Yes We Have No “Cocaine” Bananas
I guess Dr. Ruth may have been wrong when she made the comment at the sex-ed seminar I attended in college .
Sometimes a banana “ISN’T” just a banana.
Short Lived Truce Indeed
That did not last long. But did any “right” thinking person really think it would? So much for all the good will and praise espoused by the 7 dwarves x 2. They spoke of their wants and dreams and aspirations. Did they bother to talk about the fact that Republicans and Democrats have differing agendas and there is no place for a moderate agenda on either side? This harmony and truce on a filibuster had about as much chance of succeeding as a Palestinian-Israeli cease fire.
So much for the era of good feeling in the U.S. Senate. After weeks of fighting, a pact among Republican and Democratic moderates to forestall a meltdown over judicial nominees seemed to hold promise for a new period of cooperation.
Three days later Democrats united to delay the confirmation of John R. Bolton as U.N. ambassador, and the recriminations started right up again.
“This filibuster is particularly disheartening after all the expressions of good faith,” said Sen. Jon Kyl
How anyone thought that the filibuster compromise was accomplishing anything but delaying the inevitable is beyond me. Moderates, welcome to a place I like to call Earth.
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, called the deal by 14 senators a “truce, not a treaty,” suggesting that the nuclear option — the catch phrase for a Republican proposal to strip Democrats of their right to block final votes on judicial nominees — can be taken off the shelf.
The Bolton block by Senate Democrats is rather peculiar seeing that just a couple of days ago they were singing a different song.
Democrats agreed on Tuesday to clear the way for the Senate to vote on the controversial nomination of John Bolton as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, which was expected to pass mainly on party lines.
The Senate is to open debate on Wednesday on Bolton, the top U.S. diplomat for arms control and outspoken critic of the United Nations, who has been described by President Bush as the right man to press for reforms at the world body.
Well we all know what happened on Thursday when the Cloture Vote on John Bolton failed. “The honeymoon is over,” Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) said sharply as he left the floor moments after senators voted 56 to 42 in favor of ending debate on Bolton’s nomination. Do you think moderate Republicans like the 7 dwarves can start acting like Republicans and understand that the words and promises of Senate Democrats cannot be trusted? Personally I think they are hopeless. I guess they enjoy being played for the fool.
Viagra; Use It and Lose It?
Who would ever have thought this childhood myth was actually true? Who knew? Now there might actually be a link between the use of Viagra and blindness.
The Food and Drug Administration still is investigating, but has no evidence yet that the drug is to blame, said spokeswoman Susan Cruzan.
The FDA has 50 reports of the blindness. Viagra has been taken by more than 23 million men worldwide.
“We take this seriously,” said FDA’s Cruzan
I’m glad they are because I am finding it very difficult to. So it seems are some more people. Begging to Differ says, “DON’T DO THAT, YOU’LL GO BLIND: In what has all the earmarks of an urban myth gone out of control.” Cutting to the Chase, “If You Don’t Stop It You’ll Go …”. And the Moderate Voice brings us the following:
Then came the news that in rare cases Viagra could cause blindness. This could mean that in the 21st Century aged mothers would warn their sons: “If you do Viagra you’ll go blind.”
I just wonder out of those 23 million male users, how many of them are willing to take the risk? One could only imagine what would happened if these drugs were ever pulled from the market.
I seriously do wonder whether Viagra type drugs do cause blindness as there would be many in the porn industry wearing dark glasses and carrying walking sticks canes.
Patterico’s Pontifications, brings up a rather interesting point that I had thought of earlier. Seems like the medication would fit the crime.
What’s all the fuss over giving Viagra to sex offenders? Won’t they be less likely to re-offend if they go blind?
Zarqawi; Alive, Wounded or Dead?
The questions regarding the state of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi still seem to be swirling. The reports have gone from near death to recovering to a flesh wound. One report from Newsday states Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been badly wounded and his lieutenants are engaged in a power struggle over who would replace him if he dies.
The two top contenders to succeed the Jordanian-born al-Zarqawi are Iraqis who served as military officers in Saddam Hussein’s regime, said the official, who asked not to be named. If one of these men ascended to the leadership of al-Zarqawi’s group, al-Qaida in Iraq, it would illustrate that the different strands of the Iraqi insurgency are melding together.
The official said al-Zarqawi was likely a main target of the U.S. attack, dubbed Operation Matador, which lasted May 8-15 and focused on a mainly Sunni Muslim region around Qaim. On Tuesday, a Web site known as a clearinghouse for Islamic militants posted a statement saying al-Zarqawi had been wounded and urging Muslims to pray for his recovery.
“That Internet statement was a first step toward announcing his eventual death,” said the Iraqi official.
Already, several of al-Zarqawi’s deputies are jockeying to replace him, according to the official and reports in the Arabic press. The pan-Arab newspaper Al-Hayat reported Thursday that at least five associates were competing to lead al-Qaida in Iraq.
Then there is the other side that states that is nothing wrong with Zarqawi and he is back in good health and handling operations.
Iraq’s al Qaeda said on Friday its leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was in good health and was back leading operations in Iraq after being wounded, according to a statement posted on the Internet. “Our Sheikh is in good health and is running the jihad (holy war) himself and has been overseeing the details of operations up to the time this statement was prepared,” a group spokesman said in a posting issued on Islamist Web sites.
The BBC adds, Confusion over Zarqawi’s fate
Conflicting news has since then appeared about his whereabouts and whether his group has nominated a successor or not.
The Tuesday statement sparked a stream of speculation ending in two contradictory claims which appeared on Thursday about a possible successor.
The unconfirmed reports have yet to be verified whether this may be a great success for the Iraqi government and the coalition forces or a moral boost. Or is it just a ploy by Zarqawi to spread false information as they come under increasing pressure from American-Iraqi operations?

Our Immigration Enforcement Hard at Work
Illegal immigration is the hot topic of the day. The excuse to allow it focuses on “jobs that no American is willing to do”. However, what is the crime element to the illegals that are in the US?
What does it take for Immigration to finally realize that their are a dangerous illegal’s in the Country?
One would think that three burglary arrests might do it?
No, it took indicted as an adult on six felony charges, including attempted murder, sexual battery and kidnapping.
Such was the case for Milagro Cunningham, a Bahamian native, who escaped the notice of immigration authorities as his burglary charges were handled by the juvenile justice system. Milagro Cunningham then decided to escalate his crimes.
A 17-year-old Lake Worth teenager charged with raping an 8-year-old girl and leaving her for dead at an abandoned landfill is in the United States illegally, officials determined.
Cunningham allegedly snatched the girl from her godmother’s apartment, where he had been sleeping on the couch after leaving the nearby home of his aunt and uncle about four months ago.
In Sunday’s frantic search, the girl spent about seven hours buried under debris in a trash bin. Searchers discovered her when they saw part of a foot and hand at the old landfill. A college scholarship fund has been created for the victim.
All this created by the loop holes and failings of our court system and immigration enforcement.
“If he had been booked into the main jail, he would have been checked,” said Art Bullock, U.S. Border Patrol chief in West Palm Beach.
This is reassuring to know. I am sure the family of the 8 year old girl are pleased. Is someone going to tell me that illegal immigration is still just about jobs?
