It was a sad day Friday in Mountain Brook, AL as the “Wall of Hope” dedicated to missing teen Natalee Holloway was taken down. Friends and family did stress this is not the end and the searches are far from complete.
“Watching it come down does not mean this is over,” said Marcia Twitty, Holloway’s aunt. “It just means we’re in a new phase. We’re just working on what the next steps are.”
Marcia Twitty stated that the wall needed to be taken out of the weather as parts of it had begun to fade. Tom had noticed this as well when he made his trip to Birmingham, AL earlier this summer attending the Natalee Holloway fundraiser. The wall will be put in storage until it can be preserved. Still in a way it had to be an emotional moment to take a part the wall, the symbol of keeping hope alive for Natalee Holloway.
She said the wall was taken down to protect it from the weather, which was starting to fade and wash off some of the hundreds of notes and signatures. It will be stored in a downtown warehouse owned by Holloway’s parents and
friends until it can be restored and preserved. Her family said it could go on exhibit sometime in the future, but no arrangements have been made.
A note and yellow ribbon were left in its place at the entrance to the youth center at Mountain Brook Community Church. The wall went up June 8, just over a week after Holloway, 18, disappeared on a trip to Aruba with other recent graduates from Mountain Brook High School.
It was the brainstorm of Eddie Culpeper, who said he got involved because his daughter was on a trip to Mexico with students from Gardendale High at the time Holloway disappeared. Modeled after the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, it began as two painted plywood sheets topped with a photo of Holloway carved into black granite. Over the summer, it expanded five times. “It’s kind of sad,” Culpeper said as he helped dismantle his creation. “I wish there was some closure to this.”

i know it was sad to see the wall go down but dont you all think to keep on dwelling on this case only makes it more painfull?
all the false information the so call withnesses only add more grief
i think after four months its plain to see this may go unsolved

You may not be as smart as people who know you think you are since you have now revealed that the National Enquirer is part of your household reading literature.Dont you know those are for browsing while in the checkout stand at your local grocery store.You should be forgetting any info that you obtained from the National Enquirer while standing in line before you even attempt to start your car.
I am sure it was emotional for those involved in dismantling the Wall of Hope,but a plan to put it on exhibit in the future now thats a stretch there.
A lot of support shown by the signatures on that wall…probably needs to be taken down…but that must be a hard decision…glad it wasn’t mine.
Yes, sad the wall is down. But, that does not mean we should drop our support but in fact step it up.
The theory that drug dealers would come after Joran if he talks about where he got ecstasy and they helped dispose of Natalee is ridiculous. He did not use ecstasy on Natalee. He used something cheaper, legal in Aruba and his mother probably takes it as a sedative. Its called ROHYPNOL ten times stronger then vallium, made in Switzerland and Illegal in the USA. It is the latest date rape drug called “roofies” or “the forget me pill”. When mixed with alcohol it will take effect within twenty minutes, cause lapses of semi consciousness, (“We all had sex with Natalee coming in and out of consciouness”) lowers sexual inhibitions, respiratory depression and possible death. Usually the one who administered the drug will volunteer to escort (help) the victim home once the female becomes disoriented. Didn’t we hear this from Joran describing how Natalee acted that night. Unfortunately the drug dissipates within 72 hours and then will not show up in any tests. Joran kiss your ass good-bye. We’re getting closer.

The wall is down, but the hope is high.
That is just one more sad element of this horrible situation! I hope some creative person comes up with a way to preserve the board.
