Taking the Concept of Fire & Brimstone too Literally
Rev. Harold Hunter and Patricia Hunter were arrested yesterday and are being charged with arson in a fire that gutted their church last week.
The Monday arrests of The Rev. Harold Hunter and Patricia Hunter came just one day after the pastor gave a sermon in which he said he prayed for the “sick, sadistic” person who burned down the church. No one was hurt in the blaze.
I guess the lesson learned for potential arsonist is make sure you you don’t sill the gas everywhere before setting fire to the dwelling.
“We found some gas that was located on the pastor’s shoes and we also found clothing in the residence that had gasoline on it,” said Summerville Police Capt. Craig Legates.
Blogs UP, Old Media Down (aka There’s a New Sheriff in Town)
The new media, Pajamas Media, is going mainstream. The timing couldn’t be better.
In a dramatic sign that Web logs are going mainstream, three of the largest political blogs are banding together to form what is believed to be a first-of-its kind ad-supported network.
the three – ArmedLiberal.com, RogerLSimon.com, and LittleGreenFootballs.com - will receive editorial advice from the owner of one of the most heavily trafficked blogs, Instapundit.com’s Glenn Reynolds, among others.
Looks like we have the next step in the evolution of blogging.
The idea of Pajamas Media is to use an extensive network of globally affiliated blogs to provide first-person, in-depth coverage of most major news events, including both camera and video footage, Roger Simon said.
With 162 affiliate blogs in dozens of different countries, according to Mr. Simon, the new venture will have the ability to get “in the middle of stories” that major news organizations can’t, “because our affiliates will have a physical proximity, language, and cultural knowledge that the Associated Press man will often lack.”
Oh to be a fly on the wall at the MSM Network board rooms these days or as posted earlier today what must the Newspaper outlets be thinking?
Michelle Malkin seems to have the same opinion as “the news of this groundbreaking venture comes as newspaper circulation figures plummet.” Count Michelle in and her pajama-clad-self.
Birthday Party Beating; So Much For Out of Control Parents at Little League Games
We hear of the out of control parents at Little League baseball games an hockey where they just take their kids actions just a bit too serious. That is before this story where we have out of control mothers at a birthday party that thought it proper to gibe a birthday beating.
Two women received maximum prison sentences Monday for their roles in the savage beating of a 12-year-old girl at a birthday party, an attack prompted by a kiss on the cheek from a boy acting on a dare.
Monique Baldwin, 37, was sentenced to 30 years after pleading guilty in March to first-degree assault and second-degree child abuse for instigating other children at the party to beat Nicole Townes, who went into a three-week coma after the attack.
Baltimore Circuit Judge Kaye Allison said she ordered the maximum sentences to send a message that the women’s “incomprehensible” behavior won’t be tolerated.
Before sentencing, Baldwin and Keene wiped tears from their eyes as prosecutor Julie Drake recounted the beating. Baldwin told other children at the February 2004 sleepover to beat Nicole, instructing them: “Don’t stop until she bleeds.”
I am actually at a loss for words on this one. Thank God we had a judge in this case that did the right thing and put these animals away for a long time. Who thinks to do this to a child?
Dave says we exist because we exist , not to exist to justify the mainstream media.
The Lawyer is saying that the media needs the blogs to keep themselves viable.
Government Ethics? One of the Shortest Books Ever Written
I had commented earlier that did the Democrats really want to pursue the Tom De Lay ethics issues? How out there does not think that pretty much every politician whether they be Republican, Democratic or Independent do not have lobbyist, ethics skeletons in their closets? Well this week it appears to be Representative Norm Dicks (D-WA) who gets outed. According to the Drudge Report:
The controversy over lobbyist-funded Congressional travel has brushed yet another Member. Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) took a five-day jaunt to Miami in February. The original travel disclosure Dicks’ office filed with the House Clerk listed the sponsor as the Spectrum Group, a defense lobbying firm in Alexandria, Va.
That would be a violation of House Rules, ROLL CALL reports on Monday.
And in recent days, Dicks’ office has appended two “corrections” to its initial filing.
The upshot is that Dicks, who sits on the House Appropriations subcommittee on Defense and the Homeland Security panel, has decided to pick up the tab.
That response is not satisfactory to one leading ethics watchdog.
“Reimbursing a lobbyist is not an acceptable option,” said Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. “It’s the concept that everybody does it — but that isn’t an excuse.”
Lobbyists and lobbying firms are prohibited from funding Congressional travel for Members or staff, even if they later get reimbursed by an entity that is allowed to pay, such as lobbyists’ clients, including corporations and trade associations.
On April 27, Dicks’ press secretary, George Behan, said that Dicks had filed an amended travel report that changed the name of the trip’s sponsor from Spectrum to Raydon Corp., a Dayton Beach, Fla.-based client of Spectrum that makes military training simulators.
Gregory Sharp, president of the Spectrum Group, did not return multiple phone calls last week. A Raydon spokesman said he would look into the trip but did not follow up.
On April 27, Behan also said that one of Dicks’ staffers made the change “when she saw the reimbursement come in from Raydon.”
But he later contradicted that.
Developing…
If we really want to get the money out of politics, campaign finance was never the answer … TERM LIMITS ARE.
