Van Der Sloot has Hearing, no Results yet
ORANJESTAD, Aruba — A Dutch suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway was summoned to court today for a hearing on whether to prolong his detention or release him.
Authorities led Joran van der Sloot, 18, through a back door of the courthouse for the closed hearing. He is scheduled to be held until Sept. 4, but prosecutors say they have filed a motion to detain him another 30 days.
In order to extend van der Sloot’s detention, prosecutors must offer additional evidence against the teen. It was unclear when the judge would rule.
Van der Sloot was arrested June 9 along with two friends, Surinamese nationals Satish Kalpoe, 18, and Deepak Kalpoe, 21, on suspicion of involvement in Holloway’s disappearance.
