WOW, imagine what the media would do with this story if Paris Hilton had been convicted in Georgia? Douglas County District Attorney David McDade stated that under Georgia’s open records law he had no choice but to release the tape. Of course it begs the question, why would anyone in the media feel the need to rebroadcast such a tape. Re-broadcasting a video of under age teens is not news, it goes on every day. It is nothing more than sensationalism and the pathetic efforts of a dying media grasping for ratings.
A state lawmaker on Tuesday asked the Georgia attorney general to investigate a prosecutor’s release of an amateur video showing a man who has spent years in prison for child molestation having consensual sex with two teenage girls.
The case against Genarlow Wilson has just gone from bad to worse.
The tape helped put Wilson behind bars, where he is serving a mandatory 10-year sentence on a charge of aggravated child molestation. Although the oral sex with the 15-year-old was consensual, it was a felony under Georgia law at the time. The law has since been changed. Wilson was acquitted of raping the 17-year-old. (Fox News)
UPDATE I: Release of tape in teen sex case may violate child-porn law
The council said in the memo, which it provided to CNN, that Georgia’s open records law contains no exemption for material considered child pornography.
However, David Nahmias, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, said earlier this week: “We have advised that the videotape at issue constitutes child pornography under federal law and should not be knowingly distributed, received or possessed outside of law enforcement and judicial proceedings.”
Nahmias said Tuesday that federal laws prohibiting the distribution or possession of child pornography “are intended to protect the children depicted in such images from the ongoing victimization of having their sexual activity viewed by others, potentially for years to come. … These federal laws trump any contrary requirement of the state’s open records act that may exist.”

Nancy Grace may need to make a house call on the media in Georgia driving this?
I’ve always thought that this case was a serious miscarriage of justice, because the penalty seemed to be way out of line. After all, these were teenagers doing what some teenagers do, but yesterday I heard a legal analyst on one of the cable programs mention that she had seen the tapes and it was a clear case of rape. Apparently the girl was so incapacitated that there was no way for her to give consent.
Now, I am questioning my initial knee-jerk reaction to this case. More needs to be known about all of this.

I have seen the tape and if it were my daughter(s) I would be in jail. I believe that the guy did his job in prosecuting the case. Many people believe that this is a case of black on white crime. I can assure you that it is not. Wilson is black and the two girls are also African American
You can’t stop him.I don’t think it’s wrong to have sex with 15-year old girl.No evidence is unveiled that she was compeled.This is basic instinct of humanbeing .
