Saddam Hussein Crimes Against Humanity Verdict Expected Sunday … and this just in … Saddam Closer To Nuclear Bomb Than Anyone Thought

Three years after Saddam Hussein was found hiding in a spider hole giving himself up to US Saddamhussein_capturedtroops, Sunday could be the day that he is convicted of “crimes against humanity” and condemned to death in an Iraqi Court.

Saddam, 69, and seven co-accused have been charged with crimes against humanity for the killing of 148 Shi’ite villagers after an attempt on his life in the town of Dujail in 1982.

If convicted, Saddam faces death by hanging, a prospect Shi’ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, with some disregard for judicial independence, has said cannot come soon enough. (Reuters)

With the verdict announcement of this trial two days before the midterm elections, how will this affect them if any?

As President Bush faces mounting criticism over the war, a guilty verdict announced two days ahead of tight U.S. congressional elections on November 7 could reflect positively on him as a vindication of his policy to overthrow Saddam.

Let us remember one very important fact regarding Saddam Hussein and Iraq. No one should be allowed to treat their people this way. No one, Republicans, Democrats or Independents should ever condone such action. The US has stepped into other situations to help as in the case of Yugoslavia’s Slobodan Milosevic.

“Saddam is being tried by his own people and in his land,” the official said. “That is what this trial is about.”

UPDATE: There was always talk of WMD’s that US and foreign intelligence said was real. Now a report comes from the NY Times, hardly a right wing, GWB mouth piece. Saddam Hussein’s regime was perhaps only a year away from developing nuclear weapons at the time of the US invasion.

Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990’s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein’s scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.

The NY Times just said that Saddam Hussein and Iraq were within a year of having nuclear weapons. I can’t wait ton hear no one talk about this in the MSM days away from an election where Democrats have stated this election is a referendum on Iraq.

Does anyone see the irony that the NY Times would be upset about divulging classified information on the internet? What are they upset about, that it was not divulged in the NY Times as usual?

So Saddam Hussein had programs of WMD before he didn’t? Can someone explain how the NY Times can call the GWB Administration incompetent for having this info on the internet and in the same breathe state that Saddam Hussein did not pose a real threat?

Woulda, coulda, shoulda…isn’t it interesting that a few days before the election, this news comes out with nothing to back it up? The UN inspectors found no evidence that Iraq had nuclear capability.

The only issue that people should be looking at is what was going on when Bush sent us into Iraq, not what someone is coming up with as a possibility that could have happened in one year. The fact is that Bush violated International Law by sending troops to fight a war when there was no imminent danger to us. We made a first strike against Iraq and if anyone had done the same thing to us on the assumption that we might develop something in a year that we don’t have the capability of creating now, we’d be nuking them. How can anyone try to justify his (one of many) illegal acts by using something so remote…a few days before the elections? That’s like believing that gas prices aren’t going to go back up right after the elections. People who really follow the issues see all this for what it really is.

Hey, did anyone see the HBO documentary last night discussing 6 years worth of research that showed how voting machines all over the country have been rigged? Now, that’s hard evidence!

I am glad that we stopped Saddam, before we could find hard proof.A mushroom rising above say Haifa would be very bad.Joe

I guess we should go around the world and attack everyone we suspect before we have any evidence…sounds a bit like Minority Report. Maybe next we’ll attack the real threats like Iran, North Korea…etc.

    4. Ramlady on November 3rd, 2006 6:08 pm

The U.N. inspectors did not WANT to find any evidence of nuclear capability in Iraq. Then they would actually have to DO something about it, wouldn’t they? We all know some nations in the U.N., such as France and Russia, were complicit in doing business with Saddam in violation of the U.N. Does the “oil-for-food” scandal ring a bell? Saddam violated SEVENTEEN U.N. mandates, and don’t bring up that tired mantra of “Bush lied!! They were no WMDs!!” For the thousandth time, British intelligence said he had them as well as other countries, France even said it was possible they had them, Bill Clinton said he had them, John Kerry said he had them, Saddam’s own generals thought he had them–Saddam had told them he did.

As far as gas prices go, they have ALREADY gone up slightly higher in the last 2-3 weeks. So there goes your theory: I guess some Democrat is behind the scenes pulling strings MAKING the oil prices go up so they will win the elections next week?? Obviously, you have never heard of “supply and demand.” Or is that a vast right-wing conspiracy too?

Speaking of the voting machines, yes, I have heard about that as well and also how easy it is to hack into these voting machines to change the results. So either don’t use them or fix the problem. Simple solution. Gee, I wonder which party would take advantage of that little glitch? Hint: Incidences of voter fraud among Democrats run 4 times higher than among Republicans in areas where there is a high occurrence of voter fraud. We have all heard about the ACORN scandal in Missouri haven’t we? Dead people voting, people voting multiple times, voting by people who are not legally registered to vote, etc., etc. Let’s not re-visit the 2000 election in Florida again.

BTW, I heard on the news this morning there was a headline in an Egyptian newspaper quoting an Al Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade leader saying the terrorists are pulling for the Democrats to win in the American elections next week. Seems they saw Nancy Pelosi’s interview a couple weeks ago where she was boasting that she would have any office she wanted when she becomes Speaker of the House. They also picked up her little comment that when the Democrats take control of Congress and pull out of Iraq that the terrorists will leave Iraq. They really loved that. They are convinced the majority of Americans will vote Democrat and our troops will be leaving shortly, but they also stated that they will not be leaving and will continue their insurgency in Iraq until they defeat the new democratically-elected government there. So terrorists are pulling for the Dems to win–now there is a GREAT endorsement don’t you think?

Sorry I won’t be able to reply right away to any comments you may wish to make regarding my post. I am leaving right now to go out of town for the weekend, but I WILL be back! BTW, nice to see you posting again; I don’t agree with anything you say, but at least you are obviously intelligent. Have a great weekend!

#4: Sorry, I stopped reading right after the first couple of sentences. The UN inspectors didn’t WANT to find any WMD?? What a joke! Right…they saw them and decided to make believe nothing was there because then they would have had to do something? Like…uh…write a report that was different than what they wrote? Oh yeah…they were “French and Russian and complicit in doing business with Hussein.” I suppose you forgot that it was the US Gov’t (under the Reagan Administration) that got him started in chemical warfare, and we sold him weapons when he was fighting the Iranians…Oh…and remember the picture of Rumsfeld and Hussein shaking hands two weeks after Hussein gassed the Kurds?? I wish I had the time and inclination to ramble on forever about nothing like you do, but when you’re right, no need to beat it into people.

The Saddam trial is a joke. This court has no control
of Saddam. He does as he pleases. There will never
be a conviction, or if there is, it will never be
carried out. Saddam wins. I say turn him lose, leave
Iraq and let them kill each other.

      BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH

Just more political B.S. I remember when this attack took
place. They had a little clip at the end of the local news
so not too many people would notice. The newsreel showed
a home that had been attacked. Apparently, after the gas,
the home was torched. What was left was a picture of the
family, both young and old houvered in a corner, almost on
top of each other and burnt til they were black. It was a
site that I will never forget.

But few people realized it then, or even now, that at that
time, we were his alies in a war against Iran. So they can
say what they want, but we were kept in the dark for a very
long time and because of that I am not quick to defend or
to attack anyone… especially a world leader. We only know
as much as the government and the News Agencies want us to
know; and it doesn’t take them long to paint a picture of a
      monster.

It seems funny (not in a laughing way) that this country
did and said nothing at the time of that attack, as he was
our friend, but now he and his regime are the wickedest of
them all. Wasn’t it our country that helped put this man
in power? Wasn’t it our country that kept this man stocked
in his weaponry and especially in his air capabilities?

He is a monster, but he was always a monster, and as sorry
as I am to say this; so were we. We are charging him with
the use of chemical weapons that he probably received from
us. Where else were those weapons used????? IRAN!!!!!

If I had a question, it would simply be this…. How many
other tyrants do we support in this world??? And if they
are hurting their own, why aren’t we doing anything about
      them?

This whole business about Saddam Insane is simply a ploy
      to keep this war going.

      BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAh…BLah…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH…BLAH

Actions speek louder than words. America, you need to get

      your dirty political schemes.

      BUSH VIOLATED “INTERNATIONAL LAW” ?!?

      Ha! What a tyro.

I guess the 400 or so members of the US Congress (both the Senate and the House) who voted in FAVOR of the resolution to use military force against Iraq in October of 2002 also
“violated” international law. And that includes John Kerry.

tyro-observer, get back in your spider hole.

if they had nuclear bombs, they would have used them allready!and if they did, they still do and it’s time to get scared, really scared,it’s like in that movie “sum of all fears” when morgan freeman says;it’s not the country with 3000 bombs i’am worried about, it’s the lone nut with one!now, than it’s time to get worried!…

    16. omnipotentobserver on November 4th, 2006 9:55 pm

Yup…Bush violated international law by unilaterally attacking Iraq without approval from the UN Security Council. Whether you like it or not, agree or disagree, his pre-emptive strike was illegal and was frowned upon by most of the world. It is against international law to attack a country simply because you “feel” threatened, rather than as a valid act of self-defense. It doesn’t matter who in Congress voted for it. I’m not talking about US law. I’m talking about international law and it’s sad that so many people don’t really understand the issues. We were lucky that Iraq wasn’t capable of reacting with a nuclear strike, because that would have been sanctioned by the UN as an act of self defense!

    17. hammer on November 5th, 2006 12:17 am

      ILLEGAL OR FROWNED UPON?

Illegal under WHOSE LAW? The Congress of the United States of America AUTHORIZED THE USE OF MILITARY FORCE IN IRAQ UNDER RESOLUTION NOTED ABOVE.

      Period.

The United States of America does not need, nor asks, for “permission” from foreign entities to approve its inherent right of and for national security.

You are incorrect in stating that it “is against international law” to act in protection of a nation’s sovreign interests and security.

You are not talking about US Law, eh? Well, tyro, President Bush would have broken the law had he NOT TAKEN ACTION AGAINST IRAQ as outlined in PUBLIC LAW 107-243.

We don’t “understand the law”? Do you think UN resolutions are treated as “LAW” in the Middle East? Or not.

Get back in your spider hole. And don’t come ’round here lecturing people WHO ACTUALLY KNOW THE LAW about how they don’t understand it.

LUCKY THAT IRAQ COULDN’T MUSTER NUCLEAR STRIKE ?!?

Yup. The United States is “lucky.” Presuming that tyros like you actually believe that Islamofacists like Saddam Hussein, is he’d had a nuclear capability, wouldn’t use it — then I guess the USA is just that “lucky”?

Or are the Iraqi people “lucky”? That’s my bet. Are you a special type of tyro; completely ignorant of security ultimatums that have been surely sitting on the table for years since the events of 9/11? The kind that goes back channel to folks “who need to know” that if a “nuclear event” occurs within the territory of the United States of America, then the “following reprisals” will occur without negotiation, without warning, and without the need for chain of command authorization: they will be “AUTOMATIC.”

How many “nuclear weapons” are on board a single US Navy attack submarine?

What world do you live in? Is it a parallel universe where perversion is accepted as “LAW”? Akin to the 90 lashes meted out on Friday 11/3/06 to a rape victim in Saudi Arabia because she was in the company of a man to whom she was not related? Or are you a just another self-loathing, anti-Bushite from the fever-swamps of vitriol needing a place to clear your bile?

      Why not just go away.

Leave the serious business of national security to “ADULTS” who are committed to this nation’s well being and protection — !

It’s clear from your unschooled and inept commentary here that you lack the core qualifications to comment: you are a tyro, after all.

      Yup.\

      AIR FORCE 43, ARMY 7

It was a crisp night at West Point, and Army started strong but just couldn’t stay with service academy rival Air Force. The Falcons clobbered the Black Knights. But comraderie abounded and was glad to be there.

Game ball was delivered by USMA Black Knight world champion parachute team, escorted by two AFA sky divers. Right to the 50 yard line from 5000 ft out of a Blackhawk helicopter — at night.

Maybe some of you should actually read Public Law 107-243, as mentioned above. I’m not going to educate you since it wouldn’t sink in. You throw out details as fact and you all jump on the bandwagon of someone who has no idea about how things really happened. The following is a snippet of the Law. If you read it, you will see that the “Law” that Bush relied on to attack Iraq is filled with total lies, but I’m sure that doesn’t matter to any of you pro-Republican, war-loving mongers. You’ll change the subject again to fit your senseless responses.

“Whereas Iraq both poses a continuing threat to the national security of the United States…by, among other things, continuing to possess and develop a significant chemical and biological weapons capability, actively seeking a nuclear weapons capability, and supporting and harboring terrorist organizations. …”

      “Whereas members of al Qaida, an organization bearing responsibility for attacks on the United States, its citizens, and interests, including the attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, are known to be in Iraq;

I’ll leave it at that, lest I be one of those people who spends all day writing chapters of crap on here to impress everyone…

YES, LET’S ACTUALLY READ PUBLIC LAW 107-243…

tyro-observer hangs his hat on the usual WMD argument, ignoring FACT that US forces found bio weapons in Iraq. And I guess further forgets about Saturday’s NYT report indicating as of 2002, that Iraq was approx 1 yr away from developing nuclear capability.

Let’s then be treated to ongoing fallacy that 9/11 co-conspirators DO NOT claim Iraqi addresses. An outright lie. Of course they do. Grease spots left in Iraqi deserts by Predator acts attest to same.

      OK.

What about dozens of remaining points in US resolution pointing to and ratifying the USE OF MILITARY FORCE IN IRAQ?

      HHhhmmm?

The violations of UN resolutions (how many: 17)? Acts of war against coalition forces? Failure to allow UN weapons inspectors access? Assasination attempt against former US President? Use of WMD against own citizens…?

You’re right, I can’t read or understand “the law.”

Those idiots in Congress should have NEVER authorized military action against Iraq. Guess they were persuaded when they learned about Uday’s rape rooms. Or maybe it was the child torture rooms set up for the children of Saddam’s political opponents, complete w/ miniature sized implements designed to inflict pain on children.

How’s life in the spider hole, tyro?

You should feel proud of yourself, being an apologist for a band of rapists and child-torturers, and all.

NOW!,you better learn this line by heart!ALLAH AKHBAR!when you hear it mabey it’s time to get of the bus!!or of the plane or out of the store or out of the building or of the train or of the street or of the…………………..you get my drift!!!when we leave it we better leave it pretty!!for our sake as well as theirs!

    30. Ramlady on November 6th, 2006 6:26 pm

#29; DHog; Who is this “WE?” “WE shouldn’t have gone there in the first place….WE better leave it pretty for OUR sake as well as theirs.” Who is “WE” Dutchhog? You ARE Dutch aren’t you?? You sould like an American with all this WE talk. Last time I checked there were no Dutch troops in Iraq. So who is WE?? BTW, how would you recommend getting off a plane in mid-air or out-running a bomb when you hear the words “ALLAH AKHBAR!!!???” One last thing Dutchhog, your English has gotten so much better amazingly FAST!!! Still some misspelled words here and there, but your syntax has improved dramatically in the last couple weeks you have been posting. I know you were just kidding about not teaching little girls to read. I’m sure IF you had little girls, you would want the best for them…..right??

Like I said earlier, since there is nothing to dispute what I’ve written, you go off the deep end…and now you’re taking all of your friends with you. ROFL. I wonder if any of you (and I’m convinced that many of you are really one person using different names on here) actually read the NY Times article. I have and it does not at all say what you claim. If it did, it would be the hottest topic of every right-wing news program (which is most of them), especially right before the elections. Aren’t any of you brilliant bulbs wondering why the article is mainly the stuff of bloggers and not the news shows? Probably because you are getting your information from other bloggers and not from the sources themselves.

I’m having a picnic watching you people trip all over yourselves and it’s been fun. But, I can’t keep beating a dead horse. Go get the article and read it as though you have an ounce of intelligence. Maybe you’ll get it this time. Nice chatting with all of you. Toodles!

      TOODLES, TYRO-OBSERVER…

Thanks for taking the time to “educate” all of us who can’t read “the law.”

Please come back when the UN decides to prosecute President Bush for war crimes. After all, as a charter member of the UN, the USA is not “supposed” to wage a “pre-emptive” war without UN approval. Since you were there following the action, and none of us can understand what happened, can you explain why the UN took 6 months — after the Congress of the United States passed US LAW 102-743 with an overwhelming majority in October of 2002 — to essentially do…nothing?

Didn’t the first bomb hit on St Patrick’s Day, 2003?

Erin go bragh. And don’t let the door smack your ass on the way out.

If you ever get yourself to a church, stop in and say a prayer for the teenaged American girls jumping out of Blackhawk helicopters with guns looks for “insurgents” to kill — in defense of your right to post seditious blather on blogs in the middle of the night.

      .

      #32; hammer:

Omnipot gets his/her/its “facts” from the NY Times, that wonderfully unbiased, unabashedly liberal, scandal-ridden rag/bird cage liner with the shameful anti-American slant on every story on every page!! Now it’s MY turn to ROFLMAO!!! As if the New York Times had ANY credibility left….. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

      #31; Omnipot:

Hey Omnipot, please impart some more of your brilliant wisdom to us, the great unwashed masses. Tell us please, since you are the final authority, what does Stewart Smalley from that bankrupt Air America (ROFLMAO again!!!) have to say on this matter?? Even better, what about that blithering idiot Michael Moore? HAHAHA!! While you’re at it, maybe you could quote some Olbermann too. You are good for comic relief if nothing else. Nighty night.

    34. dutchhog on November 7th, 2006 3:05 am

ramlady, what are you kidding?or what?don’t take anything so literally and recognise a joke when you see one!!!the dutch are one of the biggest forces in the south of afganistan!!the south of afganistan is under command of a dutch general, right now!!therefore the WE part is not really misplaced now is it!about the executions!,i was emphasizeing the horror the land was in, even before the war!and if WE leave it now it will turn back to the way it was ,or even worse!i spend a lot of time in european chatrooms and the only language everybody speaks and understands is english,so syntactically i fall on my ass sometimes!!sue me!and WE WILL drag their ass and their retarded culture into the 21st century!!kicking and screaming if we have to!!

    35. Ramlady on November 7th, 2006 9:15 am

#34; DHog; Helloooo–the subject is Saddam Hussein, the ex-leader of IRAQ, not Afghanistan. I know there are Dutch troops in Afghanistan, but the story is about the conviction of Saddam. I don’t believe anyone mentioned Afghanistan–so, as I said, who is this “WE never should have gone there in the first place?” You are not having trouble keeping your many nicks straight, are you…?

    36. omnipotentobserver on November 7th, 2006 11:55 am

#33: I just had to comment one more time. Someone couldn’t get over how you are tripping over yourself again, so I came back to see for myself. This is a riot. Ramlady…you just blasted one of your alter-egos. You know, Hammer, the one who wrote in #25:

“tyro-observer hangs his hat on the usual WMD argument, ignoring FACT that US forces found bio weapons in Iraq. And I guess further forgets about Saturday’s NYT report indicating as of 2002, that Iraq was approx 1 yr away from developing nuclear capability.”

Ram…alamadingdong…if you could read, you would see that I was the one who was disputing the interpretation of the NYT’s article that Hammer was quoting. It was Hammer who was using it to back up HIS argument.

Now, let’s see you go after Hammer…ROFL…with your comment in #33:

“that wonderfully unbiased, unabashedly liberal, scandal-ridden rag/bird cage liner with the shameful anti-American slant on every story on every page!! Now it’s MY turn to ROFLMAO!!! As if the New York Times had ANY credibility left….. HAHAHAHAHA!!!”

I started this thread and now I bid you ado…can’t see anymore I’m laughing so hard!!!! :)

    37. Ramlady on November 7th, 2006 5:38 pm

#37; Well, wipe your beady little eyes o’foolish one and pay attention this time (as if you could–HAHAHA). You are obviously a look-down-your-nose, head-up-your-ass sniveling little liberal who more than likely resides in a blue state full of clueless, arrogant people just like yourself. People like you are totally unaware just how big of a joke the rest of the country thinks the NY Times and other liberal rags really are. Hammer quoting the NY Times article was his way of showing you that even your beloved little anti-American rag that you hold so dearly REPORTED that Iraq was one year away from developing a nuclear weapon. If EVEN the NY Times, who is ALMOST always anti-American, anti-war, anti-Bush, would report that, it must be true. Now, I bid you ado (a final one I hope) from an insignificant little place in Flyover Country.

    38. Ramlady on November 7th, 2006 6:00 pm

I know how easily you are confused Omnipoot; my last comment was in reply to your rant #36, not #37. You know it is SOOOOO hard to type with one’s knuckles dragging the ground and all.

    39. dutchhog on November 8th, 2006 5:03 pm

ramlady, it’s all the same war!and it’s believed that there are more potentially terrorists in northern afganistan then anywhere else!and the conviction of saddam is not an american affair but a worldwide one!just like this war!and it’s funny you bashing the NYtimes and probably the washington post to!what about CNN! they are the only international papers and tvstation in the world which are recognised as the best on the planet!well?as long as you got your national enquirer you’re happy!RIGHT?LOL!! what do you mean with many nicks?

    40. Ramlady on November 9th, 2006 1:59 am

#39; DHog: It’s all the same war huh….go tell that to the libs screaming that Iraq has NOTHING to do with the war on terror. No CNN for me. No NY Times for me. Feel free to entertain yourself with these if you like…..or your National Enquirer.
