Operation ELF: Tis the Season to Catch Speeders

Operation ELF, Enforcing Limits and Fining speeders. Funny I seemed to have missed this Elf_CopChristmas special on TV. In Operation Elf there is no Frosty, no Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, no Santa and even no  Burgermeister Meisterburger… only a police man dressed as an ELF giving tickets to speeders.

Here’s how it works: a sheriff’s deputy dressed as an elf clocks cars using a radar gun then dispatches a motorcycle deputy to pull them over and issue the driver a ticket.

More than 150 tickets were written in just over two hours Thursday.

Some people said using a holiday icon to enforce the law didn’t seem right. (Local 6 FL)

I guess the people caught speeding didn’t think it was more wrong to break the speeding limit than using a holiday icon. Don’t they realize it is the season of giving? Obviously the Orange County, FL police department was just following the spirit of the season as they gave out over 150 speeding tickets in two hours. Hopefully, the police Elf wished the ticketed motorists a safe, slow and Merry Christmas. Can’t wait to see what the Orange County police do next Arbor Day or Ground Hog Day.

I just love cops. Really, I LOVE them! Town cops, county deputies, state police, national forestry officers, and games wardens…FBI…can’t help it as I believe my personality draws me in that direction.

Anyhow, here is a story in our local paper this morning. I had to laugh out loud. What a great idea! Merry Christmas to all…

If ONLY the actual photo of what these cops were handing out was made available on the web.

I can just picture Dana dressing up in an ELF costume catching speeders in The Great White North, lol.

Not sure if I want to envision Dana in leggings, lol ;)

You know, many of us decorate for the holidays, hold parties, even wear festive clothing related to the season. Officers cannot do that! They are normally in uniform all the time. We did have a tree in the secretary’s office, but nothing in the dispatch center. We were not allowed.

I am certain this is a nice way for them to receive a sense of “fun” and even some “relief of stress” in a very stressful and thankless job.

One Halloween, several of our officers dressed in costumes and went into the parties around the college in our town. MANY were charged with allowing underaged drinking as well as for requiring payment at the door before entering a party. THAT is illegal since it is selling alcohol without a license. The officers did have a blast.

One married couple (don’t worry…a male and female officer) dressed as Raggity Ann and Andy (sp.) They were so darn cute together! They also made alot of busts that night.
