The Aruban Justice Minister Rudy Croes breaks all ties with The Netherlands and in the future doesn’t want to cooperate any longer. To begin with the country will not participate in the coming tri-party-counsel between justice ministers of The Netherlands, The Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
Rudy Croes said this in Colombia where he stays at this moment. He forbids all contacts between workers of the Justice Departement en The Netherlands. Croes is angry with The Netherlands. Aruba as an autonomous island is only partialy involved in the tri-party counsel. But the countries already do talk a considerable time on further cooperation on justicial field between Aruba and the other Neth. Antilles. Croes now wants to stop al talks about that immediatly.
The Aruban priminister Nel Oduber hasn’t yet responded to Croeses remarks. They have amazed Antillian priminister Emily de Jongh-Elhage who only the last days visited Aruba. The Antillian Minister of Justice David Dick says he either has had contact with Croes yet. He is curious to the motivation of Croeses decission.
Rudy Croes is one of the big men/captains of the government of priminister Nel Oduber, both are related to the political party MEP
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Kingdomsrelations in The Hague sees no reason to react to the remarks of Croes. “We don’t have the impression that he speaks the standpoint of the Aruban government in general.” says a spokesman.

ON 6/9/05, Joan van der Sloot was properly charged as a SUSPECT in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
By this time of course the wrongful arrest and apprehension of Mickey Johns and Abraham Jones had blown up in the faces of the Aruban judiciary. Their arrest, at dawn, on 6/05/05 – pulled out of their beds in their underwear and broadcast worldwide – was a travesty of justice. And it was predicated on INTENTIONALLY FALSE WITNESS TESTIMONY from Deepak and Satish Kalpoe (and likely joran van der sloot, though his 5/31/05 statement remains missing.)
On 6/9/05, the Kalpoe brothers should have been brought in and questioned as WITNESSES with the charge of OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE hanging over their heads.
A first year law student could have discerned this obvious approach.
Any idea what the civil penalty will be for prosecutorial malfeasance, failure to perform and incompetence will be after this gets vetted, Ramm?

Rudy Croes is having some problems with the Dutch Government for some time now. Recently the Dutch High Court decided that Dutch gay marriages should be acknowledged by the Aruban government. Croes opposes to gay marriage. In reaction to this Croes declared that he is ashamed of having a Dutch passport and that he would prefer an Aruban passport. Since last november a dutch guy (Peter de Witte) is in charge of the Aruban Police…. and that’s not because the policeforce was functioning very well!
I’m wondering if Oduber will be quick to slap down Rudy Croes … after all, if it’s a case of the justice minister speaking out of place (isn’t it the job of the head of state to say what the government will do?), then in a normal government he would be straightened out.
This seems to be the problem in Aruba, based on the two years we’ve been watching it … there basically seems to be no order, no standard rules of procedure, nothing that can be relied on to be true both today and tomorrow.
I’m hoping that our State Department is keeping a close eye on this nonsense. Maybe it finally ought to start thinking about the prospect that there is no effective government in that drug barony known as Aruba.
And maybe a tourist advisory might be in order … assuming that our government still feels some vestiges of concern about the safety of Americans abroad.
I hope our Dutch friends here will keep us posted on any reaction in the Netherlands to these outbursts.
To be honest I don’t think Croes will last very long. And the Dutch public? They are sick and tired of the scandals and the corruption…they gave up long ago and don’t really care..

Yeah we heard he didn’t like the gay marriage but there’s more than that to this “outburst” as Richard put it. Melissa…i thought the same thing when i first read this is that Oduber doesn’t want to pay back the Dutch Loans he made recently. But i’m hoping and praying right now that it also has to do with Natalee and the Dutch puts a stop to this nonsense that most Def reflects on the Dutch living on the motherland.
It may be political and have nothing to do with the investigation of Natalee’s disappearance. Or it could be that Rudy Croes expected the Dutch to find nothing and close the case so Rudy and Nellie and Paulus and Joe T could say “See? No evidence of a crime. No evidence against the van der Sloots.” We’ve done all we can. Case closed. This does make me think that the Dutch are on to the corruption and crimes behind the disappearance of Natalee Holloway that turned this investigation into a farce.
As for men/women of integrity, who can’t be bought, who step into those boots because that’s just who they are, I’d like to add Jossy and Tim Miller and let’s not forget Dana Pretzer.

I think it all comes down to one thing: Croes and associates don’t like the Dutch to interfere with their bussiness. And because of colonisation everything is very sensitive. I think the dutch tried not to interfere for a long time, because they do want to give them the right to govern their island…. but it seems they aren’t very capable to do so, or at least, the current government isn’t. Now things were getting so far out of hand, the Dutch had to step in.

Remember that the Dutch at one time intervened in the government of … I believe it was Curacao … and suspended the operations of the finance department.

Back in 2001 …. The United Nations committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against women, reviewed the status of all membership nations concerning their oath to eliminate discrimination against women. A report submitted by the Netherlands claimed to have made made progress in this area.
One would have to consider, whether the committee has now been informed of the 2005 barbaric treatment of Beth Twitty, a mother whose only request to Aruban government officials was that her daughter be returned to her.
In her refusal to accept the abomination of lies, deception and out-right corruption concerning her attempts to get answers to heartbreaking questions over what was done to her daughter, Natalee, Beth Twitty was subjected to death threats, verbal assaults, and accusations of a contemptable nature that cast a heavy cloud of insidious corruption, and depraved indifference upon those individuals involved in the kidnapping, rape and murder of Beth’s daughter, Natalee, as well as the depraved assaultive conduct inflicted upon Beth in her search for the truth – and answers to WHAT has been done to her daughter, who took her away, and where has she been taken to. The flagrant violations of human rights, and abusive treatement of Natalee Holloway and her mother must be addressed by the UN committee, and in particular, by the Netherlands.
Has the UN Committee on the elimination of discrimination against women, been informed of how Beth Twitty was treated – and was this treatment more of a barbaric view into those criminal Arubans substandard attitudes about women that allow children to be kidnapped, raped, beaten – and in Beth’s daughter’s case: murdered?
Has the Committee on the elimination of discrimination against women, been privy to the barbaric acts of assaultive language hurled at Beth, resulting from her insistence that her daughter be returned to her?
How does the committee view the findings of the ALE in how Beth Twitty was treated, and how the case of her missing daughter was treated?
What of other women, whose cries for help and assistance in Aruba were completely ignored?
Is there a continuing systematic violation of women’s rights being carried out in Aruba, based on an already substandard attitude towards women, reflected in corrections that were supposed to be implemented back in 1996, yet as of 2001, Aruba’s actions were speaking far louder than empty promises, as it appears, that at the 2001 meeting, Aruba failed to provide representatives to the meeting – so much for the value of women. Furthermore, it is compelling when considering the treatment of Beth Twitty regarding the savage cruelty inflicted upon her and her daughter, when considering that as far back as 1996, claims were being made to address Aruba’s subordinate attutides towards women.
Here below lies a 2001 UN report where the Netherlands had claimed – as of 2001, to have demonstrated improvements concerning the elimination of discrimination against women:
The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, comprising 23 experts from around the world, monitors compliance with the provisions of the 168-member Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Operational since 1981, it requires States parties to eliminate discrimination against women in the enjoyment of all civil, political, economic and cultural rights. An Optional Protocol of December 2000 — ratified by
21 States parties — entitles the Committee to consider petitions from individual women or groups of women who have exhausted national remedies. It also entitles it to conduct inquiries into grave or systematic violations of the Convention.
Much attention was focused on the recent abolition of the ban on brothels, in effect since January 1999. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice said that the Dutch Government was profoundly aware that the public was divided on the subject of prostitution and the way in which the Government should deal with it. It had been widely debated, in both Parliament and society. There was respect for the view that prostitution was an affront to human dignity and also for the view that sex for money among consenting adults had nothing to do with human dignity and should, therefore, be allowed.
The reports on compliance by the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba — two autonomous parts of the Netherlands — were presented by Dirk Jan van den Berg, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands. He said that since its first appearance before the Committee in 1994, the Government of the Netherlands Antilles had striven towards the full implementation of the Women’s Convention. A new civil code of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba had come into force, making defunct a number of discriminatory laws, thus granting women equal rights in matters of marriage and family.
On the situation in Aruba, he said a National Bureau of Women’s Affairs had been established there in 1996. That had played an important role in raising awareness of the rights of women and existing discriminatory provisions of the law. It also paid special attention to the traditional attitudes and practices, under which women were regarded as subordinate.
Several experts expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of representation at the hearing from either the Netherlands Antilles or Aruba.
The delegation from the Netherlands also included: G. Bekman and F.J. van Houwelingen of the Ministry for Social Affairs and Employment; H.J.B. Karreman and L.J.M. Ling Ket On of the Ministry of Justice; and A. Tiems of the Department for Mental Health Care, Care and Treatment of Drug Addicts and Social Care, Ministry for Public Health, Social Welfare and Sport.

It would seem that the Netherlands owes an apology to Beth Twitty for the contemptable conduct inflicted upon her by Aruba, and inflicted upon her beloved daughter, Natalee.
It would seem that the Netherlands owes – at the very least, a substantive demonstration of word put into action regarding the valuing of women, and in particular: valuing Beth Twitty’s right to KNOW WHERE HER DAUGHTER IS AS WELL AS HAVE HER RETURNED TO HER FAMILY, as well as NATALEE HOLLOWAY’S rights – to be valued as a human being, and dignified with her release from unlawful imprisonment in Aruba, and the desecration and containment of her body by the rapists who murdered her.

Alas, 77 – at this point in time, Aruba is not independent of the Netherlands, and indeed does depend upon the mother ship, so to speak, concerning various jurisdictional matters for which the Netherlands supplies financial support to Aruba. This clearly indicates a relationship between the two, that mandates responsibility and accountability not only between the two countries, but amongst those countries with whom they have ties, and relationships.
This relationship would suggest that Aruba and the Netherlands are indeed intrinsically connected ( unless, of course Rudy has already implemented Oduber’s threat to milk his uncle, Chavez for financial support in his earlier threat to snub the Netherlands.)
This would seem to suggest that at the very least, Aruba is not fully autonomous on all internal matters, and indeed is accountable to the Netherlands when it concerns jurisdictional matters of defense, foreign affairs and certain judicial functions.
“Part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba has full autonomy on all internal affairs with the exception of defense, foreign affairs, and some judicial functions.” ( US State Dept.)
In the words of Condoleeza Rice, when quoting President George Bush, the secretary of state emphasized that human dignity was non-negotiable as a value of concern to the United States:
“We are recommitting ourselves to call every government to account that still treats the basic rights of its citizens as options rather than, in President Bush’s words, the non-negotiable demands of human dignity.” (Condoleeza Rice)
Natalee Holloway was a guest to Aruba, and a citizen of the United States of America.
Her freedom was never an “option” for seizure by kidnappers, rapists and murderers.
Indeed, Natalee’s freedom is valued and precious to her family.
It will be telling to learn how the Netherlands treats this matter of human rights violations against an American citizen, Natalee Holloway, in a Dutch territory, Aruba.
Thus: the call for a boycott to all Dutch territories, until the matter of exactly where the Netherlands will choose to stand is transparent for all to see – particularly, Natalee’s grieving family, whose only wish is to have their daughter returned to them, so that they can honor her with a proper burial that dignifies her human rights to be treated with dignity and respect and not held as a hostage in a foreign country, to the rapists and murderers who took everything that Natalee loved away from her, and left her mother and father inconsolable, tormented and heart broken with the daily torture of not knowing where she was taken, what was done to her and who took her away from her loving family – forever.
Hello Mr. Holloway, alot of us feel that way just seeing him on tv and in pics, R. Croe’s has actually been in your presence has he not? I can only imagine the strange interactions the family had with the entire cast of characters.
It’s intriguing, to see how rapdily Aruban officials mobilized in order to contain the unfolding hideous criminal scandal right in their midst, as Natalee’s parents were faced with the unimaginable task of searching crack houses, nightclubs known by polis to administer drugs unknowingly to customers, and garbage pits – all at the heartless suggestions that were filtered through various “officials” in Aruba to this brutally victimized family whose only hope was to find their precious daughter, Natalee.
And to think, that by June 5th – there was an Aruban contingency already here in the United States, visiting our secretary of state, and discussing Natalee…
You have to wonder, what exactly did Nelson Oduber say to our secretary of state, who received that Aruban contingency in good faith that they were truly conducting a transparent, honest investigation into the disappearance of Natalee?
And what must our secretary of state think of him now, and the “minister of justice”, Rudy Croes, who both seem to have this alluring attraction to the dictator from Venezuela, Chavez.
How telling that Aruban officials were already in Florida, by June 5, 2005, the same day that Mickey John and Abraham Jones were arrested.
How telling that the Aruban contingency arrived that day, to offer their report on their “efforts” in finding Natalee.
You just have to wonder at the amazing coincidence that THIS was the day, that these Aruban officials decided to pay a visit to our secretary of state.

Children in Aruba deserve to grow in a society that insures the sanctity of justice, that preserves the dignity of their human rights, and the integrity of their truth by upholding the laws intended to defend and protect them.
Natalee Holloway deserved nothing less.
Our hearts are broken, but our resolve for Natalee’s right to justice and her right for her family to carry home her truth will not be broken.

Who is really in charge of the Natalee Holloway case and the horrific mess made of it? Is it Aruba or is it The Netherlands?
1. People prime to this case were relocated to the Netherlands really quickly. We assume they ‘ran’ away to escape the ALE. Yet if the Netherlands is so responsible for judicial matters of Aruba, then what safety zone is the Netherlands for these people therefore? Did they ‘run’ there of their own free will? Or were they summoned there by the Dutch for safe keeping?
2. Joran could be there almost as a hostage should PVDS tell who really was behind his and his son’s involvement with Natalee. And he was kept in jail -safe, as Anita said- until it was time for him to go to school in The Netherlands whereupon he was released from jail BEFORE that particular allotted time he could have been held was up.
3. Where did all the ‘evidence’ go before it was ‘lost’ or devalued? Wasn’t it, The Netherlands?
4. And now we have Rudy Croes saying he’s had enough of The Netherlands telling him what to do, and he says this while being on non-Netherland aka protective soil?
I’m not siding with the Arubans or anything. I’m just thinking “what the heck?” and wondering if we have been blaming only part of the Bigger Picture and that perhaps The Netherlands has been calling the coverup shots all along as well as perhaps those of Dutch decent being the ones directly involved with Natalee’s disappearance from the beginning of her being maybe selected that fateful night, and the Netherlands is letting Aruba take the fall.

Though human rights are not for sale, they cannot also be bought. Yet justice within the kingdom is nowhere to be found. That is why I urgently wish to ask you as the head of state: do human rights concerning me exist in the kingdom? This because I am also born with human dignity and also have the right of human rights, justice, peace and freedom concerning me being respected and yet I cannot emigrate to my country of birth owing to the fact that the government of Aruba, the public prosecuting agency of Aruba, and members of the common court of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba cannot be trusted! Knowingly and willingly the public prosecution agency of Aruba has four times horribly violated the observance of human rights concerning me, by hostaging me, torturing and imprisoning me without me having committed a prior crime with a total of 257 days in solitary confinement and 20 hours of imprisonment without rights. This with the compliance and knowledge of the aforementioned court. And as you are well aware of all these crimes committed against me by the organisations and institutions of the government of the insular territory Aruba and your civil servants who have taken the oath, like the public prosecutors general (PG’s), who should have known better, especially that public prosecutor general (PG) Mr Drs Teresa Diana Croes Fernandes Pedra, because I have already been informing you for years by means of correspondence, after your representatives had remained deaf and dumb to all my complaints and you too have remained totally passive to all the crimes.
The legal consequences are that you, the Prime Minister Balkenende and all secretaries have in a penal law sense ( and not a constitutional one), by not acting, all committed the following crimes:

• Violating the European Treaty of the Rights of man, in which is included the Universal Declaration of the Rights of man
• Violating the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union
• Violating the Treaty of New York (the U.N. treaty) and all further relevant treaties relevant to the rights of man
• Taking revenge by abuse of power and supporting the very corrupt government of Aruba, the public prosecuting agency and the communal court of justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba
• Hostaging me four times with a total of 257 days in solitary confinement and 20 hours of imprisonment without me having committed a prior crime, together with conspiring, plotting against me, discriminating me, telling lies to me, hostaging me, torturing me, stealing my property and subjugating me while being bound on hands and feet
• Threatening to murder me with a black pistol aimed at me in the police station of San Nicolas on Aruba
• Manipulating the law, lawyers, and the criminal sentence of 26th of March 2002, case number h.16/02, so that I am without a legal chance in the procedure in cassation
• Abusing my under aged children by making them make damaging statements against me without them knowing what they were doing
• Committing forgery and falsifying official documents
• Covering up the dossier of the sentence of the 26th of March 2002, case number H.16/02, by the abovementioned court, so that I remain ignorant of the reason why I remained captive for 257 days in solitary confinement
• Letting the public prosecuting agency of Aruba make dossiers disappear and covering that up.
• Covering up crimes against humanity by civil servants of the public prosecuting agency of Aruba
• Writing two false rehabilitation reports (H. Hoevertz) and two false psychiatrist reports (H.A.E van Gaalen), addressed to me with the aim to ruin my mental health on the island of Aruba, so that the truth would not surface
• Placing me in a cell without a mattress, light, fresh air and a toilet
• Allowing the sale of drugs
• Corruption and a lot more devious things addressed against me that have taken place on the insular territory of Aruba, where you too are queen and head of state, in your name in a government building with closed doors where I was bound at hands and feet on the order of your crown civil servants, with on the wall your portrait at a desk apparently with your instructions, where you are also the head of state and queen with the last constitutional responsibility
Of this you and your government are well aware or should be. And you and your Prime Minister Mr Drs Prof. J.P. Balkenende act as if there is nothing the matter, while the two of you both willingly and knowingly close your eyes to the truth of injustice, the unfairness of the semi dictatorial way of proceeding of the Prime Minister in the Netherlands as well as in Aruba, the secretaries here in this country and as well in Aruba, the members of the public prosecuting agency of Aruba, by this passive mentality and positioning.
That is why I do not address you with Majesty, because you are not worth being addressed with the term Majesty, because your representatives do not respect you and they have in your name in front of your state portrait horribly trampled upon my human rights and you keep a hermetic silence while you are well informed, because of that you apply a double standard!
It is also of the greatest importance that human rights within the kingdom of the Netherlands
should too be protected and observed by the supremacy of law as guaranteed in the Dutch constitution, the Constitutional regulation of Aruba, the Statute for the kingdom of the Netherlands and the International treaties that your government, your predecessors and also you have signed concerning the legal performance and functioning of the constitutional state in the sense of the guaranteed rights and liberties for everyone so that duped persons are not in last instance forced to resort to inciting a revolution against oppression, tyranny and class justice. (signed treaties nota bene in which The Netherlands has guaranteed that human rights are observed and that there shall be sound government on Aruba and Curacao; such has as consequence that, if there should still arise corruption, violations of human rights, all kinds of legal and financial malversations and misgovernment, the motherland The Netherlands will have neglected her duties and repudiated her responsibilities), (In this regard please reminiscence the origin of the outbreak of the French revolution of 1789; e.g. among others things the excesses of Marie Antoinette).

CONCLUSION:
Seen from a legal point of view I can only draw the conclusion that you support and protect hardened white collar criminals, together with Prime Minister J.P. Balkenende and the remaining secretaries of the Balkenende Cabinets, as well as the civil servants concerned on the afore mentioned insular territories whom have committed the afore mentioned crimes.
As a legal consequence therefore you and the Prime Minister together with all the secretaries and civil servants concerned here in this country and overseas must be prosecuted! And as I further know you have constitutional immunity, I must alas draw the legal conclusion and consequence that you are TOTALLY INCOMPETENT, AND TAKING PART IN, BEING ACCESSORY TO, AT AND FOR, AND COMMIT ACTIONS OF SUPPORT TO CORRUPT CROWN CIVIL SERVANTS, TOGETHER WITH ALL THE AFOREMENTIONED PERSONS and that you, the Prime Minister J.P. Balkenende and the remaining secretaries, should immediately be removed from office as the head of state and all the persons concerned be removed from office by the parliament as a constitutional sanction and you together with all the aforementioned persons have to be criminally prosecuted in order for your and their total involvement in all afore mentioned crimes to be established.
Besides you and your prime minister J.P. Balkenende have not the right to point out to foreign powers to respect human rights: A diplomatic and trade mission of your administration Balkenende went to China in April 2004 where the Chinese P.M. Wen Jiabao was at the same time called to account for the better observance of human rights. Also on the 1st of November 2005 you and the P.M., mister J.P. Balkenende, together went to Schiphol Airport to receive the Russian president, mister Vladimir Poetin, and at the same time call him to account for the violations of human rights in his country with the object of the exploitation of natural gas and the abundant wealth of income from oil and natural gas. On the 30th of March 2006 during your state visit to the Argentine where you had a special agenda for the committed violations of human rights by the regime of Jorge Videla. You were also present at various opening ceremonies that directly refer to the existence and functioning of the universal declaration of Human rights and the aforementioned treaty of New York.
And I can continue like this while my screams for justice to your government since 2003 and to you yourself since 2004 have fallen on deaf ears! Namely, because violations of human rights are covertly permitted within the kingdom of the Netherlands! I am therefore absolutely convinced that there is nobody within the administration of justice in the kingdom willing to move a finger to investigate all my complaints to the bottom. Nobody from the side of your government within the kingdom wants to hear the truth of injustice, and the unfairness of the political discrimination.
This is -speaking politically- a bad state of affairs, a disgrace and a scandal!

My open letter is not meant to discredit you or your government; it is meant, however, to illustrate the other side of the Dutch European coin so that the rights of man, truth, justice, human dignity, peace and freedom are in reality permanently able to manifest themselves within your kingdom!

Mr Elivia Elvira Lugo who is well versed in committing injustice and violating human rights, on the instructions of the public prosecutor, your crown civil servant, Mr Drs Teresa Diana Croes Fernandes and the former acting public prosecutor, Mr Frits C.V. de Groot, everything and everybody with the blessing of the very corrupt minister of justice, Hyacintho Rudolfo Croes ( alias Rudygate) and the former president of the court of appeal, Luis R.J. de Lannoy
I now ask you not for help, but I do ask you, as such is your duty, to observe the correct compliance of human rights and bring order within the kingdom itself by promoting the actual enforcement of all human rights, before you, as head of state, address other countries on violations of human rights; because in the Kingdom it has become a totally normal state of affairs that human rights are trampled upon. Because everybody shields and covers everybody else in a constitutional, legal and political sense.
For that reason it is not clear to me what kind of constitutional state exists within the Kingdom. Because it cannot be that in a constitutional state human rights are trampled upon and the state secretaries and civil servants and the head of state have their mouths full of the existence and proper functioning of human rights within the democracy of the Dutch constitutional state; by simulating the existence of a living democracy, but in fact allowing
the reality of a political white collar criminality .
Namely, violations of human rights are covertly permitted within the kingdom of the Netherlands, while nobody wants to put a stop to this utterly unsavoury situation!
On the basis of the aforementioned it has to be concluded and determined that within the Kingdom of the Netherlands up to this moment each and every existing political administration, the formal heads of state of the Kingdom of Holland violate human rights or ignore them and have every interest in preventing actions that cannot stand daylight come to the surface, which has as a political and legal consequence that the Kingdom of the Netherlands is in fact a covert fascist dictatorship.

People wonder why I play the anthem and thread on the Dutch flag; well, it is because I have so many times taken from 1999 onwards the regular and civilised road of correspondence and gotten nowhere, that I have become radicalised with anger and frustration at the sheer injustice of my situation and position, caused by the great indifference of the Dutch head of state, queen Beatrix, her government and the Aruba cabinet of Oduber, the very corrupt public prosecuting agency of Aruba and communal court of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba!(If they cannot stand the heat, let them get out of the kitchen!)

It is reported that Karin Janssen, the chief public prosecutor of Aruba, has left the island upon the expiration of her employment contract and has returned to the Netherlands. This is the same Karin Janssen who, about a year ago, said “fireworks” were imminent in the case of Natalee Holloway, an American who vanished on Aruba on May 30, 2005.
It is not surprising, given Aruba’s litany of promises that turn out to be lies and pledges that are never carried out, that yet another statement by an Aruban official turned out to be empty. After all, Karin Janssen did once say that “we are getting the picture of the puzzle,” and said that it was possible to prosecute a case even in the absence of a body. Unfortunately, neither those statements nor any other have urged Aruba to take action.
I am taking the presumption of writing to urge upon Your Majesty my sincere belief that only determined action by your government now offers a possibility of solving this case.
In 2005, a team of Dutch detectives visited Aruba and said they were certain that Joran van der Sloot knew what happened to Natalee Holloway. In August 2006, Aruba asked your law enforcement authorities to take over the investigation. Dutch agents went to Aruba, collected documents, and returned home. Since then, there has been only silence.
It would be tedious to list all of the evidence that points to the complicity of at least some members of Aruban government and law enforcement personnel in a conspiracy to shield certain persons from prosecution and punishment. Allow me to cite some key items here:
–The lead investigator at the outset of the case, Jan van der Straaten, was a personal friend of Paulus van der Sloot, the father of one of the three main suspects.
–Prosecutor Karin Janssen delayed arresting the three main suspects, the persons last seen with Natalee Holloway, even as two security guards were arrested with no evidence against them other than accusations by the main suspects, who later recanted them.
–Although Dutch law stipulates that lying as a witness is a crime that bears a penalty, the many lies of the three main suspects and of their acquaintances were never prosecuted.
–The van der Sloot home, residence of a key suspect, was not searched for about three weeks, though the homes of the security guard ‘suspects’ were searched upon their arrest.
–When the van der Sloot home finally was searched, Judge Robert Wit, who was there, prohibited Aruban police from executing the terms of their warrant, which allowed a full search of the house and property, limiting the search to Joran van der Sloot’s apartment.
–Paulus van der Sloot was allowed to review and edit his son’s initial statement to police and had access to police files while the belated investigation was proceeding.
–Despite the many contradictions in the testimony of the three main suspects and of their acquaintances, a panel of judges ruled that the three could not be questioned further except on a voluntary basis. A subsequent pledge by Aruban spokesman Steve Cohen that Joran van der Sloot would be re-interrogated was never carried out.
Your Majesty, these are but a few of the issues that have perplexed and angered the American public. More than a year and a half after Natalee Holloway vanished in Aruba, her family remain uninformed as to her fate. Aruba seems indifferent to this injustice.
It is my unpleasant duty further to inform Your Majesty that this month another American tourist has gone missing in the Netherlands Antilles island of Saba. It is reported that officials of that island refused to allow missing-person posters to be displayed, citing fears of an adverse impact on tourism. This case remains unsolved as I write, but the indifference indicated by the island’s stance is highly suggestive of Aruba.
Finally, may I remind Your Majesty that the case of Amy Bradley, an American believed to have been kidnapped in March 1998 from a cruise ship docked at port in Curacao, also is unsolved despite continued reports of sightings of her in apparent situations of duress.
No American now expects honesty, integrity, or impartiality from Aruba’s government. We therefore must implore Your Majesty to ensure that your government will take active measures. It is a source of great disappointment that nothing but silence has been heard from the Dutch investigators, and has led to suspicions that no real action is planned.
Your Majesty is aware of the courage displayed by Lamoral, Count of Egmont, who to his cost defied Spanish tyranny and championed the spirit of liberty. Likewise, the families of Amy Bradley and Natalee Holloway have been pursuing justice, and defying modern tyranny, in an area of the world where Your Majesty wields extensive influence.
May I conclude this letter by beseeching Your Majesty to instruct your government also to defy the tyranny and injustice exemplified by Aruban action and inaction, and to ensure that our two peoples will stand unified in our determination that justice be done.
