Riehl World has some updates.
Just had a communication from Aruba - search dogs have gotten a “hit” in quarry near the Van der Sloot house, dive team being rounded up.
On Fox News, Angela Munzenhofer from Aruba Today, say that she spoke with Steven Croes, and that he says all he did was over hear a conversation that Deepak was having on the telephone. He went to the police to tell them and was arrested.
UPDATE:: We have word from multiple sources that divers are in the water at a quarry near the Van Der Sloots home. There are evidence flags up around the area. We will post as more information is available.

Not really, except that the search at the reservoirs have not turn anything yet; that NH parents are pissed off because they let Paul van der Sloot go. I guess they want somebody to pay at all cost, because aparently there is no evidence against this man.
Also, more people are now taking into consideration the kidnapping possibility and the possibility that the tree boys in prison are not responsible for any harm done to her, even if they lied, changed stories and stuff.

Question for everyone, if they don’t find Natalee, and the boys walk, will all the evidence involved in the case will be released?
If it’s not, do you think there will be add’t pressure from the US in order to push the issue?
I’m just thinking that if they come forward and say “joran did it, we’re putting him in prison for her murder” or “we’re letting them all go, there is no evidence or body to hold them for” it won’t end there.

I don’t think they will release the evidence, because they are big on preserving reputations. Something we in the US never take into consideration.

Anne, I’m with you. I’m not a cowboy American or an Aruba basher but this just won’t end if they come to a conclusion and try and brush it under the rug sans providing evidence. Beyond the horror for the family of no resolution, and the initial hit to tourism already, so much interest in this case will not just die, and if they don’t provide the info, that island will never be the same.

Why would you call your buddy while you are drunk on the way home at 2:40, and then text message him to say you “got home ok”, it’s not your Mom your calling, it’s your buddy. Just does not make sense.

Why at 2:40 am, if you’re a popular drinker, gambler (ladies man maybe) and man about town, would you walk 40 minutes home.

Frances Ellen Byrd said that she saw Natalee with Joran as early as 9:30 at CnC so that conflicts with the story that dad dropped Joran off at McDonalds at 11:00.
If he killed herand his dad was helping him of course he knew that joran would need an alabi.

IM is to tell Kalpoes he is now home (not to worry). they just happen to weave the times, the text messaging, and the call into a simple story which they are sticking to.
Hmmm..wow I was just watching Fox and got to see them talk to Croes at his home. Did anyone else see it and if you did, do you think that alot they were seen on camera look like “crackheads?” Was a scary looking bunch and I am not trying to be rude. They surely didn’t look like they had the same quality of life as the Vds and the Kalpoes

We’ve already established per Joran that he “snuck out”, not that he needed to with an attached apartment. First time he snuck out, doubt it. And we’re talking about a teenager on aruba who is possibly driving underage, drinking underage, and gambling. Probably a little different from your boys.
So in that one night, he’s at Carlos & Charlies, Lighthouse, on beach, driving around, McDonald’s, sneaking out, walking home at 2:40. Awful lot going on that night.
I think there is a thread of truth to theirr original story. I do believe they took Natalee to the lighthouse. I think they raped her and murdered at that location. I do not believe that Joran would take her to the beach near the Marriott due to the possibility of others strolling the beach. I think the three boys disposed of her body within a 10 mile radius of either the light house or Joran’s home. I don’t see them calling dad for help. I think they agreed upon the lighthouse/ Holiday Inn story because they did not consider the surveillance cameras. Dad probably came into the picture the night the Holloways showed up. Between now and then the body could have been moved.

I think what Shango and Simian are saying is that a underground rave party was where the 4 went (kalpoes, jvds, nh). drugs and other vices were involved including xtc. this leads to many tangled webs as the drug dealers and polis are friendly with one another. if the “one” speaks out he will bring down the entire operation. The polis and the drug dealers have enough (or at least they hope) pull to keep the truth from coming out.

What I mant was that the possibilities of Natalee being killed and dispossed of around the Holiday Inn have been eliminated. She is reportedly on video at the kaseeno with the group of people she partied with during the days before. Her boyfriend from the initial three days is supposed to be a piece of work that rapidly brushed Joran off when he arrived with her at some party.
The Kalpoes were not even at C N’C. They merely provided a ride to Joran and Natalee and even if they took them to the light house, they dropped them off in front of the Marriott. Some reports indicate that phone records show that Joran did not have enough time to commit the crime, and get rid of the body, etc.

I’ve been following posts on this site and on websleuths for a few days. Not watching the various newscasts, these two sites have helped me to understand more about the Natalee Hollaway disappearance.
As a newcomer, I would like to offer a few thoughts, for what they’re worth. My interest in this case is as a mother, a woman, a fellow US citizen, and simply another human being. Researching this case has definitely changed my view of the desirability and the safety of those tropical vacations and cruises I’ve considered signing my family onto. That will not be happening now.
Kidnappings and sells into the slave trade do most definitely happen. The Amy Bradley (unsure if that’s exactly correct name) case is a chilling example. She was 23 yrs. old and with her family. In a 30 minute timespan she simply vanished. Ths cruise ship docked despite family pleas to first search the ship and question passengers. The company, according to the family, did absolutely nothing to help them then or since.
Reports have come in of sightings of her in a brothel, but that’s another story. Previously I thought that the targeted victims would be alone, vulnerable, unlikely to be quickly missed. But that wasn’t the case with Amy or with the single travel reporter from the US who simiply vanished a few year ago, I think in Aruba as well. Amy’s mother reported recently that the bar that a ship waiter wanted to take Amy offship to in Aruba was the same bar that Natalee was last seen leaving.
I have no doubt that some bartenders spike women’s drinks for various purposes. Could this have happened to Natalee? It’s certainly possible and as a mother with no body of my missing daughter that possibility would torment me.
Did J set up Natalee for his own pleasure, for the pleasure of he and his “friends”, or for money for whatever reasons? If he was involved in any dealings with a cartel then he, his father, and the other two men are right to be scared.
Personally, however, the whole situation smacks too much of bumbling and fumbling to have been an elaborate setup. I am more inclined to think that her drink may have been drugged and that she may have been tricked into leaving with them. Or she may have wanted to visit a party house but was too far gone to protect herself. With no report back on the panties/condoms that were found, then it’s impossible to judge which scenario is more likely.
Did she go voluntarily and get in over her head or was she kidnapped from the point of leaving the bar? We may never know. If a cartel is involved then no one is going to talk. As many of you have pointed out, a prison sentence is prefarable to that.
If Joran and/or the other two are solely responsible for her disappearance then they are obviously holding out because there is no body. IF the Aruban officials are having a lot of heat from above, then someone will have to take a fall, whether or not they are the only one responsible. But are they feeling true heat or simply biding their time before releasing the remaining suspects? That’s the biggest question in my mind.
The Aruban police were nonchalant and dismissive initially to her parents. That’s why I won’t be travelling to any of these countries and definitely will not be allowing my daughter to travel there. A lot more serious activity than the type of partying that most of us probably remember from high school and college days is commonplace there. That’s clear from this case. It’s not anywhere as safe as we’ve been thinking. I’ve read on tripadvisor that unescorted girls and women are harassed by the men in bars, that they are very aggressive. These kids were out of their element and in much more danger than any of them realized. It’s a tragic instruction for the rest of us.
I admire NH’s mom for her strength and her persistence. I’d be setting up residence in Aruba until I got the answers I came for. And I hope she does the same.

According to CNN, Deepak’s lawyer is stating that the cell phone records show Joran called Deepak at 2:40 - and then texted him again 40 minutes later - the approximate time it takes to walk from the beach to Joran’s house. Thought - what if Joran convinced/asked or talked Natalee in going to his house (since his Mom was away and he has his own “apartment”)? And if that is the case, maybe that explains why they might have thought they had a “hit” near the quarry.

One of two things is going on. Either a break in the case is imminent or they are back to square one. The release of papa VS doesnt bode well. It may very well be that the authorities cannot disprove the current story being given by the three in custody. The cell phone records have confirmed the the time of the calls/text message, which fits in their timeline story. If there is no forensic proof to the contrary, they will go free without a body. That reality is hitting home with the family. The currents around the island are very strong. If she was put in the ocean, at this late date, she will never be found.

One other thing - the fact that these “boys” were perfectly willing to set up two men (the security guards) from the “working” class and that the Aruban police quicly and confidently barged in on these two men says a lot about the system there, socially and legally.

Checkme - How confident are you in your theory about NH being kidnapped or hurt at a party being hosted by the Columbians? Is it an alternate theory or a predominant one in your mind?
Also, do the Columbians control you guys that much in Aruba? If so, I feel sad for you people that you have to turn the other way in light of such heinous crimes (murder, human sex and drug trafficking). Sure, we have the same crimes and the mafia in the U.S., but we also have people with some courage, which appears to be lacking in this case.
My heart goes out to my “neighbors” from Alabama. Whatever befell this beautiful young girl is only made worse by the constant speculation. Also - the reports indicating that Joran did not have enough time to commit a crime and dispose of the body are confusing. There has been no body found - therefore no time of death - so how could they know if there was “time to commit a crime”. Natalee could have fallen asleep at Joran’s - passed out in her sleep and not waken up. Who knows. Until her body is found (hopefuly alive) - there are too many unanswered questions and too many opportunities for speculation.

cbudd, yes, I too thought about this. I think that Dad may have seen her at the house. Which also might explain why the boys would lie about where they dropped Natalee. It just has always seemed odd that he states that he left her alone at the beach. Why would he need to collaborate with the other boys on where he left her. Why was the need to distance himself as much as possible from the location of where she was last seen. One of the boys has stated “something bad happened” - which on its own can mean one hundred million different things - but I think this - if Joran was the one who said “something bad happened” - he is deflecting. If one of the brothers stated “something bad happened” - then perhaps it is because the next day in conversation Joran told them what happened. Again - so much to speculate.

Hi — Just for the record, I’m the Anne who was responding the past few days in cryptic posts. Not the “anne” who said Alabama people will take care of Joran. I’m the one who talked with Kris and Kristin in chat, as well, a few days ago, and answered the “hammer and block” thing. Just so everyone’s clear, I changed my name to AnnaMaria to avoid confusion.
The analogy to OJ is not a good one. In OJ, they had a trial, presented evidence, but the jury decided not to believe a white racist police department investigating a high-profile person with an investigation filled w/ mistakes — but at least they had a trial and witnesses spoke up.
The Aruba situation is different - although they have not yet found her, no person with a reasonable mind can say that she is either dead or was kidnapped - she did not just voluntarily walk away. Theories have floated — Juron killed her, or someone kidnapped her (Columbians or whoever), or maybe she’s sold into slavery. Yet, rather than tipping off the police, the locals and Aruban and Dutch loyalists on here simply defend the VDS family or hide behind the veil that they cannot turn in the Columbians (or the real “bad people”) — why the need for the code language above?
How would you guys react if your own daugther suffered this fate.

I think there is a thread of truth to theirr original story. I do believe they took Natalee to the lighthouse. I think they raped her and murdered at that location. I do not believe that Joran would take her to the beach near the Marriott due to the possibility of others strolling the beach. I think the three boys disposed of her body within a 10 mile radius of either the light house or Joran’s home. I don’t see them calling dad for help. I think they agreed upon the lighthouse/ Holiday Inn story because they did not consider the surveillance cameras. Dad probably came into the picture the night the Holloways showed up. Between now and then the body could have been moved.
That is an absolte posibility. That just gave me a whole new thought. If you are reading this have you told the police officers your idea and if so have you suggested that they search that area? Have they searched it? If so, that would be spectacular, do you think that the body could have drifted out to see? If so we will probably have no hope of finding her. Innocent people want to offer evidence to their innocence. Tom, Red, and all the loyal Scared Monkey Bloggers (Riehl World Bloggers, too) who have been following Natalee Halloway’s disappearance… It is my sincere hope that upon conclusion of this matter everyone involved here can focus on finding/uncovering the truth about the disappearance of Amy Bradley. The power of blogging has been an instrumental part of binging to light the truth behind what happened to NH and I hope that it can now be focused on helping the Bradley family with their plight. As we all can attest to, blogging in 1998 was not what it is today, so hopefully blogging can play an integral part in this other disappearance of a young American woman in South America.

My response? Because it would require implicating people who he is terrified of - a psycho violent drug dealer and possibly someone in the polis

When I refered to the Arabs, I did because in one of his long poems, Shango makes reference to the Sumerians. So I asummed that. I understand the leading business people in Aruba and Curazao, are very richly rich families of either Arab or Jewish origins, established there for centuries.
