Why is this a news story?? Why don’t we cover all the kids in urban neighborhoods who go missing every single day? Why must we only give air time to the good looking chicks?

    7. Dawn on June 11th, 2005 12:07 am

I don’t know about the rest of you – but the Van Der Sloot kid looks like trouble. His smile indicates he’s a little cocky and a little too sure of himself. This doesn’t surprise me – I knew she couldn’t have still been alive after all of this time. My prayers are with her family and friends.

I know who confessed – Van Der Sloot…..I just have the feelin….

      RIP Natalee too

Kevin, are you serious? Do you not see why this is a “news story”? It’s an more than even just a news story…. it’s an international kidnapping, and now, murder, story.

On another note: I am very thankful for this website for bringing us this key breaking news. I am right here in Birmingham and this was the FIRST place to report the news… the local stations were about 15 minutes behind. Your site is an asset to it’s readers and you have certainly gained a loyal reader in me. Thank you.

RIP Natalee, my prayers are with her family.

    15. Jim on June 11th, 2005 12:18 am

Tragic ending and certainly prayers go to the family. I had a feeling these 3 guys were up to no good and their story never seemed to fit. I’m guessing the FBI had a lot to do with cracking the kid, as the Aruban Police looked pathetically lost.

    16. Brenda on June 11th, 2005 12:18 am

      Thanks, Tom.

I can’t believe it’s true. I kept hoping it would turn out differently but i did have a bad feeling when i saw this guys picture.

    22. Jim on June 11th, 2005 12:23 am

Sorry arubagirl. You arrested two guys originally who it looks like had nothing to do with this murder at all. These guys had alibis and arguably nothing to do with the case. Their picture was plastered all over the place and their lives have been forever changed. Meanwhile, your police force is letting the 3 kids who last saw her alive go free, even though their story of dropping her off was clearly a lie.

Spot on police work from Aruba, it’s a good thing you guys don’t have to deal with too many murders.

    23. shellfromAL on June 11th, 2005 12:25 am

why are yall telling jim to shut up he is absolutely right

    24. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 12:26 am

Jim, you mean like they didn’t arrest Scott Peterson initially? I guess you know the island pretty well to pass such judgement on the cops.

    25. concerned on June 11th, 2005 12:27 am

maybe the 2 security guard helped dispose of her body? Jim what do You know huh?

    26. Slice on June 11th, 2005 12:29 am

I live on Aruba, and no offense but I have to say that Jim was right, the police here was completely useless. They kept 2 completely innocent men in jail way longer than neccesary without any evidence, and the REAL culprits got to go free…well basically that’s what Jim said but I really agree wholeheartedly and I apologize on behalf of…well, myself. I mean, you can’t blame a everybody for everything that happens in a country, but the police force…. I am really just… disgusted.

    27. Deadhead420 on June 11th, 2005 12:30 am

While I am sad to hear that Natalee may have been murdered, I still have to wonder who in the hell let’s their 18 year old daughter go on a trip to a foreign nation, especially in the time we are currently living in? Whether or not there were 7 chaperones, let’s be real. Those chaperones were out partying themselves and not keeping an eye on the kids the were charged to watch. If anything, those 7 adults who were chaperoning should be charged with involuntary manslaughter in Alabama. I feel for her family and friends and can’t even begin to imagine what they are going through, but she should have never been there in the first place. God bless you Natalee, may you now rest in peace.

    28. Tom on June 11th, 2005 12:31 am

Say a prayer for Natalee and her family. The time for argueing is later . but right now just be loving and caring. This is a tough one

      Tom

    29. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 12:31 am

Slice, I also live in Aruba, and while I didn’t think that there was hard evidence to keep the sec. guards locked up, that doesn’t mean that the cops had no idea what they were doing. I mean, if one of them confessed, they knew what they were doing, right? Wasn’t that the endgoal of their arrest?

    30. Slice on June 11th, 2005 12:33 am

Yeah, but unneccesarily keeping people who had nothing to do with it imprisoned longer than the actual culprits is pretty appalling. Especially when u think of how they get nothing in return for the crap they’ve been through. I’ve heard of stepping on toes, but this is ridiculous.

    31. Jim on June 11th, 2005 12:35 am

They didn’t arrest two completely innocent people in the Scott Pederson case who had nothing to do with it. Trust me, those 2 security guards will be released real soon.

You have to wonder if it was a frame job on those security guards until the FBI stepped in. The kid had a very wealthy and prestigous family in the country, and perhaps that is how things work over there.

Perhaps the Aruban police is real good, but this is a case that would have been open and shut in about 20 minutes in New York. This wasn’t rocket science. Three guys take drunk girl. Girl disappears. Hmmmm……

I’ll bet that they find her body right by the lighthouse, which will continue to show the ineptness of the police department.

Sorry for the comments, the whole case is just disgusting to me. I have a 17 year old daughter and this stuff hits close to home.

    32. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 12:35 am

As for the security guards, if indeed it turns out that they had nothing to do with this, they should demand a public apology. I would say sue their asses, but not too sure that they’d be succesful.

    33. concerned on June 11th, 2005 12:37 am

you are right Tom, I’m praying for Natalee’s family…

    34. Jim on June 11th, 2005 12:37 am

They are reporting here in the states that the guy didn’t confess to the murder, but said that “something bad happened”. I guess the AP is pulling back the story that she was said to be murdered, although it looks very likely.

    35. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 12:39 am

Here’s the thing. I know this sounds retarded but – the security guards were innocent. They knew they were innocent AND they knew that their innocence could be proven based on the security CAMERAS… so while it sucks for them and affects their lives greatly, they didnt get sent to jail for years for doing something wrong, or locked away for life. They had a few days, and they basically sat there and said “it wasnt us, we can prove it” and they proved it ~ which helps narrow down the suspects.

The thing is, b/c there were security tapes available from the Holiday Inn, it was probably known 3 days ago that the security guards were innocent, but b/c of the high profileness of the case they didnt want to say anything. There are a lot of factors that go into things like this. For example: clearly someone blamed the security guards in order to get the pressure off themselves. If that person thought they were in the clear, then they are more likely to slip up on their own defense or cover up, which is why – a LOT of the time – even when it is known that someone is innocent that information isnt released until it is absolutely necessary that it be released.

    36. Dee on June 11th, 2005 12:39 am

Just read on another site that from a reliable source that the person responsible is leading them to her body and that Joran is reported not to be in his cell.

    37. InAlabama on June 11th, 2005 12:39 am

Our local news is now saying they IDed massive amounts of her blood in the trunk of the guy’s car (DNA tested) and that the family was brought in earlier and left the police station visibly upset.

    38. Jim on June 11th, 2005 12:40 am

I would also like to say that it isn’t necessarily murder yet. “Something bad” could mean many different things. Perhaps she was given a drug that killed her, perhaps she fell off something, perhaps she went out for a swim and drowned. I know that isn’t likely, but you can’t assume that they physically murdered her yet.

    39. Tom on June 11th, 2005 12:41 am

Look at the post ,,, many updates ,,, this is very fluid

    40. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 12:42 am

I feel so terrible for her family. This whole time I’ve been following the story hoping that she just ran away or got lost or whatever.

I just turned 18 years old. I just graduated from HS. And while I don’t personally know or have any connection what so ever to Natalee Holloway, I feel as though – had the circumstances been different, it could have been one of my friends, cousins, neighbors, sisters, or even myself. It’s strange how a story that has NOTHING to do with me (I live in MA) and has no connection to me what so ever could hit so close to home.

    41. Dee on June 11th, 2005 12:44 am

Natalee Holloway: Local Source – Joran Not In Cell
Amid reports that one of those arrested will lead police to the body tonight I have received a reliable report from a local source in Aruba that Joran Van der Sloot is not in his cell at this time.

While that does not confirm Joran Van der Sloot is the individual that confessed, the information was passed on in a manner suggesting it is quite possible that is why he is not currently in his cell. Developing

    42. Deadhead420 on June 11th, 2005 12:44 am

You’re all missing the point…she kids at 18 don’t need to go on trips out of the country. I know what I did when out of the country as a teen and I will never let my kids go on a trip, especially in today’s political climate and dissent for Americans.

      DeadHead -
So basically you’re saying that “kids” shouldn’t be allowed out of the country b/c of what you did. For all you know she was FORCED into a car or dragged or drugged – which… just in case you were not aware, could happen anywhere. In fact, it happens here – in the United States about 10 times a day. Aruba was probably the safest place they could have gone… it has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Have you seen the statistics, there was something like 2 murders in Aruba last year. 2… that’s a negligable amount in most other countries, specifically the US.

Also – if people don’t go out of the country when they’re young, then the likely hood of them going when they’re older is slim. I’ve been out of the country many times … I’m 18 years old. But I’m careful, and I do what I’m told – I don’t go wandering off on my own… but as careful as I am it would be completely possible for some big guy to carry me off. I’m 5’2″ 120lbs… basically any guy over the age of 15 would be able to drag me away, regardless of how hard I was fighting. Restricting people and not allowing teenagers to go out of the country is basically saying “be afraid of everything, don’t expand your horizons and be socially and culterally unaware”

    60. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 12:50 am

    64. Tex on June 11th, 2005 12:51 am

When a girl goes missing for two weeks there usually isn’t a good ending. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends, and to the chaparones who will feel overwhelming guilt the rest of their lives. People should also take this time to think about all the other evil that goes on in this world, all the other people missing or dead in every country…Of course this gets more spotlight, but take advantage of this to help with finding peace.

However, he was so unemotional and detached from everything that it was either that he was guilty and didn’t care what he had done, or had been through so much that he had no emotion left – although I doubt it’s the later.

Maybe we can quit namecalling for a second and try and keep each other posted on the latest news.

    82. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 12:58 am

Right right ~ no Scott talk. We’re here for Natalee right now.

      :-\

    83. Slice on June 11th, 2005 12:59 am

Yes, since I’ve been born. How’d you know? Well even though I AM an Aruban, a lot of things happen here that shouldn’t, big and small… but that’s the case everywhere, I guess.

    84. Fun in Aruba on June 11th, 2005 12:59 am

oooohhhhhh something bad just happened to Natlee… well thank god for that….
I thought the Arubains KILLED HER…… glade that cleared up………….

    85. K Mak on June 11th, 2005 1:00 am

Look, three teenagers leave a bar with a naive young girl. She’s missing the next morning. They say they had consensual sex with her and dropped her off at her hotel an hour after they left the bar. But the beach they claim they went to is twenty minutes away and the security cameras at the hotel don’t show her coming back. They say some “dark skinned” security guards took her from them. And the Aruban police arrest two black security guards who weren’t even there that night?? Ten days later they arrest the three boys and my bet is, that it was the FBI who made Joran sing, not the Aruban police who were probably asking for tips on the best drinks at Carlos and Charlies.

This is such a tragedy any way you slice it, but the suffering of the parents has been extended way beyond what any parent should have to endure. And now their Natalee’s body is decomposed probably beyond recognition.

    86. LocalFemale on June 11th, 2005 1:00 am

i just wanted to make a point since you blame our cops for not doing there job

to this point aruba is going out of there mind
because cnn and other press from US and the world seem to say that she is dead
      because it hasn’t been confirmed

    87. Tom on June 11th, 2005 1:01 am

I will delete all Scott Peterson talk going forward. this is about Natalee

    88. Jim on June 11th, 2005 1:02 am

LocalFemale, our media is very good. I’m certain they have a good source within the FBI telling them this information. A lot of times the media picks up on stuff before the family even finds out. CNN isn’t a news source that just makes stuff up. They have very good connections.

Do you know something, K Mak and Fun in Aruba? Most Arubans don’t go around bashing the police force of a country that is not ours or that we don’t live in, so how about you do the same, okay?

    94. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 1:06 am

America is the only country in which someone is Innocent until proven Guilty – fyi. They can arrest you for anything, and unless you can prove 100% that you are innocent they can hold you there for … I believe 160 days.

    95. LocalFemale on June 11th, 2005 1:06 am

accectly so not because they are arrested means they are guilty

    96. K Mak on June 11th, 2005 1:06 am

But Aruba got pressure to “let the FBI help” and last I heard there were THIRTEEN FBI agents in Aruba. I doubt they were working on their tans.

      anybody watching msnbc?

    98. K Mak on June 11th, 2005 1:07 am

I feel bad for Natalee, her parents, Mountain Brook and Aruba. All of these people/places will feel the affects of a foolish act.

That’s because she was an American Citizen. It was of American concern.
Had the FBI not become involved, people would be saying “why didnt they do anything, blah blah blah”.

    103. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 1:08 am

It seems that they are going to Canashito, which is sort of a rock quarry. During the massive search (the one where the civil servants got off), they spotted suspcious activity by a white van in the area. The cops went to check it out, but found nothing.

    104. Slice on June 11th, 2005 1:08 am

Aruba is and should be glad they got the help, no doubt about that.

Courtney, trust me when I tell you this, I don’t think any american tourist that ever disappeard in the WHOLE Caribbean got this much attention.

    109. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 1:10 am

I was reading earlier about a girl that disappeared in 1997 or something in the Caribbean… and they never found her. And apparently people have seen her since she went missing, in like a brothel or something – but they are just coming out about it now b/c they didnt know who she was when she was saying like “I need help” b/c the case didn’t get much attention.

I believe I read it on… MSN… maybe? Or the CNN Arhives. Someone was interviewing the parents of the girl who went missing and relating it to Natalee’s case.

    110. K Mak on June 11th, 2005 1:12 am

The reporters should be running over to Canoshita. They could probably find the body before the police.

While many of us look upon this as a tragedy I am assured that you are in a far better place! This boy as well as all of those who so selfishly take the lives of others will pay for the things they have done……If the justice system doesnt handle I know someone who will…..And so do you natalee….You were brought to this world as and angel and now you leave as one….My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of such a beautifull girl , to young to die!!!!

Wait… I just realised something.. wtf? Something bad has happened to her? Is that the actual statement? Whaaaa?!

    116. BamaMom on June 11th, 2005 1:13 am

As one must guess by now, I agree with Deadhead. Those kids had no business going on the trip in the first place, especially with only seven chaperones who were so self-absorbed (another site has links to a pic of one of the chaperones funneling beer at a bar) that they did not know she was missing until the next day. There is a certain amount of blame in this situation that lies with the parents who allowed her to go, and with the chaperones who were obviously negligent in their duties. That may sound harsh, but it is true. How we all wish Mrs. Twitty had heeded her “bad vibe” before the trip, and kept Natalee at home . I can only imagine her pain, and I am praying for strength and comfort for her family. Parents need to stop thinking that it is cute for their kids to play “grown-up” in situations like this, and learn to “just say NO”. Natalee is safe in the arms of God now. May she rest in peace.

Local, why do you keep downplaying this story? I understand it doesn’t look good on Aruba, but you are just posting false information. The story is being run on every major news outlet in the states. CNN, Fox News, MSNBC. It is on every major new site in the country.

I doubt the police have gone to sleep, and I’m sure they are out looking for the body as we type. I understand your national pride, but let’s not let that have you make up stuff.

    124. NoDumbBunny on June 11th, 2005 1:15 am

Hi all – reading this site all day & “lurking” – now I feel compelled to “speak” -

arubagirl is right that Natalee is getting LOADS of media attention – why?? Mountain Brook is an *extremely* wealthy area in Alabama (FYI: Courtney Cox was a “Brookie”)

Beautiful, wealthy, blonde, good scholar – no history of trouble – disappears *poof* while on her dream HS graduation trip? Media is on that like flies on honey….it is ideal fodder for their news hungry masses in this day of instant media gratification b/c of the internet, improved communications, etc. It’s truly sad – so many other stories get little or no attention and to their families they are just as important.

As an Alabama native AND a mother of a 2005 HS graduate (son) who just retruned safely from a trip – my heart goes out to Natalee’s family. May God bless and comfort them in the trying days to come.

    125. LocalFemale on June 11th, 2005 1:16 am

So far I can’t find any US news backing off of the story. Most are saying that he is leading them to the body now. I don’t know how true that is, but all are still reporting that either he confessed to murder or confessed “something bad happened”. I hope it is not true that the parents learned of this on the news!

Did anyone EVER consider that the picture of the chaparone funneling was photo-shopped? Or that Natalee snuck out, or was out past the curfew or something? You can not place it solely on the chaparones. I mean – she was a straight A student w/ a full ride to college… so what was she doing ALONE with 3 boys in a foreign country that she had never met before? Yes. The Chaparones were NOT doing a good job, but honestly – she was doing something wrong. Even if she wasnt drunk, and she didn’t sneak out, and she told someone where she was doing and they said it was ok – she should NOT have been alone by herself with three boys she had never met, in a place that she was completely unfamiliar with.

I have lived in the same town my entire life. Its one of the safest towns in the state of Massachusetts – we practically have a negative crime rate.. and you would never find me wandering around in the middle of the night on my own – EVER.

The blame has to be placed on a lot of people. Not just the Chaparones, not just her parents (although, they put their trust and the safety of their daughter in the hands of someone else, they were assured that she would be safe and sound – and this trip had run for 5 years previously with no incident… they had no reason to doubt she would be alright, adn even if her mother did have a “bad vibe” ~ if everyone heeded their bad vibes everyone would live their lives in their beds with their heads tucked under the covers)

You can acces all radiostations from Aruba on http://www.arubadag.com
Though even CNN and other US newsmedia brought it , officialy it is not confirmed by local authorithies in Aruba.

Arubagirl and others are just writing down what they hear on their local stations.

    190. LocalFemale on June 11th, 2005 1:41 am

      as far as information go
it is still believed she is alive

    191. Jay on June 11th, 2005 1:41 am

“something bad happened” was only reported because the PM wanted to give the family hope so that they could break the news to them. I hope when details come out Aruba amends their death penalty laws, if it wasn’t an accident as it seems it wasn’t. Some outlets are now saying the suspect specifically said he murdered her

My thoughts go out to her family. I have been reading your thoughts and comments and many have said “letting” her go to a foreign country was a bad idea. I have to disagree that “letting” her go was an option. She was 18; a legal adult. It is truly sad that we instill in our children from the time they can talk not to go with strangers, what happens when they become older and that fear is gone?

      My deepest sympathy.

This incident will not only kill tourism in aruba, but cancel every school sanctioned trip to cancun, jamaica etc. What parent in their right mind that has a child graduating next year is going to let them head off to Cancun for a week of debauchery. Cancun just happens to have a carlos n charlies too.

    214. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 1:50 am

Kathy, you are right. She was 18 and doing what many others in her class were doing. It’s so very sad, but I see no need to blame Aruba or their Law Enforcement. Look at the people that go missing in US everyday that we never find. I promise you, there are many.

    215. K Mak on June 11th, 2005 1:50 am

The body will be recovered in the morning. Now is the time to start grieving. Not obfuscating with “something bad.” She’s dead and Joran Van der Sloot is responsible, whether it was murder or manslaughter remains to be seen but that guy should never see freedom again.

      Jay –
For all you know, she had been saving up for this trip since her freshman year or something. Or she used her graduation money. Or the school did fundraising. Or they had been paying school dues towards it for 4 years. Or whatever. Her parents did not necessarily have to have paid for her to attend the trip. At my summer job as a camp counselor – between June 20 and September 20 I will make roughly $5,000. I got $2,000 for my 18th birthday, and my graduation party is right around the corner. $8000 is easy to get these days. Also – don’t forget, where she is from is a VERY wealthy area. AND she got a full ride of UAlabama. I’m sure her parents had a college fund set up for her, and when she got a full ride I’m sure they were more than willing to allow her to dip into it fot the trip…

When the story about Natalee going missing first came out CNN put out Aruba’s crime statistics listing it as one of the safest places in the WORLD. I’m sure that was one of the reasons the school chose to do a trip there.

    229. donna on June 11th, 2005 1:57 am

is there a yahoo chat on this discussion

    230. NoDumbBunny on June 11th, 2005 1:57 am

And you know it cost that much because…..how, Jay??

My 18 yo son (also a 2005 High School graduate from Alabama) just returned from an “all-inclusive” week in Cancun. With airfare and hotel it was only $1000.00.

I prepared him for this trip by telling him all of the things that could happen – with internet printouts from the US Dept of State and everything. He came home safely. I am grateful for that.

He called me on Wednesday and told me how much he appreciated my telling him all of those warnings especially in light of Natalee’s case. I thought he would have thought I was being overprotective – not the case.

I am a teacher and kids have that plus some. I am sure her parents were aware of her going, however had they said no, she still could have gone without their permission. You would be quite surprised with the resources kids have now a days. They generally have more than I do in cash on any given day. I would love to put all three of my children in a buuble and keep them safe under my watch forever, however I hope I do my best to instill good decision making skills so they can keep themselves safe when they become an age when I no longer can do it.

    236. K Mak on June 11th, 2005 1:59 am

I think it’s Joran because he was the one advertising himself as a partier on every site possible, he’s the one that befriended the group, he’s the one that almost got in a fight with one of the group that night, and admittedly has an “anger problem” and he’s the one they all (all three) maintain “got intimate” with her that night. I don’t know, it’s just a wild guess.

      Well said, Kathy!!

    238. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 2:00 am

I will admit that the impression that locals have is that this specific girl must be from from rich and/or powerful family, since the U.S. Pres. called the PM (PM said so). Also, the FBI reacted within 24 hours, which I don’t think they even do in the States.

    239. Jay on June 11th, 2005 2:00 am

I’ve read your posts for days now and agree that this site has been a great source for up to date information. arubagirl… you have been a great source of info not only on this site but others as well, and I thank you.

I would like to say that crime is everywhere and aruba seems to have such a great reputation for being safe. I don’t think this will deter those that love your island from returning. I don’t think placing blame will change the outcome of this tragedy. I for one have been amazed at the people of aruba, joining together in the search for natalee.

we need to also remember that natalee’s family has had nothing but praises for the people of the island, and I think that speaks for itself.

    241. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 2:03 am

I agree. I have been very impressed with the reaction of the people of Aruba.

there is no evidence to point to nothing
Nothing from running away trough kidnapping to death or murder

    245. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 2:04 am

I have no issues with Natalee’s family. However, the people on the boards have been infuriatingly self-righteous about the cops here, while most of them have probably never been here for long periods of time.

    246. K Mak on June 11th, 2005 2:06 am

Arubagirl, if it had been your daughter, would you have been happy with the way the police handled the case?

    247. LocalFemale on June 11th, 2005 2:07 am

      US are rectifying the news

    248. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 2:07 am

Clarification: Not ALL the people have been posing as experts. It’s just the ones that have, are very annoying.

    249. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 2:08 am

I personally don’t think anyone from the US should be self-righteous about the police from Aruba. As I stated before, we have many people here that have been missing for years and LE is no closer to finding them. We have many murders here that are no closer to being solved. We have had many very public cases that LE has messed up.

    250. Jim on June 11th, 2005 2:08 am

It seems on all the news shows that people are saying that you have to be very careful with women in Aruba. Lots of stories of very aggressive men and their tactics. In fact, there have been some news stories in the MSM about it.

Unfortunately, as safe as Aruba may be, or claim to be, this will kill tourism. Senior trips are big money to Aruba, and I can’t imagine any school or family sending their daughters to these islands. It’s not just Aruba that gets hurt, it’s all the islands and tropical locations that these kids frequent.

I can’t say I feel sorry for Aruba though. You let 17 year old kids in bars and casinos on a regular basis and you are asking for trouble. No sign of a bouncer or security at the bars to protect the young girls. And to top it off a complete joke of a police force that allowed the case to drag on for weeks and build up media attention. A good police force would have had this solved in 2 days and we wouldn’t be talking about this today.

    251. Leila on June 11th, 2005 2:08 am

Its all polical !! Aruban governement has been overrided by the police, police left 3 on the street for 11 days. They knew they did it from the beginneing

    252. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 2:08 am

this is a reporters info (or Opinion)

    255. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 2:09 am

Everyone is looking for someone to blame. No one was this upset with the US police when it took over a year to find Lacy Peterson (not to bring that up, I’m just using it as an example).

When there is a crisis the blame needs to be placed on someone, and it’s easiest to blame the people who are supposed to be taking care of things, but we don’t know what they’re doing… all we have is speculation from news sources that apparently have no authorization to be saying anything anyway… so you can’t say the police weren’t doing anything – because you arent there and therefore you dont know.

    256. Leila on June 11th, 2005 2:09 am

Aruban police is governed by other elements

    257. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 2:09 am

    258. Jay on June 11th, 2005 2:10 am

With all this news coming out, I’m reminded of a post from earlier today, that this Joren Vanderslooth updated his personal site 3 days ago…How do you kill someone, or even if he didn’t interntionally kill someone, how can you be one of the three people in the world that knows what happened to this girl, and sit at home and update your personal site?

    259. Jim on June 11th, 2005 2:10 am

    270. Jim on June 11th, 2005 2:14 am

I could see the kids family being involved. They had political and financial clout in the country. No matter what part of the world you are in, money talks. Perhaps this is the “special circumstances” that were brought up by the FBI when they sent people down. Some corruption in the case to help cover for the prominent family.

Everyone is concerned, and wants an update on the information, and these people are being kind enough to report to us what is going on over the airwaves in Aruba.

News going around on the island

Local media has contacted “live” on the air authorities, Prime Minister and other involved sources if the story, which again International media has published without the Aruba Media, Public even knows. Everyone with common sens knows that the first to find out are the local media. This left everyone on the island in shocked and therefor the local media started looking for confirmation which every top officials strongly denies. The Prime minister and Minister of Justice WHO ARE ALWAYS the first to receive any news said on the air ” Live” on the local media that the stories are not true and he has no information of any new developments.
Everyone denies that she is dead and that they are looking for her at this moment is not true.
The Ascioated press has started to change their news from found dead, or that they are looking for her remains to “bad things happening” or “bad things happened.

It’s 2 ‘o clock in the morning now and there will be no official statement until tomorrow. This is what’s going on now. Every top oficials on the island denies the story that has been published bij CNN and the AP.

    298. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 2:26 am

While I do believe that money carries its weight, I remember HUGE coverage of Jessica Lunsford and her family is far from being well-off. Some stories just grip our hearts. This was one of them. And I think that FBI usually gets involved in abductions that cross state lines as far as in the US. This case was a case of a missing American and a very “America-friendly” country. I really do not believe this was all about social status.

    299. Amy on June 11th, 2005 2:26 am

From what I understand, the authorities arrested the two security guards in order to ‘distract’ the other boys. Now, there is always a chance that this is false info. but it was said that during this time the police/FBI were able to tap the boys phones, etc…in order to gain more information. It sounds to me that they know what they are doing in Aruba (even though it stinks for the arrested security guards)

Fox News is reporting that one of the security guard will be released tomorrow morning.

My guess is that the forensic evidence from the cars came back today. They probably pressured the kid with the evidence, and possibly some other stuff they gathered, and he had no choice but to confess.

Fox News is doing a live report and here is the reporters opinion. It seems as though the story of a confession is true. The problem is that it was a leak, and the Aruban officials are very upset as it broke a promise to the family. They are now retracting it till things get sorted out. He reported the family was upset and taken to a police station, which means there is activity tonight. He also stated that there were signs of police activity at a location, but it was not confirmed.

I think we will have a body and confession tomorrow.

    371. Jim on June 11th, 2005 2:58 am

He’s 17, so he might not even be tried as an adult. He could get a few years and that’s it. If anyone from Aruba has info on how they treat crimes by minors, it would informative. The reports in the US have said that their punishments are relaxed compared to ours.

CNN is the one that broke the story, and they haven’t budged. I’m guessing everyone is copying CNN and that people are just a little scared to fully admit it. I’m assuming CNN has a stong source and not backing down.

I also have another question. I know in the US you aren’t supposed to list minors names. Does this not take place in other countries, or is our media not required to abide by those restrictions out of the country?

    372. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 2:58 am

But for this case, they’re going to throw the book at them.

Someone can only be extradited from the US to another country if the crime was committed in the US and they tried to flee – you’re correct.

    377. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 3:00 am

On the name issue, I think it was CNN that first ran the names, and the local media was once again pissed, because the cops wouldn’t release the names to them, and yet it was all over U.S. news. Usually we don’t get this much detail about the names. It’s usually initials or first name and last name initial.

    378. Jim on June 11th, 2005 3:01 am

They can’t be extradited to the US as the crime didn’t take place here. I’d agree they will throw the book at him (although his connections may get him out of trouble). And trust me, this kid doesn’t want to be extradited here.

    383. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:02 am

No! FOX isn’t reporting “NO” confession… that’s just a phrase that was on their screen, not the whole story:

FOX’s reporter in Aruba said that the Holloway family was taken to the police station late tonight and was in tears following. That the police higher-ups were locked down in meetings and that a confession was made.

He went on to say that others in the police dept and the PM are denying that a confession was made. For what it’s worth, as of this message, CNN is still sticking to the story….

FOX’s reporter theorizes that the confession was made and was reported to Natalee’s family, but that the government made a promise to the family to hold that information for a short time. It could also be a ploy to keep media away from the search for the body tonight or tomorrow.

It was also reported that Joran was not in his cell and that he was leading police to the body…

I’m not saying that corruption never happens on the island, but I’m telling you that in this specific case, they’re going to ask for the maximum, and the older two are going to get it. As for the minor, I have NO idea how they are going to deal with his case.

I think that all networks are biased….however, fox will talk about pres bush 24/7. it doesn’t matter what else is going on, bush iraq bush oil defending bush is fox’s main story. i’m shocked that they are talking about hurricanes….oh wait, no, they quickly related that to oil as well!!!

    389. frankdags on June 11th, 2005 3:04 am

One more thing if he had internet conversations with NH yes he can be extradited to the US.

    390. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:05 am

I doubt he did though. They met while she was there and I highly doubt she spent her time chatting online with people… or atleast, I wouldn’t.

    391. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 3:06 am

      On what grounds, frankdaq?

    392. Jay on June 11th, 2005 3:06 am

oooo, msnbc is about to interview vandersluts mom in a few minutes

    393. frankdags on June 11th, 2005 3:08 am

There is a Highly regarded source that prior to the trip internet conversations were indeed held between some of the students prior to their arrival. Good night all.

    394. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:08 am

I think the story that CNN broke was true. I agree that they probably did not expect it to hit so fast and furiously and expected the family would have time to get in contact with family and friends in US before TV and internet were flooded with the news. It’s the middle of the night. I think then they were trying to close the can of worms, but it was a little late for that. Maybe also protecting a crime scene. But, I do believe the information was correct. Someone messed up by informing CNN when they did, not giving the family time, or maybe CNN agreed to sit on it for a little while and didn’t.

    395. Jim on June 11th, 2005 3:09 am

The Internet conversations was not a crime, therefore extradition is not possible. It is where the crime took place.

    396. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 3:09 am

Guys, I’m signing off, nursing a flu bug here. Hope that she’s alive, but I have little hope. It’s been a pleasure.

    397. Linda on June 11th, 2005 3:09 am

Before I came to work tonight, Fox News had a video(at 9:45PM DST) showing Joran’s mother in the lobby of the police station–Fox wasn’t sure whether she was there to see her son or a detective but something was happening. It must have something to do with the press releases later.
I’ve been to Aruba twice and going back in October–I love the island–always had a grat time with no problems–All the locals we encountered were very friendly and accommodating.
We,ve travelled all over the entire island–there are many places her body could have been placed.
What a shame–by the way–for those wondering about Natalee’s biol. father–I believe he a prestigeous person–knows Pres. Bush and if you look up Holloway on the internet–you will see the name goes way back in the prestige and money line.

    398. LocalFemale on June 11th, 2005 3:10 am

Ps Us cannot ask for them to be extridited but Aruba can offer to send them there
being it a big media case. but Us cannot ask for that since it happend on Aruba grounds and not us

    399. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:10 am

I am watching fox, i heard the reporter……i am stating what the ticker says. cnn is not live ,fox is…..that was my point and at one point fox said that aruban officials were retracting that story and sending” mixed signals”…..that happened before the live report. Do people get on this site to get info or to be right??? I came for info!

    400. Red on June 11th, 2005 3:11 am

Good night Aruba Girl, get well.

    401. Jay on June 11th, 2005 3:11 am

MSNBC is the best station to be watching. they’re live and about to talk to van der sloots mother

    402. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:12 am

      thanks jay….watching

    403. Nate on June 11th, 2005 3:14 am

I wonder how many teenage tourist girls have been watching the news, see Jaron’s face and say, Holy crap! I fooled around with that guy!

    404. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:15 am

I saw his face and said “holy crap I hope it wasnt him, he’s kind of cute”… but he has that look about him that makes him look REALLY scary and untrustworthy.

    405. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:15 am

how many of them are alive to watch:)

    406. Jay on June 11th, 2005 3:15 am

I wonder how many guys have said that about the other two

    407. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:16 am

Jessie – Yes, several government and police sources are ‘retracting’ but the FOX reporter and CNN still claim that it was stated earlier that a confession was made.

I think the backpedaling is not on the part of the person reporting the confession, but the govt either protecting the family or crime scene.

So a confession was made – and reported by AP and CNN and FOX – and some people are claiming it wasn’t..

    408. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:17 am

Ok. I’m off to bed. I have to be @ the airport by 11:30 tomorrow… annnd I still have to pack (going to visit my boyfriends Family, no worries – no unchaparoned trips to Aruba) … so … I hope all goes well with the search, and I hope you all have a wonderful night and a good tomorrow and such.

    409. Jay on June 11th, 2005 3:18 am

awww, poor kid has a toothache

    410. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:18 am

The interviews with the mother are not live on msnbc, but the latest news before the interview was that “some sort of confession” was made but no confirmation that she is dead as of yet and no search for body as of yet.

    411. Nate on June 11th, 2005 3:20 am

Hey Courtney, if you would see his picture and he wasn’t affiliated with a missing girl…do you still think he would look scary and trustworthy?

    412. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:21 am

okay, rick, but only cnn is saying that she is dead and it sucks that her family had to hear that in such a manner. msnbc even says some sort of a confession was made and i am not argueing that……all i am saying is that it is not “confirmed” that she is dead and he confessed to murder.

    413. arubian person on June 11th, 2005 3:24 am

There is a rumour going around that she did died from an overdose and was hastily buried…
However we have to wait in the forensics after the body is found…
This might be the best scenario for thes boys ,however if there were directly involved
in murder then they can be extridited to US via the Dutch.
In this case I the dead penalty will not be enough for all the damage that was done on Aruba reputation in the world.

    414. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:25 am

      Back… I’m such a loser. LOL

Actually, Nate – probably. Maybe it’s b/c he’s wearing a g-Unit shirt (blah), or the fact that he just doesnt look like the guys around here (I’m from a small town, the epidemy of upper middle class america) and I just feel like he’s very… shady.

    415. Nate on June 11th, 2005 3:26 am

      Where’d you hear the rumor?

    416. Gabriel Leo on June 11th, 2005 3:26 am

I have been reading the comments and some people want to know what’s the law here
      This is the law:

One who takes the life of a human beeing gets a max of 15 years (in Dutch law terms this is called doodslag). In this situation his intention were to murder but was not planning to do so.

Murder (“Moord”) Gets 20 years to life in jail. This is called premeditated murder. The premeditation has to be proven that before he is judged on these term. e.g. one has been planning for days to murder someone. Was following the victim, bought weapons, had and escape plan etc.

One who is murdered as a result of abuse e.g. was in fight and the attacker atacked the victim until he or she passed away gets a max of 12 years (“Levensberoving op verzoek”)

Those who were involved in the acts get a punishment somewhere from 3 years up to 12 years depending on the role the had with the acts.

A minor gets a low jail sentence but can be tried as an adult if there is enough proof of such.

Aruba is a part of the Ducth Kindom and therefor has the same Law as the Netherlands on Criminal grounds. This counts for Aruba, the Netherlands Antilles and The Netherlands.

On another note: Nothing is confirmed, there are so many rumors, international media is changing their stories and the local media says that nothing is confirmed and authorities deny giving such info to the international press.
I am confidend that tomorrow this entire case wil come to and end. so until than. Everyone hold on.

    417. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:27 am

If she died of an overdose and they buried her they’re still screwed. They probably didn’t want to get caught for like drug trafficking or whatever, but not they could get charged with that, with holding information, giving false information/evidence and possibly murder, or like- man1 or something.

    418. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:28 am

it is not far fetched that a “good girl” got away from her rich parents and squeaky clean image on an island and od’ed………i wouldn’t be shocked. Anything is easier to handle than murder. our family has been there.

    419. Jay on June 11th, 2005 3:29 am

I think arubian person is right on. I think they fed her drugs, either knowingly or unknowingly, which her body wasn’t used to at all, mixed with the alcohol, and that killed her.
