Establishment Republicans Surrender … House Passes Senate Bill to Reopen Government and Increase Debt Limit 285-144 … Senate Passes Bill 81-18

Speaker Boehner and GOP cave … In a country that already spends more than it takes it, irresponsible politicians kick the can down the road and raise the debt limit to spend even more money that America does not have.

Tonight the US Senate and House of Representatives passes the Senate led bill to end the partial government shutdown and increase the debt limit. The Senate passed the bill 81 to 18 and the House voted in favor of it 285 to 144.  Incredibly, not one Democrat in the House or Senate voted against raising the debt on “We the People”. Imagine that? CNN reports that President Barack Obama will sign it immediately. The director of the Office of Management and Budget said that federal workers should expect to return to work Thursday morning. Hmm, does this mean that open air monuments will be open to of military veteran heroes?

In Obama’s speech tonight there was no reference to the GOP as terrorists or hostage takers … where is the evil rhetoric Mr. President?

Congressional Republicans conceded defeat on Wednesday in their bitter budget fight with President Obama over the new health care law as the House and Senate approved last-minute legislation ending a disruptive 16-day government shutdown and extending federal borrowing power to avert a financial default with potentially worldwide economic repercussions.

With the Treasury Department warning that it could run out of money to pay national obligations within a day, the Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday evening, 81 to 18, to approve a proposal hammered out by the chamber’s Republican and Democratic leaders after the House on Tuesday was unable to move forward with any resolution. The House followed suit a few hours later, voting 285 to 144 to approve the Senate plan, which would fund the government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt limit through Feb. 7.

Most House Republicans opposed the bill, but 87 voted to support it. The breakdown showed that Republican leaders were willing to violate their informal rule against advancing bills that do not have majority Republican support in order to end the shutdown. All 198 Democrats voting supported the measure.

Welcome to crony capitalism … The city of Detroit is in financial ruin, has become the largest city in the United States to declare bankruptcy, yet the $444 million hockey arena for the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings goes forward. Re you kidding me. Detroit cannot keep their streets lit and it takes nearly an hour for police response, yet its some how a priority to spend another $400 million of tax payer dollars on a hockey stadium whose owners are worth billions. How does this make sense in the face of a complete and colossal financial collapse? 40% of streetlights remain dark, fire and police forces are cut, schools are a disgrace, 79,000 empty buildings need to be dealt with, and the public pension system is bleeding the city but a shiny new hockey stadium in the middle of an impoverished war zone is a priority. UNREAL!

Detroit’s financial crisis hasn’t derailed the city’s plans to spend more than $400 million in Michigan taxpayer funds on a new hockey arena for the Red Wings.

Advocates of the arena say it’s the kind of economic development needed to attract both people and private investment dollars into downtown Detroit. It’s an argument that has convinced Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and Kevyn Orr, the emergency manager he appointed to oversee the city’s finances, to stick with the plan. Orr said Detroit’s bankruptcy filing won’t halt the arena plans.

“I know there’s a lot of emotional concern about should we be spending the money,” said Orr. “But frankly that’s part of the economic development. We need jobs. If it is as productive as it’s supposed to be, that’s going to be a boon to the city.”

But critics say the project won’t have enough economic impact to justify the cost, and that it’s the wrong spending priority for a city facing dire economic conditions.

Who wants to go to a hockey game in the middle of hell? Seriously, in lieu of spending funds on police and firefighters, the money goes to a sports stadium instead. However, this is what happens when you promote 50 years of “blue” state Democrat, welfare state politics of high taxes, and lavish benefits packages for public and union workers. This crash was set in motion years ago, it was only a matter of time before it reached its final conclusion.

Rick Snyder justified approving the historic filing by reciting a litany of the city’s ills, including more than $18 billion in debt, maxed-out tax rates, the highest murder rate in 40 years, 78,000 abandoned buildings and a half-century of residential flight. He said the city failed to provide basic services to residents or pay creditors.

The city of Detroit filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection in federal court Thursday, laying the groundwork for a historic effort to bail out a city that is sinking under billions of dollars in debt and decades of mismanagement, population flight and loss of tax revenue.

The bankruptcy filing makes Detroit the largest city in U.S. history to do so.

The filing begins a 30- to 90-day period that will determine whether the city is eligible for Chapter 9 protection and define how many claimants might compete for the limited settlement resources that Detroit has to offer. The bankruptcy petition would seek protection from creditors and unions who are renegotiating $18.5 billion in debt and other liabilities.

Taking Obama at his word, his own words, that would mean that he is admitting he wants to tax some business out of business. And we wonder why the economy in the United States has just been awful and has not gotten any better since Obama has been president. Welcome to the non-existent Obama job recovery which has been the worst job recovery ever. Is it any wonder why so many Americans are unemployed, so many Americans are on food stamps and so many Americans have just given up looking for employment. Obama actually wants to tax some businesses out of business. This is just unreal.

Of course social security will not even be there for the middle class.

Obama railed on Mitt Romney for paying less of an effective tax rate than most Americans, yet guess what America … so did Obama. If he really felt so inclined that this should not happen, why did he not instruct his accountants to structure his tax return so that he paid an effective rate of 30%? Why didn’t he so it, because he is a liberal hypocrite, that’s why! Sorry, but only an individual of low character asks others to do something that they would not do themselves and lead by example.
