Powell has said that his decision to back Obama is not about race, really? Who is Powell kidding that his decision is about the negative turn of McCain campaign, back in September Powell made the following comment … “Colin Powell, the first African-American Secretary of State, said this afternoon that electing an African-American US president would be “electrifying” for the world …”
Because this is average, play nice, non-negative coverage of politics from the Left … Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show” tells Sarah Palin “F%#k You”. You a wit and vocabulary you have Jon Stewart. Sorry Mr. Stewart is you think that the pro-America part of the country does not include you. Do you have a guilty conscience? How ironic and ridiculous that an elitist like Stewart would become so offended that rural America is referred to as pro-America when Stewart makes a living trivializing small town America and the people who live there and referring to anyplace that is not where high browed city folk live as “the woods”.
Speaking to a college audience in Boston, Mass. Friday, “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart used his stand-up routine to respond to Sarah Palin’s comments about “pro-America” parts of the country, shedding the profanity restrictions that govern his Comedy Central show.
“She said that small towns, that’s the part of the country she really likes going to because that’s the pro-America part of the country. You know, I just want to say to her, just very quickly: [expletive] you,” Stewart said to raucous applause.
Palin addressed a North Carolina fund-raiser Thursday night saying, “We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe…that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation.”
I guess Colin Powell in endorsing Barack Obama missed that meanness and negativity, conveniently enough. Colin Powell stated that “he will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama, citing the Democrat’s “ability to inspire” and the “inclusive nature of his campaign.” I guess the Obama campaign and its surrogates like John Lewis calling McCain & Palin segregationalists like George Wallace and playing the race card at every opportunity is some how not mean spirited in Powell’s eyes and an attempt at being inclusive. Talk about making excuses.
Powell said he was concerned about what he characterized as a recent negative turn of Republican candidate Sen. John McCain’s campaign, such as the campaign’s attempts to tie Obama to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers.
“I think that’s inappropriate. I understand what politics is about — I know how you can go after one another, and that’s good. But I think this goes too far, and I think it has made the McCain campaign look a little narrow. It’s not what the American people are looking for,” he said.
How absolutely sad that anyone would think that inclusiveness meant calling people racists who did not agree with Barack Obama. It does not get any more divisive than that.

Given that comment by Jon Stewart (whoever he is) at what purports to be an institution of learning, any college or similar organization that asks him to speak again should be censured.
What makes his comments of interest, anyway … the fact that he has a TV show? Once again, celebrity has become the common currency in our culture.
What makes Stewart run? Is it that he got where he’s at by being intelligent, no, by being “funny” at other peoples expense, no, but by being foul mouthed and demonstrating everything that is wrong with this country. “Entertainers” who have real problems with their own sordid lives need to leave the real world to the intelligent and stop using their outlets to dispense their own opinions.
WHO IS JOHN STEWART ? A NOBODY.
I thinks its funny how Powell and others critize McCain for being negative and state that Obama isn’t. They haven’t figured out that the reason Obama doesn’t use more negative ads is because he has the MSM doing it for him….look at recent stories from the NY Times and others about Cindy McCain. How about the one where they said McCain had an affair with a Lobbyist…thats not only a negative attack but an outright lie.
McCain has to air Ads about Dubious Obama ties and policies because the MSM just won’t even try.
I’m convinced that we only see and hear what we want to see and hear.
I don’t understand why it’s “negative” or a “personal attack” to merely tell people the truth about their candidate and his relationships.
If McCain was attacking Obama’s children, only running negative information about Michelle or things in Obama’s life which have nothing to do with being president – I could see how that would be negative and unfair.
But bring up long standing relationships with people who also have political agendas is indeed important to the American voter. It tells them important details about the candidate and what his administration might look like.
The left is afraid of Sarah Plain. It’s that simple.
What’s really said is the number of people in this country that listen to the likes of Jon Stewart & Madonna. That is downright ignorance. What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

I live in Virginia and I voted last week at the registrar’s office on an absentee ballot and it was a breeze only nine people in line and it was quick and easy. Since VA is a battleground state I really dreaded the thoughts of loooong lines. Virginia is encouraging voters to consider voting early and if your states offer early voting you might want to consider it. I sure am glad I voted early.

Conservatives do not hold a monopoly on patriotism. Just because we hold different views from others does not mean that one side is “pro” and the other is “anti” this country.
Our country was founded on the principle of debate…of difference. Jon simply vocalized what people all around the country felt at being told they weren’t living in “pro” America areas. I love my country and I live in a city. My family has a long record of proud military service and a long line of dedicated public school teachers. Don’t tell me we aren’t “pro” America just because we live in a city and happen to disagree with Gov. Palin’s ultra conservative views.
Colin Powell’s decision to back Obama is ALL ABOUT RACE – plain and simple. Just like Oprah’s decision was. It has cost her millions of fans. I have not been “scared” or “frightened” into voting for EITHER candidate. I really (truth be told) was IMPRESSED with Barack Obama from the very first moment I saw him speak on his first televised appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show. I thought—Who IS this man?? Wow! What a breath of fresh air! I was excited about him. Then, in the weeks and months that followed- I spent many, many hours reading and doing proper research and I was put off by what I discovered. Then, over time- I read his books—listened to his speeches—followed his every move and public events. Little by little—it hit me. Wham! Like someone punched me in the gut. It took awhile to reason out and come to a conclusion- but- again- IMO only- the conclusion I reached was that this man is a fine enough human being- just not someone I am comfortable with as our President.

By the by……international crisis does not necessarily mean terrorist activity (although, given the history of these organizations, this is a possible scenario). International crisis could mean North Korea re-starting their nuclear program; could mean Russia attacking a neighboring country; could mean Iran testing ballistic missles; could mean Hugo Chavez conducting joint millitary exercises with Russia in the South Pacific,etc. Nearly every new President has faced a similar crisis within his first 6 months in office.
Biden’s comments were ill-timed. Sometimes you should not state the obvious. Even though it was un-spoken, his words apply to both candidates. Whom do you believe he was attempting to “scare”?

It is amazing when comparing the negative things said about the two candidates.
When people say negative things about Obama, it’s usually centered on his views, his policies, things he’s said, his relationships, things he’s written, etc. IMHO those are the right things to look at when evaluating a candidate for service to this country
When people say negative things about McCain is usually about his age, looks, formal education, personality, unfounded claims, etc. It’s rarely quoting something he said, with whom he associates or addressing one of his policies. This I see as simply character assassination having little to do with a person’s capabilities to serve his country.

API Pulls a Scam
A couple of days ago we found a story by API (African Press International) alleging that Michelle Obama had called them. The story is an obvious hoax unfortunately. API contended yesterday that there would be an announcement about the tapes at 16:00 hours, Norwegian time. That time has come and gone and absolutely no worthwhile announcement has been made. API has totally ruined their credibility.
It appears the Berg birth certificate story may also be a hoax.
These are despicable attempts to sway the American public’s vote. I’m all for knowing that both candidates are US Citizens illegible to vote, but I am totally against spreading rumors about either candidate and getting peoples’ hopes up that the candidate they don’t like will be disqualified.
I do not understand why Obama’s campaign hasn’t nipped this in the bud and produced a legal copy of his birth certificate, but at this point, I believe both API and Berg are misleading the public and stretching things out in order to influence the election.
I lost all respect for Colin Powell when I read this quote from an interview he did with GQ Magazine last year. According to Powell, we don’t need to worry about Muslim terrorists blowing up more Americans, what we really need to worry about is appearing as if we don’t welcome Muslims into our country. This man was Secretary of State?

“What is the greatest threat facing us now? People will say it’s terrorism. But are there any terrorists in the world who can change the American way of life or our political system? No…Only we can change ourselves.” Powell adds…that to improve its image in the world, the USA should focus on welcoming newcomers… Powell said the number of Arabs and Muslims who visit the U.S. has dropped since the attacks and reflected negatively on educational institutions and leisure destinations.
Arabs and Muslims complain of heavy security searches in U.S. airports and denial of access to the country. Many Arab students, mainly from Gulf Arab states, left the United States after the attacks on fears of discrimination. “This is bad, not good for America,” said Powell.

I won’t vote for Obama. I am not racist. It doesn’t matter what color he is. What does matter is that he thinks NO ONE can touch him. He is so “it’s all about me” that I personally can’t fathom him being the President. It doesn’t matter also, that mostly all of Hollywood is for him. Whomever they are for, I am against. Do we want some smooth, slick, arrogant, untrustworthy man as leader? Think about it. Will you feel safer with him, or with someone like McCain? He may be older, wiser, not in the “beautiful crowd”, to some people, but I think he would get the job done. Some people get by in this world on looks only. Some people want “change” and who wouldn’t? But, seriously, his change is unknown. That for one scares me.

You know, LIKE PALIN’s daughter and fiance are going to do. UNLIKE JAMIE LYNN SPEARS is planning on doing. THINK ABOUT IT! SPEARS was on the frickin’ DISNEY CHANNEL. She was being sold in the media as an young adult, teen role model. It’s not that she was having pre-maritial sex that I disapprove of—it’s the “disposable society” concept that I object to. The age thing—news flash for you—in my parent’s day—when the youth of the 40′s & 50′s became pregnant—they married! At the young ages of 16, 17, 18, 19…very common.
In today’s world—many women and couples are waiting to have children at an older age—but of course, couples who are dating and together do become pregnant at young ages. SO! My only point was:
DO THE RIGHT THING & get married and BE A RESPONSIBLE PARENT. What is it with this “living in sin” concept ?? While I certainly understand the reasons why many, many people do pass on the marriage licsence—all I am saying is that marriage happens to be something I believe in very much.

MBS…..be careful about painting things with such a broad stroke. It is okay to fear someone ideals, but it is not okay to fear someone’s nationality. Your comments above basically read: All Muslims and all Arabs are terrorists and should therefore be barred from the United States. 1) Not all Arabs are Muslim. There are actually Arab Christians living in countries like Lebanon and Jordan. 2) Not all Muslims are Arabs. There are large populations of Muslims living in Western Europe and the United States. Surely you would not ask all U.S. Muslims to face the choice to renounce their faith or leave our country? 3) Not all terrorists are either Muslim or Arab. Remember the IRA? Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols? The battle to combat terrorism should be about combatting ideals, not attacking zip codes! To approach it any other way puts us in grave danger.
A New Girl; regarding my sources. I have read “The Audacity of Hope” and apparantly I received different meaning from it than you did. As far as my “sources”, I probably peruse many of the same sources as most people. There is a good interview with Senator Obama in the October 30th Rolling Stone that gives some good insights. Heck…….today I even picked up “The Case Against Obama” for a few minutes today while I was at Barnes and Noble. I had to put it back down after a few pages as I feel the author editorialized too much within the script. Alas…….such is the state of modern media. It is nearly impossible to find truly objective reporting of anything, particularly a presidential election.
Kudos to your support of marriage. I worked in group homes with inner-city youth for 2 years. Not 1 kid came from a solid family foundation. Many of the kids had been born to parents that were too young to be having babies. They had children before they understood the responsibility that comes with it and the kids suffered as a result. Many of these kids ended up as wards of the state, with no approved discharge resoure until age 18. Nobody is talking about it during this election, but the child welfare system is heavily flawed, as is mental health care in general.
