NBC to Donald Trump … “You’re Fired” … Unless we Have no Other Programming

Is NBC finally going to tell Donald Trump what he has said to so many others … You’re Donald_trumpFired! It appears that “The Apprentice” has finally run its course.

The future of his NBC series “The Apprentice” was cast into extreme doubt on Monday by the network’s announcement of a 2007-08 programming lineup that made no mention of Trump or the corporate-themed reality show he hosts.

Such an omission, coming at the outset of the networks’ annual “upfront” advertising market, would normally spell doom for a low-rated show like “The Apprentice.” But NBC executives refused to absolutely rule out an 11th-hour reprieve for Trump’s show.

The question was posed as to whether the  ”Apprentice” was now effectively dead, NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly insisted, “Not yet.” To the contrary, The Apprentice has been a mere shell of its original show for years. Over commercialism and nepotism had taken over what was initially an intriguing concept.

But the series has lost nearly two-thirds of its audience since its first and most successful run in the spring of 2004.

The problem with the show is obvious. It went from and interesting premise with actual business lessons that could be learned of the dog eat dog world of corporate America in to an infomercial and ego boost for Trump and his family. After the first two year the show was no longer about the potential Trump apprentice wannabes and only about Donald Trump. Thus the ratings went in a crashing downward spiral. We shouldn’t have to tell Mark Burnett this but then again maybe we do. Any attempt to have a “reality” TV show be successful, the contestants need to be engaging and the story, not the host.

I was hoping for a celebrity death match. Rosie vs the Donald.

Your right, it went for the Apprentice to the DONALD show, he lost me when he canned Carolyn. I did not find his kids too interesting, just eye candy….

Now if he really wants to save the show, have Invanna on there, she’ll kick his wig right off.

Donald, jr. is a total bore. Ivanka seems to have been fed her lines even though at times she’s right on.

But the candidates are very inferior. I mean some real dubs. The final challenges weren’t near as interesting as in the first two seasons. This last season in LA was the WORST. Boring, boring, boring.

I like Donald Trump more than Rosie, but I will not miss either one. They both got canned about the same time. lol

The show was good in the beginning, once they moved to LA I lost interest. I agree the show turned into a Trump infomercial. I liked Carolyn. Did he fire her or did she move on to greener pastures?

I’ve only seen the show a few times but I think his arrogant antics in the feud with the obnoxious and opinionated Rosie O’Donnell has helped The Donald “jump the shark”. This show started out as a chance for people to show their stuff to a very successful business man in the hopes of getting a job with him. Whatever you think of him personally, he knows how to make money and there were lots of up and comers wanting to learn from him. As of now, none of the winners have stayed on with him (to the best of my knowledge), he fired Carolyn who worked her way into that position and puts his 25 year old daughter in the spot. Great. So now anyone on the show knows that someone who was born into the spot is going to be judging them, some of whom have already made it on their own. It’s also a message that you might get stomped on by him and his family on the show and later, if you win, in his company. Might be better to go on The Amazing Race and try to win the million. Sure would be more fun.
