Castro Nears Death According To Intelligence Chief
Fidel Castro, Dictator of Cuba, is nearing death the United States Director of National Intelligence John D. Negroponte announced today. While this may not be a surprise to those who follow the news closely as he has been sick for a few months now, the word is still good news for those who love and respect freedom.
The people of Cuba have been living in fear of their lives for too long now. They fear that they will be imprisoned if they say anything against the government, or even put to death. The country lives at a poverty level that is obscene. And their tourism and trade businesses are hurt by the embargo.
However, when Castro passes on, the country could right itself quickly. Opening up trade and tourism on the island to the United States, getting rid of the trade barriers, and providing the people of the country freedom could create an economic tiger. And that would be good news.
“Everything we see indicates it will not be much longer . . . months, not years,” Negroponte told a meeting of Washington Post editors and reporters.
Castro relinquished power for the first time in 47 years after surgery July 31 for an undisclosed intestinal disorder. His brother, Raul, has assumed Castro’s duties, but Cuban authorities have repeatedly insisted that he is recovering and eventually will return to office. He was last seen in an Oct. 28 video, shown on Cuban national television, in which he appeared gaunt and weak and warned that his convalescence would be lengthy.
The Cuban leader did not show up as anticipated at a Dec. 2 national celebration in Havana scheduled to commemorate his 80th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the Cuban revolution. In a brief speech at the event, Raul Castro imparted no message from his brother but said that Cuba is willing to open negotiations with the United States “to settle the long U.S.-Cuba disagreement.” via the washingtonpost.com.

Sad news I’ve heard is Castro’s bro will succeed him, and he’s tougher than Castro.
Nothing will change if Fidel dies. His brother will become
as bad a dictator when he has sole power.
Whose worse John Negroponte, the Kings and Princes of Saudi Arabia, Henry Kissinger (has trouble travelling with various countries looking to indict), or Castro?
Sadly, one can make the case that Castro might be the most benevolent of that bunch!
Raul will see the writing on the wall. People are ready for change. Disney is already thinking about Disney-Havanna!
Serioulsy, Raul cannot pull this off. Castro was an institution. Raul is just a man. No real backers except Chavez. Once his thin economy plunges even more, and Chavez can’t keep writing checks, Raul will have to answer to the people. Cuba has been dying for years along with Castro. People will express change on this island when he is gone. Just my opinion. The west, including the USA should not make the mistake of making it Disney. Unless someone pumps money, whether is comes from Chavez or capitalistic dollars from the WEST, Cuba will also die a slow death. My guess is the Canada, which holds no ill will towards the island nation will step up. Can the USA be far behind?
Well,Raul is old also, maybe they can reunited in death ,soon.CUBA LIBRE
well, we have hawaii, i guess it’s only fair to let canada have cuba. their very own warm up in the winter space.

Canada has very good relations with Cuba.
Kat,
You are correct. That’s why you can buy Cuban cigars and confectionary products are usually less expensive in Canada. Canada enjoys free trade with Cuba, specifically importing lots of sugar and sugar by products from Cuba. In fact US companies wishing to compete have made partnerships or bought out Canadian companies, transferred business up to Canada, import the lower cost materials and walla!, they make a profit though the Canadian divisions.
