Another Defeat for Obama … Larry Summers Withdraws Name from Consideration as Chairman of the Federal Reserve

Larry Summers, Barack Obama’s preferred choice to head the Federal Reserve withdraws his name for consideration for Fed chair. Former U.S. Treasury Secretary and Harvard President Summers called President Obama to announce the withdrawn his name for consideration to succeed Ben Bernanke as Federal Reserve chairman. Obama accepted his resignation.

For Lawrence H. Summers, President Obama’s preferred candidate to lead the Federal Reserve, the messy debate over a military attack in Syria was the final sign.

After weeks of opposition to his candidacy from an array of progressives, the president’s inability to rally Congressional Democrats on Syria persuaded Mr. Summers that his most important audience — the Senate, which must confirm a Fed chairman — probably could not be won over.

He concluded that the White House was also unlikely to overcome opposition to his candidacy from many of the same Democrats, who view him as an opponent of stronger financial regulation, according to supporters who insisted on anonymity to describe confidential conversations with him.

“Clearly Obama couldn’t bring his own most enthusiastic supporters to back him on an issue of national security,” one supporter said. “How was he going to corral them for Larry?”

And like with a military strike on Syria, it was not the GOP that doomed Summers with his chances to become FED chair, it was the Democrat opposition. Summers got no love from Democrats and even less support from Obama who failed to convince Congress that Summers should be the next Fed chair.

Shots Fired at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters Building in DC … 5 People Shot … Active Search for Gunman (Update: 10 People Wounded) (Update: 2 Shooters, 4 Dead, 8 Wounded) (Update: 12 Killed)

At 8:20 am at the US Naval Sea Systems Command HQ in Washington, DC, shot were fired. As reported at Navy.mil, Several people were injured in a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, including a police officer.

From CBS DC: Authorities have reportedly described the suspect as a bald black male dressed in all black, possibly carrying an assault rifle and a double-barreled shotgun. Law enforcement officials believe the suspect is still in the building.

The U.S. Navy said that three shots were fired around 8:20 a.m. at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building, where about 3,000 people work.

Police said that at least three, possibly four, people were shot. All are in critical condition, authorities said.

A “shelter in place” order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel, authorities said.

Police closed the 11th St Bridge as well as M St SE between 2nd and 4th streets SE due to the shooting. Entrances to the Navy Yard Metro station remain open.

UPDATE I: At least five people have been shot at the Washington Navy Yard and an active shooter is still on the base grounds in Southeast D.C.

The 11th Street Bridge is closed in both directions. M Street is closed near New Jersey Avenue near 11th Street.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has a ground stop due to “security,” according to the Federal Aviation Administration website. The FAA says all departures have been grounded until at least 10:30 a.m.

UPDATE III: From the WAPO … Police believe they have pinned down a shooter who has been firing at people in the Washington Navy Yard wounding at least 10 people.

Police said that they believe the shooter is somewhere between the third and fourth floors of one of the buildings on the installation in Southeast Washington, but they declined to identify it further.

Police on the scene said eight civilians were shot, along with the two police officers. One is a D.C. Metro Police officer who was shot two times in the leg, police said. The other officer worked at the base.

UPDATE IV: Police say 2 shooters have killed 4, injured 8 on grounds of Washington Navy Yard.

Police now believe two shooters, including one in fatigues, have killed four people and wounded eight others at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, throwing the region into fear and chaos during the morning commute.

At least one of the shooters is “down,” police said mid-morning, but it was unclear whether that means the suspect has been arrested or shot. They said the other suspect remains at large, and police believe they have pinned down one between the third and fourth floors of one of the buildings on the installation in Southeast Washington.

A former petty officer who apparently had a grudge against the Navy sprayed an office building with bullets at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, killing 12 people in a rampage that paralyzed part of the nation’s capital, authorities said.

Authorities said the gunman, a civilian contractor and former Navy reservist they identified as Aaron Alexis, 34, was killed after exchanging fire with officers who stormed the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command in a massive law enforcement response.

10 Year Old Devon Morrison Missing Since 9/14/13 in Belding, MI …Searching the Flat River (Update: Police Tape Off Area Around Devon’s Home) (Update: Find Sneakers, but Boy Still Missing) (Update: Found Deceased)

10 year old Devon Morrison has been missing since Saturday, September 14, 2013 in Belding, MI. According to accounts, Devon Morrison left his home near Harrison Street and North York Street to go fishing alone along the Flat River on Saturday and never returned. A neighbor who knows Devon told police that they spotted him walking on Harrison Street with his fishing pole at 2:30 p.m. Nelson said the neighbor believed the boy was walking away from the river.

Authorities in Belding are searching for a young boy who went missing yesterday after telling his parents he was going fishing.

A dive team has been called in to search the Flat River for missing Devon Morrison, whom Ionia County sheriff’s dispatchers say went missing Saturday, Sept. 14 in Belding.

Morrison left his home near Harrison Street and North York Street on Belding’s northeast side to go fishing alone on Saturday and never returned. His mother reported he was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

FBI joins search for 10-year-old in Belding; chief calls disappearance ‘suspicious’.

Authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Michigan State Police, have searched the river near downtown with boats and helicopters for the 10-year-old boy, whom police say is well known in this small town community.

The disappearance is considered suspicious, said Belding Police Chief Dale Nelson.

“Because he has not been located and we don’t have a firm direction as to where he’s at, were treating it as a possible criminal activity,” said Nelson.

Authorities have put up police tape around the home of a missing 10-year-old Belding boy.

A 24 Hour News 8 crew went to the house Sunday evening to speak with the family. When they arrived, they found police sealing off an area around Devon Morrison’s home and police searching the home. Authorities tell 24 Hour News 8 they are searching the home, but wouldn’t give specifics.

UPDATE IV: Divers find body of missing 10-year-old Belding boy near favorite fishing spot.

The body of 10-year-old Devon Morrison was found about 12:30 p.m. today near one of his favorite fishing spots, Belding police Chief Dale Nelson said.

Morrison went missing Saturday afternoon and police and volunteers searched unsuccessfully for him since Saturday night.

Today, however, divers found his body near the Ashfield Street bridge.

Liberal Comedian Bill Maher Criticized Obama Intervention in Syria … U.S. is Looking “More like George Zimmerman” than World Police

Liberal comedian Bill Maher slapped back at Barack Obama and his handling of the Syrian crisis and stated that U.S. is looking less like the World police and “More like George Zimmerman.” Ouch, that is going to leave a mark from the far LEFT.. Would that mean that Obama’s handling of Syria is racist? Maher went on to say,  “we’re the only nation, as we’ve have seen in this Syrian fiasco, who threatens to drop bombs on you while telling you we don’t want to get involved.”

Liberal comedian Bill Maher said Friday the U.S. is looking “more like George Zimmerman” with regards to military force and criticized arguments over intervention in Syria.

“Forget the Syria debate, we need a debate on why we’re always debating whether to bomb someone. Because we’re starting to look not so much like the world’s policeman, but more like George Zimmerman. Itching to use force and then pretending it’s because we had no choice,” Maher said on his HBO program “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Maher, who has been critical of President Barack Obama’s case to intervene in Syria, continued to condemn military force.
