Uncle Sam Wants You … Or at Least Your Money … Florida Motorists Ticketed for Speeding
This is a rather unique and innovative way of ticketing speeders over the 4th of July holiday, Police officers in Orange County, FL dressing up like Uncle Sam. From the amount of tickets they handed out and the cash bonanza, its only a matter of time before the Orange County police will be masquerading as an oak tree on Arbor Day, Cupid on Valentines Day or Punxsutawney Phil on Ground Hog Day
Hundreds of Central Florida motorists were ticketed Monday by a costumed Uncle Sam officer in a weeklong operation targeting speeding holiday drivers.
During the four-hour traffic operation, 275 citations were issued, according to sheriff’s deputies.“Unless Uncle Sam hops in your car and puts his foot on your gas pedal and makes you speed, we are not entrapping anybody,” Orange County traffic division Officer Ken Wynne said.
Speeding tickets handed out by Uncle Sam start at $80 and increase with each mile per hour over the speed limit, Orange County sheriff’s deputies said. (Local 6)

BFD, who wants to visit the Capitol of a third world country and Fl has became that. Almost everyone I know that made annual trips to Fl or wintered there now go someplace else. With it’s current assets it will soon go broke paying welfare to the invaders. Mexicans, Cubans and the like are incapable of running a state or Mexico/Cuba wouldn’t be such dumps.
Well, all I can say is follow the speed limit. Many people are killed by speeders, people running red lights, stop signs… discourteous drivers. When you get behind the wheel, everyone’s life out there is your responsibility. I’m sure the officer would rather give your a ticket and not a body bag.
What happens if some criminal catches on and likewise dresses up? And people see him waving to them to pull over, assume he’s a cop and obey, to their peril?
Or. conversely, what happens if people see the Uncle Sam costume, think it’s a joke and ignore it … or think it’s just another lunatic out there (I mean, no offense intended … but this is in Florida!) and keep going?
They are pretty serious. Not just the highways, they are ticketing for everything. Add to that the Florida law for going to defensive driving school or getting points accessed and its quite a little revenue generating business. A person I know was going 34 miles an hour on a residential street. Posted speed was 25. 9 miles over the speed limit and the person had three options. 1)Pay a $180 fine, can be mailed in. Risk the points. 2)Go to court and appeal. Means taking a day off, possible lawyer, and if you are a tourist more travel time, still risk points if you lose; 3) Plead nolo contendre, pay a lesser fine $80 bucks in this case, appear before the clerk and sign an affidavit that you will take a defensive driving course, (Price range $15 – $45) within 60 days, mail your test and proof of course to said Clerk of courts and you will not get any POINTS.
So I say, if you speed on I-4, where some of the worst offenders in Central Florida drive (Orange County) be careful!
Florida has not state income tax, so to pay for services, they use many other methods of revenue generation. Taxes on buying a newspaper for example and socking it big time to speeders. They are also aggressive at ticketing people without seat belts. Drive Safe, drive within the speed limits. Also check out what Virgina is doing to stop its residents from speeding. #1 – I gotta hear who you think “and the likes” are. Bet anybody “white” isn’t included. Of course that’s just a guess – maybe you’ll throw canadians in just so you don’t look racist.
just tell the officer you’re from aruba so everybody’s responsible for your speeding but you.
