Dave Holloway Responds to the Boycott of Aruba in the Natalee Holloway Disappearance

During the second half of the Dave Holloway interview with Greta Van Susteren on November 11, 2005. Dave Holloway by all accounts has been even keeled and fair minded during this entire ordeal. Especially when you factor into account that his teenager daughter Natalee as gone missing and it would appear to many that it is up to the family to find leads and organize searches for her. One begins to understand a father’s frustration when they read the following from Dave:

Have they talked to this new witness yet? And they have not. I asked her what the reason was and she said: “Well, they’re trying to formulate some questions so they can call him in.” I’m thinking, what are they trying to do…coach him…or what? It seems like the same tactics they used with the boys. I just cannot believe it. I read on the internet that Paul was released and that they were going around trying to find witnesses who might come forward. And I’m thinking you already have a witness, why don’t you interview him? It just amazes me.

According to Dave Holloway is does not look like its just the family that is frustrated with this investigation. Would appear that some n Aruba are as well.

Well, yes. I have spoken with one of the assistant prosecutors and that’s one of the reasons she resigned. It was because the police would not follow-up on her suggestions as well. She became so frustrated that she had to call it quits. You have dissensions within the prosecutor’s office. You have police officers who for some reason or other don’t trust each other.

Can anyone blame anyone for becoming frustrated with the way this situation has been continually handled?

Greta: Earlier this week, the governor of Alabama called for a nationwide boycott of Aruba.
He demands that Aruba gives Natalee’s family answers and if they do not he urges Americans not to spend money in Aruba. Is the boycott having the intended effect? Dave before I discuss the boycott with you, I want to ask you a question. Sometime ago, I think it was the last time you were here you talked about a new witness that has surfaced in Aruba about your daughters disappearance. Any update?

Dave: Well you know we talked about this witness. When I was on the island the second day about three weeks ago the police came to me and we focused our attention on the ocean. They said they had a key witness that could possibly break this case. I talked about it last week on your show and I called my attorney this morning and said what’s the deal? Have they talked to this new witness yet? And they have not. I asked her what the reason was and she said: “Well, they’re trying to formulate some questions so they can call him in.” I’m thinking, what are they trying to do…coach him…or what? Greta: Is this a witness who’s simply an eyewitness or is this a witness who may be somehow involved in helping somebody get away with having done something to Natalee?

Dave: Well, you’ve probably said it there. It’s a witness that could possibly be involved.

Greta: So they have not bothered for lack of a better word to go out because they have not yet been able to formulate questions? We are now in the middle of November and she disappeared in May.

Dave: Well, yes. I have spoken with one of the assistant prosecutors and that’s one of the reasons she resigned. It was because the police would not follow-up on her suggestions as well. She became so frustrated that she had to call it quits. You have dissensions within the prosecutor’s office. You have police officers who for some reason or other don’t trust each other. You know, we came up with the bones. When I was on the island, I was questioned about what did we do with the evidence and I didn’t know…what did you do with the evidence? We found out a tourist had found a bone and gave it to the beach police.
The beach police, rather than giving it to the detective team gave it to some police commissioner. The rumor was they did not trust the detective team. We’ve heard that over and over and over again from various different sources. You have to wonder, who can you trust?

Greta: While we’re talking about evidence, the tapes…the audio and video tape of Deepak Kalpoe…have they come back? Have you gotten a report?

Dave: As of this morning, we haven’t heard anything. You know, those tapes were done Sept. 15th and here we are at Nov. 11th so you tell me what they are doing.

Greta: I want to go back to this key witness for a second. Any idea when police first got the name of this witness? About when?

Dave: They’ve had that name since the beginning Greta.

Greta: Your thought on the boycott?

Dave: Well, I’ve been passive on the boycott all along. I asked the governor to stay it until I could go and continue looking on the island. But after what happened today and all these other things….I’m at my wits end with everyone down there. I know the Aruban people elect their government and government officials and they depend on them to make decisions for them and for their island. Those government officials have spoken and they basically have made a backlash against the governor. I see him striking back, I see him submitting 49 letters to the other governors. We’ve had the run around from day one.
