It’S Finally Happened … Fidel Castro Resigns as President (Dictator) of Cuba

Since 1959 Fidel Castro has been the unchallenged leader in Cuba. It now appears that his rule is coming to an end due to his recent health conditions. Fidel Castro will resign as President (Dictator and Chief) of Cuba.

“My wishes have always been to discharge my duties to my last breath,” Castro wrote in a letter published Tuesday in the online edition of the Communist Party daily Granma. But, he wrote, “it would be a betrayal to my conscience to accept a responsibility requiring more mobility and dedication than I am physically able to offer.”

After all the reported recent health issues, what has prompted this move by Castro? Maybe its as Blogs of War writes … “Fidel Castro Resigns, Soon to be Followed by Fidel Castro Dies headlines.” In any event … Good riddance.

Castro resigns as president, state-run paper reports

CNN would discuss Fidel Castro stepping down by referencing the frustrated 10 US Presidents that have held office during Castro’s reign. Maybe they should be discussing the Cuban people’s plight under this dictator instead. CNN, you know … those people who were willing to leave it all behind to escape from Cuba in order to make it to the shores of the US and freedom.

HAVANA, Cuba (CNN) — Fidel Castro announced his resignation as president of Cuba and commander-in-chief of Cuba’s military Tuesday, according to a letter published in the state-run newspaper, Granma.

The resignation ends nearly a half-century of iron-fisted rule that inspired revolutionaries but frustrated 10 U.S. presidents.

Castro revealed his plans without notice by publishing a letter in the middle of the night in state-run newspaper Granma.

Will Castro’s brother continue his communist rule? It would nice if Cuba could return to the carefree, prosperous pre-Castro days. God bless the Cuban people :-)

Well there have been some very disturbing talks on the news of Chavez sweeping in and taking over.
      That is a horryfying thought!

Good news Castro is out, but maybe we need to make nice with Raul asap, if possible!

I heard that all of his buddies down at the Elk’s Lodge chipped together and bought him a nice watch.

What I thought I heard today is that Fidel is only giving up being the prime minister and the president, he is not giving up the real rulership position of head of the Cuban Communist Party. Which is the real authority in Cuba.
      Anyone else hear that?

i think you blame too much on Castro, he had many good ideas, but he was defaced by his peers. this entire thing about “Good Riddance” is blown away. Fidel Castro was corrupted by his friends, and even his parents. as many people had thought about this topic, i am opposite. it doesnt help to say that he was evil, due to the fact that he did what he thought was right. look at the previous “Presidents” of Cuba. they all had a negative feedback. The “President” before Castro was the reason Castro wanted controll, keep this in mind before you begin such silly things as insult a massive figure.
