Miss Teen South Carolina Laren Caitlan Upton Stumped by “Edumacation” Question

WOW. Although the pressure of being in the spot light can be humbling, this is a perfect reminder to always believe in your answer not just memorize it.

Miss Teen South Carolina, Lauren Caitlan Upton, found out the hard way that not all questions in beauty pageants are about world peace.

One thing is for certain, Laren Caitlan Upton, because of her gaff is now an internet You Tube sensation and is more of a house hold name than the actual winner.

The video actually brings out the very essence of the question. It was not about whether one could find the USA on a map, but more of education. The stumbling and stammering over her response kind of answered the question … didn’t it.

This is a shame that the young woman had to endure but then when she tried to put a spin on it the next day it wasn’t a whole lot better .
When we look at our education of the young in our system I believe that sometimes we should be very afraid and hope for the cream of the crop to rise to the top in leadership . For these will be our LEADERS of tomorrow .

I think Minnesota Dad above has hit the nail on the head. People don’t watch beauty pageants because the women are smart.

Nevertheless, this video was absolutely PAINFUL to watch. PAINFUL!

I thought it was about beauty not IQ. Just keep her away from the maps.

I will tell you from experience, its not easy to talk in front of the bright lights when there is an audience watching.

I do have to say though, part of her problem was she was trying to recall a rehearsed answer rather than just say what she believes.

Some free advice … believe in what you are saying as it makes public speaking much easier.

I will share later a great story about The Miss Teen Pagenat and Red’s brush with Miss Teen Fame. Let me add this was several years ago …

Oh big deal, she’s a kid. Look at our politicans, some of them provide us with a lot of entertainment. Teddy Kennedy comes to mind.

I agree the most embarrassing thing is that she tried to spit out a rehearsed answer. LOL

Hawaiian Tropic never asks their models heady questions. One must decide if they want the winner of these beauty pageants to represent their state as a calendar model or include the mind behind the face. As for the latter we must stop teaching these young ladies that all you need is a crisp smile to succeed in life. Winners of these pandering contests are awarded scholarships, and obviously Miss Teen South Carolina is in desperate need of an education.

I feel embarrassed for her just watching this. It;s just another example of a girl being told she’s beautiful her whole life and believing she doesn’t have to do anything or learn anything to be successful. And the sad thing is she’s probably right.

I do too she doesn’t really seem to have a clue about what she said.
