Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi Says 500 Million a Month Will Lose Jobs Without Stimulus Package

Some people will say anything to get an unpopular bill passed …

Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated that 500 million Americans a month will lose their jobs unless we pass the pork heavy $900 billion dollar stimulus package. Is this fear mongering or just plain stupidity? Was this a gaffe on Pelosi’s part or is she willing to say anything to get this unpopular stimulus package through even if it means misrepresenting the fact?

Dr_Evil

500 Million American a month will lose their jobs

500 million Americans? Really? Last I checked and it appears that Stop the ACLU has the same stats, there are only approximately 300 million Americans living in the US. I realize that present day Congress cannot differentiate between millions and billions when it comes to taxing Americans; however, one would like to think that Nancy Pelosi knows how many people actually live in the United States. Talk about being out of touch with your constituents.

THE SKY IS FALLING, 500 MILLION AMERICANS

I seriously think that they have the power, or ineptness and the spite to make that happen.

Is there any way I can get a stimulus, you see my two grandcats need new beds!!!! this reminds me of the old movie with Steve Martin “The Jerk” (I think) where everyone comes begging for something when he comes into money; one guy needs new seat covers for his phane and he must have leather seats…

yep, the obamascam will never get off the ground. now all the higher ups that he owes will come calling. they may even send their leg breakers for a white house visit.
he owes the union big time and they don’t play street ball.

What we are seeing is the overspending by big business (yes, it is real and happens in a free market) leveling out.

Here’s my take. I work for an IT outsourcing company. 50% of our staff are from India working on green cards a heck of a lot cheaper than us. Some are quite bright, but the majority make a mess of a smooth running system and are sloppy. Yet, the companies keep them when American workers are out of jobs. That to me is a huge problem. Why should my American family be denied a job because someone who is not an American has it? that to me makes no sense.

Marx predicted we’d be destoyed from within. It’s already about done too. Now, if you’re an American who wants to put American’s first, bear arms, not promote social welfare, have the freedom to hire and fire as you choose while running your business as you choose…you are looked down upon as UNAmerican.

Personally, I think this is a plan the roots of would shock us all out of our minds if we understood the evil and power behind this mess our country has gotten itself in. And creeps like Pelosi are futher the cause.

The stimulus package is corporate welfare in disguise and just look at how wonderfully welfare has done to better the poor community.

Quite like Algore, Nancy can’t be bothered with
the lowly decimal point positioning problem.
Both she and Al are operating on a much higher
plain. In ‘politicken’, those things are referred
to simply as ‘details’ (to be resolved by lowly
minions). Hey, when you are throwing
around trillions of OPM who needs to tie themselves
      up with population minutiae?

Another bowl of Nobody Home Soup if you don’t mind!

Well, maybe she’s factoring in all 59 states that a certain president said we have. (Or a similar number.)

Brenda from Virginia (#4) … Another baffling item is one that I read today. A state legislator from Rhode Island proposed that illegal immigrants get special tuition subsidies.

I thought illegal immigrants were, by definition, breaking the law. So why they qualify for special treatment defies me.

    7. Richard on February 5th, 2009 10:58 am

By the way, Brenda from Virginia, some years ago I had a friend in high-tech who was adamant that the whole ‘labor shortage’ claim by companies was BS.

His take on it was that, purely and simply, the green-card thing was a way of holding down wages.

I’m not able to say one way or the other … but in the present economy, I don’t see that the program can be justified. And that is in no way a statement against people from abroad.

wait a minute… wasn’t pelosi one of the people shouting with outrage for the past few years that the republican party was using scare tactics with the american public?!?

these #s don’t mean a thing. there’s always a natural tide with jobs being lost in some sectors & created in others. while we may still be in a decline they can’t convince me that it’s this bad unless they add in new jobs.

i think pelosi’s botoxed a few of her brain cells…

a great portion of this stimulus package will ultimately be used as reparation for slavery 200 years ago. this is why it is so urgent for obama. he has made promises that he can’t keep or won’t keep and now he’s in neck deep.
you can buy the office of president but that does not mean that you are capable of running it.

Well now that we have 57 states (according to Obama) maybe there are 500 million people in America. Or could it be that the people that are in charge of this country are complete & utter morons?

    11. Brenda from Virginia on February 5th, 2009 1:46 pm

Richard, it is BS that there is a lack of qualified IT labor. My daughter graduated and was on President’s Honor Roll in college and since last May cannot find employment other than a few contract jobs building websites.

As for “qualified” labor, I do speak with the IGM techs and other support persons we depend on for troubles, and they say it’s the same everywhere, if you are from another country and willing to take less money…job is your REGARDLESS of whether or not they are truly qualified.

80% of the foreigners I work with couldn’t analyze the back of their hands…sorry, but it’s true. Yet, they are the driving force behind the IT systems in so many Fortune 500 companies! One of our major customer’s CEO’s made CEO of the year in Business Weekly I think it was. Funny thing is that their system is a disaster and they loose data all the time and have to reenter cuz of pathetic programming practices.

I am sure a college kid with some logic training would be a much better candidate for any of these jobs.

    12. Brenda from Virginia on February 5th, 2009 1:46 pm

OOPS! It was the IBM techs..am working at home and quite pooped today.

Pelosi is a moron’s moron. Look in your own FAILING back-yard.

500M per day when there is only 300+M Americans.

Talk about trying to spread FEAR!

    14. wg on February 5th, 2009 6:56 pm

I did hear Nancy say 500 million Americans per month will lose their jobs. I was going to say that there are probably not that many jobs left in America…

However after #13, it may take generations for Nancy’s prediction to come true…

“If you spent a million dollars every day since Jesus was born, you would have spent three-quarters of a trillion dollars.

A million seconds is about 11.5 days.

A billion seconds is about 32 years.

A trillion seconds is 32,000 years.”

      I snipped a bit -

I believe there is another reason – no business knowledge. IMHO – the “ignorance and mistakes” will be used if the companies every get audited by intelligent human beings, or bad things happen…

A ready excuse to avoid any appearance of criminal activity or wrongdoing…sometimes the reports just print XXX…we don’t know why.

Why would anyone knowingly hire people that have no business knowledge and hose things up? People right out of school that have a high turnover?

Did anyone understand derivatives? Maybe the IT systems were hosed up at all those banks, Freddie/Fannie, and TARP/bailout recipients. How far does the arm of justice go when the records/books/folks/systems are in India? Any chance they maintain adequate records? Supporting documentation? Business as usual?

Does anyone think there might be a problem?

      Criminal, deliberate, or ignorant acts?

Our country is being run by a bunch of buffoons. It is sad to think that the great country our forefathers built has come to the state it is in today. Larry, Moe and Curly could do better.

    18. katablog.com on February 5th, 2009 10:32 pm

Pat in AL: Ya think? I mean they only lost $78 billion of the first $350 billion by over paying for banking assets. Of course there’s no telling how much more has been lost by those assets deflating in the market. Maybe you are being too hard on them!

Oh BTW, according to the Democrats the stock market is suppose to crash tomorrow because they didn’t get the spending bill past. But the Democrat House members are on retreat in VA and the Senate is suppose to disappear tomorrow on a junket.

      Dear wg,

(quote: I believe there is another reason – no business knowledge. IMHO – the “ignorance and mistakes” will be used if the companies every get audited by intelligent human beings, or bad things happen…)
      ***************************

You gotta be in the IT field to know this. Yes, I’ve said MANY times to our mgmt that if we ever got a technical auditor in here who knew what they were doing, we would be sunk.

I think you are correct that many high-level execs have no working knowledge of business practice in the world of technology and what is required for a well run system. Sadly, it goes deeper. It’s also greed. They want the cheapest labor they can find and are idiots to do this. No wonder corporations are failing. They may save in the short run, but the high cost of fixing the problems, angering the customers when known issues cannot be fixed, it costs much more in the long run.

Also agree on the possibility our IT systems have been a target for terrorism. Technological terrorism I call it. Our data is no more safe than our boarders, and THAT is a fact you can believe. Most folks have no clue in the world how large a percentage of their credit card, banking, money transfers, and other confidential information goes straight to India or otherwise to be processed. Over there, the SOX (Sarbane’s Oxley) compliance standards are not adhered to and normally the entire development staff has full access to SSNs, acct nos., your personal ID information…you would be shocked.
