’t happen to Americans.

seems to be something Dr Phil had done? Just look at all the work he did…how many people he- or rather his PI questioned for days…..and in the end Dr Phil believed Natalee was alive and had been kidnapped for sex slavery. Does make you wonder.
FBI involvement…or lack thereof….I would not rule out that if Natalee were taken for the trade she could be in the USA somewhere, and maybe ALE and Aruban Gov’t knew that if they let the FBI get involved they would find out a link to the USA after which the FBI would have complete control and the whole mess would be blown wide open with nothing ARuba could do about it!
That phone call Beth got…not the orginal one that set her on the kidnapping idea….the one she talked about on Dr Phil that had a weak voice of Natalee, sounds like Natalee was alive somewhere she was not free to talk.
And let’s not forget the letters that were mailed to the FBI, PVDS and others allegedly from Natalee saying she was fine and just basically wanted to be left alone. Then right after that Tim Miller gets that letter about his own daughter made up of cut-out words and letters.
Someone is having a great time aggravating the family and the people who are involved in searching for Natalee. I just wonder why PVDS got one?
