Obamamessiah Day an Annual Holiday in Small Central Alabama County … Misguided Recognition

File this one under … please tell me how people sitting around not working, not showing initiative and being idle shows anyone a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved. Recognition is one thing; however, this is completely misguided.

The Perry County Commission in Alabama voted 4 to 1 to observe the second Monday in November as “The Barack Obama Day.”    You mean it is not already a National holiday? What, they have not started printing money with Obama’s face on all forms of US currency? Honestly, how ignorant can some people be in their zest to praise The One, the Obamamessiah. Lost by the commission is fact that Obama Day will cost to the county much, which has a $2.2 million annual payroll and is one of the poorest in the state. In these tough economic times, this is how a state municipality wisely uses their money?  Maybe they will get in line for a Federal bail out, after all it’s an important cause.

A small central Alabama county whose mainly black residents gave Barack Obama more than 70 percent of the vote on Election Day has created an annual holiday in honor of the president-elect.
The Perry County Commission voted 4 to 1 to observe the second Monday in November as “The Barack Obama Day.” County offices will close and its roughly 40 workers will get a paid holiday.

The sponsoring commissioner, Albert Turner Jr., said the holiday is meant to highlight the Democratic president-elect’s victory as a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved.

The majority of the county’s 12,000 residents are black.

The county commission’s three black members and one of its two white members voted for the resolution.

Or wait, is there space already being reserved at Mount Rushmore for Obama’s face to be carved in stone even though he has actually yet to accomplish anything other than being elected President.

Reason for the Season??? Furious Parents Attack Santa and his Elves at Lapland New Forest … ‘Winter Blunderland’

File this one under, what the hell is wrong with people? This time the lack of Christmas Santa_laplandfestive cheer occurs in England. It appears that Santa and his elves are not immune to disgruntled “Holiday” cheer in England as a soccer game brawl breaks out at Lapland New Forest. Folks, ya have a right to be angry, you have a right to demand your money back. You have a right to voice your displeasure at what appears to be “Crapland, instead of Lapland” … you do not have a right to assault Santa and his Elves … GEEZ!!! That is correct, disgruntled parents attacked Santa and his elves. Could people possible show some restraint? Just a reminder to the parents that took their children to Lapland New Forest, that is not the reason for the season and neither are your actions and responses to this theme park.

Now the elves have started brawling with the customers.

And Santa himself is nursing a punched nose after a disappointed visitor got tired of queuing in the mud to see him.

Three elves – one a 17-year-old girl – are said to have been involved in violent confrontations.

Santa was punched by a furious father who had been waiting in line for four hours,’ he said. ‘He had got to the front only to be told he couldn’t take a picture of his children and that they weren’t allowed to sit on Santa’s lap.

‘The family were then told they would have to get in another queue to get their presents. That was the final straw.

Black Friday Takes on New Meaning … WALMART Worker Trampled to Death in Black Fridays Stampede in Long Island, NY

Savage behavior at Long Island Wal-Mart … Where to go on Black Friday for bargains. The Valley Stream Wal-Mart should not have been on the list.

Folks, is it worth killing someone to get a bargain? Is the purchase of any material gift worth trampling over your fellow man? Does anyone think that maybe everyone needs to step back and take a long hard and good look as to what is the “reason for the season.”

What the hell is the matter with people? What the hell is the matter with stores that would allow shoppers to pile in by the 100’s at once as if it was a 1970’s Who concert? A WALMART employee was trampled to death and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers charged through the doors at a Valley Stream, Long Island Walmart.

WTF … Peace on Earth Good Will Toward Man???

A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.

The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

“He was bum-rushed by 200 people,” said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. “They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too…I literally had to fight people off my back.”

Maybe they would even like to listen to Linus Van Pelt as to what Christmas is all about

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.’”

UPDATE I: Mall Madness! Worker Trampled by Shoppers, Dies

Everyone says “Black Friday” is the day to shop until you drop, but police in Valley Stream, N.Y., were forced to take that message literally.

Detectives said a 34-year-old Walmart employee died when a throng of shoppers entering the store on Green Acres Road knocked him to the ground.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 6 a.m., police said. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING From Scared Monkeys … Thanksgiving Declaration from George Washington 1789

Scared Monkeys wishes everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and remember what you Thanksgiving2008are thankful for today. On Thanksgiving we think of sitting down with family, turkey, stuffing, parades, football games and pumpkin pie. We think of the stories of pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving. Most of all, we remember to give thanks

A history of Thanksgiving. However, let’s take a moment to remember the Thanksgiving Proclamation from George Washington from October 3, 1789 and what gave us the present day holiday of Thanksgiving. They just don’t write speaches like this today … maybe “they” should start.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor — and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be– That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks -for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation–for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war–for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed–for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted–for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions– to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually–to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord–To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us–and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Just in Time for the Christmas Season … ‘Why Believe in a God?’ Ad Campaign on Buses

More attacks against the reason for the Season …

“Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion.”

Why_believe_in_god2

Coming soon to a bus near you in the Washington, DC area during the Christmas season … Why believe in a God? Just be good for goodness’ sake”. The campaign against Christmas, Christ and God is in full holiday swing. Under the guise of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists feeling alone during Christmas, the American Humanist Association has begun a $40,000 ad campaign against God and religion. The agnostics have want to take their atheism message for a ride this year. Pay close attention to their anti-God message as its not just about personal morality. Think its not, check out the double talk.

Edwords said the purpose isn’t to argue that God doesn’t exist or change minds about a deity, although “we are trying to plant a seed of rational thought and critical thinking and questioning in people’s minds.”

The group defines humanism as “a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism, affirms our responsibility to lead ethical lives of value to self and humanity.”

Maybe if agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists found God and Jesus Christ in their lives, maybe, just maybe they would not feel so empty, so useless and so alone. Christmas is about the birth of Christ, why wouldn’t people who claim they have no belief in it feel alone? For people who claim to use reason and rational thought, that hardly seems the case. Folks, find God … he loves ya and maybe you would not feel so alone. Just a thought.

Ads proclaiming, “Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness’ sake,” will appear on Washington, D.C., buses starting next week and running through December. The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.

In lifting lyrics from “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” the Washington-based group is wading into what has become a perennial debate over commercialism, religion in the public square and the meaning of Christmas.

“We are trying to reach our audience, and sometimes in order to reach an audience, everybody has to hear you,” said Fred Edwords, spokesman for the humanist group. “Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion.”
