Barack Obama’s Memorial Day Gaffe & Playing Politics with a Hero’s Day

By the way, what ever happened to that skilled orator Obama that the media fawned over for months? It hardly seems like he can’t ever get his foot out of his mouth these days.

Maybe some one would like to tell Barack Obama when one runs for the Presidency they are also running to be the Commander and Chief of our Armed Forces. That being said, maybe Obama may want to learn that Memorial Day is to honor our Country’s war heroes who have served and sacrificed to protect this great land. It would appear that Obama did not get the memo:

“On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong”. (Obama)

What is even more shameful as Power Line  points out was the disgraceful manner in how Obama sought to politicize the holiday.

What was really offensive about Obama’s New Mexico appearance, however, was what followed his very brief, but generally appropriate, tribute to America’s war dead. He continued with a town hall-style question and answer period that cast veterans in the only role with which the Democrats are comfortable–victims–and sought to politicize the holiday.

There is something very disturbing in the contrast how Democrats and Republicans honor our military heroes. The Gateway Pundit has the video of Obama’s speech.

Certain days are meant to be respectful and the spot light is to be put on others who have served and sacrificed, not for partisan politics. Compare Obama’s comments to President George W. Bush’s speech at Arlington National Cemetery.

He needs to be sent back physically to the sand dunes. His heart is already there. He is looking out for his own. The rest of the Americans are just being used by him; black and white. He has an agenda and it is not a black agenda or a white agenda, it is a muslim agenda. You vote for him and you are taking a chance on the freedoms that have been won by our American fallen and wounded. jackb

#1 – got anything to back up your assertion that Obama has a muslim agenda and he’s a muslim himself (“He is looking out for his own”)?

Btw – what is a “muslim” agenda?

Let me guess – because of his name he must be a muslim and of course we all know if he’s a muslim, he’s a terrorist. Lol.

Haha – how blatantly biased can you get? Why not compare Obama to McCain? Let me guess…because McCain played partisan politics in HIS Memorial Day speech.
Nah, McCain didn’t politicize his speech, only Obama did.
      Well, let’s see…
Uh oh…I guess McCain didn’t get the memo either:

“I also believe we should provide veterans with a substantial increase in educational benefits. I have joined with colleagues to offer legislation that will do just that. The bill we have sponsored would increase monthly education benefits to $1500; eliminate the $1200 enrollment fee; and offer $1000 annually for books and supplies. Importantly, we would allow veterans to transfer those benefits to their spouses or dependent children or use a part of them to pay down existing student loans. We also increase benefits to the Guard and Reserve, and even more generously to those who serve in the Selected Reserve.

I know that my friend and fellow veteran, Senator Jim Webb, an honorable man who takes his responsibility to veterans very seriously, has also offered legislation that would provide more generous benefits. Both Senator Webb and I are united in our deep appreciation for the men and women who risk their lives so that the rest of us may be secure in our freedom. And I take a backseat to no one in my affection, respect and devotion to veterans. I grew up in the Navy; served for twenty-two years as a naval officer; and, like Senator Webb, personally experienced the terrible costs war imposes on the veteran. The friendships I formed in war remain among the closest relationships in my life. The Navy is still the world I know best and love most.

But, as you might know, I am running for the office of Commander-in-Chief. That is the highest privilege in this country, and it imposes the greatest responsibilities. And this is why I am committed to our bill, despite the support Senator Webb’s bill has received. It would be easier politically for me to have joined Senator Webb in offering his legislation. More importantly, I feel just as he does, that we owe veterans the respect and generosity of a great nation because no matter how generously we show our gratitude it will never compensate them fully for all the sacrifices they have borne on our behalf.

The most important difference between our two approaches is that Senator Webb offers veterans who served one enlistment the same benefits as those offered veterans who have re-enlisted several times. Our bill has a sliding scale that offers generous benefits to all veterans, but increases those benefits according to the veteran’s length of service. It is important to do that because, otherwise, we will encourage more people to leave the military after they have completed one enlistment. At a time when the United States military is fighting in two wars, and as we finally are beginning the long overdue and very urgent necessity of increasing the size of the Army and Marine Corps, one study estimates that Senator Webb’s bill will reduce retention rates by 16 percent.”

No “politicizing” the holiday in that that speech. Nada.
      btw…here’s a shocker…Sen Webb is a Democrat.

In honor of tonight’s Bush-McCain fundraiser in Phoenix, in which no media is allowed (Gee, I wonder why? Wouldn’t want that photo op with Bush…but likes the cash I guess), let’s visit Mr. McCain’s “character”:

      AZ Republic 3/2007:
McCain recalls that both he and Cindy initially misled each other about their ages. McCain made himself a little younger, and Cindy made herself a little older. They found out their real ages when the local paper published them. McCain was 43, Cindy 25.
“So our marriage,” McCain cracks, “is really based on a tissue of lies.”
Early in the courtship, McCain called Cindy from Beijing, where he was traveling with a Senate Foreign Relations Committee contingent. Cindy was in the hospital recuperating from minor knee surgery. She thanked him for the lovely flowers in her room, sent from “John.”
What McCain didn’t tell Cindy was that he hadn’t sent the flowers. They were from another John, who lived in Tucson.
“I never thanked him,” Cindy notes with a grin.
After a whirlwind courtship, John asked Cindy to marry him. But there were some details to clear out of the way.
McCain needed a divorce from Carol, his wife of 14 years from whom he was separated. After McCain’s dramatic homecoming from Vietnam, the couple grew apart. Their marriage began disintegrating while McCain was stationed in Jacksonville. McCain has admitted to having extramarital affairs.

Worth the Fighting For: “Sound marriages can be hard to recover after great time and distance have separated a husband and wife. We are different people when we reunite,” McCain wrote. “But my marriage’s collapse was attributable to my own selfishness and immaturity more than it was to Vietnam, and I cannot escape blame by pointing a finger at the war. The blame was entirely mine.”

So…he’s admittedly immature, shelfish, and an adulterer.
This “war hero” appears to be something of a taitor in his personal life.
If character matters, McCain’s balance sheet is firmly in the red.
