North Dakota Republican Gov. John Hoeven Expected to Announce Run for ND Senate Seat for 2010

Gov. John Hoeven is in the North Dakota Senate race …

Republican Governor John Hoeven is expected to begin his candidacy for the North Dakota Senate race of 2010 on Monday. If any one wants to know why less than a week ago that long time Democrat ND Senator Byron Dorgan called it quits and retired, they need to look no further than the fact that anyone who was politically connected in ND knew that Hoeven was going to run.

North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven is expected to kick-off his candidacy for U.S. Senate Monday evening at a GOP district convention in Bismarck, according to a state Republican familiar with his plans.

Hoeven’s announcement will come just six days after Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan said he would retire rather than seek a fourth term in 2010.

Hoeven, the nation’s longest-serving governor, is expected to begin speaking to the Bismarck Republican District Convention around 6:00 p.m. Monday in order to snag live coverage from the local evening newscasts.

A recent Rasmussen poll had Gov. John Hoeven far out in front, 58%-36%, of incumbent Dorgan in a hypothetical match up. The hand writing was on the wall and rather than facing a most certain defeat by Hoeven, Dorgan fleed the sinking Democrat ship.

The North Dakota  Senate race is a microcosm of what is occurring across the United States in 2010. Long time Democrats who have been elected rather easily in RED states suddenly face the specter that they have little to no chance of winning. Republicans and middle of the road/leaning right Independents (WE THE PEOPLE) now realize that a vote for what appears to be a moderate Democrat is really nothing more than a vote for Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the socialist policies of Barack Obama.

John Hoeven is the nation’s longest serving governor and one of the many great candidates that Republicans have recruited for 2010. Hmm, a long time governor with Senate experience … look to the future for Hoeven to be a star in the future for Republicans and a potential VP or President candidate.

You can count this one as a Senate pick up for Republicans.

In other ND Republican news, the POLITICO is reporting that  that Republican Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer is planning a Thursday news conference to announce his own 2010 campaign intentions to run against nine term Democratic Congressman Earl Pomeroy. With voters coming out in mass to vote for John Hoeven and the depressed situation of the Dems, this might just be what is needed to oust yet another long time Democrat House incumbent.
