IPod Saves Soldiers Life

In the past it would have been a bible, but the IPod sure did the job saving Kevin Garrad’s life in Iraq.

Ipod_stops_bulletKevin Garrad of the 3rd Infantry Division is an Ipod user for life—which incidentally got extended thanks to Apple’s little music player. He was on patrol in Iraq when he met an armed insurgent carrying an AK-47. Both opened fire, and the bullet heading toward Kevin hit his chest right where his IPod was, which was enough to slow down the bullet to not pierce entirely through the body armor.

The fact that he had a 20GB (older and thicker) iPod probably helped slow down the bullet more than if he had one of the newer (and thinner) 30GB ones. In that sense, an Archos would probably be enough to stop a tank shell.

My dad fought in WW II. When he about to leave the states, my grandmother sent him a bible. Not your regular kind of bible. It was a pocket sized little book and the front cover was made of a heavy metal. It was called a ‘shield bible’. Back then, the idea was to put the little metal book in the pocket over the heart. Guess times have changed. I have that bible along with the flag that was drapped over his coffin when he passed away. Forgive my walk down memory lane.
