Remembering The Last Remaining World War I Veterans
Lisa Hoffman from Scripps Howard News Service has a list of the last remaining World War I veterans still living. On Veterans Day, it is a good time to stop and remember the sacrifices that were made for us, from the soldiers of the World Wars, to Vietnam, Korea, and our battles in the Gulf.
They have made the sacrifice for us to live like we do and we are forever indebted to their heritage and commitment to freedom.
We have excerpted a few of the soldiers from World War I who are still alive, but read the list, it is captivating.
- Frank Buckles, 105, lives near Charles Town, W.Va. Lied about his age to join the Army, served in ambulance service in France in 1917-1918. Caught Gen. John Pershing’s eye with his dapper appearance. In World War II, was imprisoned for more than three years in a Japanese POW camp. Still runs his 330-acre farm and lives largely on his own.
- Antonio Pierro, 110, lives in Swampscott, Mass. Four years after he immigrated from Forenza, Italy, he enlisted and fought in the brutal Argonne offensive in France, which saw 1,000 U.S. casualties a day but was pivotal in pushing back the Germans and boosting Allied morale. Drove a horse and wagon to the front to bring supplies and take back bodies. After the war, did research and development at a General Electric plant. Says exercise, hard work and lots of rest are his secrets to longevity.
- Howard Ramsey, 108, lives in Portland, Ore. So determined to enlist, he stuffed himself with bananas to gain enough weight to pass muster. A skilled driver at a time when motor vehicles were few, he brought fresh water to the troops in the trenches, and later transferred decomposing war casualties from temporary graves to permanent resting places. After the war, became a telephone engineer. Tried to enlist in World War II, but his civilian work was considered too essential to take him from the home front.

Elections Have Consequences … You Have got to be Kidding? War advice from Mc Govern to Congress
File this one under … don’t ask for things, they might come true.
So we have the UN happy over the Democratic take over of the House and Senate. Then we have Dictators, Islamofascists Celebrate Democratic Gains. So how does it get worse?
George McGovern is to meet with Congress to recommend a strategy to remove US troops from Iraq. Good God, you have got to be kidding. I have to agree with Red State, I am at a complete and total loss for words. Um, George … what drew the Islamofascists to kill nearly 3000 people on 9–11? McGovern? Didn’t the American people already voice their opinion on McGovern back in 1972?
“The best way to reduce this insurgency is to get the American forces out of there,” McGovern said. “That’s what’s driving this insurgency.”

BREAKING NEWS … Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld Resigns … Now Dennis Hastert won’t Run for Leadership Position
Some one always has to take the fall after a disaster …
This should come as no surprise after last nights election results where the Republican party was taken out back of the woodshed. The Drudge Report is stating as well as all cable networks that Donald Rumsfeld is stepping down. Of course there are several Republican Representatives, Senators and Governors asking themselves this morning why this couldn’t have come a month or two ago.
IN
Gates is the president of Texas A&M University and a close friend of the Bush family. He served as CIA director for Bush’s father from 1991 until 1993.
Gates first joined the CIA in 1966 and served in the intelligence community for more
than a quarter century, under six presidents. His nomination must be confirmed by the Senate.
I would not be surprised if we see a change in the Republican House and Senate leadership as well. Rumsfeld will be replaced by former CIA Director Robert Gates.
OUT
Bush says Rumsfeld is stepping down
Bush described Rumsfeld as a “superb leader” in a time of change, but said his defense chief recognizes the value of “fresh perspective.” He said Rumsfeld is a “trusted adviser and friend,” and that he’s “deeply grateful” for his service to the country. Bush said he and Rumsfeld agreed that “the timing is right for new leadership” at the Pentagon. (Yahoo News)
UPDATE: 4:00 EDT Hastert Won’t Seek House Leader Post
I guess we called that one from the above post, “I would not be surprised if we see a change in the Republican House and Senate leadership as well.” Speaker of the House Dennis Hasert has told fellow Republicans that he will not run for minority leadership in the new Congress. Its time to broom the Republican leadership and start a new. Hint to Republican’s … Conservatism did not lose yesterday, you did.
His decision to step down cleared the way for a likely succession battle. Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, the majority leader, is expected to run, and Reps. Mike Pence of Indiana and Joe Barton of Texas have also signaled they may make a bid for leadership positions.
The officials said they did not know whether Hastert intended to remain in Congress. He was elected to an 11th term in Illinois on Tuesday night, and had said he would seek a new term as speaker if the GOP held the House. (Breitbart)
Who shall be next? We already know that Republicans will have to find a new Senate Minority leader. That is after the forgone conclusion is ended in the VA Senate race and Jim Webb is declared the winner giving Democrats control of the US Senate.
The Republicans in the House of Representatives and the Senate need to take a good look in the mirror, grow a spine and understand why their base is so upset at them.

Massive Rally in Venezuela for Hugo Chavez opponent, Presidential Candidate Manuel Rosales
It does not appear that all in Venezuela agree with Hugo Chavez. Hundreds of thousands of supporters turned out to support the opposition presidential candidate Manuel Rosales. Obviously Chavez is up in the polls. Many think that Hugo Chavez has created black lists and is using voter intimidation. Chavez would use any fear tactic to remain in power. Its worked for him so far. Venezuela’s only hope for any type of future is to rid themselves of Chavez. Unfortunately, dictators have a way of winning elections. Wonder how democratic a process this will really be?
“Rosales is our last hope to prevent this country from becoming another Cuba,” said 53-year-old engineer Antonio Romero, who marched with his family carrying Venezuelan flags.
Rosales promises to end Chavez’s confrontation with the Bush administration, redistribute bountiful oil revenues and reduce soaring crime rates throughout Venezuela. (Reuters)

Saddam Hussein Crimes Against Humanity Verdict Expected Sunday … and this just in … Saddam Closer To Nuclear Bomb Than Anyone Thought
Three years after Saddam Hussein was found hiding in a spider hole giving himself up to US troops, Sunday could be the day that he is convicted of “crimes against humanity” and condemned to death in an Iraqi Court.
Saddam, 69, and seven co-accused have been charged with crimes against humanity for the killing of 148 Shi’ite villagers after an attempt on his life in the town of Dujail in 1982.
If convicted, Saddam faces death by hanging, a prospect Shi’ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, with some disregard for judicial independence, has said cannot come soon enough. (Reuters)
