Authorities say a man was killed and three women wounded in a shooting at Tennessee State University in Nashville Thursday night.

The gunman was at large early Friday, the campus was on lockdown and classes were cancelled for the day.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s verified Twitter account, the gunfire was apparently prompted by a dispute over a dice game in an outdoor courtyard.

In a statement, the school said two males who weren’t TSU students “may have been gambling. It is reported the two exchanged gunfire and one was fatally wounded.”

Really, you would kill some one over a dice game? What may make this incident even more disturbing is that neither of one the individuals involved in the shooting, the victim or the suspect, were TSU students. Then why the hell were they on campus putting actual TSU students at risk?

75 Year Old Army Vet James Vernon Saves 16 Children From Knife Attack by 19 Year Old Dustin Brown at at Morton Public Library in Illinois

SCARED MONKEYS HERO OF THE WEEK … 75 YEAR OLD RETIRED VETERAN JAMES VERNON.

75 year old US military vet James Vernon saves that day as he fought off a crazed knife wielding lunatic, 19 year old Dustin Brown, and saved 16 children at a public library in Illinois. James Vernon was teaching a chess class with 16 children at Morton Public Library when authorities say 19-year-old Dustin Brown entered the room with two knives. That is when the 75 year old vet took action. Vernon suffered “two cut arteries and a tendon” while defending the kids and credited his knife-fighting skills he learned in the US Army for allowing him to delay Brown enough to get the kids to safety. According to a court affidavit, Dustin Brown told police afterward that he “failed in his mission to kill everyone.” Thanks to the efforts of hero James Vernon. Brown was ordered held on $800,000 bond pending a November 5 court appearance on charges of attempted murder, armed violence, aggravated battery to a person over age 60 and burglary for entering the library with intent to commit a crime. This POS is also due in court Monday, Oct 22 on child pornography charges filed against him in March.

Pekin Daily Times:

Sixteen children and a handful of their mothers found the only door to their library room blocked by a man who held hunting knives in each hand as he screamed, “I’m going to kill some people!”

Dustin Brown, 19, specifically wanted to kill children Tuesday at Morton Public Library, he said after the would-be victims escaped safely.

Had he brought a firearm instead, “It would’ve been a different story,” James Vernon said Thursday.

Blood was shed, but mostly Vernon’s, because the retired chess club teacher kept his cool, gave his class an avenue of flight and remembered the knife-fight training the Army gave him five decades ago.

Vernon, 75, won his “90 seconds of combat” with Brown, “but I felt like I lost the war,” he chuckled. He cut two arteries and a tendon on Vernon’s left hand as Vernon blocked Brown’s knife swipe.

“I failed my mission to kill everyone,” Brown told police, according to a prosecutor’s court affidavit that accompanied formal charges Thursday that included attempted murder.
