Paul Van Der Sloot Questioned By Judge & Days Updates

According to CNN, Aruban judge questioned in missing teen case

Police questioned Saturday an Aruba judge, whose son is a suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, a law enforcement source close to the investigation said.

Paul Van Der Sloot is the father of 17-year-old Joran Van Der Sloot, one of the last people to see Holloway alive early May 30.

On Friday Judge Bob Wit ruled that the elder Van Der Sloot could not visit his son in jail, but that the boy’s mother may.

From Fox News: Three suspects are going to prison. So far one of the suspects, Deepak Kalpoe, has been sent to the prison on Aruba. The other two will probably be sent their over the weekend.

One of the three suspects being held in Aruba for the disappearance of an Alabama teen vacationing there has been moved from a jail to a prison, while the other two are expected to be transported today, two sources confirmed with FOX News.

A judge ruled last night that Deepak Kalpoe, who was moved to a prison last night, Satish Kalpoe and Joran van der Sloot can be held for eight more days while the investigation into Natalee Holloway’s disappearance continues.

MSNBC, Aruba judge extends detention of three men

A judge on Saturday ordered the teenage son of a prominent justice official and two of his friends to stay in jail for at least another week while investigators search for clues in the disappearance of a young Alabama woman.

A disc jockey on an Aruban tourist party boat who also has been detained in the case was to appear before a judge Monday, the attorney general’s spokeswoman Mariaine Croes said as the search for 18-year-old Natalee Holloway neared the end of three weeks.

While the search for Natalee Holloway has been followed closely by print and broadcast journalists, the story also has received an abundance of attention from bloggers.

Every new development – and the wildest of speculations about what happened to the 18-year-old Mountain Brook High School graduate last seen in Aruba May 30 – have appeared on blogs and Web forums. Blogs, short for Web logs, are Internet journals.

Several blogs, normally devoted to politics or pop culture, have featured nothing but reports of the search for Holloway. Here are some blogs and what they are saying:

Scared Monkeys, a blog operated by Red and Tom has posted multiple daily updates on the search since May 30. Before the teen vanished, the blog had been following the confirmation proceedings of President Bush’s judicial nominees.

A June 12 post drew 1,349 comments.

Red said he began following the story because he once lived in Aruba.

“I felt connected to the story,” he said in an interview by e-mail. “I have seen so many people blame everyone, including Natalee’s parents, for allowing her to go at 18. At that age, I was there and nothing happened.”

He said the first few posts drew heavy traffic to his site and soon he started receiving tips and being referenced in mainstream news reports.

“We went from reporting the story to becoming personally involved in this mystery,” he said.

Riehl World View, a politically conservative blog operated by Dan Riehl, 47, of New Jersey, has closely monitored the search and media coverage.

Morning Update; Natalee Holloway June 18, 2005

From MSNBC some more information and video regarding Steve Gregory Croes, A party boat DJ was arrested in connection with the disappearance in Aruba of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway.

A party boat disc jockey was detained Friday on suspicion of being involved in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, who vanished nearly three weeks ago while celebrating her high school graduation, authorities and his employer said.

Steve Gregory Croes, whom authorities earlier identified only by the initials S.G.C., said he was contacted by police Thursday night and went to the station voluntarily to give a statement, said his employer, Marcus Wiggins.

Croes was the fourth person detained in the May 30 disappearance of Holloway, 18. Croes also said he knew one of two Surinamese brothers being detained in the case because they went to the same Internet cafe, Wiggins told The Associated Press.

Croes was a DJ on the Tattoo, which offers nightly dining, dancing and swimming, Wiggins said.

“I’ve never had problems with him,” Wiggins told the AP. “He keeps to himself and shows up to work every day and does his job.”

Wiggins also said he had not seen the other three young men detained in the case on the boat.

The Birmingham News:

A disc jockey on an Aruban tourist party boat was detained Friday in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, making him the fourth person held by police since the honors student vanished last month.

Meanwhile, Holloway’s mother said she believed there might be more arrests before the case was resolved, although she expressed increasing frustration with the pace of the investigation. Beth Holloway Twitty also held onto hope that her 18-year-old daughter, last seen May 30, was still alive.

In an interview with Associated Press Television News, Holloway Twitty said she believed there might be more arrests before the case was resolved. She did not elaborate.

“This is just the beginning,” she said.

Looking tired and angry, Holloway Twitty, 44, said she was unhappy with the progress of the investigation.

“This case is not that hard to figure out,” she said. “Those boys have the answers.”

Holloway Twitty has said that if investigators do not make progress soon, she might start believe they are trying to protect the detainees.

“We are in day 18 with no answers,” she said Friday. “I want my daughter and I want her now.”

Holloway Twitty said she would “believe my daughter is alive until I find out otherwise.”

Evening Update: Aruba Judge Extends Detention of 3 Men

A judge on Saturday ordered the teenage son of a prominent justice official and two of his friends to stay in jail for at least another week while investigators search for clues in the disappearance of a young Alabama woman.

A disc jockey on an Aruban tourist party boat who also has been detained in the case was to appear before a judge Monday, the attorney general’s spokeswoman Mariaine Croes said as the search for 18-year-old Natalee Holloway neared the end of three weeks.

Under Dutch law, which Aruba follows as a Dutch protectorate, authorities can detain individuals for up to 116 days without filing formal charges. A judge must review the case after the first 10 days, and then periodically after that.

She has not been found, but investigators refused to say if they thought Holloway was dead. Her mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, has said she will continue to believe Holloway is alive until she has proof otherwise.

The judge on Saturday extended the detention of Joran van der Sloot, 17, and brothers, Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18, for eight days, Croes said.

A fourth man who was detained Friday was identified by his boss as Steve Gregory Croes, a 26-year-old disc jockey on a privately owned party boat. He was arrested early Friday, a day after being contacted by police and giving them a statement, the boat’s owner Marcus Wiggins told The Associated Press. The detainee is not related to the attorney general’s spokeswoman.
