More Liberal Tolerance … This time its Columbia University while Minute Men trying to Speak

Its a funny thing how liberals far left whine about their free speech, but seem to forget about The First Amendment when it comes time for others to exercise their right. Such was the case at Columbia University when the Minute Men and Jim Gilchrist tried to speak. This is unbelievable. Columbia University, its President and alumni should be ashamed at the behavior of what makes up its student body.

At Columbia, Students Attack Minuteman Founder

Students stormed the stage at Columbia University’s Roone auditorium yesterday, knocking over chairs and tables and attacking Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minutemen, a group that patrols the border between America and Mexico. (New York Sun)

Also read a great live blogging account from The BWOG, (a must read)

7: 30 PM: In the biggest old-fashioned activist shindig Broadway has seen since Chris Kulawik’s last guest arrived in November 2005, hundreds of students and community members yelled and picketed outside Lerner to protest the arrival of Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minutemen. They had catchy slogans.

“Workers of the world unite! Same struggle, same fight!”

“Minutemen, Nazis, KKK! Racists, fascists, go away!”

What an amazing display from students who attend an Ivy League School. Let the President of Columbia let him know how you feel, here. Folks, take a good look at these videos and read the live blogging events that took place. Ever wonder what side of the aisle does not want you heard? It is amazing sometimes the intolerance of those who claim they are the the tolerance movement.

Michelle Malkin also has a great round up of events.

Tiger Hawk, Universities constantly struggle with the question, who should be “allowed” to speak on campus?

Totally disgraceful, and yet they are so proud of themselves. Unfortunately, this is what passes for “education” in our most elite universities. It is truly shameful. This can’t even be called liberal or left-leaning. It is nothing but pure radical fascism. The Minutemen are not breaking any laws and have not shot any illegals they spotted crossing the border. They are watching from a distance and reporting to the Border Patrol when they spot illegals crossing the border. In other words, they are out there as American citizens doing what our government should be doing but won’t do. The Minutemen founder and some members were INVITED to the university by the College Republicans, and this is the treatment they received by these radical thugs masquerading as students. It is obvious Columbia University is not about educating at all but about indoctrinating. These pathetic idiots believe the U.S. has NO right whatsoever to enforce our own borders. They do not even believe in our right to HAVE borders apparently. Groups like this are always the first to scream “freedom of speech” when they spew their venom, but this is the way they respond to anyone whose ideas differ from theirs, which is approximately 99% of the American public. Apparently, freedom of speech only applies to them. Alumni should respond by withholding donations to the university, but I’m sure, being Columbia, the donations will pour in instead. Absolutely shameful is the only way to describe it.

I couldn’t say it any better than Ramlady. What a disgrace!

Being a political science major,I attended a lot of political speeches and events during my college years. Most of them I didn’t agree with, but we would have never dared to disgrace our school by showing complete intolerance toward hearing anything we disagreed with – Why does it seem that the so-called “ivy league” school condone this behavior?

Seems to me that the “elite schools” only exist to further an agenda that more and more seems to be about anything except education.

Why on the face of God’s green earth would ANYONE feign even the slightest surprise about this demonstration of intolerance, ignorance and hatred of the principles of free speech.

These “children” are just acting out what they feel in their hearts. How do you think Red China was so successful with the Cultural Revolution. The youth, of course. Same principle here.

Heaven forbid I should call these malcontents commies, I am Not. I do describe them as totalitarian in nature, however, and that’s that. There hasn’t been a two-way street of freedom of expression at Columbia since the Magna Carta, fer cryin’ out loud. Let the stupid “students” remain so. Minutemen are doing their job and do not need the intolerance of those cretins. March on!

[...] If you have not seen the despicable display by some Columbia University students who seem to have an issue with “Free Speech”, go here. [...]

This would never have happened at Dartmouth. GO GREEN!

We would all be very surprised what goes on at the Ivy League School these days. Some are going out of their way to enroll the Taliban, so they can say they have.

Some how that is supposed to be opening the demographic.

These colleges claims to stimulate thinking and learning. How is the stifeling of free speech stimulating anything? These people are the first to whine if they are not afforded the right of free speech. Hypocrits.

I am appalled as everyone with the display of emotionally charge behavior. It reminded of me how children escalate and go so mentally and physically out of control to get their way. Many of them will not remember what was said because of the intensity of their actions. It would not have mattered who was giving a speech, these children/adults? would behave the same. They are bullying individuals and groups and the administration. I beleive Columbia administration is at a lost, it is like a parent watching their child throw a tantrum and cannot do anything because they do not know how to stop it. I would suggest that the administration be aware because I am sure that alumni will show there confidence in their University by reducing their donations/funding….

“social inequalities are often produced and perpetuated through systematic discrimination and justified by societal ideology of merit, social mobility and individual responsibility.”
      Columbia’s Teachers College

Does anyone outside of academia really think that “individual responsibility” is a scourge upon our society?
