Americans siding with Governor Walker over unions in Wisconsin …
According to a recent Rasmussen poll, likely voters are siding with Governor Scott Walker over the Unions in Wisconsin by a 48% to 38% margin. Only 38% sided with the unions, which is a far cry from the image that the MSM is trying to show protesting in Madison, WI. Obviously Democrats are going to support the unions and did so in this survey with 68% of the vote, while Republicans, while 68% of Republicans sided with the governor. More importantly and telling, 58% of individuals not affiliated with either parity sided with Governor Walker. The winds of change are occuring in Wisconsin.
A sizable number of voters are following new Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s showdown with unionized public employees in his state, and nearly half side with the governor.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters agree more with the Republican governor in his dispute with union workers. Thirty-eight percent (38%) agree more with the unionized public employees, while 14% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
As stated by Hot Air, the unions appear to be losing the national battle for the hearts and minds of the American people. We the People seem to be growing weary of union entitlements while private citizens must make sacrifices every day.
The bigger questions is how will what is going on in Wisconsin and the people’s reaction to unions affect other cash strapped states like Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and others? There is an even greater questions posed by Red State, did Barack Obama just make a mistake in Wisconsin that he will never be able to recover from? Because once again, Obama is on the wrong side of the people and the private sector is sick and tired of the public sector and political class.
The Silvered, Fork-tongued One skates through electoral mayhem with the grace of Johnny Weir, but this time, he falls and fails badly. It will come back to haunt him.
I refer to President Obama siding with the public sector unions across the country while the Governors, both Republican and Democrat, try to balance state budgets and ask the unions to make less-aggressive concessions than private sector employees have been making for years.
All the talk of “tough choices” and shared sacrifice sounds incredibly empty and hollow.

This effort to repress the unions is a pure manifestation of plutocracy, funded by the Koch brothers and their allies, in an effort to drive the middle class into serfdom. The phony rhetoric about balancing the budget stands exposed when you see how Walker has already cut taxes for out-of-state corporations. He cuts taxes for corporations while he uses worker penions to balance the budget. If you’re not in the top 5% in this country and you support Walker’s policies, you’ve been *conned* into working against your own interests. Keep in mind that Walker is also a religious fanatic who wants to make *mentioning* abortion a crime! So much for all our rights.

“Sixty-seven percent (67%) of all voters say they are following at least somewhat closely news reports about the Wisconsin governor’s effort to limit collective bargaining rights for most state employees, with 37% who are following Very Closely.”
So we have 104% of likely voters having an opinion here. Tally me this, Batman!! And then the categories here are non-specific; what do they actually measure with such soft categories as “somewhat closely” and “very closely”. These are, by definition, individually defined categories; how do you aggregate such differing interpretations into something meaningful?
The question on agreeing with the governor has no qualifiers as to the specific issues at stake. The bill has several components that do not lend themselves into a single question. This question is meaningless as asked, and any responses are likewise meaningless.
As to the make-up of the respondents; since this is a dispute over WI policy, how does a survey of general Americans have significance? And since this is not about voting for anything, why is it limited to any group of just voters? This makes it less about public opinion; what might the polling agenda be for this?
I find it interesting that RedState mentioned “shared sacrifice”. There is absolutely no shared sacrifice in the WI budget repair bill. I expect there will be extreme measures in the pending WI budget that are not about “shared sacrifice” either. Time will tell.
And now take a look at what is taking place in Indiana. The contagion is spreading. Which should increase the uncertainty that our government can get the economy going. Throw into that the unrest in the Middle East and the weird year is only beginning.

…throw into the mix that oil just today(2/22) alone went up $8.00 a barrel and that Russia will supply China with oil and China WILL NOT use the once sacrosanct American dollar to pay for it and you have a quite volatile mix of economic woes coming our way. Jobs will get even more scarce and food prices will also escalate.
I would hope that the workers, whom I do respect, would get their collective thumbs out of where they sit and realize that the Governor is actually attempting to save the economy, hence their jobs, by keeping within a budget.
It’s only gonna get rougher from here on, folks. Let’s get a leader in the Whiye House that thinks the same way and we can get out of this resourcefully.
I personally like Donald Trump’s analysis of how to deal with China and India in terms of imports and exports, but that is a subject for another time.
And by limiting any bargaining to wages (not benefits) and limited wage raises to inflation (not a raise at all) the teachers thereby have nothing to bargain with and nothing to bargain for. ENDING collective bargaining.

It is a fact that the unions have all accepted Gov Walkers demands on financial aspects of the bill. Now if the Gov, as head politician of the state, would do as you say and get off . . . well, you said it best, and accept a political compromise, we can all move on.
I sure hope he is not stupid enough to try and pull a stunt and blindly stick with his demands. He said an hour ago that, if the bill is not signed by Friday, he will be forced to announce layoffs due to not meeting his debt restructuring deadline. This, of course, is complete nonsense. He can accept the financial parts of the bill and drop the rest, and still get his deadline met.
If he is dead-set on such draconian measures as to layoff Wisconsinites, who he represents, all because he didn’t get 100% of his demands, his recall is almost a guaranteed done deal one year from now. Talk about tone deafness!

Try reading for once; I clearly said that the unions have already agreed to the financial sacrifices asked for by Walker. Now, if only Walker was asking for shared sacrifices, from those citizens who could step up and help WI in this time of crisis. After all, there is more than one option to “decrease the negative red ink.”
Are you saying the poll I linked to is not credible because of the site where it appeared was biased (left-wing)? By your reasoning, any poll linked from this site would also not be credible because this is a biased site (right-wing). I tend to look at the poller for credible, and not the site; but that’s just me.

To be clear, I was asking Scott what he was trying to say, and if he was saying what I thought he was, then he was also discrediting polls linked from this site. The only right-wing site reference I made was about this site, not the other sites you mention.
As to Rasmussen, this particular poll has been called into question due to the 1st three leading questions, as well as timing and national respondents. I, for one, can say that the 4th question asked (In the dispute between the governor and the union workers, do you agree more with the governor or the union for teachers and other state employees?) it is likely not possible to get a single reliable answer.
As far as timing, I don’t believe the story in WI was getting significant coverage by the time this poll was taken. The national media basically started arriving on that weekend. Depending on the reporting respondents saw, they may or may not have had accurate information on this topic. There are several aspects to the bill, and not all of them may have been reported (at all or well enough to understand). Add to this that they were supposed to self-rate their awareness, without having any real means of measuring this. It’s even possible their news source was biased.
So, I’m not trying to say all Rasmussen polls are biased or not representative, but there are a lot of questions for this poll. and I have little faith it is accurate.

Every time is see the word thug, I know the comment has little to say beyond “I’m angry.” The choice to demagogue combined with the lack of the ability to offer little more than derogatory characterizations, clearly shows a lack of reliance on info that is useful or meaningful to the reader.
More importantly, you failed to even comment on my response to your prior post. Now that I think about this, perhaps this is a clear manifestation of what I just said.
If you think this is about me or my “faith” in this poll, think again. The poll is perceived as biased and poorly constructed, putting its results in question. And that has nothing to do with me.

It’s clear by the elections in 2010 where the MAJORITY of the Wisconsin people stand.
It’s a clear simple choice: either WI goes broke by not fixing what the unions are “stealing” from the taxpayer or they suck it up and deal with these changes for a few years to try and fix the 3.6T deficit/debt problem that state faces.
Yes…taxpayers pay for public unions such as the teachers union. You think it’s fair for someone not affialiated with a union to have to pay with their tax dollars to fund these unions?

When I run into a union teacher tomorrow, I’ll ask if she can tutor you on writing skills. Don’t worry, I’ll remember to ask to make sure the teacher is qualified to cover 2nd & 3rd grade curricula, which is about you current skill level.
As a matter of fact, WI (like most if not all states) can’t run up a debt. We need to balance the budget. Also, the state doesn’t face a $3.6T deficit either. Actually not even a $3.6B deficit, as the budget submitted by Gov Walker next week will again have to be balanced, without any deficit included. The estimated budget deficit we would face without any budget changes included was in the $3.6B range, but that was a figure used for planning purposes.
I have to ask you to stop complimenting my intelligence and book smarts, and telling everyone I know everything, or else I may have to start blushing.
