Rotterdam Gorilla Escapes, Rumors Abound On Reasons

A 400 pound gorilla escaped his enclosure in the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The escape included swimming across the moat that was designed to keep him in as gorilla’s can not swim. While we are not completely certain what the motivation of the gorilla was, the jungle grapevine between us simians may shine a clue on the gorilla’s thinking.

Of course, we officially deny anything to do with the escaping gorilla, we will accept any help in finding information on the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

Notice how the two look very much like each other! Always thought Dutch Boy had that cave man look about him with that proturding forehead…..maybe this 400 lb gorilla and he are kin? Need to ask the “Judge.”

I wonder if the Dutch police will send their elite units to do an investigation of this escape? Well, maybe in two years….

This gorilla managed to escape from an “escape-proof” facility. It would be incorrect, though, to draw conclusions regarding the relative intelligence of gorillas and the Dutch ….

Tomorrow, F-16′s will do a fly-over. The spider monkeys will say they saw the gorilla last by the chimp cage. The police will arrest the chimpazees. The zoo keeper will sweat like Steve Croes trying to read. Other blogs will report that the gorilla was never in the zoo and there is no evidence that the gorilla was ever in captivity. No gorilla, no visitors. In panic, the zoo spends $20 million dollars to restore the zoo’s reputation of “one happy zoo”. Visitors dont buy it. The brave souls that still visit are harrassed by stoned ring-tailed lemurs that have become a tremendous nuisance. Demonstrations ensue to complain about the lemur problem. The zoo keeper sues for defamation of character. The orangutan committs suicide by cutting off his head and then setting himself on fire, according to the police report. The spider monkeys sue Dr Phil. The chief of police is “retired” and decides to go to medical school. Opens taco stand instead.

      Oh yeah, real funny.

Tell that to the 50 year old woman he seriously inured. The gorilla dragged her around like a puppet, crushing her hand, breaking her arm in several places, biting her dozens of times (according to the husband 100 times).

The 50 year old woman who was the victim of this attack had to be operated on several times since she was admitted and has spent several days in an induced coma in an ICU bed.

      Yes, real funny

this lady and her child surely would see the “fun” in it.

      =============================================================

Nobody said it was escape proof. There is no such thing as escape proof. The moat and the enclosure were built to guidelines that exist for enclosures for gorillas, the moat was even wider than the guidelines quote for added security.

Gorillas aren’t able to swim so it is unknown how he got to the wall to begin with. Most apes drown when falling into water.

      Apes

Gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans and at least some gibbons are among the few mammals which lack the instinctive ability to swim, although they can wade upright in water. There are reports that siamang can swim. There are numerous reports of apes in zoos falling and drowning in water moats without any struggle. Humans on the other hand, are the only apes known to swim

      Gorilla’s escape,
      violent rampage
      stun zoo officials
3 people hospitalized after attack in Dallas

      Updated: 2:58 p.m. ET March 19, 2004

DALLAS – Dallas Zoo officials said they can’t explain how a 300-pound gorilla escaped from his enclosure, injuring four people before he was shot to death.

Police evacuated an estimated 300 people from the zoo compound Thursday and killed Jabari, a 13-year-old male western lowland gorilla, after he charged at officers.

Zoo workers armed with tranquilizer guns had pursued the animal through the forested jungles of the Wilds of Africa exhibit for about 40 minutes, but could not gain a clear shot, officials said.

“It tried to charge two of our officers, so we had to shoot it,” Deputy Police Chief Daniel Garcia said. “You can imagine the pandemonium we had out here when he got loose. We felt terrible we had to put this animal down.”

‘He has my son in his mouth’
The injured included a mother and her toddler son. Rivers Noah, 3, was in fair condition at Children’s Medical Center with multiple bites to his head and chest. His mother, Keisha Heard, 26, who was bitten on the legs, and Cheryl Reichert, who suffered arm injuries, were treated at hospitals and released.

“I was like, ‘This is not happening, this is so unreal,’ cause he just came out of nowhere,” Heard said Friday on NBC’s Today show. “I’m watching this gorilla. He has my son in his mouth, he’s attacking him, and I tried to help him and there wasn’t really anything that I could do. … He slings me back across the concrete area where we are. So it was really scary.”

The fourth injured person, a child, was treated at the scene.

Jabari was in the award-winning gorilla-conservation area, two acres surrounded by a 16-foot concave wall, before the attack around 5 p.m. Some youths had reportedly teased Jabari shortly before.

“He had to have scaled the wall,” said zoo director Rich Buickerood. But “this habitat is among the best in the country. This blows our minds.”

He said he did not know why zoo employees, who were armed with pepper spray, did not use it on the gorilla.

      Running for cover
Some zoo-goers hid inside a restaurant and the monorail surrounding the Wilds of Africa exhibit.

The gorilla darted in and out of thick bamboo and trees before officers spotted him on a nature trail. He was holding a pair of white children’s sandals when he came within 15 feet of two officers who shot him, police Lt. Anthony Williams said.

The 114-year-old zoo has been in financial straits and the nonprofit Dallas Zoological Society recently proposed a county takeover. Buickerood said last month that the zoo staff had been cut and maintenance postponed because of the fund shortage.

In 1998, a zookeeper was injured by a 340-pound gorilla after a cage door was left open. The zookeeper suffered more than 30 puncture wounds. That animal was captured with a tranquilizer dart.

Zoo officials said the Wilds of Africa section and the Monorail Safari were closed Friday, but would reopen Saturday.

      Mauled Wife: Chimps Overwhelmed Us

      SAN FRANCISCO, March 7, 2005

(AP) A man who was severely mauled by two chimpanzees at an animal sanctuary last week was quickly overwhelmed when the apes attacked, his wife said Monday.

“One was at his head, one was at his foot. But all that time … he was trying to reason with them,” a sobbing LaDonna Davis told ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “I couldn’t do anything.”

Davis, 64, and her husband, St. James Davis, were visiting Animal Haven Ranch near Bakersfield on Thursday when two male chimps escaped their enclosure and attacked the couple.

“When we made eye contact, the charge was on,” LaDonna Davis said. “There was no stopping anything, and the big chimp came around from behind me and pushed me into my husband. The male came around from behind and chomped off my thumb. … My husband must have realized we were in deep trouble because he pushed me backward. At that time, they both went for him.”

St. James Davis, 62, lost all the fingers from both hands, an eye, part of his nose, cheek, lips and part of his buttocks in the ferocious attack, his wife said over the weekend on NBC’s “Today Show.” She also said one of his feet was mutilated. A Kern County Sheriff’s commander also said his genitals were mauled.

St. James Davis was being treated at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where doctors said his condition was “minute by minute,” his wife said Monday.

“Right now what they are trying to do is keep his breathing constant,” she said. “That’s all they can tell me, but I told him that he can’t leave me. He has to be strong.”

The Davises were visiting the sanctuary to celebrate the birthday of Moe – a 39-year-old chimpanzee who was taken from their home in West Covina, a Los Angeles suburb, after biting off part of a woman’s finger in 1999.

Authorities were continuing to investigate how the two chimps, named Ollie and Buddy, got loose. Both were shot and killed during the attack.

      About the gorilla…
The woman that got attacked (one of four that got attacked) was a mol daily visitor of the apehouse. There’s a video of her kissing the ape through the protective glass of the apehouse. Maybe “Bokito” had become to see her as one of his “women”…
So… Lesson of this story (maybe)… Never mingle with the apes or the ape-like…

“The course of true love never did run smooth” …

Woman still likes gorilla despite attack
      May 21, 2007

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A 57-year-old Dutch woman who was attacked by a gorilla at a Rotterdam zoo said the ape was still her favorite even though she felt she was going to die when he bit her.

“I go to the zoo almost every day with my husband, and we’re always going to see Bokito. I even have pictures and videos from Berlin when he was only four months old,” the woman told Dutch mass-circulation daily Telegraaf.

“He is and remains my darling,” the paper quoted the woman as saying from her hospital bed, where she is being treated for bite wounds and a broken arm and wrist. The 11-year old male gorilla burst out of its enclosure on Friday and went on a rampage in the zoo’s cafeteria before being recaptured.

“I stood by the small apes in the Africa section when I heard a thud behind me. I turned around and there was Bokito. I had nowhere to go. He gripped me, sat on me with his full weight and began biting me,” the woman told the Telegraaf.

“I could only think ‘O God, I’m going to die, I’m going to die’.”

The Telegraaf said people had since come from across the country to Rotterdam Zoo to see the gorilla.

      ================================================

Joran might have been doing a lot of illegal things, but the two you mention here (drinking and gambling) are not illegal for Joran to do. There is no law that can fine him or worse for doing these 2 things

      _________________

SM:   Ramm – it may not be illegal in the Netherlands to drink at age 17, but according to the aruba.com site the legal age for drinking and gambling in Aruba is/was 18.   Since aruba.com is the official site why shouldn’t we believe it? (klaasend)

What is the legal drinking/gambling age?

The legal age for both drinking and gambling is 18 years. You might be asked for your ID and it’s advisable to always have it with you.

    43. Rammstein on May 21st, 2007 10:13 pm

Klaasend, it is illegal for business to serve strong alcohol to people under the age of 18 and illegal for businesses to serve beer and light alcoholic beverages for people under 16.

But it is an economic offense, not a criminal one. Furthermore, the person who does the drinking is not breaking the law.

The same goes for gambling. It is illegal for a business to allow a person under 18 to gamble. It too is an economic offense.

A person being caught gambling can be barred from the casino but cannot be fined or prosecuted for having gambled as it is not a criminal or economic offense for a person under the age of 18 to gamble.

I never thought I’d see him. I was surprised and felt a lot of anger at the same time. I felt a bad vibe when I stared right in his face. Stupid ass, spoiled dutch boy (not even a native) causing all this trouble, leaving Aruba with a scar. I just wanted to beat the shit out of him.
