Mountain Brook Grads Now at Vanderbilt Talk Natalee and Hope

In an interview from the Vanderbilt Hustler, two of Natalee’s friends speak out and provide their thoughts, opinions, and hopes regarding Natalee Hollow.

Mountain Brook High School, the school that Holloway attended, sent nine students to Vanderbilt this year, eight of which went on the traditional graduation trip to Aruba. The events that surrounded Holloway’s sudden disappearance from her graduation trip unfolded before the eyes of people everywhere this summer. The continuing investigations into the case brought the tiny island of Aruba, and the small city where Holloway was from, into the spotlight

The federal government dispatched helicopters, warships and elite SEAL water-rescue teams in one of the biggest relief operations in U.S. history, aimed at plucking residents from rooftops in the last of the “golden 72 hours” rescuers say is crucial to saving lives.

The words became even more grim as Mayor Ray Nagin speculated that thousands were feared drowned in New Orleans.

Authorities seeking woman in connection with Nita Mayo disappearance

According to News 4 Local News, The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office wants to question a woman in connection with the disappearance of Nita Mayo.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office wants Jewal Rice to question a woman in connection with the disappearance of Nita Mayo. Tuolumne County officials say they are interested in talking to 39-year-old Jewel Jeanne Rice of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mayo, a 64-year-old Hawthorne resident, was last seen when she left to go shopping near Sonora, California. Her car was later found abandoned in Tuolumne County. Officials say Rice, who also uses the alias Atencio, was in the area at the time of Mayo’s disappearance. They say Rice’s car may have had mechanical problems and that it is possible she was looking for help with her vehicle. Authorities are not calling Rice a suspect in Mayo’s disappearance, only that she may be a possible witness. She is described as being a white, female, standing 5’1″ tall and weighing 185 pounds. She has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Aruban Judge Delays Ruling in Van der Sloot Detention

According to sources, the Judge in Aruba did not give a ruling in today’s extension hearing for Joran Van der Sloot. He has until the deadline of September 4, Jorans release date, to do so.

Today Prosecutors requested a 30 day extension in the detainment of Joran Van der Sloot. Joran’s attorney, Antonio Carlo, said that Prosecutors presented what was characterized as two new allegations against his client. As the AP reported,

Carlo said prosecutors introduced two allegations of a “sexual nature” against van der Sloot. He declined to provide details on the allegations, but insisted they were not new.

“We don’t consider them new circumstances,” he said. “They have been in the file for about two months.”

Prosecutors could not be reached for comment.

However, we understand from sources that one of the accusations involved the Natalee Holloway case while the other one pertained to an unrelated sexual matter. Joran’s attorney stated that both of these issues were already included in the Prosecutions original accusations.

Everyone Must Leave New Orleans

The governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, says “everyone needs to leave New Orleans due to flooding from Hurricane Katrina“. The refugees that were held up in the Lousiana Super Dome are now be relocated to the Houston AstroDome. The NO Super Domeaftermath of Hurricane Katrina is beyond anyone’s imagination. It is just impossible to imagine that an entire city let alone Gulf Coast area has to be relocated.

The governor of Louisiana says everyone needs to leave New Orleans due to flooding from Hurricane Katrina. “We’ve sent buses in. We will be either loading them by boat, helicopter, anything that is necessary,” Gov. Kathleen Blanco said. Army engineers trying to plug New Orleans’ breached levees struggled to move giant sandbags and concrete barriers into place, and the governor said Wednesday the situation was growing more desperate and there was no choice but to abandon the flooded city.
