The Obama Economy Welcome to Obamaville: The Number of People on Poverty to Post Record Gain Under Obama’s Watch

Welcome to Hooverville, Obamaville …

America, how is that “Hopey,Changey” thing working out for you? According to estimates tracking poverty trends in 2009, they likely to show a significant rate increase to the range of 14.7  percent to 15 percent. If that is the case, some 45 million people would have been considered poor in the United States. This is unacceptable.

Welcome to Obamaville

Should those estimates hold true, some 45 million people in this country, or more than 1 in 7, were poor last year. It would be the highest single-year increase since the government began calculating poverty figures in 1959. The previous high was in 1980 when the rate jumped 1.3 percentage points to 13 percent during the energy crisis.

Barack Obama and Democrats do not have a clue as to what they are doing or how to create an environment to fix the economy and create jobs. Unemployment rates are at 9.6% and rising, which does not even begin to count discouraged workers who have all but given up on seeking employment. Also under Obama there is a record number of people on food stamps. The $787 billion stimulus was a complete epic failure, now Obama looks to spend another $50 billion stimulus and increase the already existing record federal deficits.

The number of people in the U.S. who are in poverty is on track for a record increase on President Barack Obama’s watch, with the ranks of working-age poor approaching 1960s levels that led to the national war on poverty.

Census figures for 2009 — the recession-ravaged first year of the Democrat’s presidency — are to be released in the coming week, and demographers expect grim findings.

It’s unfortunate timing for Obama and his party just seven weeks before important elections when control of Congress is at stake. The anticipated poverty rate increase — from 13.2 percent to about 15 percent — would be another blow to Democrats struggling to persuade voters to keep them in power.

“The most important anti-poverty effort is growing the economy and making sure there are enough jobs out there,” Obama said Friday at a White House news conference. He stressed his commitment to helping the poor achieve middle-class status and said, “If we can grow the economy faster and create more jobs, then everybody is swept up into that virtuous cycle.”

Obama and the Democrats handling of the economy has been completely unacceptable. Obama has hit a new low in that only 41% now approve of his handling of the economy. It has been handled so poorly and incompetently that one would think that they want a record number of Americans poor and dependent upon “BIG GOVERNMENT” for a hand out. Nah, that could never b his socialist agenda, could it?

Powerline has the perfect comparison to Democrats dealing with poverty like arsonists and fire.

The Democrats, of course, are like the arsonist who works for the fire department. They will argue that soaring poverty demands more government spending. But if even the AP is onto them, they will have trouble selling that line.

      Greetings:

I don’t think that I can agree with your premise. While an increase in the rate of poverty is certainly unwelcome, a 0.3% increase, even being a record is not all that much with a 14.7% starting base. By my head math, it’s about 2% which may or may not be a statistically significant change. There are any number of mathematical tests that can be used to establish statistical significance, but they never seem to get mentioned in reports of this type.

Obama will not be happy until he makes every one in America on food stamps, unemployment and depdendent upon the govt.

Down in Florida we have a heart warming story in the local paper of a single unemployed mother of two who received $186,000 from the gov’t to buy a forclosed $400,000 home for $168,000 and will use the excess money to fix the place up. She doesn’t have to pay back a dime.

Wow, that just makes me proud to be a financially strapped american, struggling to make a $1200 mortgage payment, who has worked hard all his life to the point of disablment to see that kind of a success story unfold, wow.

Is that heart warming, or is my aorta about to explode? I can’t tell anymore.
