Fidel’s Castro Cuba Looks to Improve their Declining Tourism … How About Ending Communism?

Communist Cuba looks to improve their declining tourism in the Caribbean with new Cubameasures that border on the laughable. The will work on new investments, repair hotels, reduce landing fees and here’s a good one … reduce theft by plastic wrapping luggage. I guess they could bring back hijacking planes to Cuba like in the 70′s to force people to land on Cuba and take in the sight? (That would be a joke)

Visitors fell to 2.2 million last year from 2.3 million in 2005. It was the first drop since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States hurt the travel industry worldwide in 2002.

The number of tourists dropped 7% in January and 13% in February compared with the same period in 2006, the Tourism Ministry reported, before ending publication of monthly figures for the first time in years. (TVNZ)

What is up with these Caribbean locals that use every excuse in the world for their declining tourism other than the obvious? Is there something in the water that prevents the truth from being told?

Minister Marrero blamed the “complicated international scene” for his sector’s woes, Granma said, in particular “high oil prices, wars, terrorism and climate change.”

Did the  Cuban Minister just blame global warming for the tourism decline? The fact of the matter is  Cuba is  a communist country where I would dare say that if allowed, more Cubans would leave in a mass exodus than tourists would enter. Cuba was once the peril of the Caribbean for American tourists because of its close proximity to the US. However, that little “embargo” thing that exists today makes Cuba quite a different story along with its political climate.

Cuba, do you really want to increase your tourism? Throw Castro and the communists out of power and watch your tourism increase 1000%.

Fidel Castro has been in power since January 1955. I doubt he and his communist party are the reason for tourist decline now after all these 40+ years.

I see a pattern here, does anyone else?

Seems to me that travelers are being more selective where they travel and spend their monies. Could it be that travelers are avoiding traveling to countries and areas that are not safe, are not headed by a government that protects the safety and rights of individuals, that have high crime rates that involve tourist, and that if they came to harm in that country little if nothing would be done to prosecute those criminals?

Seems there are dire ramifications to tourism if your country is not safe and you have no plans to protect the tourists, if they are harmed.

Yeah Abbey … its global warming … you nailed it. No wait its GW’s fault. No maybe Cheney. Wait … Haliburton, thats it … its Haliburton. Who knew they were responsible for lower tourism in Cuba.

      Are you nuts?

Have you ever seen what a sad state of disrepair that Cuba is in? Its been run like a slum lord. Of course eventually time catches up with it and it all implodes, ask the USSR.

How can anyone expect tourism in a country where more people wish to get the hell out of it than stay? Get a reality check, please.

I have a question, where does Cuba get all the replacement parts to keep those 55 chevy’s running?

Castro has been in charge because he is a blood thirsty selfish tyrant.
